Marshall jumped out of his complimentary coach ride with a smile on his face. This was going to be an interesting few hours, that was for sure. A "Bug Catching Contest" wasn't something that he was overly enthused by necessarily, but the chance to get a few extra battles in really couldn't be passed up. Especially when that chance overlapped with an opportunity to nab something rare for trading later. He'd become quite accustomed to the idea of trading around and trying to earn cash now, having just offloaded a couple of 'mon to some Sinnoh couple a few days ago. Besides, he'd have to come here eventually, so it made sense to have a look when the opportunity arose.
Goldenrod was quite something indeed. Bustling and busy, the city was far different from everything Marshall had seen thus far. Even Violet never saw this level of activity at its most populated. Marshall was a little taken aback by all of this, in truth, and didn't quite know where to start. He knew where he needed to end up, but finding the National Park was a task in and of itself. Almost bumping into several people along the way, the young trainer fumbled his way through Goldenrod's busy streets as he tried to locate the Contest venue. Clutching his one allowed Pokéball at all times, Marshall swore to himself that he'd find a better way to travel through this city later in his journey. Perhaps he'd find a coach that just took him straight to the destination. That might be better.
After a while of exploration, Marshall finally ended up at the National Park. Even this was grand and almost overwhelming in its appearance. A huge banner on the front confirmed that, yes, this would be where the Contest would take place. Marshall wandered up to the clerk, gave her his name and other Pokéballs, and picked up the Sport Balls that he'd be required to use for the duration of this little detour. A couple more paces took him through the gatehouse and into the park itself. The game was finally on.
One more piece of business needed to be taken care of, mind. Marshall tossed a ball out in front of him, releasing his beloved Stufful. Brünnhilde had proven herself a worthy partner so far, and she was the only Pokémon that he was ever going to take with him here. The Stufful mewled softly as she landed down on the soft earth of the park. Taking one sniff of the sweet grass in front of her, she seemed at peace in this new environment almost immediately.
"Alright then, Brünnhilde! Let's get searching for some of those Bug types! Time's a-wasting, we're behind already!" he called out, shooing his Fluffy companion forward into the grass. A little confused, the Stufful chose not to question these words. It wouldn't work out for the best even if she did, and she knew that by now. She wandered off to search for something to fight against, though taking a moment every so often to smell the wonderful scents around her. This was nice. Very nice.

(My apologies, me, but I can't be bothered to write today. Sincerely, Me.)
Marshall jumped and turned about to face the strange Bug type that had just approached him. It wasn't a particularly familiar species at all... but Marshall didn't care to find out much about it for the time being. He was behind. He knew that. He didn't like losing. At all. This... thing... had to be caught. Probably. It looked like it might be rare. After all, Marshall didn't know it. That counts for something, right?
"Alright, Brünnhilde! Get 'em with a Tackle attack!" he commanded, and the little Stufful bounded forward obediently, as she always did, ready to crash into the alien Bug type with all of her might.

Sport Balls Left: 15 1/5 Encounters The elegant bee pokémon buzzed to life, zipping over the top of the tall grasses to make a quick attack on the exotic bear pokémon. Luckily Brünnhilde's abundant fluff provided a decent padding that absorbed most of the attack, making it like a car trying to slam into a tank. Brünnhilde grinned then smashed forward before Illumise could retreat, throwing the bug pokémon back a little ways.

The Bug type was proving just as problematic as it usually did for Marshall and his beloved Fighting 'mon. Illumise was most certainly beefy, if nothing else. Marshall had to wonder if it was even worth trying to go after this one, really. Perhaps there would be an easier catch down the line. But he wasn't easily discouraged. Brünnhilde seemed to be winning this fight anyway. She just needed to keep pushing on. That'd solved all their problems thus far, and there wasn't any reason to stray from that line of thinking now. Marshall put on his biggest, most confident smile and continued to command his partner in crime.
"Alright then, Brünnhilde, keep it up! We'll catch this thing before long!" he called out. The Stufful growled back cutely, her energy picking back up again as she started to stride forward again. "Another Tackle, let's go!"
(Two Tackles please, Running Shoes go. WE NEED SOME SPEED UP IN HERE.)

Sport Balls Left: 15 1/5 Encounters (Brünnhilde [Fluffy]: -2 ATK) Illumise heard the call, gasping lightly and giving Brünnhilde a look. She played the victim, beating those big bright eyes and pouting slightly as her posture shifted to a plead. How could such a cuddly bear beat down such dainty creature? Still, she had orders to enact, though perhaps she'd pull some punches. The pink pokémon rushed forward and gave Illumise another smack. The bug squealed to play up her ruse but quickly recovered and returned with another swift strike of her own. Brünnhilde then took the opportunity to make another playful tackle. *Running Shoes exhausted

The match had seemed to be going swimmingly for a while until Illumise pulled out a move that Marshall didn't recognise at all. The little Bug Charmed its way into Brünnhilde's heart, it seemed, with the Stufful suddenly looking like she was doing a lot less in the battle. Marshall sighed heavily. He knew that he'd have to pick things up if he was going to have any chance in this contest, and this battle was going to take a long time now. It had to be now. He had to catch it ASAP.
"Alright, step back buddy! I'm catching this one now!" he called out to his partner, pulling out a Sport Ball and throwing it out toward the Illumise.

The ball was thrown. A whipping speck of white that dabbed into the colorful bug pokémon. There was but a flash of surprise on her face before her form disappeared into the sport ball. It shook. A nest of grass encircled the ball as it landed. Another shake came, then a third. It looked like there was another jostle that would signal the breaking of the ball but it turned out to only be a few tall blades of grass freeing themselves from the edge of its weight. IllumiseName: [choose] Gender: [choose] Level: 17 Moves: Charm, Quick Attack, Sweet Scent, Struggle Bug Ability: Oblivious OR Tinted Lens Nature/Personality: [choose] If you choose to keep this at the end of the Contest, it will be added to Marshall's PC.
Brünnhilde grew to LV 18 and gained +1 Happiness (+4)!

Marshall watched, beads of sweat rolling down his brow as the ball rocked and wiggled on the ground below. He slowly advanced toward it, looking expectant as the orb started to settle down. He'd been reasonable with his timing so far, if he did say so himself, and this was looking to turn the same way. After a few more motions, the Sport Ball clicked shut for good. One capture down and... what was it, 4 more that they allowed? Yeah, that sounded right.
"Alright, nice job Brünnhilde! That's the first one, and it looks like a good 'un!" he said half-seriously. It wasn't easy for him to give praise to something else, but this Bug was exotic enough that Marshall really didn't know what it was. His Pokédex beeped, registering the last of the "seen" data on Illumise, but Marshall still didn't care to look. He simply pointed out in a random direction, looking down at his Stufful with a grin on his pudgy face. "Now then... let's go get ourselves a better one, why don't we? Onward, partner!" Stufful mewed with moderate enthusiasm, marching on into another patch of grass ahead of her as she sought out a new opponent.

The next opponent was another foreign species to Marshall. A Kricketune stood up to oppose him, its marvellous moustache blowing in the wind as the young trainer eyed it up. It certainly looked... odd. Marshall sighed, looking down at Brünnhilde. He knew he didn't have a lot of time, and he wasn't particularly enthused by this... thing. He also knew some of the rarer Pokémon that were hiding around here, and those would surely be worth a lot more points. He made up his mind quickly. This fight wasn't for him.
"Alright, let's get going! There's gotta be something a little more interesting," Marshall called out, telling himself that leaving this fight was for the best and promising himself that he'd fight whatever cropped up next.

Sport Balls Left: 15 2/5 Encounters The Kricketune followed Marshall refusing to allow him to leave unless it battled with him. As he had not made an attack the bug chose to show mercy this round butnit would not hold back again another round. If Marshall did not want to fight back it was fine but it was going to battle him if he wanted to or not. OOC: Unless the BCC has an unlisted rule you are not able to run from this battle sadly as your Pokemon participating nor in your party are 10 levels higher.
