Astrid looked around as she tried to pintpoint the entrance to some kind of garden there should be in this area. When she had returned to the Pokemon Center after her last battle, and got Egil healed, she had aired her worries, and had been suggested to find this specific place and try a bit of training there. She had been explained what the Estate was, but she hadn't quite understood, as she didn't thought it sounded at all like an estate as Astrid know them. She knew it should be around Dark Cave but she couldn't find anything, this was like looking after a nail in a haystack.
With a sigh she let out Egil her croagunk. He avoided to look at her and tried very hard to look bored and unimpressed, though he kept her in view all the time. "Now we are here Egil, it was a bit unlucky what happened in the last battle," said Astrid a bit apologizing and Egil suddenly found it very interesting to look closely at a tree nearby. He knew from experience that a failure like the one he had just had, would have consequences. The only question was what punishment Astrid would see fitting for one like fainting. The only difference from being with a human was that they gave the punishment instead of the leader of the group, and if your failed you might still get healed afterwards. He counted on Astrid to be too old to really do him any harm, but perhaps she would use another pokemon to help her.
"We need to work a bit on our tactics and there is a well hidden entrace near by to a place I think we should visit, can you find it?" Asked Astrid cheerfully and Egil glanced at her. He croaked and looked around he quickly noticed the path in between the trees. "Oh, you found it already? Perhaps I need to get glasses too," said Astrid and sighed as she followed the croagunk in between the trees. Egil pretended that he didn't care but he was rather tense, what was this place? Where did it go?
He paused and looked suspicious around what looked to be a small paradise as the trees opened up and revealed what was hidden within. "How wonderful, this should be a good place to train. I need to learn how you battle so I can help you, and if you get a bit stronger as well that will be good too. It looks like you prefer a wait-and-hit type of battle style, instead of avoiding a lot of attacks, and then you need to be bulky enough to resist," explained Astrid. Egil croaked once but didn't look excited at all. He was pleased though, if her punishment was training and making him stronger, he saw no problem in that. Even though there were a risk of this place having some real annoying opponents, so he might regret entering in the first place. "So, where do we start?" Asked Astrid as she looked around expectantly.
(ooc: Due to having an active travel thread, I only plan on using Egil the croagunk in this thread. If I make any changes to that plan, I'll let you know)

It was a beautiful day all around the meadowed grassy area just past Route 31. The temperature felt wonderful, not too hot with a nice cold breeze to give it a perfect feel, as if it was autumn. The sky was not too bright, as the sky was mostly filled with white and light gray clouds covering the Sun's brightness, not allowing it any room for the sunshine to reach directly to the Enlightened Forest. It was a perfect autumn day, but it felt odd, as it was most definitely still summer time. The weather was so much better however than the dust storm that had recently passed through, however. All around Astrid and her Croagunk in the Grassy Meadows, vibrant flowers and colors could be seen all around. A few Bidoof could be seen playing in the distance, perhaps a game of tag? In a tree close to Astrid by the entrance to the Meadows there was a spider web, with its creator sneaking around on it. Its source was no other than from a green spider-pokemon, a Spinarak. But it wouldn't be any of these Pokemon to approach Astrid and her Croagunk first however, as the other wild Pokemon seemed to be blissfully enjoying their day in the Meadows. It was a Shinx. The feline Pokemon curiously walked up to the trainer and her Pokemon. The Electric-type Pokemon looked at the Croagunk and then up at Astrid. The Shinx tilted its head and looked at the trainer for a few moments before smiling and leaping into the air. "Shinx!" The Shinx let out a happy noise. It ran up to the Croagunk on its four paws and touched it with one of the paws, and then quickly began to run away before turning around towards the Pokemon, cleary wanting to play a game. "Shi- Shinx!" It was as if the wild Pokemon was trying to tell Egil that it was 'it'. The happy and carefree Shinx wanted to play tag with the Croagunk. A wild Shinx (level 12) wants to play a game of tag! Will Astrid and Egil play along with the Shinx?

Astrid took a deep breath and looked around with wonder. "What a nice place," she said quietly and enjoyed the view of the pokemon living their lives and generally being peaceful. She hoped they wouldn't disturb this place too much by coming here and planning on training a bit. She had been adviced to seek out this place, so perhaps it was because it was less dangerous? Egil had no respect for pokemon living like this, they were a pampered weak bunch, who would get their behind slapped the moment they peeked out into the real world. Astrid had talked about training and he wanted to get stronger so he didn't have to worry about being able to handle himself, so he looked around to find an opponent. No matter if his chosen opponent liked the idea or not. He did not like to face more than one at a time, so the ones further away was out of the picture, but the bug in the tree might be a possibility. If he just could figure out how to get it down and avoid it hiding in the trees. He didn't find a solution before a shix approached and he sent it an disdainfully glare. Naive pup! He didn't budge when it touched him but answered with a slow croak, filling his cheek pouches full, trying to make the young electric type wary of him. "What are you waiting for? Wont you join the game?" Astrid kindly asked the croagunk. Egil slowly glanced at her, not showing his feelings. Did she really want him to play?He glared at the shinx but then slowly smiled maliciously. Alright, if it wanted to play a game, he would play and teach it a lesson while he was at it. It would regret what it had started, he would make sure of that. He gently dug his paws into the soil and scraped the topsoil off, so he could get down to the dirt below it. He smiled almost sweetly to the shinx as he took a handful of the wet soil up, and then he hurled it at the electric pokemon without warning. He croaked pleased. "Got'cha! You're 'it'," he told it mockingly. (ooc: do I have to write that Egil uses Mud-slap? )

The previously gleeful little Shinx took the slap of mud directly to its face. It knocked the Electric-type Pokemon over into the grass, and the mud made it a bit harder for the Shinx to see. The Shinx looked directly at the Croagunk with a sad look. It was clear that Croagunk had a much dirtier and agressive game of tag to play with the Shinx. Very well. If that was what the Croagunk wanted to do, the Shinx would play along. It was still a game, after all. But the happy expression on the Shinx's face seemed to leave for a moment as a look of anger and determination to defeat the Croagunk took its place. If it hadn't wanted to play tag, couldn't it have just said so? It was a different kind of game of tag they were playing now. The Shinx gathered speed as it ran up to the Croagunk, tackling it over onto the ground as they both rolled into the grass. "Pinned yah!" The Shinx pranced away with a smile on its four little paws. It then turned to look towards Astrid and her Croagunk. "You're it! This is a fun game of tag."Wild Battle - Grassy Meadows Weather Status: ClearWild Shinx | Level 12 Health: 77% (28/36 HP)Status: -1 Accuracy Used Tackle! "Egil! Behave yourself!" Exclaimed Astrid half-serious as the shinx was quick to retaliate and didn't really acted like it was such big of a problem. She had just expected them to be playing more.. kindly with each other, it was what she had thought the shinx wanted, but perhaps she was wrong. She didn't speak pokemon after all.
Egil didn't care of what the shinx thought of his actions. He may worry a tiny bit about Astrid's but that was only because she was his trainer and could punish him if she wanted. Just like the leaders he had had earlier in his life. In his opinion this was the shinx's own fault as it could just had stayed away instead of approaching.
He had underestimated the small electric type and was thrown to the ground with it, when it decided to tackle him. He looked at it coldly as it declared he "was it" and that it was a fun game. He calmly got back on his feet and did his best to hide his shame. It was unforgivable that he let such inexperienced and childish pokemon get the better of him like that. It wasn't even intimidated by him! Perhaps that was Astrid's way of punishing him? By humiliating him? He croaked slowly and didn't show any haste as he narrowed his eyes at his opponent. "You like that, huh? I'll give you another batch then," he said disdainfully and threw another handful of mud at the shinx. It would probably soon figure out mud in the eye wasn't that pleasant, if not he would show it what else he could do.

Why couldn't the Croagunk just want to play with me? I just wanted to play, that was all... The Shinx thought to itself before taking a face-full of mud from Egil to its face. The hit made the Shinx's face even more covered in mud. It began to feel a bit of anger and resentment towards the Croagunk for not having just kindly played with the electric-type Pokemon. It had been a while since the young Shinx had found someone to play with, and finally someone had come along that it thought would play along with it. Apparently not. That made the Shinx upset. If Egil wanted to play the game dirty like that, so would the Shinx. The Shinx's newly-found resentment for the poison-typed Pokemon would take control of its actions, which would likely be what would throw the battle in Egil's favor. It shook its head a little bit and scratched at its face for a moment, trying to clear its hindered vision slightly of the mud it had taken to the face twice. With a final shake of its head, the Shinx looked at the Croagunk. its smile was no longer present. The void left behind by the smile was filled with an obviously angry-look, probably exactly what the Croagunk had wanted from the youngster Shinx. "Fine," The Shinx said to the Croagunk, "You win. We'll play the game your way. Time to play a very dirty game of tag." The Shinx bent back, before rushing forwards towards the opponent's location. As it rushed forward, preparing to tackle the Croagunk, the Shinx would find itself tackling right onto the ground, taking another face-full of mud at the rough landing onto the cold, hard ground. Specs of dirt from the ground flew up as the Shinx hit the ground hard. The anger that swallowed the Shinx seemed to blind it more than the mud ever could have, both strategic tactics deployed by the Croagunk. The Shinx slowly got back up, struggling to plant its paws back onto the ground. The angry look the Shinx held was replaced by a sad look. the young Pokemon looked towards Egil. "I was really just hoping for a play mate, I'm sorry..." The Shinx spoke to the Croagunk, unsure of its emotions at the moment. Egil smiled smugly when the second batch of mud hit the shinx square in the face. It pleased him even more that he could see the shinx got affected by it by getting angry. No-one could be unaffected forever and it was the first lesson for the stupid youngsters. As the shinx spoke he looked coldly at it and only answered with a croak that turned into a laugh as the shinx missed greatly and in Egil's eyes humilated itself by slamming face first into the ground. Egil huffed when the shinx apologized. "What are you sorry for? Failing miserably?" He asked indifferent and would let the word sink in before he continued. "Playmates are for kits, see this as your first lesson in life. Now you can either learn from it or continue to live in your little baby bubble and burn your paws much worse later on," Egil told the young shinx bluntly. He found himself being awefully soft and helpful towards this little clueless electric kittycat, but it annoyed him endlessly with its happy go lucky nature and blabbering about playing, so if he could stop it and make it serious it was worth it. "Let's see if you are smart enough for that, shall we?" Egil asked with a malicious smirk and leaped forward in an attempt to shock the shinx. Astrid looked worried, the shinx had seem so happy and playfull at first but Egil surely had taken that out of the battle. It was rather unlucky and she wished she could do something but it was hard when she wasn't sure what happened between them. She wondered if she somehow could make up for it by catching it, or if it would be better for the shinx to stay in this garden where it knew the others and probably had friends and family. (ooc: Egil uses Astonish. And you have nothing to apologize for, I'm just glad you got time to get back and continue ^^ I on the other hand will apologize for my less quality of work. I'm tired but this is also the first post made in the new year, according to my time. 1 am. I really like that you give the shinx so much personality, I wasn't planning on catching anything but now I have got idea for this shinx and what relationship it can have with Egil )

The first comment the Croagunk gave back made the Shinx more angry. The Shinx stared at the poison-type. Who was this Pokemon to tell the electric-type it had failed, anyways? The Croagunk's attitude and its emotions seemed dryer than its skin to the Shinx at this point. The anger the Shinx felt towards him dissipated momentarily as it continued to stare and listened to the Pokemon - For a moment, it seemed as if it was going to actually believe in and follow what the Croagunk's words. The Croagunk's Astonish attack dealt even more damage to the Shinx, and as it had been staring at the Croagunk deep in thought, it could not have expected such a hit. The Shinx was forced to back-step a few feet after taking the hit, feeling the effects of the hits it had taken so far taking part of its energy. It shook its head a bit and then looked back towards the Croagunk. The Shinx - still angered by the visitor Croagunk's words, but confused behind what the Croagunk had said - gave an angry expression towards the frog-like toxic mouth Pokemon. Or at least, the Shinx tried to; It wasn't sure what emotions it felt at the moment, and that made it hard to display a vivid or menacing look. Either way, any kind of look to intimidate the opponent had obviously failed. How could a Pokemon such as this Shinx, so unsure of its emotions in the battle, be sure enough to even put up a fight in a battle against any Pokemon to begin with? The young and playful Shinx felt a drain of its energy, thoughts of the Croagunk's philosophies filling its mind. No. No, no, no. The Shinx couldn't allow itself to give up. It couldn't, it shouldn't, and my no means would it. "No!" The young Shinx let out towards the Croagunk. "You are wrong! This world is not such a grim place as you make it out to be, and I won't let you make it that way!" It stomped its small front paw onto the grass and gave a determined look. But little could the Shinx now that it was too late for it to make up its mind to stand its ground. The strategic teacher of a Croagunk would not lose at this point. Wild Battle - Grassy Meadows Weather Status: ClearWild Shinx | Level 12 Health: 38% (14/36 HP)Status: -2 Accuracy Used Leer! ... Attack missed again! Astrid's Egil | Level 12 | Dry Skin Health: 81% (30/37 HP)Status: Normal Used Astonish!

Egil didn't show it but he was smug that he managed to get under the skin of the shinx and getting it to think about the world. He even thought it may have a chance, since it actually listened to him unlike most other he met. But then it seemed to chance its mind and refused to accept the reality and stubbornly claimed that Egil was wrong. His expression darkened a bit but then he just shrugged. "Suit yourself, it is not my problem what troubles you get into," Egil said calmly and readied his poisonous fluid. "This is a battle, which you initiated so you will have to see it through whether you like it or not," Egil informed the young shinx as he got up and moved closer, given the it plenty of time to understand what he had said and be ready. When he got close enough he poked it with a finger, not at all a threatening move hadn't it been for the poison that covered it.
Astrid watched with a frown as the two pokemon interacted and the shinx got more and more upset. Whatever it was Egil was saying it wasn't nice but she couldn't really cold him when she didn't know what he was reacting on. Perhaps the shinx had been saying something that couldn't be accepted as well? She wondered what other trainers did in such situation although she got a feeling most humans were oblivious to it and just did what they wanted themselves.
When Egil decided to stab the shinx, and Astrid knew he was poisonous so that was a bad sign. She made a quick decision and surprisingly fast found an useful pokeball in her trolley (which probably came from the fact that she had so many). She wanted to capture the poor little cat and make sure it was alright after Egil's treatment of it, and then she could always released it afterwards. The hard part was to actually hit the shinx with the pokeball but she managed to loop it softly at it even with her little strength.
Egil was clearly surprised when he saw the pokeball that came flying through the air, he hadn't expected the old lady wanting to catch pokemon here. He sat down to see what happened and didn't care much about if he got the shinx as a "partner" or not, even though it surely would be annoying.
(ooc: Egil uses Poison Sting, and then Astrid loopes a pokeball at it)

The Croagunk did something completely un-expected from the Shinx. Even if it was something the Electric-type would've normally expected out of the Croagunk, the Shinx seemed to be too unaware to even be ready for any move. Unawareness caused by how lost the young Shinx's mind was at the moment, lost in a cloud of confusion and an unsteady anger. The simple poke of a finger? What was that going to do the Shinx? It took a few seconds, but then the frustrated static fur-ball felt it; The dreadful feeling of the poison made the Pokemon wince in pain. The Croagunk had coated the tip of its finger in its poison fluid while holding the Shinx at bay with the words. There was no doubt, the Croagunk was most definitely a strategic Pokemon. But even with the poison seeping at the wild Pokemon's body, it stood its ground and did not lose eye contact with the Poison-donor. Suddenly, the Shinx felt itself calm down. Its personality had been all over the place, but now the Shinx felt firmly enough in its belief. It believed in itself, and it wasn't going to let the Croagunk bring that strength down, even if it meant losing a battle. The Shinx would learn a lesson today regardless if it was one the Croagunk wanted it to learn or not. "I fully intend on seeing it through!" The Shinx courageously said towards the Croagunk. The Pokemon charged bravely, but not fearlessly, towards the opposing Poison-type. The charge would get stopped mid-way however as a thump of a small, red-and-white, ball-shaped object hit the young cat Pokemon's forehead. It let out a noise as it pulled the Pokemon in. The Shinx had completely forgotten about the lady who was presumably the Croagunk's trainer, and this was the price of that. But maybe it wasn't a bad thing. What if the Shinx liked having a trainer? It seemed like such a fun idea to the Shinx, but living with the Poison-type sounded not so great. One small wiggle from the captured and weak Shinx was all before the audible ting! from the Pokeball sounded. Meaning, the electric cat was temporarily saved from the 'wrath' of Egil. It had definitely been an unlucky occurrence for the playful furball to have ran into the Croagunk, but perhaps the situation had unraveled to something quite lucky. The Shinx would get the chance to see what life with a trainer is like. And, perhaps, see a totally healthy rivalry unfold. Wiggle.
Ting!Astrid successfully caught the wild Shinx! Egil grows three levels to level 15! Egil gain +1 happiness! Egil smirked mockingly when the shinx declared it did intend to fight to the end. If it hadn't it would never learn to survive outside this little nursery of its which this garden clearly was. He watched calmly as it charged and let out a croaking laughter when the pokeball hit it midway and disrupted its pathetic attempt to retaliate. It was good to see that life was still unfair and that the shinx was going to discover that sooner than he had thought.
The croagunk didn't move but just watched as Astrid walked over to pick up the pokeball after it had confirmed the capture. He looked around and saw no other electric cats about, that was another thing typical for life, that the poor little youngster got snatched away from its loving home without getting to say goodbye, and without its family ever getting to know what had happened to it. Well, now it had left the nest it would learn to fly, or plummel to its death. It was really up to itself now.
"I am pretty sure you could have handled that better Egil," Astrid sternly told her croagunk, who just watched her bored. "We better get this little one looked at by Nurse Joy, I do think it got affected by your poison," Astrid continued worried and Egil smirked pleased. Oh yes it had, and it had been wonderful to see that little brat taste a bit of trouble.
Astrid lead the way out of the garden once more, it hadn't been much she had gotten to explore but getting the shinx to Joy was much more important. Egil followed her and was more worried about how he best could avoid the little happy-go-lucky dimwit until it had learned a thing or two, and would be more bearable to talk with.
(ooc: Egil forgets Astonish to learn Pursuit, I'll ask for the updating myself ^^) Thank you so much for a fun thread Fallen, I'm going to end it here and am excited to get to play these two together. I'd love to come on another visit (or do another thread with you, like escapades) when you have more time on your hands ^^
