CAN WE PRETEND THAT AIRPLANES IN THE
NIGHT SKY ARE LIKE SHOOTING STARS CAUSE I COULD REALLY USE A WISH RIGHT NOW
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Finnian was fresh out of the lab with a pair of Pokemon, neither of which did he know well. Okay, sure, he knew what they were, but that was about it. He had no idea what they were like or what they were capable of. Most people would be concerned about that, but in truth Finnian didn't mind at all. He was just delighted to be out in the world and to have a team to call his own, though he had to take a minute out of the lab to name both of his newfound partners. He wasn't the sort who could just wander around with a team that he didn't get to know in the slightest. His parents had raised him better than that, though to be fair his mother had taught him many lessons in how to not get too attached to certain Pokemon as they would have to be turned loose eventually. That wasn't going to be the case with these two though, and he wanted to start getting to know them immediately.
Once the naming was accomplished, he set off into the wilderness once more, not realizing that the sun was already starting to set and he probably should have spent the night in town. Too late now, he thought once he did realize it, choosing to press on anyway. There was so much to see and do that he couldn't resist getting out into the thick of things immediately. It was just his way.
"Come on guys! Let's go!" he called out, dashing forward into some nearby grass with Talia chasing after him. Florus was too busy tending to a nearby flower he'd seen slowly falling over to realize that his companions were dashing off without him, but thankfully it was such a simple fix that he was able to sprint after them and catch up easily enough. "Sorry buddy," Finnian apologized with a chagrined smile, having finally noticed that Florus wasn't with them and slowed down considerably so he could catch up. He realized that he and Talia would have to be careful about not outpacing anyone else with them, and made a mental note to try to rein himself in.
Yeah, good luck with that one.

Gardener-chu
Name: Florus Gender: Male Level: 5
Attacks: Tail Whip, Thunder Shock, Growl, Mud Shot
Ability: Static
Nature/Personality: Florus is the sort that prefers to commune with nature above all else. He wants to plant something everywhere he and Finnian go, and he can often be found tending to some nearby plants instead of paying attention to what his trainer is doing. He hates the idea of damaging nature, and if a battle seems to be heading that way he will try desperately to stop it or refuse to continue fighting.

It was a lovely evening. Sun painting the sky with just the slightest tinge of purple as it descended below the horizon; well blocked by the row of trees lining the various ways around route 29. All the day goers of the wilds were beginning to settle in for the night leaving the route itself ideally quiet for those wanting to travel. However, for budding trainers wanting to officially get their journey underway the serenity of the wilds was perhaps not the preferred. Luckily, the wilds were never truly all quiet. With the recent migration of a certain group of pokémon route 29 was accommodating more pokémon than it usually would. So even if the excited shouts of Finneon weren't enough to rouse a hoothoot just before its usual wake time, there was something else meandering about also just enjoying the evening air. Its long nose sniffing a patch of blooming flowers the visiting pokémon took everything in at a leisurely pace. The being heard Finneon's cries nearby and paused, considering. It looked at the colorful flora around it for a few seconds then ducked down and shuffled around for the most ideal position. Though, even hidden from sight the noise and wake of the parting tall grasses as it moved were enough of a beacon to draw some attention. Especially by a gardener taking in all the lush greenery. Florus chirped a pika to get the trainer's attention and pointed into the patch to indicate the disturbance, which promptly stopped. The stems and blades wriggled for a little while longer but the psychic type knew it had been discovered. Right? It was still pretty young but it could sense a vague mingled assurance from the trio. Just to be safe, the drowzee slowly and carefully only poked its head just above some of the flowers to get a look. A swarming Drowzee (LV 3) appeared! Select a pokémon for battle & declare a move!

Finnian had to admit that this place was pretty awesome from what he could see thus far. Quiet, peaceful, and yet welcoming and somewhat exciting. Or maybe it was just him bringing that last bit to the table. At least he was having fun, which was all that really mattered in his book. He wasn't here to be the best there ever was or anything like that, and neither was Florus come to think of it, though he wouldn't mind being the best gardener the region had ever seen. That was... probably unlikely to happen though. Not really any way to quantify that unfortunately, though Finnian would be his biggest cheerleader ever.
It was Florus that discovered the Drowzee that was lurking around, actually, and Finnian looked back curiously. "Oh, hi there!" he exclaimed, raising his hand to wave. Even as he did so, Talia charged past him and threw herself towards the wild Pokemon who had appeared. Her trainer might not know how this whole "encountering wild Pokemon" thing was supposed to go, but she sure did!
"Whee!" she exclaimed as she sailed through the air, delighted to be getting some exercise for once. It had been so boring being back at the lab, and now she could have some fun! Hopefully the Drowzee thought it was fun too, otherwise it wouldn't be as much so for her.
Meanwhile, Finnian just looked on in surprise, not having expected his Pokemon to jump into the fray without being told. Then again, it was a good thing. He'd have probably tried to talk to the Drowzee and that probably wasn't going to get him too many new companions. Not exactly how things worked, unfortunately.

The newborn team of Pokemon and trainer had stumbled upon the rare Drowzee, a seasonal Pokemon that had flocked over to enjoy the area for a time. The sun was starting to creep down further past the horizon, a sign that perhaps it was best to get this battle done early before more foes stumbled across Finnigan and his team. The Drowzee stood defensively, wary of its opponents. Unfortunately it didn’t have any psychic moves to defend it, it would have to rest upon the starter moves most newborn Pokemon got.
Its hand moved up and down, relying on them to control the battlefield with psychic energy. The Squirtle began to launch towards the awkward shaped psychic Pokemon, unfortunately the Drowzee did not have the foresight to move out of the way. A strong his by Squirtle knocked the psychic type over, but the Pokemon would retaliate with a pound attack! It was obvious that Squirtle had much better attack, Drowzee would have to pull out a trick in order to pull this off. The poor Drowzee, Finnian thought. He really hadn't expected one of his Pokemon to just attack, but while he initially thought about pulling Talia aside after the battle and telling her not to do it again, he realized that she was having way too much fun to want to stop her. It would just be mean to do that, right? It wasn't like she was antagonizing the Drowzee or being mean to it so... what was the harm? Not like she was going out looking for a fight because she wanted to hurt someone, she just seemed to think it was fun to fight. He supposed he ought to just let her do her thing if it made her happy like that.
In the meantime, Florus was freaking out because they were far too close to the tall grass and flowers for his liking. Poor Florus, he was going to have a tough time unless he could get over that little qualm of his, since neither Finnian nor Talia were at all concerned about potential damage to nature... unless it was the level of burning down a tree or something like that. Picking a few flowers wasn't a problem to them.
Case in point, when Talia wound up landing on a small shrub she just waddled off it and hurled herself at her opponent again. That little bump had hurt, but she figured she had this in the bag! If all he could do was hit her, then she hoped her shell would protect her enough that she didn't have to worry about it. Finnian, in the meantime, was digging around for a Pokeball, because he didn't want the first Pokemon they'd run into here to get away from them without at least trying to capture it. He'd wait to throw the ball though, one because he still couldn't find them, and two because the battle had just started.

Drowzee attempted to shake off the harsh tackle the Squirtle had used. The water type packed a powerful punch even though she was still a youngling. Drowzee was a youngling too though, which explains the lack of psychic moves at its disposal. Drowzee grimaced, this battle was not going well. It just couldn’t keep up with the turtle! It watched from afar, not at all pleased with the current situation it had stumbled into.
Drowzee watched carefully, hopefully it would be able to dodge the attack with enough foresight. Suddenly, the Squirtle rocketed toward the psychic type. Too fast for Drowzee’s perception, the water Pokemon hit its foe once more. In retaliation, Drowzee used pound attack again! If only it could use a special attack, there would be more of a challenge. Nothing much Drowzee could do now other than continue fighting, it had learned from past failures to accept the reality of a losing battle. Man, this kind of fight took forever! It wasn't as though either Pokemon was experienced enough to manage something other than the most basic of moves, so they were having a sort of wet noodle fight with each other. At least Talia was still having fun, even though she kept getting punched. It wasn't fun, but her shell helped with that. She hated to think what this would be like without it, and she felt somewhat bad for her opponent since he didn't have a beautiful shell to protect himself with. It must suck, especially as she kept hurling herself at her opponent.
Finnian, meanwhile, had finally found a Pokeball, and he was prepared to throw it in a moment when the dust settled from this next flurry of attacks. He didn't want to risk missing or hitting his own Pokemon on the head. They'd barely gotten to know each other, so he had a feeling she wouldn't appreciate that too much, and he really didn't want to get off on the wrong foot. That would make this journey a lot longer than it needed to be.

The battle ground was littered with dirt, unearthed from the two Pokemon tackling each other into the ground. Feuds have taken their toll many times across the route, most had been covered up by vegetation. The two had been dueling for quite some time now. Ready for more action, they stood menacingly.
Talia bumped into Drowzee strongly, knocking the Pokemon down once more. Now the psychic type was feeling the heat, scrapes covered its entire body. Its breathing became heavy, it couldn’t keep this up much longer! Its body wasn’t designed for such physical dueling as stated earlier, was there a purpose in going on? All wild Pokemon knew to never give up, but when it was taxing to take another step, one would contemplate throwing the towel in as well. The psychic type lunged towards the Squirtle once more, using its last ounce of energy to give another pound attack. Squirtle’s outer shell protected it from most of Drowzee’s week physical moves, so Talia had little to worry about. A fine first battle for the team’s initial battle into the Johto region. Finnian had finally found his stash of Pokeballs and was ready and waiting to throw one that he'd grabbed from it. When the dust cleared from the most recent set of blows, he saw Talia getting ready to launch herself at her opponent again, and he had a feeling that would be a bit overkill. He wanted to catch it not make it faint, because he didn't think that was a very nice thing to do.
"Talia, wait!" he ordered, causing the Squirtle to do a wild flailing motion as she halted her forward momentum and lost her balance, almost falling on her face. Whew, that was a close one for both of them! "Let's see if this works," he said by means of explanation, tossing the ball in his hand at the Drowzee and hoping that it actually struck. That would be embarrassing, if his first throw at a Pokemon in front of his new partners was a complete whiff. He probably should have been practicing his aim at home before he left, come to think of it. That was something that somehow hadn't occurred to him, and as he watched the ball fly through the air he realized it needed to have.
Welp. Too late now.
Finnian threw a Pokeball!

Drowzee was still wiggling its hand in that telekinetic way that it always did, except now it was almost completely drained of energy. It hyperventilated, its snout swaying with every deep breath it took in its fatigue. Hopefully this battle would end soon because it needed a nap. Just then, it realized it probably wouldn’t be leaving, it was looking a lot worse then its opponent. Feeling defeated, the Drowzee used every last bit of its energy to remain upright.
The battle would end soon though, perhaps not in the way the psychic type would have expected. The trainer rummaged around and found a ball. A sphere hurdled toward its face, too weak to move Drowzee watched as the mechanism flew toward it. The pokeball opened and consumed the creature. It wiggled once, but then immediately blinged confirming the capture. Although the psychic type wasn’t intending on being caught today, it would be a lot better than lying in the open field.

Finnian was relieved when the Drowzee vanished into the Pokeball and stayed there, having been somewhat certain that he wouldn't even be able to throw the ball and have it land like it was supposed to. Wow, his first battle and capture ever! And it had gone so well! He shouldn't have gotten his hopes up, but he felt as though this was going to be a great adventure for him since it had started out so well. Chances were good he'd hit quite a few rough patches along the way, but he wasn't expecting that in the slightest now. Probably going to be a nasty shock when that happened.
For now though, Finnian retrieved the Pokeball from where it had fallen and checked out Talia to make sure she was all right. Little worse for the wear, but still excited about her first battle it seemed. "You okay?" he asked.
"That was awesome!" she replied, bouncing around excitedly even while she winced whenever she jolted one of her bruises.
"Guess so," he said with a quiet chuckle. "Okay, let's see what else we can find around here." He was curious if there would be any other new friends they could meet, and he wanted his other companions to get some more experience just like Talia just had before they wound up in town.

The light of the sun was well dimmed at this point, leaving route 29 well covered by the long stretch of nightly shadows. Though, as the sky darkened into the deep blues and eventually into black that light would be replaced by silver twinkles and the reflection across the moon's surface. Being well away from any bright city it was trivial to navigate the wilds simply by way of heavenly lights that slowly emerged as the sun's own rays dissipated. Though, westward there was the soft flood of light pollution from Cherrygrove, but that just made it easier to keep track of where Finnian needed to head. Their beacon easily tracked, the newly made trainer and his growing team continued along the first Johto route. Careful steps brought a soft crunch underfoot as they kept their senses peaked for anything that may emerge from the shadows of the forest surrounding. The night life was quiet. Whether that meant something more skilled was stalking them from cover or there just wasn't much around was hard to say. Eventually though a rustle from an approaching bush made itself known. Attention focused, soon a brightly colored butt would wriggle its way from the shedding greenery. Twigs crackled as the little worm made its way out of the bush, slowly back up and tugging on something. It was just about out, head still obscured by the shrubbery, but seemed to be stuck. It tugged and tugged until finally there was a snap and the wurmple flew backward head over heel. A brief spray of small twig bits following after it marked its short trail onto official path of route 29; now nearly in Finnian's shadow if it hadn't been nighttime. The bug pokémon squeaked at the realization and righted itself, huffing and wriggling its front-most feet as if putting up its teensie hands in a challenge of fisticuffs. A wurmple (LV 6) was found! He'd wanted them to get more practice in, but with the sun setting he realized he also didn't want to wind up stuck outside either. Being out after dark was probably not a good idea, though he was used to it being just fine since he'd grown up in such a peaceful little place. Finnian kept having to remind himself that this place was totally different from his home, and as such he couldn't make assumptions like that. Hence why he was starting to get worried that he might be out after dark.
That didn't stop him from letting himself be stopped by another Pokemon appearing, though. He'd stopped briefly when he heard the cracking in the bush, and then he'd only been able to stare in surprise at the Wurmple making its way out. "Oh!" he exclaimed when the little Pokemon popped out abruptly. "Are you okay?"
"I think it wants to fight!" Talia exclaimed as the Wurmple chose to face them. Finnian wasn't too sure about that idea, feeling a bit bad for attacking such a tiny Pokemon, but he had to admit that it seemed like she was right.
"Well... okay... if that's what it wants..." he agreed somewhat reluctantly. "But Florus should go this time!" He wanted all of his Pokemon to get some experience after all, and Talia had already gotten a battle in. Aislyn would probably want to rest after just being captured, so she could be trained in town he decided. That just left Florus, who didn't look super happy to be chosen but moved forward regardless.
"Try not to damage any more of the greenery, all right?" he requested, flicking his tail in the Wurmple's general direction. He didn't really give the little bug a chance to respond though, as his cheeks started to spark warningly before a bolt of electricity shot from him towards his newfound opponent.

The spark of electricity zipping through the air gave the small bug little time to do much but blink a couple times. Too long had it pondered any kind of retort to the domesticated pikachu, and in that pondering it had failed to actually prepare for the fight it had instigated. Soon it's body was wracked with a numbing pain that left its muscles stiff afterward. In an effort to keep nimble Wurmple made to exercise its body in a forward crawl. Weaving up and down in the usual wormy bobs the wild pokémon managed to make it within melee range of Florus. The little thing looked a bit pathetic and not particularly dangerous, but with any kind of paralysis shaken off the larva pokémon was able to surprise the electric mouse with a sudden ball up and launch. The bug smashed into Florus' stomach, knocking the wind out of him for a moment, then rebounded off to land in the pikachu's shadow. It seemed quite proud of itself, taking a moment to chirp happily at its success. Battle Weather: Clear Wurmple | LV 6 | Shield Dust HP: 69% (16/23) Status: Normal Used Tackle! VS

Apparently, Talia was correct that the little worm wanted to battle. Finnian still wasn't sold on this, because the other Pokemon was so small, but if that was what it wanted then they'd do it. He couldn't help but cheer for both of them in this fight though, particularly when the Wurmple seemed so excited about its success in striking Florus, who was still working on picking himself up from the ground.
"Good job both of you!" Finnian said, ignoring the look that Talia gave him when he "cheered on the other team" as it were. "Now keep it up Florus!" The Pikachu nodded in agreement, but he wasn't going to keep attempting to electrocute his opponent. That would be too obvious. Instead, he knelt quickly and dug up a handful of soil with his spade, dropping it into his hand and turning it into mud with a couple drops of water from a bag on his belt. The motion was swift and practiced, so hopefully the Wurmple wasn't too prepared for it when he threw the clump of mud towards the Wurmple as hard as he could. It wouldn't hurt the environment like his bolts of electricity could, so he wasn't as concerned about this attack potentially missing as he was the previous one.
