Having won an all expenses paid trip to the Safari Zone Marchbaby decided to use it while he had the chance. According to the rules he could start in any section he wanted and the moment he heard there was a desert section Marchbaby headed to it first to try his luck. His trip included 24 Safari Balls and he was going to try and use as many as he could before his time ran out. He just hoped his trip would end up being a good one as he searched for his first Pokemon.

Adrenaline already pumping the vast expanse of sand and wind the only thing to be seen far and wide didn't phase the man. As with any other portion of the wilds in Johto the desert was probably teeming with wild life waiting to be stumbled upon. Just hopefully not too literally. With no pokémon battling allowed in the reserve March would have to do his best to keep on the good side of the pokémon inhabiting the park; for the most part. Rocks weren't exactly playful bouncy balls. It only took a bit of wandering before the skilled trainer would feel eyes on his back. Being a dragon tamer though it was likely less intimidating than the trainer's stalker would have liked. However, it was interesting. Tourists weren't common around here, and many of the other pokémon the hound usually encounters would be zipping away by now. Houndour spread its paws in the sand and waited to see what this man would do given its presence. Houndour were pretty rare in Goldenrod where Marchbaby had yet to leave but here in the safari zone they were a far more common sight, even so he could not pass up the chance of getting another good partner for Kamikaze as it would compliment her ice type pretty well and it might be a useful Pokemon for breeding purposes as well. He had no idea how well a Safari Ball would work against a Houndour at full health but he had to give it a try as he had a pretty decent stock to go along with his trip. He grabbed one of the Safari Ball's from his bag and got ready to toss it hoping that luck would be on his side.
" Go Safari Ball, capture that Houndour." He then waited unsure of how his first attempt would play out as he was not very optimistic about the odds of getting it on the first try.

The houndour sized up the man in front of it narrowing its eyes as he found a pokeball and sent it flying towards it. It didn't move but instead tilted its head intrigued, there really weren't many people visiting this part of the safari. It reared on its hindlegs as the pokeball come close and caught it skillfully in its mouth, it got time to sent a triumphantly look at Marchbaby before it got sucked into the pokeball. The ball rolled rather than wiggled, as the wind and sand blew it across the sand, making it very hard to guess how well the pokeball was working. Then the houndour reappeared in a flash of light with a yelp and bounded a bit away from the pokeball. It shot a glance and Marchbaby before it sneaked closer to carefully sniff at the green and white sphere. It looked after the broken ball as the wind blew it away over the sand, then it turned its attention back to Marchbaby and began circling around him. The Houndour breaking free from his first attempt was not too surprising to Marchbaby as Houndour did not look like the type who would give up easily. His main problem however was that he could not weaken it in a Pokemon battle and if he tried to use a rock it might be more likely to try and escape and he wanted to minimize the odds of that happening and use as many of the safari balls as he could while he was here as it would be a long time before he would return. With no other safe option left Marchbaby knew he had to keep tossing safari balls hoping his luck would pan out before the Houndour would make a break for it.
" Time to try another safari ball, Houndour I really hope you will decide to come along with me." He said as he tossed the ball and waited for the results hoping that things would go better for him this time around.

As the Safari Ball sailed through the air and made a direct hit on the wild Houndour's head, the red flash of light sucked it up. The spherical capture device wobbled as the Houndour tried to get out of its confined space. It all depended on Lady Luck to make sure the canine Pokemon didn't get out this time. Unfortunately, the odds were not in Marchbaby's favor as the wild Houndour broke free from the Safari Ball, still with a neutral expression on its face. As the winds in the desert blew around the broken camouflaged ball, the wild Houndour was still intrigued of this human. Perhaps it just wanted to see how far this human would go in catching it, not that it wouldn't go down without a fight. It barked as it did not try to run, but rather, it would stay in one place. Despite his bad string of luck at trying to capture the Houndour, he was not about to give up on trying to capture it as he knew how useful a Houndour of its level could be super useful for his plans but so far his luck at capturing it at been nothing short of awful. As he still had plenty of Safari Balls left and he was in no hurry to give up if the Houndour was going to keep giving him a chance to capture it. " Well you certainly are a tough Pokemon to break out of two Safari Balls like that, maybe the third time will be the charm."
After he reached into his backpack and grabbed a Safari Ball he got ready to toss it at the hellhound hoping that against all odds he would succeed this time around. Even if he failed to capture it though he was really starting to admire its desire to remain free as few Pokemon would be able to break free so frequently even at full health.

The houndour seemed to want to tease Marchbaby as it kept jumping out of the safari balls but still stayed around for him to try throw more. It barked again and it probably sounded a mockingly, it could be understood as such. The houndour pawed the dry ground and whirled sand into the air, almost hiding it from sight but Marchbaby still hit the mark and a flash of red appeared as it was sucked into the safari ball once more. It wiggled once... It wiggled twice... It wiggled... And sprung up as the houndour leaped out and bounded a few steps away. Then it shook its fur making the dust swirl around it, before it returned to stare challenging at Marchbaby once more. The Houndour breaking out again was a bit disappointing as Marchbaby was really hoping the hound would decide to come with him by now. Even though it tempted him to try and switch tactics he knew he still had a few more Safari Balls he could spare before he would be wasting the chance to catch a rarer Pokemon and so he decided to try his luck again hoping lady luck would finally be kind to him. " You sure are a determined Houndour I give you that, I might just have to try a different tactic if you break out of this Safari Ball."
After congratulating the Houndour on its determination and fighting spirit he grabbed another Safari Ball from his backpack and took aim at the canine. Though his luck had been anything but great up to this point he knew he had to give it another try as it would be a great first capture in the Safari Zone.

The houndour puffed out its chest and basked in Marchbaby's praise, it seemed like it agreed a lot with what he was saying. It watched calmly while he found yet another pokeball which it now new what did and just as Marchbaby threw it, it threw back its head and howled loudly. The ball hit it and sucked it and cut its howling short. Landing on the ground with a puf of sand sent into the air, the ball shook once to the left... And then made the ding that confirmed the capture! It looked like it had decided to join Marchbaby after all. A faint howl from far away rose as answer to the captured houndour's who obviously couldn't answer, and then everything fell silent. The desert was as hot and dry as always and it was free to March to continue to explore the area and see what else he could encounter. With the Houndour finally captured Marchbaby was thrilled to capture it without needing to use yet another ball. His patience had payed off but his free trip to the Safari Zone was just getting started as this was just the first of ten encounters he was allowed to have. " Fantastic, you will make a wonderful member of my team, for now though it is time for me to keep looking for more Pokemon so I can make the most of this free trip. I think I will keep looking around here for the time being." After pausing to count the number of balls he had remaining he started to comb the desert hoping to find another Pokemon.

The heat shimmered over the hot sand as Marchbaby continued, he might saw some movements in the distance or it might have been a mirage. Little moved in the heat and the howling that had been heard while he had attempted to capture Midnight had quieted as well. The desert changed a bit and became less switching sands and more solid and a few cactus appeared, they were different kinds, both tall and short and round and all with a lot of spikes. Several of them looked like something had taken a bite out of them, probably to get to the water inside, there was little elsewhere. Then one of the catus moved! It turned to look at Marchbaby as it hadn't seen anyone like him before, it felt rather safe as it didn't expect the hairless creature to be able to get past its spines, or any of the cactus' spines if he wanted water. So what was he doing here? Marchbaby was a bit shocked to see a Cacnea appear as they were not a very common Pokemon in Johto but as he already had a Cacnea he really did not have a need for another one and as such he did not want to disturb the grass type more than he had to. " I am sorry to bother you Cacnea but do not worry, I won't try to capture you as I already own one of your kind and I only have a limited number of Safari Balls to use on my free trip. Enjoy your freedom." He said before he walked away from the grass type. It may have been a wasted encounter but at least it did not cost him a Safari Ball.

The cacnea looked curious as he apologized to it and watched as he walked away. It resumed back to what it had been doing when he had arrived. As Marchbaby continued a rockformation appeared and the sand gave away to solid rock around it, the shades looked pleasantly cool in this burning sun although no pokemon took advantage of it. A hollow laughter echoed among the stones but nothing was visible, it was a bit hard to get spooked in brought daylight. The shadows gathered in a corner and a red light appeared, the duskull eyed the human to see his reaction but stayed out of the sun. The combination of a somewhat creepy laugh along with a shadow coming together with a red eye was a little bit unnerving as Marchbaby certainly did not expect to encounter a ghost type in the desert like this but as the Duskull fully formed he was not going to waste any time in trying to capture it. " Oh cool a Duskull, you would make the perfect friend for Atropos if I manage to capture you." Mere seconds later Marchbaby grabbed one of the Safari Ball's from his backpack and got ready to toss it at the ghost type. He just hoped the ghost would not put up too much of a fight.
