Zigor zoomed forward at Travis' command. The Zubat didn't have to worry about traps on the ground, and it was much faster than Rex. It almost seemed to disappear an instant to show up right in Rex' face and gave a startling cry that made the Swinub forget to watch out for where he put his feet, and he stumbled back right into something that snapped beneath him. Luckily for Rex it was just a dry branch, and he stayed firmly on the ground. Travis chuckled. "Zigor almost had you fooled there, little pig. Good thinking, Zigor. See if you can't scare it into the last one."Rex shook himself and went for sending a puff cloud of chilly snow after the flying bat, who didn't entirely manage to avoid it, despite its best efforts. The powdery snow brushed it ears and the teeth clattered in its mouth, but it stayed in the air to circle Rex, while looking for another opportunity to attack. Bishop himself hadn't much luck with the net he was dangling in, unless of course he had something sharp on his person to cut the ropes. Travis acted confident and kept half an eye on the youngster while the Pokemon kept each other occupied. He shook his head at Bishop's attempt to find knots to undue. "You aren't getting out of there that easy, boy. Don't you know traps are meant to hold their prey until the hunter comes back?" While talking Travis leaned casually against a tree. If Bishop paid attention he would notice a thin line of wire tied to that exact tree, and the wire seemed to connect to the trapping net. The question was of course how Bishop was to get the wire loose, when only someone out of the net could reach it. vs Hunter Travis [attr="class","qkt-bkgd"] [attr="class","qkt-wild-pkmn"] [attr="class","qkt-clip"]Travis' Zigor LV 10 HP 61% [19/31] [attr="class","qkt-wild-imgbox"] [attr="class","qkt-pkmn-img"] [attr="class","qkt-trainer-pkmn"] [attr="class","qkt-clip"]Bishop's Rex LV 9 HP 83% [25/30] [attr="class","qkt-trainer-imgbox"] [attr="class","qkt-pkmn-img"] Zigor [Inner Focus]: Normal (spd 19) Rex [Oblivious]: Normal (spd 16) <Zigor used Astonish. Bishop disliked the hunter more every moment the man continued talking. He could guess Rex would win his fight with the Zubat, provided he too didn't fall into a trap. But it wouldn't mean much if he himself was still trussed up like this. He didn't want to put his poor pokemon into the position of having to deal with their trainer being used against them as a hostage!
"Your doing great Rex. Careful where you step and use the Powder Snow again. Flying types hate that!"
Which was exactly why he had brought Rex on this little side adventure. They had to train up the attacks that would be useful against Falkner in the gym. Now was not the time to be concerned with that though. If he didn't solve his current problem they wouldn't even make it that far.
Trying to take advantage of a moment when Travis was looking away he twisted around till he could get his hand on the pokeballs on his belt. Selecting the one that contained his young Sableye Bishop released Topaz...all the while trying to keep his captor from noticing. With some effort he tried to get her to appear on top of the net he was held in.
"Try to cut the rope that holds this net up with your scratch attack," he said in an urgent whisper, hoping she would understand the intent and that the hunter wouldn't notice the small, darkly colored pokemon in the gloom. Or at the very least he wouldn't be able to do anything about it till she cut the rope and he had a chance to escape.

The poacher didn't seem to be in any hurry, if anything he enjoyed watching the battle going on in front of him, while still keeping an eye on Bishop and the houndur. "Come on Zigor, you don't trap it like that, make it loose control," Travis called out to his zubat, who continued to circle around Rex and making it hard for him to keep it in front of him. It didn't become any easier when Zigor sent a wave of sound waves directly at Rex, who had no way of covering his ears. Not that it would have made much difference as the sound felt like it traveled through anything and Rex quickly felt lightheaded. Luckily for him it didn't become anything more than that, it was probably the adrenaline that kept him full alert. The swinub hadn't moved much and Zigor decided to try another tactic, when the confusion hadn't worked. As Rex prepared to fill the air with more falling snow, Zigor darted out of the way and hid behind a tree. Now Rex was forced to shuffle through the dry leaves to get to the zubat, and he had no way of knowing where there might be traps. He would manage to get far enough around to see Zigor, which had the disadvantage of not being able to hear how far Rex was, but only that he was moving through the leaves, and the swinub successfully iced the wings of his opponent. Zigor had a hard time staying airborne after that and did its best to flap around the treetrunk to keep it between it and Rex. Topaz had a hard time finding her balance on the unstable net. There wasn't really a rope holding the net up, but instead a thin wire that shimmered in the dim light, although that would be hard for Bishop to see from where he was sitting. She could either try scratch the ropes that made out the net itself, with the risk of scratching Bishop as well, already now it would be hard for her to hold on to it without poking Bishop with her claws. Another option was to try sneak over to Travis and free the wire there, which would also free the net. It would be easy for a ghost to hide in the shadows, but it was of course and risk to move close to the poacher, who knew if he would do if he saw her? Travis looked not too pleased with how the battle was turning out, and he had pushed himself from the tree and was looking through a little backpack looking for something. His attention was more on the houndour so perhaps he planned to do something to trap the mother. Maybe he was just too tentative where Topaz was concerned. She had actually hatched from her egg in his arms after all; the first pokemon he had seen born. It was natural that he would be protective of her. But she would never reach her full potential if he didn't give her room to grow. And maybe of equal importance he might never get out of this net without letting her take the chance.
"Topaz, do you see that wire by the tree?" he asked in a whisper to keep the trapper from hearing. "Try to sneak over and free the wire so I can get out of this thing....and please don't let him see you."
She glanced towards the wire and studied it for a moment before nodding and slipping off into the shadows. Bishop watched her with some concern but quickly tried to get his mind back in to the main battle. He had to try and keep Travis distracted, instruct Rex and be ready to release another pokemon just in case.
"Your doing great Rex. Powder Snow again....that flying rat can't take much more."
Then, turning his attention to the other trainer he continued:
"So are you part of Team Rocket too? Like those other pokemon thieves?"
Come on he thought to himself. Keep looking at me instead of at the wire....and then if Sable can get him loose he would be more than glad to punch this other dude right in the nose.

Travis rummaged through his bag and only shot regular glances up at either the Houndours or Bishop. He gave a huff of a laugh, when Bishop asked if he was part of the infamous group. "Team Rocket?!" he said after a moment, standing up with a rope-look-a-like and at least one Pokeball. "Whatever would I have to do with Team Rocket from Kanto? That rag tag group died off years ago, didn't it? I'm surprised a kid like you knows about it." He juggled the Pokeball in his fingers, and looked almost curious at Bishop. At least Bishop had gotten his full attention, or most of it. Travis' eyes kept glancing off to either the Houndours or Zigor's fight. "I know the snow is tough on you, Zigor, but do try to keep up. That Swinub is a bit lively yet. How about taking it's energy away." He suggested almost nonchalantly. Zigor was dragging through the air with difficulty, but the Zubat was still a bit faster than Rex, and at Travis' advice it worked itself out from hiding behind the trees and pretended to loose the little height it kept to drop right down on top of Rex, digging its teeth into his fur. As soon the teeth entered Rex felt the drain of the attack, making him stagger, and he screeched at the unwelcome sensation. Before the Zubat could get away to the trees again, Rex followed up with another shower of powdery snow, and Zigor's newly gained energy didn't save it from hitting the ground. Travis sighed. "Oh, well. It was worth a shot, and your little piggy looks decently tired. Your turn, Xanti." The Hunter opened the new Pokeball, and only when a Sneasel stood menacing ready, did he call back the fainted Zigor. Behind Travis; and luckily the hunter had yet to look; Topaz had snuck her way to the right tree, and was trying to find the well hidden knot on the wire to the trap. vs Hunter Travis [attr="class","qkt-bkgd"] [attr="class","qkt-wild-pkmn"] [attr="class","qkt-clip"]Travis' Zigor LV 10 HP 0% [0/31] [attr="class","qkt-wild-imgbox"] [attr="class","qkt-pkmn-img"] [attr="class","qkt-trainer-pkmn"] [attr="class","qkt-clip"]Bishop's Rex LV 9 HP 30% [9/30] [attr="class","qkt-trainer-imgbox"] [attr="class","qkt-pkmn-img"] Travis' Zigor [Inner Focus]: Normal (spd 19) Bishop's Rex [Oblivious]: Normal (spd 16) >Zigor used Leech Life. Rex had definitely seen better days and it was time for him to switch out of battle. Fortunately Bishop was able to twist around enough to use his pokeballs. For now he definitely had the other trainers attention which would give Topaz more time to set him free.
"That's enough Rex. Time for you to rest. Ember, I choose you! Use your Ember attack!"
Saying that he called the Swinub back and replaced him with Ember. As if the appearance of a level 18 Charmander wouldn't be enough of a distraction Bishop kept talking so Travis wouldn't notice what they were really up to.
"Team Rocket isn't as dead as you seem to think. I ran into them here in Cherrygrove in the last week and kind of figured all you pokemon thieves were in the same club."
Just gotta keep him talking Bishop thought. With Ember being more than a match for his Senasel he just needed to get out of this net so he wouldn't be a hostage anymore. Then they could really light a fire under this guy!
Ooc: Please let Rex forget Odor Sleuth and learn Mud Slap. Thanks!

A moment of panic crossed the trapper's face when Bishop managed to wriggle enough to switch out his pokémon. His bottom lip found itself under some teeth as he cursed under his breath. He'd been hoping that net would hinder the boy enough to make this an easy win. But Travis couldn't let the kid think he had him on the ropes. "Pah! Probably some wannabes," the man spat, "I'm much more professional than those vagabonds. Sleazy deals and petty thefts. Chump change for chumps I say," he continued. Each word bolstering his confidence a little, however short lived. The charmeleon rumbling up fire in his maw would put a quick end to this whole thing. No sooner had Travis ordered Xanti to screech was Ember throwing a field of fire down upon the sneasel. Travis was so used to his clawed pokémon being swifter than anything else he hadn't even considered just how outclassed he was against Bishop's first companion. It wouldn't even be his last mistake for this encounter. With urgent profanities slipping from his tongue Travis withdrew his sneasel before he had even hit the ground from the overwhelming flames. The hunter turned and made to bolt and everything seemed to come alive at once. The caged houndour became restless, a rustling in the woods intensified, Ember's fire crackled as it died down. Even from the prone position Bishop endured he could see Travis had turned toward where Topaz had been sneaking to the trunk which held the other end of the net line. The trapper spotted the ghost crawling from the backside of the tree toward him. There was a second of consideration between them both before Topaz did what came natural to protect herself: spook. There was a flash of claw and awkward crank of the neck that would send shivers up anyone's spine as a crack sounded. Travis, startled, fumbled his next steps and found his foot catching on the line as he raced to jump it. The line snapped, freeing Bishop from the taunt pull of wire mesh. As the man tumbled across the ground a new body burst onto the scene. Dressed in formal blues, badge flashing on her chest, the woman wasted no time in pinpointing her target. "Travis!" she shouted authoritatively. The man was just finishing his roll. The officer rushed over to him with cuffs jangling at her side, "You're not getting away this time." Soon she overshadowed the hunter, pushing him back to the ground as he tried to recover and make a break for it. The houndour howled victoriously as the cuffs were secured onto his wrists. "You're under arrest for poaching, trafficking of protected species, and illegal apprehension of wild, and owned, pokémon. You'll be joining me at the station this afternoon." She hoisted Travis onto his feet. His face was dirt stained and scowling, a limp present as the officer walked him over to where Bishop had been trapped. "Thank you trainer. If you hadn't distracted him long enough he might have been able to move off site before I made it here. You helped make this arrest possible." With a smile Officer Jenny, as was labeled on her chest, reached out and offered the young boy a bit of reward money for the assist. "Don't worry about the houndour, I'll have people here to free them and clean this place up. Now, let's get you behind bars and see how you like being constrained," she prodded the trapper, spinning him around and beginning to head out. vs Hunter Travis [attr="class","qkt-bkgd"] [attr="class","qkt-wild-pkmn"] [attr="class","qkt-clip"]Travis' Xanti LV 10 HP 0% [0/34] [attr="class","qkt-wild-imgbox"] [attr="class","qkt-pkmn-img"] [attr="class","qkt-trainer-pkmn"] [attr="class","qkt-clip"]Bishop's Rex LV 18 HP 94% [51/54] [attr="class","qkt-trainer-imgbox"] [attr="class","qkt-pkmn-img"] Travis' Xanti [Keen Eye]: Fainted Bishop's Ember [Blaze]: Normal (Holding Charcoal) ... "Glad to help officer," Bishop said, gratefully accepting the reward. His pokemon had gotten beaten up and needed potions to continue....and he so wanted to keep looking for the other Houndour. The part of him that loved fire pokemon, a rather large part of him to be honest, hoped to catch one of the pack to travel with him.
"If it's alright I'm going to go look for the other Houndour. One of those would make a great companion."
Pausing for a moment he took potions out of his pack and gave one each to Blossom, Pug, Rex and Zena. Topaz hadn't been hurt and Ember was mostly undamaged. Luckily he had remembered to give Blossom a full heal earlier to take care of her poison. He would definitely need to stop by the pokemon center later and restock on supplies.
Before going to explore the center path he stopped and regarded the pups and momma Houndour. It was easy to understand now why they had acted the way they had. He hoped the trapper would get to spend a nice long time in jail thinking about what he had done. Before leaving he took some food out of his pack and left it for the Houndour. Bishop had plenty and was going to the store soon anyway. He could afford to leave some for them since they had been so hungry. It only seemed right.

As Bishop made it back to follow the center path, the foot prints of this Houndour was barely visible anymore. Luckily, the path ran straight on through the trees, a well used trail by many feet, and ended in a clearing with a big colourful show tent of some kind. At first nothing seemed particular off about the place, exempt maybe for the lack of people, then a 'psst' to the right of Bishop drew his attention, and a young man waved him over in an urgent manner. "Hi, there. I haven't seen you around before." he started in an almost whisper when Bishop got close enough to hear. "You wouldn't by any chance be able to help me?" he pleaded just as quiet. "You see, I'm investigating some rumours of Pokemon abuse in the area, and I believe I've finally found the culprit. I would call the police, but they are pretty busy with a poacher of some kind, and I haven't really solid proof yet. This guy seems to have a sixth sense when it comes to hiding his abrasive behaviour. I was hoping a new face would throw him off enough for us to get proof. I'm Sammy by the way." He held out a hand in greeting, finally taking a breath of air after his rushed speech, and he looked questioning at Bishop until his response, hopefully in the affirmative. If Bishop agreed, Sammy sighed with relief and went to instruct Bishop on the kind of help he needed. He pointed to an opening in the tent. "I just need you to sneak in there and see for yourself what's really going on, when the coordinator doesn't have guests or a show running. If you are able, you can take a picture with this." Sammy handed Bishop a smaller phone set to camera already. Before he could explain further a pitiful howling sound escaped from the tent, and Sammy froze momentarily before starting to push Bishop towards the opening. "Hurry! That sounds like the proof we need!" He winced. "And please stop the guy as fast as possible after. You're a trainer, right? You can easily handle his cat."Bishop would know more clearly what Sammy meant, when he entered the tent to find a guy whipping the second Houndour he had been after. "You useless piece of trash!" the abuser was hissing. With his back turned to the opening he didn't see Bishop enter, but a Glameow by his feet was staring right at him, and could alert the abuser any moment. vs Co-ordinator Rod Weather: Blooming (Clear)Co-ordinator Rod has a Glameow (lvl 10) to defend himself. Bishop was a bit confused by Sammy's request at first but became determined once he heard the words pokemon abuse. It seemed he was going to have something else to be mad about today. Accepting the phone he stepped forward, digging out a pokeball with his free hand. When told the abuser had a cat pokemon to defend him Bishop had just the friend of his own to fight such a thing.
Once inside the tent he could see what was happening. Bishop snapped the picture even as he released his Mankey. Fighting versus normal was just the sort of type advantage he would need here.
"Pug, use Low Kick. Let's teach these folks why it's not nice to abuse pokemon."
He was too mad now to even argue with the guy. All he wanted to do was put him out of action, rescue the poor Houndour and call the police. This was really too much and he was beside himself with aggravation.

Rod snapped his head around as he heard Bishop speak and his eyes widened in shock. His glameow reacted immediately and leaped forward and landed right in front of Pug, and showed him out of the tent with a push of her shoulder. The mankey was taken by surprise and would need a few moments to collect himself, although he would not fall for that again. "Easy now Jewel, come back here," Rod called calmly while studying Bishop closely. His face darkened when he noticed the camera in Bishop's hand and he looked like he thought hard on how to get out of this. He glanced back to look at the houndour, who were still laying shaking in a corner, whimpering. "It's not what it looks like," he said warily while trying to sound reassuringly but it didn't really work in the tense atmosphere in the tent. Jewel hissed at the houndour when it moved a bit and Rod gave her a gentle nudge with his foot, and she turned to stare at Bishop instead, tail twitching. "It's a part of our routine, we're coordinators and this is just a show for the competition, You know, cats vs dogs," The abusive trainer tried to convince Bishop. "Get up!" He snapped back at the houndour, "you don't have to act anymore!"The houndour flinched at the hard tone but slowly got to its feet, tail stuk in between its legs and it kept its head lowered and eyes on the ground. Rod took a single step forward and held out a hand. "Please give me the camera, I have competitors who'd love to spy on my shows and steal my ideas," he said watching Bishop warily, "I just need any picture of my training and you will get it back, I promise."Beside him Jewel had crouched down and with a wriggling but she was ready to pounce, either Bishop himself or any pokemon that appeared. He didn't even reply to the man. Bishop just slipped the camera phone in his pocket even as he flinched a bit when Pug was hit with the Fake Out attack. He hadn't realized that Glameow had that particular one in it's arsenal. Looked like he would have to do a bit more studying going forward. On the plus side though it couldn't do that again and, searching his mind for a moment, he didn't think it would have anything more harsh than Scratch to use going forward...or so he hoped.
"Pug, I know that hurt but use your Low Kick on the cat."
If he was right then Pug should be able to take another hit before he used a potion. So long as he didn't go down right away then his fighting type should win in the end if he played his cards right.
"Don't worry, he said, casting a glance towards the Houndour. "We are here to help you. And the police have caught the poacher. The mother and pups are safe."
He hoped to befriend the fire type if possible. Even if not he meant to save it from further abuse.

Rod looked uncertain for a moment when Bishop didn't reacted to what he said, but when it became clear that Bishop was simply ignoring the coordinator, Rod snarled silently. He dropped the act in pretending that he was not doing something most others looks badly upon and got a cold look in his eyes. No need in wasting time pretending to be something else if the other part didn't even want acknowledge you. "Let it get in," he said quietly as they waited for Pug to get to his feet and return back into the tent. "Keep them in and get it down!" He ordered snarling and the houndour recoiled while Jewel darted around Pug and blocked the entrance. She hissed as she let her claws rip thought the mankey's back and while she was by far the fastest, he had some pretty good reaction times. He bend down and made a sweeping kick backwards and knocked the cat off her feet. Jewel was quickly back on her feet glaring Pug down with her tail switching angrily behind her, she would make him pay for that! "You make no sense, do you know that?" Rod snorted at Bishop's attempt to coax the houndour. "You stay where you are, or else!" He snapped at the dog, who tried to make itself as small as possible. Rod didn't even look at the houndour to know that it was too scared to disobey. "Last chance, hand me that camera," Rod demanded of Bishop but didn't expect to be followed. He had been wrong...again. Silently Bishop berated himself for being so careless. The level difference was too much and the cat was just too fast for Pug. As much as the fighting type wanted to prove himself Bishop just couldn't let him take a beating because of his own failings as a trainer. Instead of a potion he had to switch him out.
"Pug, come on back!" he said, recalling the reluctant Mankey back even as he sent out another. "Blossom! Use Shock Wave!"
Bishop didn't have time to say or even think anything further. Much to his surprise Rod had jumped over to try and take the camera. The pokeballs clattered across the floor of the tent as Bishop was knocked to the ground. The camera was still secure in his pocket but he had to fend off the man or he might lose the evidence!
"Get off me!" he snarled, kicking back to knock the other fellow away. Rod was larger than Bishop but the young trainer was fast and filled with righteous anger. All he had to do was keep from being captured long enough for his Pikachu to take out the Glameow. Then Rod would be in for a very shocking experience.

Jewel was already through the air as Pug disappeared in the Pokeball's flash of light. Instead the Glameow found herself scratching down a yellow mouse, and the missed opportunity for revenge made her anger grow. The Pikachu however wasn't as much a pushover as the Mankey had been, and Jewel realised with growing frustration that her claws were fended off rather easily. She left scratches alright, but the mouse just shook herself slightly and looked no worse for wear. Jewel hissed, and then yowled with pain as Blossom charged the air around the cat with jolting electricity. It took the Glameow by complete surprise as she hadn't even seen Blossom ready the shock wave. Jewel panted heavily when the jolts finally subsided, and her legs were shaking, but it didn't stop her from going in for another scratch attack. Rod only attempted for a few seconds to get his hands on the camera in Bishop's pocket. As soon the boy started kicking he rolled away and got to his feet again huffing. He brushed himself off, his face red from either anger or the exercise. "You good-for-nothing righteous people are all the same." he hissed, punctuating the word 'righteous' with a sarcastic tone. He wasn't looking at Bishop exactly, and he now spotted that he had changed Pokemon. "What? You can't stand to see your nice little friends getting a little hurt either?" It sounded rhetorically, and he kept 'not' looking directly at Bishop, his face turned sideways. Despite Rod's obvious agitation before, he looked surprisingly calm with a nasty smirk on the lips. It was an act however. If or when Bishop got back on his feet, Rod was hoping the boy would be too angry to be careful. As long as Jewel was still fighting, Rod had time to make another go at that blasted phone. Persuasion and brute force hand't worked, so he would have to lure the boy instead.
