Since we usually have a thread for each new gen I figured with Sword and Shield being announced now would be a good time to start an actual thread about them and the above announcement trailer just in case someone had not seen it yet. I am quite excited though the lack of new Pokemon shown off besides the starters has me a bit worried about how many new ones there will be.
Setting wise the UK makes for quite an interesting choice as it would put it right next to Kalos assuming the regions are close to their real world counter parts and it does make me wonder if it will be in the post game as there have been some rumors going around about that though as only gen 2 and HGSS had 2 regions so far that might be a bit too much wishful thinking.
The steampunk city looks really cool and London getting a city based off of it is pretty cool, the London city looks huge and I do wonder how much of it we will be able to explore. The dragon fort also looks awesome and without seeing most of the cities outright so far it is my favorite based off of the map designs. Interestingly according to a post Serebii made the routes on the map are about 1:1 in scale but the cities are far larger than they appear on the map so they should be really fun to explore.
Is anyone else excited for them? If so which version are you getting? I will be getting both as usual being the crazy person I am both to get the exclusives easier and to potentially help with coming up with ideas to use on here as well.

I will be getting Sword version (I still need to buy the switch when it is on sale). I love that the setting looks like it's the UK in a steampunk appearance and yeah, I'm excited for them. I have already picked out my starter though it'll probably change once we see the evolutions.

This looks interesting enough I'd love to try it out given the opportunity ^^ If only I had a Switch. Maybe I'll get to mooch off my brother's console on a Christmas visit if he ends up getting one of them Overall I'm not too interested in any of the base form starters. They all look the same to me. Can't really decide on one until I see the final evolution, so excited for more updates on it! That and any new region pokémon would be good. Will just have to stay tuned for those. As long as they fill those [potentially] massive cities with interesting content I won't mind the size but hopefully it's not just all floof.

A new generation is always exciting! I can hardly wait! Personally, Im with you March. Ive already pre-ordered both Sword and Shield for myself, just so I can have access to everything the Galar region has to offer. And by the way, not tryin to be rude or anything, but you guys are seriously unprepared. I bought myself a Switch over a year ago, all because I knew the next gen of Pokémon would be on it. Seriously, its still in its box. Completely unopened. My brother has a Switch and he lets me play it all the time, but since he's gonna be getting Sword and Shield too, I thought it best to get a Switch of my own, so as to avoid conflict. Im planning on playing Shield first, and my bro is gonna play Sword first. We always go into new gens together, and trade exclusive items and Pokémon we like from each other's games if need be. Anyway, onto the Galar region itself. Ive actually been to the UK myself, so Im interested in seeing how the games compare to the real world. Im also excited that they've decided to go back to good old fashion gym battles. The trials in Alola were fun, but I definitely prefer gym battles. And while I know we haven't seen much from these new starters just yet, Ive already made my choice. Im goin with Sobble. Its a chameleon, and that's good enough for me. Ive always greatly preferred reptiles as opposed to mammals, which Grooky and Sorbunny are. And speaking of Pokémon, that's the thing Im most excited for. Discovering all the new Pokémon of Galar! Honestly, I expected that they'd only show off the starters in the reveal trailer for the gen 8 games, and Im extremely eager to see more. I don't know if any of you have noticed but there are a lot of animals that they haven't used yet for Pokémon. Peacock, dolphin, swordfish, etc. And just because these games are set in the UK, doesn't mean they'll only use animals from the UK. For example, Alola was based off Hawaii, and Im pretty sure owls and tigers are not native to Hawaii. So I like to think that anything is possible. But more then the kinds of Pokémon we'll see, Im way more interested in the types of Pokémon we'll see. New type combinations, and new members of my favorite types. Especially Poison types, obviously. Here are my top three hopes for new type combinations for the Galar region. Poison/Electric. Poison/Ice. And Poison/Steel. I think those would all be totally awesome! Also, I think a lot of you might be forgetting about another big aspect of a new generation of Pokémon. The anime and manga. I don't know if all of you have been keeping up with them, but I never stopped watching and reading, respectively. As I played through each new Pokémon game, I always loved seeing those characters come to life in the anime. Not to mention all the unique battles and situations you don't get to see in the games. Not only that, but going by the formula, the Galar region should also have a new evil organization for us to battle, which is another thing Im excited for. In case ya couldn't tell, Im not a very picky person when it comes to Pokémon. I just really love Pokémon as a whole, and Im overjoyed to see and experience more of it. Honestly, there's not a single Pokémon game or anime adaption that Ive hated. Not even one. Bottom line, I think its awesome that we're getting an 8th generation of Pokémon, and I cant wait to start my journey through it.

Venominon We're only unprepared if we had planned on playing as one of the first, or planned on playing it at all Well, I find it hard to be excited when I have dead in all games and it has been a battle to finish them, except gen 4 which was the one I startet with. (I have just finished Sun the other day) I think I have become too old and the things are looking too much alike, and then I really need the feeling of personality and connection which I get on the forums. (but that is a problem for me with all games, and what makes me grow tired eventually) I also think that there are rarely a new pokemon that I really like before I get used to it, dampens my excitement for new pokemon. I know there will always be a few I will like and that I usually grow to learn to love the rest eventually. I had decided to get the switch for let's go pikachu/eevee as I was so happy we could play co-op, until I learned the second just borrowed a single pokemon, then the idea was dropped and I assumed that I didn't want to buy more games since I didn't get to finish them anyway. To end all the negativity I admit that this trailer has caught my interest once more and I have now decided that I might want to get a switch and one of the games (I have to think of what I have money for as well now, I had enough when the other games came out and it was no problem just to buy what I wanted). I'm leaning towards the Grookey for now, although I'm often leaning towards the grassstarter. Their evolution will end decide but I'd probably try get them all on here or similar if possible, to try them out the way I like None of them have clicked with me like Chikorita, Cyndaquil and partly Totodile did, but they are also my favorite and hard to compete with I'm looking forward to the anime, I hope, it took me a bit of time to get used to the Alolan one, especially since I really liked the one before that. I hope that I will be able to find a place to watch it as that has stuck me with the alolan anime, danish netflix hasn't updated with new episodes there for a long time now. (and it's not finished!) I do really look forward for the new pokemon and ideas to be implementet here on zapdos and I am excited to get a chance to play with the pokemon and explore the ideas they give. Although I have to be patient for that XD

Being our resident UK citizen, I feel like I should get my thoughts on these games down on paper.
Fortunately, my mother actually got me a Switch last Christmas (apparently I'm still young enough that she feels duty-bound to spend way more on me than she really ought to :p). As such I will, assuming I have the cash, be getting one of these (maybe both depending on how invested I end up getting), though I have to say I'm less interested than with previous titles so far. The starters aren't that exciting IMO (though they're growing on me, particularly Scorbunny), so I'm hoping for a few more interesting designs down the line. There's a lot of real potential there though, luckily. All kinds of weird and wonderful folklore over here that one could adapt. For example, I'd love to see a Loch Ness Monster show up. Kinda hoping Sobble evolves into that, actually (water-based, can camouflage to stay out of the eyes of the public... it's not outside the realms of possibility), but it's more likely to be a legend if it shows up at all. Gyms are back, as far as I can tell, which is great news. Much as I loved Gen VII's unique Trial system, I kinda miss the old system.
And now... the region. Oh boy. Ohhhh boy. I'm not going to sit here and moan about how it's not 100% identical to the actual UK landscape because that's daft beyond belief, but why oh why is it flipped vertically? (Yes, that is exactly what I'm calling it because otherwise they literally just put London in Scotland for no good reason. I can accept many things, but surrendering London to the Scots is not one of them. :p) I've mentioned this on Discord but... it just bugs me because it feels so weird to look at the map and see London up north surrounded by mountains. This'll take some serious getting used to, to say the least. Oh, also, it's technically just Great Britain and not the UK (Northern Ireland is absent). I'm saying this now before someone else calls me out for not bringing that up.
That said, though, there is a lot to like. Loads of really nice nods to famous British landmarks here. Kinda disappointed that I don't see a Stonehenge or something else from my neck of the woods though, especially with how barren the rural parts of Galar look. Meh. That's just me being selfish, though. Also got to throw my support in for the "steampunk" city, though frankly it feels less like that and more like a straight-up copy of 19th century Britain. Either way, it's a nice touch given the UK's leading role in the Industrial Revolution. I'd be interested to see if they completely forego the usual futuristic tech for that one city, actually. Maybe not, but a man can dream. I like my historical elements.
One thing I did notice though is that there is a LOT of empty space in Galar. It feels like you start somewhere in the south and traverse northward, but there is such a huge gap between the southern towns and cities up north. I really hope that the region has loads to do already, because otherwise that feels like such a waste of potential. It also makes me wonder if train travel is going to be a key feature here. You've got that one set of tracks in the west that kinda bypasses the wasteland I mentioned, as well as a couple of others across Galar. It's a bit of a lazy way to "fill out" the region, but it could be interesting. Particularly if the train service is realistic. Of course, by that I mean "thoroughly unreliable". :p I can just imagine having to get to the station early and sitting there for 30+ minutes while you wait for the train to turn up. Could even have some trainers challenge you to a battle while you wait! Actually, this is beginning to sound like a legitimately decent concept...
Overall, I am watching the developments here with a cautious sense of intrigue. I suspect I'll go full hype-beast once we get a little more info though. 'S a good start to the next generation!

The new Direct is out!

I am really looking forward to the games even more after that direct but putting most of my response in a spoiler tag to be safe.
The Dynamaxing seems less broken than megas but more useful than Z-moves. Every Pokemon being able to do it is nice. According to a rumor posted Gigantimaxing will be a thing as well for some Pokemon such as Lapras which is true is interesting. They also mentioned a Farfetch'd evolution which is long overdue.
I love the box legendaries but I wish Zacian had more of a design like Ammy from Okami. Otherwise they are amoung the better recent pairings though I love wolves so I am kind of biased there.
Corviknight is easily my favorite new Pokemon and as soon as we add gen 8 here I am going to try and get one for Kevin. I just hope its stats as are awesome as its design. As for the other Pokemon I do not hate any of them but Scorbunny remains my least favorite of the ones shown so far.
The wild area is super interesting and I love the over world encounters like in Let's Go Pikachu and Eevee. The free camera is nice as well and long overdue that should really increase the sense of freedom a lot of the games lack. I really hope if gen 4 gets a remake that they add similar areas to it.
All of the new characters look interesting and the champion reminds me so much of Iris. I am really looking forward to facing him. The new rival is a bit odd but far from unbearable.
The Rotom phone looks neat and unlike the Rotom Dex it seems to have more uses. Turning the bike into a water bike must give poor Professor Oak a stroke as that breaks all the usual rules of using a bike.
If there is one thing I am not a fan of it is the high number of old Pokemon showing up so far, it has me worried that this will be another small generation though I could be wrong and the old ones just help make Galar feel even bigger. I just really hope for at least 100 new Pokemon this time around.

Well, the earlier trailer got me hooked a bit and interested, I did actually think I wanted the game and a switch.. but this latest one has turned me off quite a bit again I don't really like any of the pokemon (I really have a hard time having the object-looking ones grow on me) and the gigantamaxing is not helping at all.. I'll see what else they present I might change my mind again, as I have already done a couple of time by now, hehe

I haven't been impressed by this at all, especially since they've announced that there are going to be pokémon that just are not included in this gen because they had to make room for animations... WAT. I don't even like the animations, and now with Dynamaxing and Gigantimaxing or whatever... They just added a mega evolution onto their replacement mega evolution. The extent to which I'd prefer having all the pokémon versus these silly animations is indescribable.
Still loving me the Corviknight though, including its mega evolution gigantimax form. But wow. Just wow... I thought they moved away from handhelds so they didn't have to cut things from the series going forward. But apparently that was a lie.

Well there's been a couple new videos since last we posted here ^^
Any thoughts on the new stuff? Customization of trainers isn't anything new, and it seems the akemie has been replaced with camping and that seems kinda neat. I've always wanted more info on the food, and the last few gens have started getting into the cuisine fluff a bit with weird sounding dishes that include arbok venom and such haha.
The new region forms seem a bit odd design wise, but I have to say dat stash on Weezing... +1 Looks so funny xD

Customization has never said me much, in any game. I find a look and stick with it for the rest of the game usually. If I really don't care I hit randomize button a couple of times until I think it is decent and that's it I switched out of the default look on sun/moon but I really didn't like that either. Cramorant reminds me of Hei-Hei from Moana XD Cooking looks fun, I just can't see what it does other than you can do it with others? Give happiness or something perhaps? Weezing is fun, but a bit too much for my liking. I didn't fancy the original version either so its some of it. I really like zigzagoon though, although I need to get used to the last evo. I'm apparently not a fan of the pokemon standing like this, it reminds me a lot like zoroark and midnight form of lycanrock, both which are meh to me.

Yeah I'm really not a fan of the 'guy-in-a-suit' designs which have been dominating pokémon for the last few gens. It was crushing to find out Litten's final evolution was... that. And now they've done it with zigzagoon's line. Some of them are good cause they make sense to be humanoid shaped, but when they start making purrloin stand on 2 feet... >.>
I wanna see more of the cooking. It looks more complicated, at least ingredient wise, than poffin creation.

As of today a number of Pokemon have leaked. Someone was nice enough to make a chart on the Pokejungle Discord with the whole list so fat. I am putting the image in a spoiler tag so only click if you are ok with spoilers.
Edit: Added a more high def version I found on 4chan.
Edit 2: Removing the images to be safe as some people are getting in trouble for posting them.
