The long road to Ecruteak(F)

[Marchbaby]

Upon reaching the beginning of route 35 Marchbaby and his Pokemon were very happy to be finished with another gym as their training had taken so long. With the next gym in Ecruteak Marchbaby wanted to make his way there as quickly as he could though the route ahead was long and with the sun setting dark as well. " Well this is perfect for Atropos and maybe you Vör but I can hardly see a thing right now. Next time we run into Kevin I need to ask him if he has a spare flashlight we can borrow." Just as he thought Vör and him were going to have a peaceful walk in the dark Atropos had to pop out of her Pokeball and run her mouth.

" Ah the sweet serenity of the dark, after being cooped up in that blasted computer for so long this is wonderful. Once my powers grow strong enough I look forward to you keeping your promise and letting me face the gym leader in the next town." As annoying as she could be at times Marchbaby was not about to break his promise but unlike Vör he did not promise she would get to do a solo run. Kamikaze would be a great fit for the gym as well and as he was not about to take any chances as Bugsy had made him quite uneasy about taking risks.

" You will get your chance Atropos, first we have to make it through this route then we will need to train more before you will be ready. In the meantime lets see if we can make a new friend on our way there." As he finished going over the situation with Atropos Vör picked up on something approaching them in the darkness. Had it not been for her aura powers she would have even struggled to see it coming. " Something is heading our way, be ready as we have no idea what might dwell in this area." With Vör's quick warning Marchbaby made sure both of his Pokemon were ready just in case.

" Both of you be ready just in case whatever is heading towards us is trouble. We do not need to get into a bad situation so quickly after winning another badge. Hopefully whatever it is does not mean any harm." He whispered before the trio waited to see if luck would be on their side or if they would be put into a dangerous position right after their gym battle.

The sky was clear and starry, a waning moon present in the sky. As you reach the start of the route, it is evident that this area is well trafficked, though there isn't any official road connecting the city of Goldenrod to the nearby National Park, there are clear pathways where trainers frequently stomp down the grass, resulting in an unplanned typical route which trainers travel. In the night, however, there was something sinister in the air. This wasn't a typical night, there was activity happening in the shadows all around. As March, Vör and Atropos quieted down, the sounds of many pairs of heavy boots could be heard headed right towards them. They stopped a few meters away. 

"Alright boys... Here's the plan. They got some special pokémon in that national park, but they're keeping them all to themselves. We get in, we capture as many as we can, and we get out." A gruff voice said. "We're getting close now, so lets split up. We climb the fences at different points, and if anyone gets caught, we don't say a word. Boss'll bail us out if anyone gets caught, but only if they don't squeal. Best case, we don't trip any alarms, we get the pokémon and get out." If March were to peek over the tall grass, they would see the three humanoids equipped with strange almost vacuum cleaner looking devices strapped to their backs. They all wore hats which had a red "R" prominently on them. All peering over a map. "All we gotta do is snag those Sunkern and get outta there. Aparently sunkern dew is worth a killing on the black market. With these poké-launchers, we should have no problem getting them. We scattershot pokéballs into the grass, and then vacuum them up. The poké-launchers are high tech, once you vacuum up a ball it'll be ready to be transported back to base. Alright, lets split. We regroup at the rendevous point. Lets do this!" The leader said. The smallest member of the three let out a grunt of approval, and started to move away, slinking away toward the park. The leader stayed behind to roll up the map, then took a look around peering into the darkness. He let out a gruff laugh. "You're being paranoid, there's no one there..." He said under his breath. "Lets get moving." The other humanoid who stayed behind with the leader stretched its arms... then stretched its other two arms. Wait, what?!

The team rocket captain is packing up for their raid of the National Park with the last member, who looks strangely buff... wait, is that a Machamp (lvl 32) wearing team rocket clothes?!

[Marchbaby]

Hearing the rather ominous voice coming from the other side of the bush Marchbaby had no doubts he had found trouble and quite a bit more than what he had hoped for. As dark as it was he knew he could sneak a quick peak without drawing too much attention to himself after the voices quieted down but he wished he had not as he could make out 2 humanoid figures. The 4 arms on the one left him no doubt that it was a Pokemon wearing Team Rocket clothes and he really regretted not waiting for daybreak before heading out.

" So this is not very good at all." He whispered to himself as Vör and Atropos both wanted to strike the two figures before they were detected. Marchbaby agreed that a sneak attack would be best as he was no expert but a Machamp would have a huge advantage up front against most of his Pokemon. Even with a sneak attack however he doubted he could bring down such a powerful Pokemon in one hit and that is when he remembered two of his Pokemon had Sturdy as an ability and that thought was a bit relieving to him as it would buy a bit of time.

" Seeing that Machamp with such an evil team is disgusting but neither of you have a chance battling it head on, with that in mind I think Shocker will work the best here as it can try and paralyze it with Thunderbolt and if not at least its Sturdy will keep it from being knocked out in the first blow." He then tossed the Pokeball onto the ground as softly as he could but the bright flash gave away any hope of sneaking into the upcoming battle. Even so he was going to do everything he could to stop the Team Rocket member and his Pokemon from causing any harm.

" Well that did not go quite as well as I had planned but we will just have to get creative now. Shocker I know your foe has a type advantage but maybe we can get lucky and overcome it." The magnet Pokemon buzzed in excitement trying to hide its well placed worries about fighting such a formidable Pokemon. As it built up enough electricity to attack Machampy before it could strike. " Use Thunderbolt and lets hope lady luck is kind to us." He ordered as Shocker then fired off its attack.

[Thirdie]

The red flash from Shocker's ball got the remaining Team Rocket to abruptly turn towards the bushes again. "It appears I wasn't paranoid enough. Who's there?" The last part was said clearly and loud towards the disturber. March was right in being unable to surprise him as intended, and yet the bushes concealed him and Shocker enough for the Rocket to squint at the unknown entities they still were. That is, until Shocker buzzed out and sent his bolt of lightning after the Machamp. "Wow!" The Rocket Captain jumped back to avoid getting zapped of his own. "Whoever you are, you are not winning this!" He declared, and then to Machamp. "Take your Revenge on that annoying scrap heap, Mac. We can't be delayed from this minor disturbance."

Machamp shook himself after taking the brunt of the Thunderbolt. Shocker had clearly hit well, but other than that the Machamp didn't seem too affected by the attack, and it hit all its knuckles together in a threatening manner before practically jumping into the air and beating Shocker out of the air with a furious flurry of fists. Shocker landed roughly on the ground, send right back to where it had come and landing just by the bushes. Shocker buzzed weakly but buzzed none-the-less. Its sturdy had saved it just barely. "Ugh, I hate it when they survive like that." The Rocket grumbled. "Show yourself, interloper. You're not getting away from this." He then ordered with confidence towards the bushes.

Marchbaby's plan to use one of his sturdiest Pokemon had worked to some degree as Shocker was able to endure the first hit while scoring a direct hit of it's own but he knew that the steel type would not last another round against Machamp unless they could score a very lucky hit. Even with the somewhat bad news from the first round he still had 5 other Pokemon he could count on if Shocker ended up getting knocked out so he knew he had to ask the poor Magneton to stick around another round to cause as much damage as possible.

As he stepped out from the bush Marchbaby wasted no time in condemning the criminal trying to buy Shocker more time. " I might not be well equipped to deal with fighting types at the moment but I am not about to run either. Your kind sickens me and I shall show you no mercy. Once I get my hands on my brother he shall receive no mercy either." Shocker who could barely think straight was not very hopeful of the next round but knew how important it was to stop the evil man no matter the cost as it willingly placed itself to take another blow for the team.

" I really do regret having to ask you to keep going Shocker but once we get to Ecruteak I can adjust our team to counter fighting types better. For now we will just have to rely on numbers to try and overcome a powerful foe." After considering his options given the poor results from the first round Marchbaby had no doubts that Shocker had to try Thunderbolt again and hope for a really lucky strike to overcome the massive type disadvantage they currently faced.

Shocker started to build up another charge to fire off an attack as soon as Marchbaby gave the order and the young trainer quickly gave the order to strike to give the rocket very little time to react. " Shocker try Thunderbolt again and let's hope our luck pans out better this time. As powerful as it is we will need a lot of luck this round to make up for the first round." Mere seconds later the magnet Pokemon fired off a large burst of electricity sending it right at Machamp. It had been quite some time since they had needed to rely on luck to win and they hoped this round would be another case of luck being on their side.

The Team Rocket Captain glared at Marchbaby when he showed himself, how dared this.. this teenager interfering with their important job tonight? If the captain wasn't careful he could risk the whole mission and he didn't like the consequences of that.
The Captain narrowed his eyes and did a quick calculation when Marchbaby revealed he was not well equipped to take on a fighting type to make out a guess of what he had on his team. That meant no flying and psychic and probably some rock or steel types.
He huffed when Marchbaby talked about wanting to switching his team around when he got to the next town, that wouldn't really help him now.
Marchbaby's pokemon clearly was strong and though the captain felt certain that his Machamp could handle the flying magnets they could be in trouble if the trainer continued to send pokemon out of the same level of strength. He would need to do something else.

Shocker fought hard to keep conscious after the first round while the machamp looked awfully fresh and healthy.
"Show your strength and get rid of that thing," The Captain ordered machamp who tramped forward.
Shocker knew how important it was to win this battle and in a last effort to live up to Marchbaby's hope it let out an enormously bolt of lightening that struck the machamp straight in the chest. The big fighting type staggered and then collapsed on the ground.
The Team Rocket Captain snarled silently, this was turning bad!

A flash of light revealed a gigant upside down pokeball with a grinning face, an electrode!
"Get in there and get close, and be ready," its trainer ordered and the electric ball rolled forward straight at Marchbaby and his pokemon. They were going to take the battle to him and get him more than front row seats.
The Rocket recalled the machamp and let out a goldbat, he swiftly noted something down on a paper and gave it to the flying bat.
"Get this to Ed, quickly!" The Captain ordered the bat who grabbed the paper and raced off in the direction of where the third Team Rocket grunt and disappeared in.

Shocker pulled through by pure willpower!
He gains 1600 exp (1600/3169) and gains +1 happiness.


The Team Rocket Captain is not done yet, he sends out Electrode [lvl 31]

As the Machamp fell in defeat Marchbaby let out a huge sigh of relief. Shocker had somehow beaten the odds and overcame a huge type disadvantage though his relief was short lived at the rocket tossed out another Pokemon. The rather intimidating Electrode might have been a bit less scary if Marchbaby had a strong ground type but his current team would not fare much better than it had against Machamp. As much as Marchbaby hated the idea he knew Shocker would have to dig deep and battle this Electrode next. The one good piece of news was that Marchbaby had been smart enough to bring a few healing medicines and this felt like a great time to use one.

" Shocker it seems a double shift is in your future but before we can attack let me heal you with this Hyper Potion." After spraying the magnet Pokemon with the medicine Shocker was restored to full health ready to get into another tough battle. " Alright it looks like you are feeling much better Shocker, this next opponent will not be easy either so you will have to give it your all." As Marchbaby thought about how to proceed he did not think playing it safe would help too much early on and decided to go with an aggressive option to start things off.

" Shocker we have to go all out again but as Thunderbolt won't be very useful we will have to switch it with Tri Attack instead. Maybe luck will be on our side again." Shocker then acknowledged it's order as a beam of three elements started to form in front of it's magnets. Marchbaby could not help but feel nervous as he knew Electrode were both fast and had a few tricks that could be a nightmare in the event that luck turned against him. Trying to stay positive Marchbaby looked at Shocker and gave the order to fire hoping for the best.

" Shocker fire shen ready, we cannot give this Rocket to gain any chance to regain the initiative after your hard fought victory." Shocker then fired off a powerful elemental beam at high speed towards Electrode as Marchbaby crossed his fingers praying that he could get lucky again. He did not have a lot of healing items left and he knew he could not afford a long drawn out battle against a strong opponent until he could stock up on more healing items.

It seemed like neither of the trainers wanted this battle, or enjoyed it at all. Marchbaby worried his pokemon wouldn't be able to last and the Team Rocket Captain worried his mission getting washed down the drain before it even started.
The captains main focus now was to stall this trainer as long as possible, he had already warned his subordinates about the danger. He laid a plan and listened closely to what he could hear of Marchbaby's talking to his pokemon, there could be valuable information hidden within. For now he mostly learned that Marchbaby was uncomfortable about the battle and thought that the magneton was his only chance for this round.
The captain narrowed his eyes at the floating magnet, if he got that one down he might be able to chase Marchbaby off.

Electrode had not slowed down and by the time it had taken Marchbaby to make a plan and heal Shocker it had come awfully close, and it did not look like it was going to focus only on its opponent pokemon.
"Screech! Then follow up with a Thunder Shock!" The captain shouted and the electrode spun around itself sending horrible sound waves in all direction.
Shocker felt like its metal cracked and Marchbaby would get a ringing to his ears. Still spinning the electric ball released its electric attack which was surprisingly precise and hit Shocker straight on.
First now was Shocker able to combine the three orbs and fire the beam at Electrode. It sent it bumping to the side but it used the momentum to being circling around Marchbaby and Shocker. The magneton could easily float away but Marchbaby would find it harder, was the Team Rocket trying to catch him or just scaring him?

Though the Screech attack was an unexpected setback Shocker had still endured the incoming Thunder Shock beautifully only taking a small amount of damage from the attack. Marchbaby was quite relieved that he used the Hyper Potion when he did as Shocker would have never lasted from any other attack otherwise and with the amount of health it still had left Shocker could easily endure numerous Thunder Shocks before healing may be needed again. " Great work Shocker, even though we were not expecting such a strong opponent you have held your ground very well. You are doing great so far."

As wonderful as things had gone so far however this battle was not even close to being over and things could still get back if he did not keep his mind focused on the battle. As much as he wanted to daydream about finally reaching Ecruteak City that could wait until after he had dealt with this Team Rocket Captain. Marchbaby did not have to think very long or hard about his next move as Tri Attack was still by far the best move in this situation and it could also be useful by doing more than just damage if luck was on his side.

" Shocker I don't thin we should change our strategy yet as it still seems to be working quite well, Tri Attack sure is a very useful move in this situation and I see no reason to try pressing our luck with anything else at least until that Electrode is at very low health first." Before Marchbaby has even finished speaking the trio of magnets already started to build up another elemental beam in front of it ready to strike at his command. The dedication the Magneton showed was quite remarkable to behold and it waited for the order to fire again.

" It appears you are ready to go again Shocker, that is quite good to see as I don't think our opponent is going to stand around all day and I certainly want to wrap this up as soon as I can. Use Tri Attack again on that Electrode and give it everything you've got!" As soon as the order was given Shocker fired off the elemental beams hoping for a repeat of the first round. Marchbaby stood by patiently hoping that his current strategy would continue to pay dividends as he wasn't sure what else to do if Tri Attack stopped being as useful as it was.

The blue haired young man dressed down in the classic black suit with a large red “R” emblem on his shirt studied his opponents carefully. The Captain could feel his confidence gaining momentum, but he knew that he needed to temper it and plan his next moves carefully so that he could ensure victory against Marchbaby and his levitating bundle of magnets. What a waste of time this kid has caused me! The young lad looked as though he couldn’t have been any older than nineteen – twenty at best. Why was it that teenagers and young adults always thought that they could make a difference, anyways?

Hah! “You won’t stop my mission, kid.” The Rocket Captain jeered as he narrowed his dark hued eyes upon dark-blue haired lad and his metallic bundle of electric and steel magnets. They might have been useful if they only took a step in the right direction and joined forces with team Rocket. However, this kid’s spunk both made the Captain consider and reject the notion of handing Marchbaby a private invitation. “You’d be better off fighting for the right side. You’re on the losing side as it is now, kid.” He mocked. Then, the bright blue haired Rocket member snapped his gloved fingers, which made a very soft snap due in part to the fabric buffer between the two pieces of skin, and pointed a long index finger at the overly large living red-and-white Pokeball.

The Electrode rolled about on the ground, one moment tossing the red portion of its body up towards the skies before rolling back down on its properly to focus on its opponent. “Now, Electrode! Show them what real power is like. Use your Spark attack, and don’t hold back – ya got that?!” The Captain supposed that if things turned sour too quickly, he could always pull out his trump card and use Electrode’s finest move yet. But it was better to hold off on that unless it proved absolutely necessary.

The red-and-white spherical Pokemon began to spark. Large bolts of electricity danced across its smooth surface, electrifying the Electrode in a ball of pure electricity. It rolled across the open terrain at a blazing speed, and with one good bounce that it used from a jagged piece of upturned root, it would send itself flying at the Magneton and knocking directly into the metallic grey dual electric and steel type. Both Pokemon would fall to the ground, though the Magneton would easily raise up with its prepared Tri Attack and send the powerful rainbow of energy to hit the Electrode in a spiraling fashion.

The Electrode squealed out in a high pitched and strange metallic sound as the Tri Attack knocked into it, hitting the Pokemon directly in the face. A thick sheet of ice formed around the Electrode, freezing the Pokemon in place. The Rocket Captain clenched his fists at his side as he watched his Pokemon become nothing more than a large block of ice and gritted his teeth. NOW, this lad was starting to REALLY get under his nerves! He was positive that he would do everything in his power to ensure that Marchbaby paid for his erroneous misdeeds.

As Marchbaby watched in amazement at the sight of Tri Attack encasing Electrode in a block of ice he could hardly believe his eyes. He knew of Tri Attack having a small chance of causing a frozen condition but he never expected his luck would pay off in such a great way. " Excellent work SHocker, that Tri Attack is far more useful than I could have ever hoped for." He said as Shocker remained fixated on it's target not wanting to allow any chance of Electrode getting another chance to strike.

As great as Marchbaby felt at the moment the confident rocket captain was not someone he really wanted to deal with. It was clear that he was still quite confident despite not being as tough as Marchbaby first thought and he had to knock the man down a peg or two. " That is pretty funny coming from you, Even when you caught me off me A game with my current team you are still losing this battle. I can hardly believe my brother wants anything to do with a bunch of heartless degenerates such as yourself." As he turned his attention back to the battle the frozen Electrode gave him no doubt that his strategy was working and that he had to stick with it.

Marchbaby did not know if the rocket captain had any other Pokemon but so long as Shocker could keep enduring hits and kept dishing out such powerful attacks that he could still find a way to win this battle and put a stop to whatever plans Team Rocket had. Not to mention this battle was great practice for whenever he finally had a chance to face his brother when the time came. Until that day came though any other Team Rocket members he could take down would be a wonderful consultation prize.

" Alright Shocker I think we have waited long enough and I don;t want that Electrode to thaw out and be able to attack again. Use Tri Attack again and try your best to bring that speedy electric type to a screeching halt." Shocker than prepared yet another elemental beam and got ready to fire. It could not ask for such an easy target and if things went according to plan such an easy knockout blow than the one before it. Shocker just hoped the ice would last long even to prevent Electrode from being able to strike yet again as another strike would put Shocker in a rather odd spot.

The rocket member was grinding his teeth. Fists clenched tightly as he tried to think his way out of this predicament. His anger toward the dragon tamer was making that difficult though, as the only thoughts running through his mind was how much he wanted to take the man down. The captain had already let his last pokémon fly off with a warning to his underlings so his electrode was all he had to shove off this interloper; not that the golbat would have had much of a chance versus Shocker.

"Brother huh?" he repeated, picking up on that particular piece of information March provided. He glared harder at the young man opposing him. There was definitely something vaguely familiar about the man's visage but... "Nope, can't place that ugly mug," the criminal attempted to gain a bit of face back despite his clearly losing position. "But he must have better sense than you kid, cause even if you beat me..." he paused half a second to put a thumb to his chest, "You're gunna have the whole of Team Rocket against you from this point on. And we don't play nice," he threatened. Grasping at anything that even had the slightest chance of putting him back on top. Sadly March didn't scare easy, and the captain was still clearly flustered so he didn't seem all that intimidating.

"Like this!" He stomped a foot on the ground and yelled, "Electrode! Self-destruct!" The action would probably be more impressive if anything happened immediately afterward. The inverted pokéball looking pokémon stood, still frozen, though a very faint fizzle could be heard melting the ice if the area was dead silent. But there was nothing to stop Shocker from ending this all with one final Tri Attack. The brilliant attack swept over the frozen electrode, breaking the grip the ice had to the ground and sending the block rolling back a few turns closer the Team Rocket Captain. The man growled, whipping a hand out to recall the electrode.

Before he could do so however that tiny sizzle from earlier picked up. The last tri attack had blown away little chunks of the ice and melted other sections, freeing the basically unconscious ball pokémon enough that all the energy it had been trying to expel for its last order was able to begin escaping.
"Oh bolli-" was all he managed to get out, realizing what was about to happen. The electrode exploded.

A thick plume of smoke filled the air between March and the Team Rocket Captain, as did a loud ringing. It was a minute or so before things would settle enough and the only thing left in the area with March would be some lightly scorched bills scattered roughly where the captain had once stood.

As the Electrode Marchbaby started to cough and cover his eyes as the thick smoke quickly surrounded him. By the time he was able to breathe and see again he was disappointed to find that the Rocket Captain had gotten away during the blast but he had manged to score a bit of cash. " A shame we could not bring him in but after that beating I am sure we will be on their radar now, next time we run into Kevin we need to let him know about this mess." As he thought about what to do next Marchbaby saw a nearby tree with a few Sitrus Berries growing on it and picked them.

He then walked over to Shocker and fed the steel type so it could restore it's energy. With Shocker back to full health and a large full moon starting to rise above the horizon Marchbaby knew things might get even more dangerous not having any idea what other hoodlums might hang out on the route at night.

After walking for a while a small sign up ahead came into his view. Route 36 straight ahead. the sign read and Marchbaby remembered that it was the last stop before reaching Ecruteak. Taking a moment to check on his Pokemon Marchbaby had a feeling this trip towards Ecruteak was just getting started as the ominous moon provided the only light for a forseeable distance. That and a dust storm rolling in meant things were not going to get any easier as he decided to give his team a pep talk before moving on.

" You guys have done great so far but be on the lookout from here on out, this dust storm is going to make seeing anything a very hard task. Vör can use her Aura powers but otherwise we are pretty much going in blind. Vör try and keep a lookout for anyone or anything approaching. Hopefully trouble doesn't find us until after we reach Ecruteak." Vör nodded as the group inched their way down the route. Just as things were looking up Vör could sense something in the distance and pointed straight ahead and spoke to alert Marchbaby. " Someone is coming up ahead, they are heading pretty quickly as well be ready."
