With a rarer bug now in tow and a decent competitive chance for ranking high among the participants time was quickly approaching the end of the contest. But there was still some left to find a couple more bugs. Probably. Especially if they all kept meandering onto the path. In a likewise fashion soon another bug pokémon would be spotted, if barely. The tiny yellow speck would have been missed if not for a sudden spat within the grasses drawing attention to it. What sounded like a weedle from within the underbrush spat furiously and the minuscule fly very quickly exited into Martin's vicinity.

Kiwi, lvl 20: Peck, Growl, Flame Charge, Quick Attack

Martin couldn't contain a smirk when the second Sports Ball succeeded. The Illumise running off wasn't any great loss, and Martin picked up the new capture with a firmer sense of satisfaction. He felt alright with the idea of bringing the Venipede home, despite it being a bug. If he had gathered anything from today, it was that most bugs could be useful in a garden as long as you knew how to work with them. "That was easy," he commented, and continued studying the trees, mainly to determine their species.

Kiwi wasn't left any room to evolve, and he felt close to bursting. The arrival of yet another bug, this one very small, only caused a raised brow from Martin and a dismissal shrug. "I already got a Cutiefly, Kiwi. You can do with it what you want." He said, which made Kiwi almost explode with flames in his excitement to finally do something again. He barely remembered to announce his challenge to the creature before bursting forward.

As the first charge came Cutiefly barely had the chance to squeak before it was enshrouded with flames. The poor little thing squealed, tears welling in its eyes as it poked Kiwi's side and tried to suck out some energy not unlike a mosquito. It wasn't very effective, and soon the tiny fly pokémon would find itself hurdling through the air after a second bashing from Kiwi.

Kiwi grew to LV 21, gained +1 Happiness (+5), and evolved!

As the yellow speck flew through the air it nearly collided with a moth. The dustox gasped at the sudden halt, turning to watch the small bug type in a mix of uncontrolled rolling and a desperate flee. A bit slowly, the evolved pokémon turned itself around to stare down at the culprits; it watched as the bird evolved after the encounter before descending and issuing a challenge.

Martin paid little attention to Kiwi after the initial attack on the Cutiefly. He was frowning at the tree and the conundrum it had presented him with. Occasionally he inspected his book for help. He only looked away from his study, when Kiwi made a different sound than he used to. Instead of his small voice twittering, it came out more of a squawking, almost like it was breaking. Martin blinked at the bird a couple of times, and then shrugged noncommittal. He noted down the most interesting points of the tree while saying: "I'm nearly done here, and if I'm not mistaken we'll soon be called back to the entrance. Don't let anyone disturb me until then." He had seen the Dustox out the corner of his eye, but he had no doubt Kiwi was now strong enough to handle something like that easily.

Kiwi took a moment to inspect his more colourful wings and larger body. He made a couple of testing hops and flapped his wings. Satisfied with the feeling he accepted Dustox' challenge with a bow and felt another kind of rush than usual, when he called on his fire. It licked around his body with ease, and didn't feel difficult to handle at all. He set in motion.

The dustox would quickly regret its decision to defend the cutiefly. Kiwi was much faster, especially so after the first flame charge. The psychic bug made a desperate attempt to confuse the bird but to no avail. Instead it just managed middling damage and a renewed focus for a second fiery charge. Dustox retreated, barely managing to flap itself away after Kiwi was done with it.

Kiwi grew to LV 23 and gained +1 Happiness! (+6)
