 Kiwi, lvl 12: Peck, Growl, Flame Charge, Quick Attack Martin looked around in the National Park with half feinted interest. He wasn't a bug enthusiast by a long shot. A good part of the species could be considered pests for gardeners, and it wasn't like there were that many half grass types amongst them either. Martin had more or less signed up for the contest on a whim, and it was the first time he got to see the famous park. For a while yet it was also his only chance at seeing the Park with his own eyes, and he was curious how the gardeners of this place balanced the plethora of bug life with the plant life. Martin's first impression suggested that variety was key. He hadn't seen so many different flowers, plants and trees in one place before. Martin's interest got a little bit more real, and he took the first steps into the growing wildlife. On his left shoulder perched Kiwi. He had picked out the bird as companion for the day, because it still needed a good amount of training, and he figured the bugs wouldn't cause it too much of a problem. Martin had no intention of actually trying to win the contest. He had already gotten what he wanted by being here, so anything above that would just be an added bonus. It of course meant that he didn't care too much about hurting the bugs. Kiwi gave a small twitter, but Martin hushed him. He had already told the bird, that if it wanted to sit so close to his ear it should keep quiet. For the most part it did. They walked in silence, Kiwi looking curious on everything around, and Martin closely studying any plant he didn't immediately knew. He had brought both his own notebook and his book on plants, so he could look up names. Wordcount: 308 |

A set of surprised eyes and agitated teeth accompanied the fungus. Both of which angled themselves upward to hiss at the boy and his bird.

Kiwi, lvl 12: Peck, Growl, Flame Charge, Quick Attack The sight of the walking mushrooms made Martin pause. His mind pulled a blank for a minute until the bug underneath the mushrooms got visible, and then Martin grimaced in disgust. On the one hand the Paras was one of the two half grass types he could meet here, but on the other he clearly remembered Paras' description and somehow the thought of the mushrooms controlling the poor critter was almost nauseating. He sighed. "All right... Kiwi, get ready." The Fletchling dropped from his shoulder to land in front of Paras and twittered in challenge. "I'll try a capture first, Kiwi. Just be prepared." Used Poison Powder! Kiwi [ Big Pecks ]: PSN ... Tried a Sport Ball! Broke Out! The ball had no sooner latched itself closed when the paras lashed its claws and managed to escape near instantaneously. A lucky swipe, but the bug was determined. With a wiggle of its mushrooms a purple mist of poisonous spores swept into the air around Kiwi making him feel rather ill.

Kiwi, lvl 12: Peck, Growl, Flame Charge, Quick Attack Martin's mood soured somewhat, when the Sports Ball failed and Kiwi got poisoned. He had already been hesitant trying to capture the Paras, and really, he wasn't in the mood for second chances. "Alright, then!" he snapped. "Peck it up, Kiwi."Kiwi staggered with the unfamiliar feeling of being poisoned. He had still very few battles under his wings, and many sensations were new for him. Martin's voice helped him focus, despite the almost angry delivery, and Kiwi zeroed in on the bug with a single minded desire to get back at the Paras. Maybe he would even feel better, when the source of his discomfort had been chased away. Wordcount: 110

The agitated paras would soon regret its decision to be so aggressive as Kiwi wasted no time in returning the damage it had dealt ten-fold. The slick bird swooped in like a flash of light, delivering a duo of pecks that really got under those mushrooms and into the soft spots of its shell. Paras could only do a flailing scratch as it became overwhelmed. A sudden fear took over it and it fled for its life while it was still able to move.  Kiwi grew to LV 15 and gained +1 Happiness! (+2) He's trying to learn Agility; forget an old move?
After a few moments of reprieve from the Paras another bug would skip her way into their midst. A cheery blue-faced bug it was. She was just a ways down the path and hadn't noticed them yet, which allowed for any medicine applied after their first battle to settle before going into the next should they choose to pursue the blissfully unaware bug. Kiwi, lvl 12: Peck, Growl, Flame Charge, Quick Attack Martin praised the bird, when it made short work of the Paras. He felt a certain satisfaction in seeing the bug flee. Studying Kiwi as the Paras disappeared, Martin decided that it would be beneficial to provide some emergency healing. It looked a bit shaky, and it wouldn't do if the Fletchling collapsed after just a single fight. Martin rummaged through his medicine pocket and pulled out two small bottles after some calculation. "Come here, Kiwi. You don't look like you will last long this way." He ordered matter-of-fact. The Fletchling hopped over, and Martin administered the antidote before carefully supplying the potion too. "Done" he finished and put the empty bottles in his pocket for trash. "Now..." Martin began, but was interrupted by the sight of another Bug having showed up. Martin stilled for a moment, considering the thing. Kiwi, trying his best to follow Martin's lead, also stayed quiet and waited for what to do. Martin rose with a shrug. "Alright, Kiwi. Time to get more practise in. Start out with Flame Charge to build up your speed, and then go for a Peck."Wordcount: 189

Even though Kiwi had the element of surprise to start, the crackle of fire building up around the bird as he flew down the lane gave his position away. The startled bug instinctively went into attack mode. With a quick attack it slapped the incoming firebird, though it wasn't enough to turn Kiwi off course so she still got smacked. Swiftly following up with his charge, the fletchling used his momentum to whip back around and land a solid peck on the bug type. Her response was a struggling flail that made Kiwi feel a bit bad for her.

Kiwi, lvl 12: Peck, Growl, Flame Charge, Quick Attack Kiwi looked almost surprised when he didn't manage to sneak up on the Illumise in his 'surprise' attack. Martin could see it in a slight flinch of his body, when she hit him on seemingly reflex. "Fire isn't silent, Kiwi." He educated the bird. "Your job will be to scare intruders away, so you'll want to hit hard and fast, if the pure sight of you doesn't make them flee. Later, I'll teach you to differentiate between beneficial Pokemon and pests, but give that one another Peck." He ordered, and watched closely. The Illumise looked tougher than he had anticipated, and regretful as it was he wasn't entirely sure Kiwi could handle it yet. Martin fiddled with one of the Sports balls, preparing himself to interfere if it started to look bad. Wordcount: 132

Another exchange of blows ensued, Kiwi managing to keep the upperhand when it came to speed now but the illumise was proving to have a tough hide for sure. He pecked at the bug again, getting her in the back quite solidly, but in return she managed to smack him again as she continued to flail about trying to protect herself.

Kiwi, lvl 12: Peck, Growl, Flame Charge, Quick Attack Martin gnawed on the inside of his cheek as he watched the two Pokemon duke it out again. On the one hand Kiwi had potentiel to win the fight with his added speed, but on the other their time was limited, and Martin was slowly beginning to fear, they were running out. It was a dilemma. Martin looked at the time and grumbled to himself. He would have preferred giving Kiwi the chance to handle this entirely on his own but alas, Martin had to chance a ball just to speed things up. "Kiwi, stay prepared. I'm throwing." He ordered and aimed the readied Sports ball at the opponent. Wordcount: 109

Kiwi grew to LV 18 and gained +1 Happiness! (+3) He wants to learn Flail; forget an old move? What's this!?  Kiwi is trying to evolve! Allow it? If so, he would like to learn Ember; forget an old move? [Changes Ability to Flame Body]
All the random swatting had tired out the illumise's arms by the time the ball closed in. She had become the first capture for Martin in the contest, but there was still time for more searching. A few minutes later the gardener and his fiery bird would make their way further and discover a darker bug that preferred the protection of thicker foliage. It stared at them with interest, waiting to see what they'd do. BCC Encounter

Kiwi, lvl 18: Peck, Growl, Flame Charge, Quick Attack Martin drew a short breath of relief, unaware he had actually been holding it, and went to pick up the capture. He didn't find the Illumise interesting in the least, but it was better than nothing he supposed. He didn't say anything, just took a look at Kiwi's condition, and decided another potion might do. The insect had roughed him up good. When Kiwi's body started to glow faintly, Martin hurriedly bent down and knocked the bird on the head with a finger. "That will have to wait, Kiwi. I still got a whole park to see, and the clock is ticking." He said tonelessly. Kiwi shook himself and the light subsided. Martin gave him some potion instead and off they went. A few minutes later Martin found interest in some of the biggest trees the park had to offer. He didn't immediately spot the Venipede residing here, but Kiwi twittered and made him aware of it. Martin only considered for a second. This bug looked more interesting than the ones he had seen so far, and all the battling was taking time out of his schedule to study the plants... Martin pulled another Sports Ball. "I'm starting with a capture attempt this time, Kiwi. Just like the first time. Stay alert."Wordcount: 212

Instead it put all of its efforts into fighting it once it had closed up and plopped securely to the ground. It wavered back and forth for a little bit before cracking and releasing the hardy bug type. Venipede rustled lightly, turning to a more defensive position but nothing seemed to happen.

Kiwi, lvl 18: Peck, Growl, Flame Charge, Quick Attack Martin sighed, and Kiwi prepared for an impact that didn't come, when the ball broke open. Martin rubbed a second Sports ball in his hand, and then shrugged. "I'm giving that another try, Kiwi. Hold it a moment more." He decided, and made the throw. Kiwi puffed up his feathers, and threaded his feet restless against the ground. It felt so odd just standing still waiting around to get hit. Wordcount: 70
