Sentret had slowed down a bit, busily trying to contend with the seeds that had sprouted all around its nice short fur. It was almost a bit panicky. Especially after the purpose of the leech seed became apparent. But it was all futile in the end. The amount of time it would require to fully cleanse itself of this plague was too much whilst battling. Instead the wild pokémon simply raised its chubby fist in the air and squeaked its displeasure with the turn of events. But that's where it started losing its edge. With the scout pokémon's attention diverted to dealing with tiny seeds Midori could gain an upper hand. Wasting no time to act on her trainer's instructions the stout grass type charged forward as quick as her stubby legs could carry her. Sentret gasped, barely having had any time to properly shake its fist at the two it had to now quickly change actions. But not before the bulbasaur landed her attack. Hitting square on the natural target of the normaly type's tummy Midori managed to knock the sentret well away, forcing the air out of its lungs. Though, as the wild pokémon fell back it managed to rake its little claws across the nutritious bulb seated on Midori's back. Thankfully, due to the leech seed, the damage was quickly repaired. Energy was sapped from the opposing pokémon and sent back to rejuvenate the bulbasaur. This had turned around for the better, and Vitra was cheered by it. Midori was handling herself perfectly, the battle going well for her, and the uncertainty had faded. Midori sprang toward the Sentret again and crashed into the wild pokemon, knocking it off its paws and rolling it in the dirt. Claws raked across the bulb on her back in the moment of collision, and as she backed away Midori turned her head to eye the stinging wounds. They were minor, and while they hurt, it wasn't enough to stop her from continuing.
Kai was still pacing back and forth, taunting the wild Sentret with raspy calls, and a pat on her leg where Shiro was standing pulled Vitra's attention toward her own Sentret. Shiro blinked up at her and then pointed at his pokeball insistently. Vitra knelt down to him, sensing his discomfort at watching one of his own kind getting hurt, and gave him a pat on his head before recalling him. She felt bad that she hadn't thought about it before- but she could acknowledge his unhappiness and protect him from continuing to watch it. But she couldn't stop, not yet; this was part of the trial.
"Once more, Midori- tackle it!" This would be over soon enough, she hoped, and then she'd have her win.
"Bulbasaur," the grass-type replied, and once more hurled herself toward the wild Sentret.

The sentret seemed to be aware that things had turned around and not to its advantage. It slowly got back on its feet and glanced at the seeds that still clung to it, that could easily be its downfall. It grabbed on of them and pulled it off before it turned its attention back to its opponent who looked fit for fight. The sentret raised itself up on its tail to get a good look at the area, its ears twitched at Kai's shouting but didn't pay her any attention otherwise. It glanced backwards like it heard or thought of something or someone who was farther into the thicket of the trial, and then it grinned to Midori, it didn't look malecious. As Vitra gave her order and Midori began to move, the sentret fell down to all fours and then disappeared in a blur. Midori stopped as she couldn't keep up with the sentret's movement, and then she staggered as the normal type had slammed into her side, it was good she was so sturdy or else she would have fallen to the ground. The bulbasaur felt rather bruised though but she needed to get the sentret away before she could do anything about it. She rushed after it and headbutted it to the ground before she withdraw and gobbled up her berry, just as the leech seed took effect. Now Midori didn't felt as bad as before, actually felt almost fine and she was ready to continue! Sentret looked rather worried, it didn't feel fine at all. The Sentret was looking worn, Midori's attacks slowly whittling away at its health. It didn't seem keen on giving in any time soon, though- didn't seem like it was going to run away and save itself. And Vitra couldn't back down. She had to do this. She followed the wild Sentret's glance backward, confused at what it was looking at, face pinching in uncertainty as it grinned at her. Then it was charging, pausing Midori in her own attack and slamming heavily into the Bulbasaur.
Midori staggered, but collected herself quickly and launched her own attack, ramming back into the wild Sentret. The combination of the Oran berry and Leech seed seemed to increase her own health, the brief bout of wobbliness after the attack fading away. She stood strong again, none the worse for wear except for that nagging sting of pain on her bulb. "All right there, Midori?" Vitra called, smiling as the grass-type gave a nod.
"Bulbasaur, bul-bah." The wild Sentret was picking itself up again, looking rather worried, and though she couldn't deny the flicker of guilt at pushing it to this point, Vitra still called out for Midori to attack. "Tackle!"
"Ratta!" Kai cheered on the heels of her directive, skittering closer to make sure she didn't miss a moment of what she felt was sure to be the end of this Sentret.

The furry brown scout raised itself up onto its tail and spun around to survey its surroundings. The battle wasn’t looking the best, and the wild Pokemon needed to ensure that it had a quick getaway packed away should the need arise for it. The furry brown Pokemon with the long rabbit-like ears lowered itself back onto its hind legs as its ears stood tall and proud, listening to any and every sound. The two combatants shuffled through the tall weeds and undergrowth of the forest floor. As Midori staggered one way, the Sentret would dance another. Each warrior watched the other carefully, watching for the primed moment when they could launch their attack. Then Midori found her opening. The large green grass type moved in, running as fast at her stout legs could carry her towards her opponent. The wild Sentret raised its tail like a banner and cried out in a loud call similar when the wide head of the Bulbasaur’s skull came crashing smackdab into its arm. Midori was fast and almost built like a tank in comparison. The wild Pokemon limped backwards and chattered away loudly and angrily. In the next instance, the Sentret slashed out with its claws and ran them up along the Bulbasaur’s backside, digging into Midori’s grassy flesh. The seeds that were embedded into the Pokemon’s skin glowed in the next instance and drained the Pokemon’s health. Where they zapped health from the wild Sentret, they would bring health for the Bulbasaur, recharging Midori in the same moments where they drained the Sentret. The wild normal type turned and fled through the tall grasses, with only the blades dancing in all directions as it ran and fled from the battle. Midori's last tackle was a success, but she wasn't quick enough to avoid the slash of the Sentret's claws in retaliation for her attack. Still, it was effective enough; the Sentret whipped around and ran. Vitra darted to her Bulbasaur's side and grinned, one hand gently rubbing her forehead while she looked over the scratches. They didn't look too bad, which was a good thing. "I knew you could do it! You were so great! And you too, Kai," she started to add to the Rattata, but the rodent-type wasn't at her side like she'd expected.
Brown eyes spotted the bold pokemon staring after the Sentret, a clearly demanding gaze swiveling toward Vitra. Kai darted over, shoved at Vitra's shoes with her nose, and scurried off again, this time disappearing from sight. Alarm bolted through Vitra and she sprang to her feet, calling out after her Rattata. "Wait, Kai- come back!" She didn't know where the Sentret had gone or who might be lurking just out of sight; Kai didn't either and clearly hadn't thought that far ahead. "Come on, Midori, we have to find her!"
Grumbling at the stubborn rodent-type, Midori nevertheless followed, keeping up as Vitra hurried after Kai, just catching a flash of her purple tail waving above the grass and trying to keep it in sight. "Wait for us, Kai, we're coming. You shouldn't run off like that!"

The chase began, but for two pokémon instead of one. The rash rat made great effort to keep up with the wild sentret, but the scout pokémon had the home advantage. Unlike the area closest to New Bark these trails were much more rocky and jutting. It was very easy to lose sight of things let alone trying to do so when unfamiliar with all the short cuts. All manner of brush had given way to hard rock and thin layers of sand. The mountainous region north of the town of new beginnings loomed. No doubt they were being taken closer and closer to route 46; not a nice place for beginning trainers. But surely the nice old couple wouldn't have sent Vitra into too dangerous a place without warning... right? For a while the canyon-esque path went, snaking back and forth until finally it opened up again. Bordering on a crag the section of pathway split off into five other directions. A slight breeze came from each of them as the gentle winds circling about the cavernous behemoth further in the north, turning each into a whistling channel of faint noise. Sentret was surely down one of these paths, but which one was the trick. Should Vitra quiet herself and her team then take a moment to listen by one of the entrances calls of pokémon would reach her ears. They were distant, some easier to make out than others, but the breezes carried surprisingly clear sounds. Perhaps this could be her clue as to where her quarry had scampered off to. Kai tried, scampering along as fast as her feet would carry her, but she wasn't fast enough, or sure enough, of the terrain. The last glimpse she got of the Sentret's tail was it disappearing around a rock, and by the time she'd reached that rock, the wild pokemon had disappeared. She'd tried scaling the rock to get a better look around, but the breeze swayed the grass too much for her to be sure it was the wind and not the pokemon she was chasing, and she stamped a paw in frustration as she realized she'd lost the Sentret.
Vitra was still calling from behind, and the Rattata turned, calling out to help the girl find her; a moment later her trainer and the Bulbasaur were in sight, relief washing over Vitra's face. It was somewhat confusing to the Rattata- the human's first words hadn't been at all warm or friendly, but since the battle that had resulted in her catch, she'd seemed to have changed her mind about Kai. Of course she didn't let her pick on that Sentret, who she'd named Shiro, but she looked after Kai and seemed to care. She was a strange one and Kai was still trying to figure her out. But she was nice, and staying hadn't been the worst thing.
Vitra paused next to the rock Kai was standing on, glancing around; her gaze was drawn to the Rattata and Bulbasaur as they began to talk, wishing she could understand them. Before she could speak, though, Kai sprang off the rock, sniffed at the ground, and then with a glance at Vitra, she set off again. The girl followed Kai and the path, trusting the tenacious Rattata to know what she was doing.
It was a long walk, and the girl was disheartened when they came to the place where one path abruptly split into five. Now what? It would take forever to go through all of them, and it was possible she'd never find the Sentret. After a moment she headed toward the second one from the left, ears perking at the calls that bounced back to her. Midori, who'd followed, gave a decisive shake of her head and turned away; Vitra couldn't help a grin. "Okay then. Do you think Kai would know? She was wild."
"Bulba," Midori seemed to agree, and looked to where the rodent-type had stopped by the fourth path, ears pricked. She quivered all over and turned to Midori and Vitra, barely seemed to contain herself from darting off again. This time she waited for the two to join her, before they set off down the fourth path in search of the Sentret. The forest teemed with life, as animals growled and grunted in the distance. Tall grasses and thick green bushes moved and swayed, rustling with the creatures that zipped around through them. Birds cawed high above in the trees. Vitra and her team were quick and swift as they moved through the forest and its various obstacles. There were many sounds and calls, each traveling down a different path it seemed. However, the young preteen and her furry purple rat were hot on the trail – aided by the wisdom of her once-wild rodent. They set off down the long winding path towards a rockier terrain littered with bouts of thick blades of overgrown grass. A lone cave greeted the young trainer and her troupe, chiseled into the side of a large mountainous hill. Sounds erupted from inside of the tunnel. In a moment, a wild Pokemon with a long and slender body wriggled and squirmed out of the tunnel, guarding its prize that sat on a pedestal behind it. Whatever it could be seemed just out of view for the moment. The large cream-colored and dark brown striped ferret stared at Vitra intensely. Its ears twitched on its head, turning this way and that while it listened to the sounds all around team. The Furret’s eyes were narrowed on its intruders, though, and it growled in a low and deep warning. A clear warning an indication to Vitra and her team. How would the young preteen and her Pokemon react? It seemed clear that this Furret aimed to battle the young child. A wild Furret [Level 12] is challenging Vitra!Who will she send out to battle? Vitra kept on down the path, listening to the sounds of bird pokemon overhead and watching the grass around her, Midori and Kai sway. She was pretty sure it wasn’t just wind that rustled them at times, especially when the bulbasaur or rattata perked up, but nothing came in sight and she didn’t turn aside to investigate. She only stopped when the grass in front of her parted and a pokemon did appear, the brown-banded and cream body of a Furret: Sentret’s evolved form.
It growled, an unmistakable warning, and Vitra heeded it by backing up. Kai and Midori closed together, both growling back in defense of their trainer. Vitra blinked at the Furret, hesitating for a moment before straightening. If this Furret wanted to battle, then she would. “Midori- are you up for it?”
“Bulba,” the grass-type replied, and moved toward the Furret without apprehension. She growled again at the Furret, and when Vitra gave her first command, Midori obeyed instantly.
“Use Leech Seed, Midori!”

The wild brown-and-cream furred ferret’s eyes narrowed on its opponent and its fur bristled. They were intruders on its quaint and comfortable home, and quite possibly after the item that the wild Furret guarded cautiously. It lowered its head in an intense stare and slowly moved through the grass as it circled off with the Bulbasaur. The long and slinky Pokemon and the bumbling wide-framed green Pokemon with a green bulb on its back seemed to match each other for just a second in the grass. A moment as the Furret studied and tried to anticipate its opponents.A soft breeze played on the air – just enough to gently rustle the leaves in the trees and cause the grass to sway. The Furret would move in as soon as the moment presented itself. It was nimble and swift. The wild ferret’s feet kicked off and it raced towards Midori. As soon as it neared its opponent, the Furret would rear up on its hind legs to stand up tall. It curled itself, arching its spine with an exposed claw that dug at and raked against the Bulbasaur’s large green bulb. As that perfect angle, though, Midori would attack. With the Furret within range, the Bulbasaur shot her seeds out from the opening in her large bulb. They pelted the wild slinky Pokemon all too easily and buried inside of her fur. Small tendrils broke from their shells, tiny roots that wrapped around and dug into the Furret’s fur for a strong hold. The wild Pokemon bucked and kicked, rolling about as it tried to shake the seeds off of its back. The seeds, firmly planted and embedded into the Furret, would glow and drain the Pokemon of HP and send the healing energy back to Midori. Midori’s attack hit, but so did the Furret’s; as the wild pokemon scored her with its claws, Midori fired the seeds. They rooted in the Furret's thick pelt, drawing its health down and restoring it to Midori. The two broke apart, glaring at each other. Vitra called out a follow-up attack, but Midori shuffled her front legs a bit, looking back at her. "Bulba-bulbasaur," the grass-type called, and uncoiled the wines that had been tucked away inside the bulb, waving them. It took a moment for Vitra to grasp what she was being told, and then she jumped- literally and metaphorically- at the idea. "Oh, do you... you do! Okay, yes, do that. Um, um- Use Vine Whip, Midori!" She was brimming with enthusiasm at the thought, the knowledge that Midori was leveling up, and learning new moves, all under her guidance. Sure, Vitra was still learning too, but she couldn't be doing too badly if she was actually winning fights and raising her pokemon, right? Kai paced around Vitra's feet, grumbling at being left back again. She could fight as well as that Bulbasaur could, even if she wasn't as strong, but Vitra had hardly given her a glance before sending out Midori. The while brown-and-creamed furred ferret moved with speed as it zipped through the tall grasses. It was but a blur in the open land, shrouded by the tall wild green grass and the rocks that jutted out of the ground in various areas. It would leap off a large rock, its slinky body wiggling this way and that, as it launched itself in a speedy assault against the Bulbasaur. The Furret bombarded Midori with its full body, slamming up against the green frog-like Pokemon’s side, and causing them both to topple over. The Bulbasaur would release its vines that began to whip and assault the long slinky Pokemon. The Furret backed up and seemed to curl to make itself appear smaller for an instance, as the vines assaulted it at every angle. Owch! Then the seeds that were embedded into its fur would glow again, their roots digging in deep under the Furret’s skin and draining its health more. The Furret was quick- faster and more nimble than Midori was on its little legs. And strong; Vitra winced as the two collided at force and both toppled, Midori's legs waving in the air as she struggled to get back upright. She paused in those efforts long enough to strike back. Even upside down she wasn't hampered or unable to attack, and her aim was true. The Furret retreated, and as Vitra started forward to help Midori back on her feet, the Bulbasaur used those vines to help herself, levering herself right side up again.
"Okay, Midori?" Vitra called, and when the grass-type nodded, she forced herself to pull in a breath and relax. She didn't like watching either of the two get hurt, but- well, this was the only real way to level up, and if she was ever going to keep going then she'd have to get used to it. Midori seemed to be handling the attacks well enough, and doling out her own with ease. Vitra would trust her to know her limits; Midori wasn't the rash sort, to ignore her well-being to rush to the attack. She'd let Vitra know if she needed anything.
"Use Vine Whip again, Midori!" Vitra called out. "You're doing great, just keep it up a while longer!" Egg word count: 216
Could I get a break down of the damage of Midori's attack? How much Vine Whip does against how much health Leech Seed drains from the Furret? Thanks!

The ease of the fight was beginning to make the totem pokémon a bit overconfident. All it needed to do was remain fast, and Midori was undoubtedly sluggish in comparison. The furret wriggled its nose and huffed, slinking down into the grasses it zipped off once again. While the two were finishing up talking Furret was extending its claws. The totem was hard to keep track of until it was too late. Despite being at the ready with her vines the seed pokémon wasn't able to deter yet another attack. This one was slower than the last but still the claws raking across her side cut deep into her stamina. She retaliated as quick as she could, lashing out at the furret's backside as it bounded away again, but if it wasn't for the leech seed continuing to bring the combatant's vitality closer together Midori would definitely be on her last leg right now. She still might be. She wasn't sure if she could take even just one more even with the safety net.
