The wurmple waited, eagerly watching the energetic rodent with the expectation he would initiate. It was getting a little antsy waiting for something to happen. When the trainer called out to the magenta bug it wriggled its butt spikes and squeaked impatiently, buckling down and eying the bird that came to face it shortly afterward. It didn't want to waste any more time, coiling up a good bit of sticky string to send forth and entangle the young starling. However, by the time the wild pokémon sent its attack after its opponent the rattata intercepted. Wurmple was a little confused at first, but didn't ultimately care in the end. It was just interested in a battle. Anyone would do as its versus. Kai halted in front of the bug-type, shifting side to side as she waited for the first move. When it came she could only hold her ground, eyes squeezing shut as the sticky web settled over her. When it stopped she lurched free of it, clawing the strands from her fur. "Tackle, Kai!" she heard Vitra call just as she got the last of it off, and she wasted no time in hurling herself toward the Wurmple. She wasn't going to go easy on this one- it wasn't in her nature.
Vitra was more content to stand back and let Kai do her thing, wondering if she'd really have to knock the Wurmple out like she had to with the Spearow she'd just caught. It was- possibly not weaker, but not as sturdy, either. It would be more ideal to wear her down to low health and then making an attempt to catch, hoping the bug-type wouldn't be able to break free of the pokeball if it was weak enough. She'd see as the battle unfolded, she supposed, what outcome would be the one she resorted to. Either way, she had every intention of catching this Wurmple by the end.

Wurmple may not have been the toughest of bug types but even it was smart enough to know that it's String Shot would slow Kai down enough to out speed the rat Pokemon. Wasting no time with it's speed advantage Wurmple slowly crawled towards Kai before delivering the oddest looking tackle imaginable. The low speed of the impact allowed Kai to endure the hit rather well the stick webs on her paws were not doing her any favors. Even so she was able to slowly walk towards the Wurmple as it tried to crawl away and deliver a rather decent Tackle of her own. Neither Pokemon had gained much of an edge to this point and the battle could still go either way. Busy with removing the strands from her fur, Kai hadn't noticed the Wurmple's approach until its body smacked into hers, and she flashed a glare after it as it retreated again. Some of her fur was uncomfortably clumped together, the webs clinging to her paws as she returned the attack with one of her own. Her Tackle landed true, but it wasn't as gratifying as usual; her feet and fur were still wrapped in sticky web and she couldn't shake it free, much to her annoyance; she flailed one paw about furiously, glaring at the pale web gumming up her toes.
"Okay there, Kai?" Vitra called, trying to stifle her amusement at the obvious distaste the Rattata was showing toward the String Shot the Wurmple had used, the remnants clearly bothering her. Kai blinked back for a moment before raking her paw across the ground to try to dislodge the web, her teeth grinding loudly in irritation; it took a minute before she seemed to hear the following command. "Use Quick Attack!" She blinked, twitched an ear back at the young trainer, and then set off, trying her best to ignore the lingering traces of web clinging to her paws.

The bug pokémon wriggled with satisfaction at the effect of its strategy. Normally it was walked all over by the purple rats around here, but this new idea of not just tackling may do just the trick. So pleased with itself Wurmple didn't pick up right away that Kai, too, had something to overcome any shortcomings; at least when it came to speed. Despite the bundle of web throwing off the careful balance of his steps, the rattata was still able to rush into a his well practiced move and slam into the wild pokémon with great speed. Wurmple squeaked in surprise, grumbling shortly afterward when it realized what had just happened. It seemed confused. Any planning it had been mulling over was wiped from its mind and it retaliated with an instinctual tackle back. Maybe it was best to call Kai back for now. Vitra was certain she could have finished the fight on her own, but she still wanted to give Shiro a chance to gain something from this fight too. "Shiro," she called to the Sentret, who turned his head to blink at her, body perking as if sensing her intent without saying it aloud. "Take over for Kai, okay? Come back, Kai," she added, lifting her voice to recall the Rattata. Kai looked back at her, glowered again at the Wurmple, and then glared at Shiro as the Sentret paused at her side, none too happy about having to give way to him.
"Come on, Kai," Vitra called again, and with a last grumble the headstrong pokemon padded back to the rest of the team. "Give it a Scratch, Shiro!" the young trainer directed, and the Sentret darted forward to do so, face creased in determination as he neared the Wurmple. One more attack should be enough, Vitra thought, as she knelt down to peel the web from Kai's paws and fur, sticking them instead to a leaf which she tossed to the ground. Some bird-type might be able to use it for a nest; all she wanted was to ease the Rattata's discomfort. With that taken care of, Vitra returned her attention to the battle, watching the Wurmple's state to see if a capture would be the next step- or if one more attack might be necessary.

Wurmple cheered. The rattata being recalled made it feel like it had been victorious. A boost of confidence overcame it, causing the little worm to mock the proud rodent as Kai was made to retreat off of the field to go stand by her trainer. It certainly didn't make Tatakai's and Shiro's switch any easier. While the two were busy eying each other, Kai especially passing a stink eye to the young sentret, the wurmple took the opportunity to close in and engage with Shiro before he was even ready to fight. The bug type, finding its slow crawl just too slow, decided to try something new. It curled up into a wheel and pushed itself into the scout pokémon just as he had been directed to attack. It was a surprise to say the least. Shiro was pushed over, the wurmple uncurling promptly beside him. In a light daze after the initial tackle the magenta worm still had some advantage before the sentret would act and it was going to take it. A high pitched battle cry like that of a teenager losing their voice through puberty cut into the air as the wurmple plunged its poisonous barb into Shiro's side. The prick was barely painful and Shiro was able to roll away before it did anything too damaging. Now it was his turn. Claws extended and a dark look of vengeance for the sudden onslaught before he was properly ready, Shiro charged for the bug pokémon. Wurmple, still blinded by a boisterous feeling of overconfidence, barely made to dodge. But that false sense of inability to be defeated would prove unfounded as the scout's own shining pokers dug a long scratch right across the wild one's body. Wurmple recoiled. It curled up and rolled awkwardly a few feet away before losing balance. Tears welled in its eyes at the stinging blow. That was its job! It was supposed to do the stinging. The wild pokémon turned its watery orbs onto Shiro with just a hint of fright. Shiro should have been paying more attention, but he'd been distracted by the Rattata's glare; he could hear her rasping laughter as the Wurmple caught him off guard and unleashed its two attacks against him. Hurt and humiliated, he lashed out in response, claws digging into the soft body of the bug-type, beady eyes snapping back to it as he pushed himself upright again. It rolled away, collapsing to its side as it looked back at him with tear-filled eyes, and guilt pricked him as sharply as the Wurmple's stinger had.
He glanced back at Vitra approached, squatting down next to Shiro and resting a hand on his head. He settled on his bottom, blinking down at the Wurmple and murmuring an apology- he had let his anger get the better of him for a moment and had reacted on impulse. He noticed the pokeball in Vitra's hands as she activated it. "I'm sorry we hurt you," she apologized, "But I can help you. If you come with us, I can get you to a place that will make you feel better. I think you'd make a great member of our team too. What do you think?"
She held the pokeball for a moment longer and then tossed it, hoping that the Wurmple would agree to it. Having another pokemon could only help them in the future, and this new addition was a new type that would offer strength in a new area. Vitra hoped for a capture, holding her breath as she tossed the capsule toward the Wurmple and waiting for the outcome.

This hadn't went as the bug had expected, the day had been so boring and it had wanted some action, it had gotten more than enough and it hadn't known that something could hurt as much as Shiro's shard claws! The wurmple's big watery eyes blinked in surprise when Vitra stepped forward and sat beside her sentret, what was this? It slowly got to its stubby feet and didn't believe what it heard, could it really be so lucky that this human wanted to bring it along and give it an exciting life instead of the dull eating-and-sleeping one it had had until now? It was almost too good to be true. Even as the pokeball came flying and it let itself get hit by it, it didn't really dare believe it, and it struggled quite a bit due to it, making the pokeball shake for some time, before it finally closed shut. Shiro finished the battle and grows 3 levels, making him [lvl 9]! He learns Quick Attack! Tatakai did a lot of the fighting and grows 1 level to [lvl 7]! She can learn Focus Energy if she forgets another move, should she do that? Kuro watched closely and grows 1 level to [lvl 2]! Congratulations you caught the wurmple! The Wurmple didn't fight; it seemed surprised at Vitra's offer, blinking up at her. Vitra tossed the pokeball and it held still, though it seemed to struggle against the capture for a moment, but it wasn't strong enough to resist in the end. Vitra picked up the capsule and held it before looking over the rest of her team. Now was as good a time as any, she supposed, to try to take another step along her journey, and hope for the best. She had a good team behind her, surely she could manage it. She would just have to prepare herself and think about the best way to go about it- but she felt confident enough in her ability.
