Specters and Robots and Weasels Oh my! (Gym Battle)(F)

As Marchbaby approached the doors to the Ecruteak Gym he could feel something watching him from the shadows. He knew Morty was a ghost type trainer and figured one of them must be watching him approach but he had no idea what to expect besides the type of Pokemon he would be facing. " I cannot say I have much experience with ghost type Pokemon besides Atropos but I do know despite them taking advantage of shadows and being weak to both their own type and Dark types so Atropos and Kamikaze are going to be my most useful Pokemon here." He said as the doors to the gym flung open revealing a pitch black battlefield.

An eerie mist added to the creepy setting the gym had but before Marchbaby could say anything two small podiums with fires burning on top lit up a small pathway leading to the back of the gym with another set of fire topped pillars. " I thought Bugsy's gym was creepy but this is something out of a horror movie. Atropos must feel right at home here." As soon as he spoke the specter popped out of her Pokeball and immediately fell in love with the decor. All it was missing was a graveyard and it would be perfect for her.

" This Morty guy has my respect, he sure knows how to properly decorate a place that is for sure. I just hope the Pokemon he uses are as respectable as the rest of this gym." Trying his best to ignore the troublesome spirit he walked towards the lit up area at the back of the gym and called out hoping the gym leader would be there. After the long trip he took to get here the gym leader being out would be a terrible stroke of luck. " Hello my name is Marchbaby and I have come to challenge this gym. I hear Morty is the gym leader here is he in?"

He then waited for a response as Atropos watched in glee as the mist started to swirl around her. She could not get enough of the creepy vibes the gym had and could hardly wait to prove herself as a worthy ghost type. Kamikaze on the other hand did not care for most of the decor minus the dark lighting. Such a dark gym would make using her Feint Attack all the more effective and with any luck might be able to defeat any pesky ghost when combined with her Life Orb that gave a faint source of light when she was not holding it against her chest.

It seemed just as the doors closed behind that the pitch black that met Marchbaby had triggered a thunderstorm outside. Now with a sudden downpour pattering against the building and a rumbling shaking the walls it was a truly atmospheric stroll through the ghastly mists of the gym. The floors creaked beneath his weight at any misstep off the intended path. Wood crackling to what could very well have been an empty pit beneath them with how hollow the echo sounded.

Thankfully, as the dragontamer got closer to the fires marking his destination a figure could be seen. Sitting in a chair with book in hand the gym leader waited one leg crossed over the other. The cover was old. Naught but a single color with faded emboss impressed into some design etching the border. Even the title had been worn away so only flecks of gold remained against the midnight buckram.

At March's voice breaking into the otherwise quiet of the room Morty thumbed the ribbon to mark his page and closed the book. His gaze rose just before he did, passing the man a confident smile.
"He is, and that he is me." His smile curled into a satisfied grin. "Good to meet you." The gym leader extended a hand for a shake before proceeding.

"I was getting a bit bored, and with this storm rolling in was worried there wouldn't be anyone today," he carried on, resuming a stiff posture before he made to creating a bit of distance between them. "Gotta keep sharp. Hope you brought your A-Game!" As he concluded he spun around and got a good look at his challenger and the pokémon hovering about. He smiled fondly toward Atropos, but otherwise didn't seem to be reaching for any sort of pokéballs to begin the match.

Morty wasn't without pokémon though. As the shuppet gleefully watched the mists manipulate themselves eventually she would pick up on a cackling that had slowly been rising in volume. It, too, was cheerful albeit with a hint of mischief. The mists danced more and more furiously, so much so a breeze had begun pulling toward the active haze. Soon a huge pair of eyes would open wide, hovering in the nothingness and staring intently at March and his team. A mouth appeared shortly after, open slightly with two fangs and a long tongue slipping out to make a face at the group.

It disappeared suddenly. The mists halting and a stagnant feel coming to the area near immediately.
"There you are Gastly," Morty spoke simply, sticking a hand into his pocket as his first pokémon reappeared by him. "You're up first."

As Morty extended his hand Marchbaby did the same as he was rather relieved his trip was not in vein. " It is nice to meet you are well. I am looking forward to a good match. A storm such as this is not enough to keep a dragon tamer away from growing stronger especially one from Blackthorn such as myself. I certainly brought my best for this battle and I do hope they prove impressive." He said as he waited to see what Morty would send out first only for the Gym Leader to not use a Pokeball at all. It was only when the surrounding mist formed a face that he realized Morty already had his Pokemon out and ready for a battle.

" I thought I sensed something watching me, Gastly sure are fantastic at sneaking around and ambushing unsuspecting trainers. I have to give you credit for training one so well as a lesser trained one might have made the mistake of attacking too early." Atropos was impressed as well as the Gastly seemed far smarter than the other ghost types she he encountered so far. Even so she was not about to let a lowly Gastly beat her in a battle and as Marchbaby promised her a chance to test her strength she was not going to let anything else battle this Gastly.

" This Gastly is mine, I have waited far too long to test my strength. I may not have evolved like I had planned to do before this battle but I know I am ready regardless." Atropos said as she took her place on the battlefield. The dark setting and shadows being formed by the flames served as a great asset towards her plans as she started to disappear into the ground and become one with the shadows. Shadow Sneak was not her most powerful attack but it did make her far faster than usual. Knowing she could not normally out speed a Gastly it was her only choice to avoid any of it's tricks.

" You might be one with the shadows as well but I wonder, just how well acquainted with the shadows are you? I have trained using them for some time now so I guess we are about to find out." She said as her disembodied voice echoed throughout the gym. The thunder outside did little to lower the eerie feeling filling the gym as the two ghosts types were about to make their move. Marchbaby just hoped Atropos was not biting off more than she could chew. " I swear she is crazy but I hope her craziness does not cause her too much harm here." He groaned waiting for the results.

The storm roared outside like a hidden monster in the skies. Lightning jolted, speaking to the storms that Morty had referenced as their bright light briefly lit up the window sills on the building. The pitter patter of raindrops rolled across the rooftop of the GYM like a dull wail, broken up only by the cackling sounds of thunder roaring from the dark clouds outside. Luckily Marchbaby and Morty were safely tucked inside, but the sounds of the storm seemed to create an eerie musical melody to the shadowy battlefield. The pillars of fire seemed to smoke and billow around the almost pitch-black field, creating thick shadows that obscured almost everything. “I see you’ve brought your own ghost type as well. They’re like a double-edged sword against their own!” Morty raised a hand to the side of his face in a bit of a showy display. “I’ve never quite met a Shuppet like yours before. Where did you find it?”

Then Morty nodded towards his companion, the gaseous ball of shadows and toxins, who cried out with delightfully. It dissipated into the shadows, then came back into view, and seemed to delight in playing with the shadows. “Gastly and I have trained long and hard to be quite a formidable duo.” Morty commented with an approving nod to Marchbaby’s statement. Atropos disappeared, melting into the shadows itself as her voice bounced around the gym with delight. Gastly faded out of view as well, with only its voice wailing around the GYM. “I was forged by the darkness and shadows, my dear!” The toxic sentient ghostly gas called out as it floated around in an invisible, high-speed chase. Atropos would be much quicker, and appeared behind Gastly with long shadow arms that ripped through and slapped the Gastly about ruthlessly. Gastly cried and fainted, disappearing altogether through the shadows.

A strange purple gaseous form appeared next to Morty through the shadows. It had wide, scary eyes and a large, creepy smile. Two large pointed ears shaped themselves on it’s large, head-like body, and two arms with three sharp claws floated just in front of its gaseous body. “Ah, Haunter. You’ve come to take Gastly place!” The strange ghost type gas laughed, with a loud and eerie cry. “I heard we had a strong opponent, and I had to see for myself. I see we have more shadow friends to play with!” The strange ghost Pokemon laughed and cackled in delight.

Gym Leader Morty's Haunter [Lvl 30] appeared out of nowhere?!

Marchbaby was well aware of the risk of using a ghost type against it's own type but the risk was well worth it to start off the battle. Even so Morty's question caught him off guard as he doubted anyone would believe the tale of how he encountered Atropos. " Yes it sure is a risky strategy but I don't mind taking a risk if the potential payout is worth it. As for how I encountered her I doubt you will believe the tale but I guess no harm can come from telling you." He said as he coughed to clear his throat knowing the tale would be rather long.

" Atropos here decided to place a curse on me one night, the curse trapped me in the body of a Salamence and I had to fight through a haunted mansion collecting two keys to be able to face her. Me and my Wartortle Shellshocker finally defeated her after a tough battle and I captured her afterwards." He said believing Morty must think he was nuts as he doubted anyone would think a Shuppet could cause so much craziness. Even so if anyone would believe him it would be a ghost type specialist such as Morty.

As the first round of the battle ended and Atropos defeated the Gastly in a single blow a disembodied voice not familiar with him left him a bit shaken as the creepy atmosphere of the gym started to get to him. Before Marchbaby could say a word Kamikaze jumped in front of Atropos believing the specter had done enough as she wanted a chance to battle Morty as well. As much as Atropos wanted to battle more she did not dare get in the way of the demonic weasel knowing well enough that the Weavile would make her pay dearly if she tried to reclaim her spot

" Well Atropos as well as you battled it looks like Kamikaze will be handling things for now. Stay in backup just in case I need you." Atropos moaned as she doubted she would get another chance to battle but she was still glad she did well in the first round. " You are lucky you have the type advantage you big bully. You had better not lose after taking my spot." Atropos said as Kamikaze held out her Life Orb and got ready to attack. " Kamikaze use your Feint Attack on Haunter." Marchbaby ordered as the confident Weavile got ready to strike. Even knowing the Life Orb would sap some of her energy it was not enough to put her spirit down believing she could defeat the Haunter.



OOC: Atropos is switched out for Kamikaze using the free switch in. Kamikaze uses Feint Attack. Kamikaze is holding a life Orb.

The purple gaseous ghost studied its opponent carefully, as Morty kept his gaze transfixed upon the dark-blue haired trainer. Marchbaby’s commentary mirrored Morty’s own heart, as he found ghost type Pokemon to be one of the best companions that were extremely useful, when you prepared for their weaknesses properly. The Haunter floated above the furry black feline with a large red crown and used its floating hands to pull at the edges of its mouth, stretching out its own face in a weird, rather funny expression. “Please tell me you will stay and play with us for a while!” Haunter laughed and chuckled.

“I find when you learn how to work alongside a ghost Pokemon, you’ll find no better companion.” Morty commented with a snap of his fingers. He nodded towards his own floating purple ghost Pokemon, whose smile would have brightened even more if it weren’t already stretched out to its maximum. What must it have been like, wandering around as a Salamence? Ghost Pokemon were often known to play pranks, and not all of their pranks were safe, either. “Ah. What an experience you’ve had to endure! Perhaps, she was only testing you. Though, I often find that my ghostly friends love their tricks.” He added with a smile. “Haunter, use Night Shade.” He gave a firm nod. They needed to strike while the iron was hot, if they wanted a chance to turn things around.

Haunted nodded and focused on its attack. Haunter’s large and expressive eyes began to glow a bright red. It was rather eerie and creepy the way Haunter made its eyes glow as it prepared to attack the Weavile, since it kept the same silly grin that stretched across its entire face. “Now we really get to play!” Haunter exclaimed excitedly. Kamikaze moved fast, almost dancing with Haunter, who floated around. Kamikaze distracted the Haunter, getting it to chase after her a bit as it prepared the deadly Night Shade attack, only to slip up from around a large pillar and behind the other Pokemon. She easily overpowered her opponent and knocked Haunter out.

Morty recalled his Haunter with a heavy sigh. He pulled out another Pokeball and held it in his hand for a second, before a large round purple Pokemon with two large, fox like ears appeared in front of Morty just before he pressed the Pokeball to release his Gengar. “Looks like you’ve made rather quick work of my Gastly and Haunter. However, Gengar won’t give you such an easy win.” He warned Marchbaby with a confident nod towards his fully evolved ghost type.

Gym Leader Morty's Gengar [Lvl 34] appeared out of nowhere?!

As Kamikaze easily dealt with Morty's Haunter only taking minor damage from her Life Orb Marchbaby was feeling very confident that he would win this gym battle. After his experience with Bugsy however he did not care count Morty out yet as he doubted the Gengar he would have to defeat would be a pushover. " I have to admit as much trouble as Atropos can cause it is still nice to have a ghost type companion though as I am a dragon tamer apprentice a dragon type will always be my favorite. Even so it is great to branch out and learn the strengths and weaknesses of every Pokemon." Marchbaby said trying to stay polite as he got ready for another round.

He was kind of shocked that Morty seemed to believe his tale as he thought for sure he would sound nuts but even with Morty believing him he was not about to go easy on the gym leader. He knew if the Night Shade Haunter had attempted Kamikaze would have been in trouble. " To say the least from what I have seen of ghost types their power must be respected. Between Atropos's curse and that Night Shade your Haunter tried it inspires me to raise Atropos even more. It is a blessing to have a Pokemon that can counter ghosts types as well as Kamikaze has defeated many ghost types."

Kamikaze was more than ready to go as she looked at the Gengar with demonic eyes ready to cut the spirit down like she had Haunter. Having already defeated a Gengar in Ilex Forest she knew she could outrun it and with her Life Orb she could fully take advantage of her strength and type to give Morty a fantastic show of force. She extended the claws on her right hand as she held the Life Orb in her left hand and got ready to run towards Gengar the moment she was ordered. A loud bang from the thunderstorm outside set the tone for her strike perfectly as the flash would certainly distract anyone for the mere second she needed.

Before Marchbaby could give the order she took off like a bolt of lightning and closed the gap almost immediately. Marchbaby knew there was nothing to stop her from trying to deal a finishing blow but he could at least officially order the attack so he did not technically break any rules. " Kamikaze you are too fast for me at times but just to make it official use Feint Attack on that Gengar. Let's hope that Life Orb gives you the power boost you need."

The GYM leader understood that most of the trainers that he met preferred to keep a variety of Pokemon equipped to their team. It was telling, then, how they chose to utilize their Pokemon partners in battle as to how equipped and trained their team was. The blue-haired trainer spoke of his apprenticeship as a Dragon type trainer, and it held Morty’s curiosity a bit. “Did you choose to go for the advantage in our match, then? I like to train my Pokemon to be prepared for anything, including weaknesses.” Though, the blonde-haired GYM Leader had to admit that he needed to work on his Team’s speed at the very least, if he hoped to be prepared for the next equally qualified Pokemon trainer with such a speedy partner on their team.

”Gengar, try to put the other Pokemon asleep. Use Hypnosis!” Morty instructed. The large purple gaseous ghost-like figured smirked eerily and nodded. It stretched out its hands and began to chant a soothing rhythm in a repetitious tone of its namesake. Kamikaze raced out in a blazing speed. The large Gengar would keep its cool under pressure as the other Pokemon darted all about, only turning to keep up with Kamikaze as it chanted and tried to lull the other Pokemon asleep. “Earning the respect of a ghost type Pokemon will carry you far in life, my friend. I’ve found not truer companion whose loyalty, bravery, and intelligence is as quite matched. Although, their trickery is a part of the package, at times.” Morty chuckled, as he added on the last piece in jest.

Kamikaze would slip up and slash at Gengar with her claws, knocking the wind out of the Pokemon in an overpowering move that would manage to just take the ghost-type Pokemon out. Morty summoned Gengar back into his Pokeball and began to clap his hands in a loud applause. He strolled over to Marchbaby with an extension of his hand, offering his hand to shake with the trainer. “You’ve done a miraculous job as defeating me. Your Weavile’s speed is unmatched. Here,” Morty pulled out a small badge pendant that looked like a fog with two white eyes, or like a dark piece of torn cloth. “I bestow upon you the Fog Bag. With this badge, you can use Surf outside of battle to surf across large oceans and rivers. Here’s the prize money that is rightfully yours for defeating me, as well. And TM 30 Shadow Ball. I was hoping Gengar would have had a chance to show you just how strong such a move can be.” He admitted with a smile. Morty would also bow towards Marchbaby out of respect.

As Kamikaze scored a direct hit Marchbaby could not shake the worry that Gengar would endure the hit as this one was more powerful one than the one he and Kamikaze had faced in the Ilex Forest. His fears were quickly relieved however as the Feint Attack was boosted just enough by Kamikaze's Life Orb that she was able to knock the ghost type out in a single blow. He was in awe of the Weavile's power and also a bit surprised by how humble Morty was in such a one sided loss. He had to admit the gym leader sure had plenty of class despite not even being able to launch a single attack.

" After this battle I certainly will have to look into befriending one or two more ghost types for my team. I have no doubt that without Kamikaze this battle would be a lot closer. Her speed even amazes me even after watching Clair battle with her dragon types a few years back." He said before Morty offered to shake his hand. Marchbaby gladly shook his hand as he had certainly earned Marchbaby's respect despite the battle being more one sided than he had anticipated. After Morty finished speaking Marchbaby responded one last time to thank him for a great battle and wish him the best.

" Thank you so much for the wonderful battle. I will make good use of this TM as I have a few ghost types that can take advantage of it. I wish you the best and if we ever cross paths again I would love a rematch someday." He said with a bit smile on his face as he put the TM in his backpack and the gym badge in it's case. As he did that Atropos floated forward and for the first time in her life smiled at Morty believing he truly was a worthy mortal. " For a mortal you were certainly impressive, a shame I did not get more of a chance to show you my power but your ghost partners have inspired me to grow even stronger." She said before floating back over to Marchbaby.

As she did Marchbaby waved goodbye before he made his way to the gyms exit. There were a few sites in town he wanted to check out but first he wanted to train a bit and maybe stop by Olivine City as well and see if anything there was worth checking out. " Let's head to route 38 next for a bit of training. I know the next gym leader will be far more challenging and I want to be ready."
