It was time again and Aglaia knew the drill by now so she didn't listen closely when the rules was mentioned and the bell sounded for the start of the event.
Instead she enjoyed the nice weather, spring had finally arrived and the sun was shining and gave a bit of warmth today. Birds where singing although not much from the park itself as it was reserved for the bugs, and they often didn't fancy the birds that much.
Beside Aglaia Tondra stomped the ground restlessly and Aglaia shot her a glance, she thought she had managed to run the horse tired before coming here but the blitzle seemed to be caught by the excitement of the other contestants, which there were surprisingly few of this time.
Aglaia shrugged, it was a nice weather so perhaps people rather wanted to relax than go hunting, and bugs often weren't very popular.
The two waited for the rest of the contestants to spread out before setting into motion themselves, as usual. Aglaia wasn't interested in racing around in the middle of it all, she was sure there would be fewer pokemon to meet there anyway. She had researched a bit and had learned that the tall grass should hide most pokemon, which was quite logical, she just worried of Tondra could set it ablaze if she was careless.
She decided to walk right at the edge of the different length of grass, in the expectation of spotting something in the tall version and hoping being able to lure it out into the open for the battle.

All the rambunctious kids barrelling into the park bushes and grass patches made for a mad scramble. Sewaddle was no exception. Panic had overtaken it as it tried to scurry into a safer spot rather than enjoying the bit of sun they had finally been blessed with. As it tried to escape it ended up dropping its latest leaflets. As they set into motion and the other contestants were off Tondra calmed down a bit, which made Aglaia relax as well. She had hoped it might just be the atmosphere and she was glad she was right, it was good to know in other cases where they might be among a lot of people.
To others Tondra might not look calm at all as the blitzle trotted around, back and forth with her head turning and ears twisting, but when Aglaia knew the energetic Tondra would be galloping all over the place she thought her pokemon looked very calm.
Tondra snorted at something, ears pointing forward and a moment later a sewaddle bursted out of the tall grass only to stop and turn around to pick up some leaves it had dropped before hurrying on. It ran straight through Tondra's legs without really noticing her and the blitzle looked surprised after it.
Aglaia debated a moment, she already had a sewaddle but it might be a good candidate for the contest should she be unlucky and not meet anything else today.
"Try slow it down with a Thunder Wave," Aglaia ordered, and Tondra didn't even turn to aim her wave at the fleeing bug, she simply just sent a wave out in all directions.
Aglaia hesitated another moment and the looped one of her sport balls at it.

Tondra's ears was turned back as she listened for the sound of the pokeball, when it confirmed the capture she snorted, shook her head and trotted forward with her attention of what is happening in the grass close by.
Aglaia too was pretty surprised with how easy it had been to capture the sewaddle, it had been a lucky catch she was sure of that. Especially when Tondra had paid so little attention to what she was doing and was already off to the next thing.
Bending down to collect the pokeball Aglaia thought about if she could do this smarter than just hoping to run into something good, but the little she had researched before hand hadn't seemed promising and she didn't really have any ideas.
There was no way of telling what you would run into and even if you scouted ahead in the days ahead of the contest the pokemon would obviously move, especially with how many of the younger bug catchers acted when the whistle sounded.
Most bug types would be racing off like this sewaddle or they would have went into hiding, the best place would probably be at the edge of where most of the other participants where and see if they chased something in her direction.
Aglaia straightened and narrowed her eyes as she tried to see what it was Tondra had discovered. The blitzle was slowly walking towards something on stiff legs, ears pointed forward as she stretched her head trying to get a sniff of what it was she had found.
Aglaia pocketed the sports ball and jogged closer to see what was going on.

Tondra leaped back as a scyther popped out of the grass and she sent a poorly aimed shockwave out as she spun around to run off. It missed completely and the scyther buzzed up into the air. Tondra turned back after a few steps and was ready to face her 'attacker' but the scyther was just zipping away and soon a shout from a kid revealed it had been spotted by another contestant.
Aglaia stared shocked as the boy pushed his way in front of her with a wild look in his eyes.
"I saw it first!" He screamed at her and she winced as she was right beside him and he was loud!
His strong looking butterfree dived at the scyther from above to intercept it from running off and their battle soon started.
Aglaia hesitated as the kid had been really rude and she wasn't sure if she should say anything. Honestly she didn't really want to take the argument and she told herself she thought the scyther looked a bit scary with its big scythes even though Wystan's was pretty similar.
"Come on Tondra, let's see what else we can find," Aglaia called out and did her best to ignore the feeling of being a pushover. The blitzle had been glaring at the bug types but the moment Aglaia called she snorted dismissively and turned her back to them, she snorted happily to her trainer as she passed her and then trotted off.
Aglaia turned her back to the battle as well, time to see if there was something hiding at the edge of the grass, by now the wild pokemon had to be hiding in the more quieter areas of the park.

The caterpie froze and the same did Tondra, then the bug sighed and accepted there was no way out of battle. At least Aglaia looked more mature and it hoped the battle wouldn't be as rowdy as it had expected it would be with the boy it had ran from. It was certain it wasn't going to get caught, trainers had no interest in small worms like itself with scythers around.
It rose as high as it could in the grass and nodded to Tondra, ready to battle.
"It wants to battle?" Aglaia said surprised and glanced back towards the butterfree currently fighting.
"Perhaps it wants to grow stronger to evolve?" She mused out loud while Tondra snorted and returned the nod while stomping impatiently.
"Alright, we don't have much time though. Go ahead with some Flame Charges but don't overdo it Tondra," Aglaia warned, not wanting to see the worm burned to crisp.
Tondra neighed and Aglaia had to jump back as Tondra got the air to crackle around her, setting it on fire, before racing at the caterpie. Aglaia blowed on her sore hand, worried what the result would be on the bug when this little had hurt herself this much.

The battle was over before it really started although Aglaia briefly thought the caterpie actually had what it took to stand up against her electric horse, when it endured the first fire attack and retaliated. Tondra was fast though and spun around and hit it again and that was enough for it to give up, it crawled off slowly not at all surprised that the human wasn't attempting to catch it.
"Well done Ton..." Aglaia trailed off as a light engulfed her blitzle. She knew that one! It was just as with Wystan and Saury, Tondra was evolving!
She was right, a moment later a much bigger horse stood in front of her and Aglaia snapped for her breath as she tensed up. Tondra had become about twice as big and Aglaia still wasn't great with big pokemon.
Tondra looked at her pussled, snorted and turned to trot out over the grass again. Aglaia forced herself to exhale and relax, Tondra didn't seem aggressive at all, and while the zebstrika was the same size as herself she wasn't bigger. Aglaia could handle this.

Tondra once again paused when she spotted something, from her increased height she had a better view over the grass but she wasn't sure what the two upright branches were. They didn't look right, too many thorns on them and no signs of leaves.
Aglaia's eyes widened when the pinsir stood up, that was a rare pokemon! Should could be lucky to win the competition with this one! A quick glancing around confirmed there were no-one else around which could interfere like with the scyther.
"Tondra wait!" Aglaia exclaimed but it was too late.
The blitzle had laid down her ears when the bug had stood up threateningly in front of her, and she wasn't going to wait for it to attack first. She kicked with hoves cracling of electricity before setting herself on fire and leaping at it.

Tondra blinked a few times and then spun around trotting on in an attempt to find something else useful to make up for her rash actions. She had completely forgotten what they were here for and had just acted on the threat she had seen in front of her.
Aglaia sighed disappointed and looked at where the pinsir had disappeared but the bug was long gone, she would have liked to win the competition but honestly she probably wouldn't have dared to keep it around. Those pinsers looked rather intimidating.
As she followed Tondra she wondered what the difference was for her on those pinsers and Wystan's stingers.
