Lei looked around curiously. Finally! Finally she could participate after having missed a lot of the former competitions.
"They could have advertised them better," she mumbled before straightening her back as if to get rid of the negative thoughts, it didn't matter now. She had kept an eye out and she was here now.
"Not much competition though," she mumbled to herself with a wry smile as she watched the others participants milling around with their chosen pokemon as they waited for the start signal. Most seemed to have the tactic of damaging the pokemon they met, instead of making them easier to catch and Lei was curious to see how that would work compared to her own.
She scouted towards the park which spread out in front of them, it was wet and soggy and a bit chilly, but at least the rain which had held Goldenrod in an iron grip had taken a brake by now. Lei glanced towards the holes in the clouds and wondered if they had used Sunny Day to make the weather bearable for the competition. With that ice cold rain Lei was certain no bugs would have showed themselves.
Now she could see something small in a tree, which probably was a caterpie or something similar, not what she was hoping for but again, most of the really rare bugs she already had. She liked competitions and it was a great way to get a pokemon to register for the Professors pokedex.

The signal rung and Lei waited to see where the others went, and then turned to walk briskly to the right, around the grass which was in another way of the others.
"Let them flush and scare all the pokemon to me, and I'll be ready!" she murmured to herself with a malicious grin. The game was on.

The grass went completely abuzz with all manner of movement both trainer and pokémon. The long blades parted by Lei to reveal an autumn colored bug desperately waddling itself as far away from the action as fast as it could. When it noticed it had run smack into her it chimed in perfectly tuned f.

Lei's plan worked perfectly, "I'm too good for this," she said with a wry smile even though the first on which appeared was somewhat disappointing. It ran straight into her leg which made her take a step back to keep her balance and she looked at it curiously but son huffed when she realized what it was.
She pulled both a pokeball and a pokedex from her pocket and released her komala as she pointed the pokedex on the kricketot to get it registreret and doing her best to ignore its sounds. It had a good tune but Lei was more interested in if it could battle.
"Not that interesting but its better than nothing I suppose," she said and found a sports ball, she watched the bug a moment before she looped the ball at it.
Morfeus in front of her plopped down on his side, snoring happily away and was seemingly completely unaware of what was going on around him.

Lei's mouth fell open when the pokeball confirmed the capture much faster than anticipated, it barely touched the ground and shook before it laid still. She recalled Morfeus and went over to the Sports Ball and picked it up, it was blinking red signaling it was closed and she couldn't let out its content.
"Why were you so easy to catch?" The black haired woman asked the unresponsive pokeball, "do you really want to leave this place so badly or are you just that weak?"
She studied the sports ball a bit longer before she stuffed it away in her pocked and shrugged, it wasn't like she was going to get her answer now.
"A kricketot, evolved it might be good at entertaining at the hotel," Lei mused only to freeze up and scowl, "You're not going to sent that one back home, they don't deserve it."
She walked off briskly as if she tried to walk away from her problems and dark thoughts.

As she walked along the path around the grassy area she eyed the other contestants and tried to guess what way they would be moving and where pokemon they flushed out would try to fun.
"If they just knew how they were helping me," Lei cackled to herself and her eyes widened when she spotted an opening in between the other trainers which would be perfect for a pokemon trying to sneak away, and she stopped to watch it closely.
A smirk crept up on her face when she saw a faint movement in the grass in that exact area and she waited until it had moved further from the other trainers, before she flung out Morfeus's pokeball and let him materialize right in the path of the escaping bug. It wasn't going to get away.

The stout young centipede that stepped through the grasses wasn't expecting a slumbering stump to be blocking its way once it had made it to the lighter section of flora. It immediately stopped, staring dully at Morfeus as he lightly snored away; seemingly oblivious to what was going on around him. The venipede hesitated, but eventually went to try and get around the festive komala.

Lei's plan was working perfectly, of course it was. Morfeus dropped out of the pokeball and to his side, and the rustling through the grass stopped. Lei straightened to her toes to try spot what it was she had stopped, but couldn't see it as the grass was too high.
She glanced over at the nearby contestants but they seemed busy so no danger of anyone coming and interfering from that direction.
"With my luck it's probably another kricketot," Lei said and stepped into the grass to get a closer look, readying a Sports Ball for when she got close enough.

"A venipede! See this is a cool pokemon!" Lei said with a grin, "Morfeus, Yawn!"
Not that Lei waited for the move to take effect, just for her pokemon to do her bidding before she let the sports ball fly through the air.
"Venipede, all bug catchers dream pokemon and now I got one," she grinned expectantly as she felt sure she would get the pokemon, if not before then after it had fell asleep.
Lei stole another smugly glance at the other contestants, why they didn't go for the easy way and put the opponent to sleep was beyond her, "perhaps they don't have one, I'm sure they can realize how effective it is to catch a pokemon who can't resist," she mused. She had to remember that not all had the same advantages when it came to pokemon as she did, even though they might know there was a better way.

The Venipede was ready for Morfeus and rushed over to bite down on the other Pokemon with its tiny, buggy mouth. Morfeus let out a cute yawn that was so disarming the Venipede couldn't help but join it and yawn as well. The Pokemon felt really drowsy and in the next round it dozed off to sleep. The Park Ball spun in the air and captured the other Pokemon with just a couple wriggles of the Pokeball but largely no protest.

As expected the bug was faster than her unmoving and ever sleeping koala, Lei wasn't sure what made the bug suddenly turn aggressive and attack Morfeus when it had just tried to move around a moment before. Perhaps it had been her shouting that made it understand this was a battle?
"Well, it doesn't matter anyway," Lei said as she readied the sports ball, "it just means it stays around here."
She almost missed with her throw as the venipede sat in with a horrible screeching just as the red ball with a big white S on left her hand, she clamped her hands over her ears and groaned from pain until the sound was cut short. She half opened and eye and glanced towards where the venipede had been, and only saw the wriggling sport ball.
It flashed and Lei frantically pulled the other one containing the cricktetot out of her pocket, and just in time as it bursted open a moment later. Lei looked at the broken pokeball in her hand and frowned, she probably needed a better place to store the one keeping her capture unless she wanted to risk her jacket broken.

Something red moved and she snapped her head around, only to look at the kricketot, who looked at her with big eyes and a little smile.
"What are you still doing here? Shoo!" She said and waved her hands at it, its antennaes dropped as well as its arms. Lei stopped paying attention to it and went over to pick up the pokeball containing her new bug.
"I wonder if you are enough to win this competition," she asked it with a smirk, and recalled Morfeus without really looking, he was still laying on his site making low snoring noises.

Lei looked up to see what the other trainers were up to where the biggest chances of some pokemon getting flushed out to. While some pokemon she would run into like this probably would be scaredy-cats, they still had to be smart and coolheaded to avoid getting seen and get away.
Lei paused when she saw a trainer heading back towards the entrance, "already? Have I missed the bell?" She asked herself confused and took a few hesitant steps towards the entrance as well. She did have quite a catch to offer but she had thought they had had more time and she had hoped to run into some more pokemon.
"Wait, the others doesn't look like they are done yet," Lei mumbled to herself and watched a battle end between a bug catcher and a dustox ending with the purple and green bug being sucked into a sport ball. The bug catcher certainly did not turn back towards the entrance, but raced on through the grass.
"Alright, we see what else will appear," Lei decided and looked at the one leaving, "he probably couldn't hit and have used up all his pokeballs," she said smirking. One less opponent for the big prize and the most important, the bragging rights.

A wurmple crawls out of the grass. It seems to be really excited and happy about something. But it bumps into Morfeus, causing it to jump back and glare at the other Pokemon. It shoot out a long thin silky thread past Morfeus' head as a warning. It seems like the next move might not miss if Lei and her Pokemon do not turn away?1-42·7-20

Lei turned back to the path and continued along it while she kept an eye on the battlers in the grass, and watched for movements in the grass which could indicate other pokemon moving in her direction.
Suddenly the grass on the other side of the path rustled and she turned her head and narrowed her eyes, had she heard right. Something crashed through the undergrowth and she frowned and let out Morfeus in front of her, in between herself and whatever was coming in her direction. The grass moved and a wurmple popped out and almost ran headfirst into Morfeus.
"Wurmple? How did you make so much noise?" Lei asked out loudly and shrugged, "Morfeus, Stockpile and then Spit Up!"
Morfeus did a big yawn but of the non-contagious kind and his belly seemed to grow to twice the size, and he help it, and held it, and held it, for what felt like hours to Lei although it probably was only seconds. Then he opened his mouth again and a beam shot out towards the Wurmple.

"No!" A voice shouted and Lei's head snapped around towards the sound, a kid had bursted out from the more wild area in the park and he looked devastated at the battle in front of him. He had a woven hat on his head and a Sport Ball in the hand, no net in sight but Lei was sure he was a bug enthusiast.
"It's not fair!" He wailed and tears began to stream down his cheeks.
"By Tapu Bulu! I'm so sorry! Did you try to catch it already?" Lei exclaimed, a bit overdramatic but kids often reacted good on that. The kid nodded as his whole body slumped down.
"I battled it with my Kakuna but it refuses to stay in the pokeball and I only have one left and now I won't get any to the competition and I really tried hard," the kid wailed and Lei began to want to slap him for his screaming. Instead she took a deep breath and reminded herself that kids didn't think much and that she certainly didn't want this wurmple anyway.

"Hey, hey!" she called, first kindly and then more secretly, it worked and the boy stopped half screaming and looked at her confused. Lei made a big show of looking around as if she wanted to make sure no-one was near to hear what she said. It made the boy look around nervously as well.
"If my pokemon wins this battle, it will probably be because you battled it first, he's not very strong you see," she told him quietly and the boy pouted. "But you did see it first and all that, so it wouldn't be fair if I stole the catch from you. I'll let you catch it if we beat it, okay?" Lei offered with a wry smil and the boy's face lit up.
"For real?!" He asked excitedly but then looked more uncertain, "really? Are you sure? It's really strong!" He explained and looked like he thought it would make Lei change her mind.
"Hmm," Lei said pretending to think about it, "yeah, for real. I have caught another pokemon and you are certainly more interested in this one than I am," Lei confirmed and the boy lightened up.
A rustle was heard behind him but he didn't even turn and a moment later his kakuna hobbled in.
"Is it allowed?" The boy then asked worried and Lei mentally facepalmed.
"They haven't said anything about not being allowed to help each other, and what they don't know, can't hurt them," Lei shrugged, "the only one it would hurt is me anyway, so it must be my decision." The kid visibly relaxed after that and readied his last Sport Ball for when the wurmple would go down.

Wurmple watches the Komala nervously as its belly expands. It immediately charges after the other Pokemon and leaps at them, landing on Mofeus's side and biting down with its tiny buggy mouth. Morfeus then spits up everything that he had been stockpiling, knocking the Wurmple out and making it an easy catch for the young NPC trainer who had been eying it for some time now.

Morfeus' spitting beam knocked the eye out cold and Lei nodded pleased and looked expectantly at the kid at her side.
He was shaking, he had raised his arm but it was frozen there and Lei frowned.
"What are you waiting for?" She asked him impatiently and he opened at closed his mouth a few times.
"It's.. it's my last ball," he whispered, "what if I misses? I have done that so many times.."
Lei rolled her eyes and interrupted him, "it's unconscious! Go over at tap it with it instead," she instructed and he blinked a few times. He stumbled over and did as told, the wurmple got sucked in and the Sport Ball confirmed the capture almost immediately.
The boy stared at the ball in his hand in disbelief and then began to both cry and laugh at the same time, Lei looked up at the sky in exasperation but didn't say anything.
"I thought I'd never get it, it jumped out and dodged so many times!" he wailed between his laughing and he turned to look excitedly at Lei, who quickly put on a kind expression for him.
"You missed because it is strong! You just need to wear them down more than this time," she reassured him and he beamed at her and began to dry off his tears and mumbled his thanks. Lei recalled Morfeus and smiled at the boy.
"I still have some time to see if I can find something as interesting, see you," she quickly said her goodbyes and hurried off, eying the grass and the other battles and hoped she hadn't missed something good.

She would quickly stumble upon a relative of the wurmple nestled in the nook of some tree roots. It had tried to hide, but its off-purple cocoon didn't blend very well with its surroundings.

Lei stomped off, several of the battlers in the grassy field looked really happy and was turning back towards the entrance, hoping their pokemon especially could win them the big prize. Lei would have to be fast if she should find something else they had scared off, most likely there would be fewer now as the bugs would already have run off.
Something colorful and purple caught her eye and she stepped away from the path to check it out. A pout appeared on her face as she saw it was just a cascoon trying to hide in plain sight.
"Their stupidity keeps to amaze me," she said dryly as she aimed her pokedex at it to get it registreret for the professor and then she turned her back to it to return to the path in the hope of finding something special just before the bell rung. She would get time to catch it if she met it before it ended, right?

Lei picked up speed to get back on the path but she quickly realized that there was next to no battles left out in the open grass, and there were no movement of what she could see, going away from it. If there was anything left out there, they were hiding in place like the cascoon she had just seen and she was not going to try find a needle in a haystack.
She turned and continued along the path but now with an eye on the other side, looking for a dense part of the undergrowth where bugs could hide until the commotion was over. She spotted a promising spot beside a puddle a way in and turned in that direction. She stopped at a good distance and then looped Morfeus' ball straight into where it was thickets, letting the komala break out and hopefully take a pokemon by surprise by his sudden appearance right on top of them.
