From talking to a few people on here I figured we have quite a few bilingual speakers which is pretty cool. ;D I was starting to think not all that many people took an interest in foreign languages.
I myself am unfortunately restricted to the English language and although I have taken some French and Spanish classes during my GCSE tenure, i've mostly forgotten what little they taught me. I can do fairly well picking up on some German and Latin phrases though oddly enough. Perhaps it's something I should pursue looking into it.

I've never had a dramatic desire to learn another language since I don't see myself ever going to another country and making good use of what I learned. Though I am learning a song in Swahili... damn you Baba Yetu. >>

French and Japanese, my two favorites. I know only a few phrases from each but several mixed Japanese words.
I've always hated the different varieties of Spanish, not to offend anyone here who's had that as their mothertongue, just in my personal taste I think it's one of the ugliest languages I've heard. German, on the other hand, I love. The rolling R's... Too fun!!

My mother language is Flemish (witch is something between German and Dutch, more Dutch thou - technically speaking Flemish is a dialect of Dutch, thou the accents and sayings are VERY different) English should be my 4th language, but It's more like my 2end. It speak and wright it pretty good, thou I can't get rid of my accent I can take care of myself in French (witch should be my 2end language) But not more then that. German, who should be my 3th Language, I hardly speak. A few phrases, only cause It resembles my mother language so closely. So I can take care here too ^^ Never had Latin, thou I do know a few words Japanese; Well, I'm kinda learning form watching anime, really complicated. Na'vi: this language is something I have to learn from one of my friends Spanish and Italian ... Never had the classes, and I would prefer to learn German But wow, There are people here that can speak those!!! ;D

Wow. I feel really outclassed here, seems like you lot are all expert linguists! How do people pick up the languages so easy? I'm not sure if i've just had a bad time being taught due to my teachers being rubbish (Actually, I am sure this might be the sole reason) but i'm just amazed. Did people learn a lot of these languages from when they were young? You have soooo many different languages you know, Misty. Seriously, that's a pretty cool diverse mix. Your English is very good too, you have a better grasp on it than some other people i've spoken too who are native speakers. *pokes them with a burning hot rod of decimation* >_>

Haha, Joey XD I'm totally into Japanese through Jap. music and anime/ manga. That's the only way I know a few scattered things here and there - not to mention the "how to learn" game I just down loaded for my DS - one for Japanese and one for French! So far, they've ingrained a lot of words in my memory, very useful little games. French is way harder than Japanese, the words sound nothing like they are spelled o.o;

Most Malaysians tend to be bilingual or trilingual depending; Malays are usual Bilingual while Chinese and Indians are Trilingual due to the need to pick up Malay, their own language and English at the same time. Myself, most of my family speak English/ Malay. I know bits and pieces of Japanese and some German which I picked up from my mother who used to speak the language very well in her younger days. She occasionally still sleeptalks in German, which is very amusing to listen to. I think Latin would be a rather fun language to learn actually...

Wow. I feel really outclassed here, seems like you lot are all expert linguists! How do people pick up the languages so easy? Did people learn a lot of these languages from when they were young? It's not that special around here. Not when you know, most of our tv-shows are still in the original language, with subtitles. The Simpson's are very popular here, and are always with subtitles. Movies: always in the original language. You pick it up ^^ and living in a land with 3 languages, you have to be able to speak at least 2 of them. So some get French when they are only in kindergarden. (not everyone, I got French for the first time in 3th or 4th grade) And then there's just the thing that all of those languages are connected! I mean: sit=zit hound=hond man=man dragon=draak Run=ren German is that way too. French doesn't have so many connections, unfortunately.

I'm fluent in English, being that it is my first language, they made us learn a bit of latin, as it tends to mingle with English. All those root words and such. My mother is an immigrant from Poland so as a youngling she taught me to speak. I've lost a lot, but I'd be able to get around push comes to shove. I took an interest in French and tried to teach myself it one summer. I can speak incredibly broken French, but enough so that it's... understandable. I'm taking Spanish, and I work at a place where Spanish is needed, so I think I'm doing well. Caliente!
