Having grown up in the region of Sinnoh, Deirdre had prepared herself for the bitter cold that hovered in the air of New Bark Town. Pressing the red scarf that hung around her neck closer to her flushed cheeks, she released a soft breath as her hazel gaze lifted to the sky. The gentle fall of snow was a familiar scene to the young woman; it reminded her of home. As a smile graced her lips, Deirdre glanced down at the heavy Pokéball that lay nestled against her palm, reminding her that she had finally become a Trainer. Inside the sphere was her first Pokémon, a female Charmander she had received from the Professor residing in the town. The weight of the capsule was enough for Deirdre to realize that her journey had only just begun, and with a slow intake of breath, she gently tossed the Pokéball into the air to release her new companion. As the Fire-type Pokémon revealed itself, she couldn't help but giggle while watching the Charmander yawn then eventually turn its large eyes up towards the human. The flame on its tail flickered while its head tilted to the side, soon standing on its two hind feet to meet the strange human's gaze. Letting out a cry of pure curiosity, it watched carefully as the brunette knelt to its level and extended a friendly hand to it. Waddling towards her, it sniffed the tips of her fingers to take in her scent. Then, after a moment, the Charmander nuzzled its small snout against her palm. Taking this as a positive sign, she allowed herself to caress the reptile's head while earning a happy sound from it. With a much brighter smile lighting up her face, Deirdre lifted her Pokémon into her arms and let out a laugh as it nuzzled its nose against her cheek. She was pleasantly surprised at how friendly it was despite just meeting each other. As Deirdre tilted her head while deep in thought, a name for her new friend soon came to mind. "I think I will call you Calathea. How does that sound?" She asked the Charmander, receiving a joyful cry in response. Setting the newly dubbed Calathea back onto the snow-covered ground, Deirdre turned her head to face the route that awaited them. Breathing in deeply through her nostrils, the aspiring Trainer glanced down to see her Pokémon meet her gaze. Exchanging nods towards each other, they proceeded to make their way out of the small hamlet that was New Bark Town and into Route 29. -------------- [OOC: Changing the Charmander's gender, name, and personality if that's alright! I also would love for Deirdre's new Cufant and Gossifleur to be introduced somehow in the thread! Thank you!] Calathea Lv. 5

The world was a strange place, lost in its winter wonderland of ice and snow. The white frost coated the tops of the tall, browned grasses, causing them to buckle and sway underneath their heavy weight. A gentle and warm undercurrent spiraled around the atmosphere, spinning up bits of lost and fallen debris in rapid circles across the ground. Though their currents weren’t strong enough to leave any lasting impact, the southern winds that whistled on the open airways would gently warm and melt the collected piles of snow, creating a wetter and soggier earth underneath. The sounds of a loud skirmish rose up over the open route and shuddered its way through the canopy of leaves and thick branches. It was a loud cry – something strange and bizarre, as though the barer belonged upon a savannah instead of a heavily forested region. Loud, thunderous sounds of hoof-steps trampling this way and that caused the ground underneath to buckle and shake from its weight. The strange creature would trumpet out again at the top of its lungs, as if it were virtue signaling for help, no matter how frail and improbable the source. Another Pokemon poked its head out from between two thick bushes. What Deirdre would have noticed right away, should the twenty-six year old’s attention keep a firm and attentive focus on the ever-changing world around them, was a small yellow flower suddenly propping up between the bushes. The large ferns were barren during this time of year, however, and held nothing more than a bundle of kindle, still glued to their roots, and a layer of soggy snow that drooped in wet clumps onto the forested floor below. The yellow flower seemed to visibly shake, twitching nervously about, and whether the trainer or her team tried to touch, or they tried to move on and leave it be, the plant would immediately jump out and screech at the top of its tiny lungs. Underneath the flower crown that sat at the top of the flower-child’s head were two large, brown eyes. Her eyes were widened, and she stood stiff in one moment, then frantically jumping around and squealing in another. One thing was certain, however. Her friend needed help! Then, after a long moment of incoherent screaming patched between awkward bouts of silence, the small Gossifleur would break the ice. “Please be nice people. Please be nice people. Oh, pleaaseee! My Cufant friend is stuck in a trap, and she can’t get out! I’ve tried everything and I’m just…” Tears leaked from the plants eyes and cascaded onto the ground below, “I’m just not strong enough…Please! I beg you, help us!” She pleaded to the flame-tailed lizard and her trainer. Should Deirdre and Calathea heed the call of this small Pokemon’s pleas, the Gossifleur would hop as quickly as she could through the tangle of vines and arching limbs. She would lead them to a small area where the pachyderm struggled against vines that were snaked tightly around one of its feet, flipped upside down and hog-tied to the spot. On top of the poor, defeated Pokemon would sit another Pokemon – a very round and rotund brown rabbit with large, dark-brown ears. “We didn’t know this was Sentret’s territory!” Gossifleur would explain as the tears stained her cheeks. “Before I knew it, they’d already captured my friend and tied her up. They’re saying they’ll never free her. They want her to starve. What Pokemon would be so cruel?!” Gossifeur needs Deirdre's help saving Cufant! Will Deirdre and Calathea battle Sentret and save Cufant?? Sentret is level 3. Battle weather will be Slippery! Shiny Check: KbpMAo1g1-421-42

At the sound of what seemed to be a Pokemon's distressed cry, Deirdre's feet ceased their movements as her hazel gaze swiftly turned to the direction it came from. The ground seemed to shake ever so slightly, causing the Trainer to stumble then regain her balance shortly after. Startled and confused, the young woman and her Charmander glanced at each other for a brief moment, then the rustling of the brush caught their attention. A delicate yellow blossom seemed to tremble as Deirdre caught sight of it, prompting her to walk over and slowly reach a hand out to it. However, just as she was about to graze her fingertips against the petals, the flower suddenly jumped out and proceeded to shriek. She reflexively pulled her hand back at the sound, eyes widening in surprise as she immediately realized that it was actually a Pokémon. According to the books, she had read while in Trainer School, the young woman realized that this particular Grass-type wasn't native to the Johto Region. What was it doing out here? Desperate to calm the poor thing down, Deirdre knelt to its level and attempted to cup her hands around the Gossifleur. "Shh, you're okay. I won't hurt you." She spoke in a low yet gentle tone, hoping to soothe it. Once it stopped screaming at the top of its lungs, she offered a gentle smile. "There we go... Deep breaths, okay? What's wrong?"Once it had the energy to speak, the Gossifleur explained the situation to the human. Calathea, who had moved closer to the smaller Pokémon, wiped away its tears with her small claws as she and her Trainer absorbed the information given to them. With furrowed brows, Deirdre soon set it down on the ground. "Don't worry, little one." She smiled sweetly at the Pokémon, nodding once in reassurance. "We'll help you and your friend, so please don't cry."Deirdre and her Charmander soon followed after the flowering Pokémon as it lead the way, and before they knew it, the scene of a Cufant tied up in vines and a Sentret resting atop of it came into view. Frowning at the Gossifleur's words, the young woman glared at the back of the Normal-type Pokémon before turning to Calathea. "This will be our first battle... Are you ready?" She asked quietly, earning a determined expression and a nod. With a deep breath, Deirdre turned her gaze back to the two creatures and proceeded to give her first command. "Okay, Calathea. Use Growl to get that Sentret's attention."Charging towards the Cufant and Sentret, the Fire-type soon unleashed a mighty Growl attack in hopes of getting the small yet rotund Pokémon to face her. If successful, Deirdre would sneak her way towards the Cufant and gently reassure it that she was there to help. Once done, she'd tug at the vines in hopes of freeing the poor Steel-type. --------------

Upon Deidre arriving at the scene of the captured funny colored elephant Pokemon, the sentret sees the new intruders and prepares for another battle. It extends its claws in anticipation. The thing which it didn't expect was the charmander to growl at it which tossed the sentret off of its plan. It is so startled it fell off of the current captured Pokemon.
>>How dare you enter sentret territory!! As you can see, we already captured one invader who we will use as a pack animal for our foraging and other hunts. Prepare to be clawed into submission you fire breather.<<
Sentret uses scratch and as it does, it sees the flower Pokemon and smirks.
>>So you brought along another weakling who managed to escape as we were tying up the big fella. Thanks for bringing the flower along. Maybe we can use it as decoration in our wagon which will be attached to the elephant.<<
As much bravado the sentret has, it shakes its head to attempt to get the growl out of the sensitive ears.

Deirdre glared as she listened to the Sentret taunt her Charmander, tugging on the vines that kept the Cufant bound. "I won't let you do that. Calathea, Scratch it!" She shouted, earning a nod from her companion. Puffing out her chest bravely, Calathea dashed forward and extended her claws in hopes of landing a hit. As the battle ensued, the young woman turned to the Steel-type Pokémon with a tender expression. "You'll be okay. I promise I won't let anything happen to either of you." Nodding to the Gossifleur, her eyes crinkled warmly as a smile formed against her lips. She then tugged harder on the thick vines, eventually loosening their grip on the elephant before they fell limply around her. "You're free...! Hurry before the Sentret sees you. Run!"--------------

The vines cluttered to the ground around the Cufant, causing the timid pachyderm to look to the Sentret in concern. The rodent was busy engaged in battle with Calathea, the two beginner Pokemon slashing away at each other with their claws. Claws bounced off of claws in a quick tit-for-tat battle, the two seemingly on relatively equal playing fields for now. But still, that growl and the distraction of its prey escaping from it seemed to weigh on the Sentret. "Just give us the elephant and I'll let you and your human pet leave!" the Sentret offered. It had come out here to get its hands on the elephant and the plant; the lizard would be a good addition to their forces, but not a necessary one. That flaming tail would no doubt attract a lot of attention from the other factions of wild Pokemon in the woods while out hunting. Even though it would be nice to cuddle up around that tail flame at night. The Cufant looked up to Deidre, eyes welling up with emotion as it began nuzzling against her leg. A gesture of affection and gratitude for freeing it from its binds. After a moment of this, the Cufant reluctantly took its head away from the Trainer and began slowly scurrying into the nearby brush. The Gossifleur that had accompanied it bowed before bouncing along after it. The two Pokemon had chosen to hide and make themselves scarce; they would remain out of site for now, but unknown to everyone they chose to remain in the bushes, lest the girl that had saved them need their help against this morally dubious Sentret. A warm smile creased Deirdre's lips as the Steel-type rubbed against her leg, caressing its head with the palm of her hand. Relieved that it was now free from its bindings, she watched as the Cufant and Gossifleur took shelter in the nearby brush, hidden from the Sentret's view. The young woman comprehended that they wouldn't leave her or Calathea behind; the battle was far from over. Turning back to the spectacle, Deirdre glared at the Sentret and winced as her Charmander got hit by its Scratch attack. Shaking off the pain, Calathea snarled at her opponent and readied herself for another command. Hearing the other Pokémon's words, Deirdre's expression hardened before responding. "Hang in there, Calathea! Scratch it again; I know you can do it!" With a firm nod, the Charmander charged forward again and attempted to hit the rodent with another attack. --------------

The Cufant and Gossifleur squealed softly to cheer on their lizard hero. The fire type growled and grumbled at the Sentret for its involuntary kidnapping. The Sentret instead hummed and thought of another way to approach this. "How about this. You keep the flower girl and I keep the elephant? Sounds good? It would be an even split!" It offered, although the concept of not holding other Pokemon hostage hadn't formed yet in its tiny head. The two dished out their own claws again. The Charmander quickly dodged the Sentret's first couple scratches, and then struck back with her own claws. The Sentret squeaked in pain, and then quickly closed in on the recovering Charmander. Calathea was struck by the Sentret's stubby claws, somehow softened by the earlier Growl. "What do you think? I think it's a good deal. So is it a deal or no deal?" The Sentret asked, putting its hands on its waist. Then, it waited for a response from them, while quietly breath to recover its stamina, as it felt like it was on the last of its health. For a moment, Deirdre could have sworn she felt her eye twitch at the Sentret's offer. How did it have the nerve to ask such a thing? Irritation boiled in the young woman's veins while the battle ensued, her soft hazel-colored hues glaring at the Normal-type Pokémon harshly. "Do you think I would allow that to happen?" She questioned, tone low and harsh. Calathea was just as enraged at the idea, the flame on the tip of her tail growing in size and brightness despite the pain coursing through her body. Deirdre took a deep breath before she exchanged a nod with her Charmander, turning her gaze back to the Sentret. "I won't let you hurt these Pokémon ever again. Calathea, use one more Scratch attack! Knock it out!" Calathea released a mighty cry and charged at her opponent, claws poised high and slashed at it, hoping to land a hit. --------------

With one final scratch, the charmander heroically lunged forth and slashed that terrible sentret across the chest! There was a blood-chilling screech and as the sentret called for back up, its little voice echoing through the trees, but then...it fell silent and limp, unable to keep fighting. The little Gossifleur and Cufant were both free of the sentret's tyranny...for now. They cheered on their savior for a moment before turning hopeful eyes to the human, emerging from the bushed where they had hid themselves during the fight. Clearly, they were in need of protection in this big scary world. <Thank you!> Professed the Gossifleur with earnestness. <I do not think I would have been able to rescue my friend alone.> The cufant made a happy sound as well, <You really showed that mean sentret a lesson! Oh, but...maybe we should keep moving? With you? There could be more of those mean pokemon coming...>
