Rock Pool Encounter: Poliwag x Staryu #1 [Trixie & Charlie]

In her haste to cross the rocks, Trixie would not even notice the startled polliwog Pokemon until it was blasted onto the land by the Staryu's reaction. "Hey, watch what you're doing!" she shouted at the sea star Pokemon, having remembered her encounter with the one just prior. Were all Staryu such jerks? It jumped out of the water and started conversing with the Poliwag in a language she couldn't understand, but it seemed like the Poliwag was quite upset.

However it looked like things were taking a turn for the worst for her. Was the Staryu apologizing? Or was the Poliwag - with its pointing tail - accusing her of having caused the whole incident? Trixie could hardly see how any of this was her fault, but it was a moot point as Poliwag and Staryu appeared to join forces, then leapt dramatically toward Trixie. At this juncture she noticed a tall stranger with long black hair and dark skin. "Looks like they want to fight. Would you mind lending me a hand?"

Whether Charlie did or didn't agree, the Kantonian trainer would send out her Treecko, and point at the Poliwag. "That one seems to be the weaker of the two. Let's knock it out real fast with your Leafage attack!" Romaine lifted her hands in the air as leaf-like masses of swirling green energy began to gather around her. Then she thrust her arms forward, and sent the storm of leaves flying toward the blue tadpole Pokemon.

Charlie had been minding their own business, but the sudden squirting of the appearing Staryu certainly got their attention. They hadn't been planning on battling or catching any Pokemon here, but who were they to skip out on the chance to find something rare. Although they weren't entirely sure how rare a Staryu might be.

Not knowing what had caused the sudden reaction of the two water types, they were a little hesitant at first, as another trainer was also seemingly targeted. But she looked to them and asked for some help, so they nodded along. "Sure thing, I'll lend a hand." Charlie nudge Erupit, who was still at their side and she looked up at her trainer.

"Okay Erupit, first battle. Let's see how you do, but this should be pretty easy for you." Trixie was targeting the Poliwag, so Charlie got to deal with the Staryu. "Get that starfish with a Giga Drain!"

The Roserade gracefully walked out onto the rocks, standing alongside Trixie's Treecko. She raised one flowery hand, and shot out tendrils of glowing green energy towards the Staryu. Even if it was fast and more powerful, she was strong, and this would hopefully heal up whatever damage she might take in the fight.

Trixie either felt she knew Charlie well enough to trust they would help, or felt confident enough in her own pokemon to be able to handle two opponents, when she only sent one out to face them.
The staryu blinked with its red core and seemed pleased, while the poliwag, which had hid behind its bigger companion when Romaine appeared, peeked out hopefully, perhaps they had a chance now it had such strong partner? It took a step forward and out in the open.

Charlie stepped over and gestured for Erupti to join the fray. Hiyah! The staryu said and gestured at Erupti to step back while it blinked annoyed. It hadn't challenged them and they weren't invited, this was not what the staryu had quickly planned when it had talked the poliwag into joining it. This nullified their advantages!
Erupti didn't seem like she was going to step back and the starfish pokemon whacked one of its arms down sharply and pointed it at the roserade. A blast of water shot out and the staryu's arm whipped up from the recoil, the water hit Erupti straight in the stomach and sent her crashing into the rough rocks around her. "Hiyah!" It repeated, making it clear it wanted her to stay out of this and turned to look back at Romaine.

To call the batch of leaves a full storm would be to exaggerate a bit, they whirled around, skillfully avoiding the staryu and blasted the poliwag back into the water, where it disappeared under the surface.
The staryu turned half as if it looked back but then pointed at Romaine, "Hiyah!" It declared and looked to be readying another gun like water guns, when Erupti had fought her way back up on her feet, and the staryu staggered from the unexpected attack which drained a lot of its energy. Erupti felt as good as new after that, perhaps with a hint of sea salt taste in her mouth.

With two Grass-types versus two Water-types, the battle should have been going well. At least that was what Trixie expected until the Staryu landed a surprisingly strong hit that knocked her partner's Roserade back into a rock. Fortunately Romaine was able to deal one just as good back, sending the Poliwag flying with the energy from the leaves. It landed into the water with a splash and soon drifted out of sight.

"One down! You gonna be okay?" Trixie asked Charlie as the Roserade got back onto her feet. With the tendrils of energy she sent out, she soon seemed almost as good as new, while the Staryu was much the worse for wear. Even with how strong the initial hit had been, it seemed like Erupit had gotten the better of the exchange.

"It won't be long now. Romaine, hit it with Leafage again!" The Treecko repeated the attack that had been so successful last time, only now it was aimed at the star-shaped Pokemon's jeweled belly. A flurry of leaves swirled through the air around it, poised to slice with their unnaturally sharp edges.

With the poliwag out of the way and two grass types, there really wasn't a challenge or much to learn from it. The trainer's didn't seem to have it easy with communicating with each other either, but that happened sometimes, that the conversation didn't just roll right away.
Charlie seemed to think it was enough and that Trixie would be more than capable of handling the remaining ninja-words-shouting staryu on her own, so they wandered off again, at least Erupti learned a thing or two from the short encounter. If nothing else, then that water types were rarely any match for grass types, especially not when they teamed up.

Erupti finished off the poliwag and grows +3 levels to [Lv 11]!

While it was now down to one vs. one, it's partner had been removed faster than you could blink an eye, and it was hurt, it didn't took away any of the staryu's fighting spirit. "Hiya!" It shouted out again whipping one of its arms up and down, it leaped forward and began spinning wildly around itself, turning into a living ninja star and slammed into the treecko, sending her stumbling back.
She was quick to answer it and sent leaves flying at the still spinning staryu knocking it outcourse and crashing into the nearest pool with a huge splash. It floated a bit in the surface before it slowly sank while releasing a lot of bubbles.

What Romaine would learn from this very short and easy encounter was hard to say, but she learned enough to feel a strong surge of power run through her, prodding her to evolve into a better version of herself.

Romaine succeeded in chasing off the staryu and grows +3 levels to [Lv 17]!
She can learn Quick Guard if she forgets another move!
She also gains +1 Happiness! (+1)

Faster even than the Treecko was the Staryu, which was not going to let itself just get knocked out without a fight. It spun through the air like a ninja star and crashed into Romaine, but it was no match for the flurry of leaves that whipped through the air to meet it. They crashed into the Staryu, sending it flying in the other direction, where it flopped hard into the water. A trail of bubbles was the only thing left to mark its passing before it sank down out of sight.

Romaine felt a surge of power after the fight. Despite taking a hit, she seemed to come back even stronger. She spread her arms and looked skyward as her entire being glowed with a white light, taking on a larger shape and sprouting leaf-like blades from her arms. When the light faded, Trixie was standing before the newly evolved Grovyle, who looked something like a ninja herself.

"That's awesome!" the trainer grinned. She was definitely going to have to report this one back to Professor Elm! Romaine did a few stretches and flexes to test out her new muscles, feeling a lot more agile than before. Her ability to sense and intercept attacks seemed even sharper now. Even Hook saluted, respecting newfound power when he saw it.

With the Water-type Pokemon defeated, there was no reason for Trixie to hang around any more. She waved farewell to Charlie and started heading back to the beach where the survivors were gathered.
