Name: Archie Connors
Age: 16
Gender: Boy
Trainer Type: Trainer
Hometown: New Bark Town
Appearance:
Archie stands at an average 5'10", with somewhat pale skin and dark hair. However, with his attire, that is not what anyone remembers. Wearing a massive red cape that he sometimes completely wraps himself in, vampire-style, as well as massive black shades, Archie's style is all about flare and style. His signature shades flare up at the ends into stars, and stretch far beyond his face, only further accentuated by his small features. Particularly his nose, which is a sore subject for him. If he does take off his glasses, one might see his brown eyes and bushy eyebrows, but that would take a serious disruption. Underneath the cape, Archie wears a purple outfit, with casual slacks and a matching purple sweater. He wears black gloves with the fingers cut out, mostly but style, though there is some practicality. Since he has limited motor skills, he needs the slightly better touch. He throws fuzzy yellow leg warmers over heavy black boots to make an overall very warm outfit. While he's technically from Johto, he dresses as if he's used to Alola weather, always a little too warm for what the weather would call for. His hair is styled at the sides to be like his star glasses. It certainly takes a lot of gel, every morning.
Personality:
Archie throws on a very over-the-top energy, with massive body movements for every gesticulation. In particular, he tries to put on a personality all about "flair". He likes to hyper-emphasize a very carefree, brash, and arrogant persona. In particular, this persona comes out in anything trainer-related, like official league battles. He really, purposefully, intentionally, wants to get under an opponent's skin. While some might think there's strategy to it, it's really just part of what Archie wants to prove (see Goals). The performance is only partly an act, because he's always at least a little snarky and sardonic. His deep impatience actually gets worse outside battle. Underneath it, though, Archie is very caring, especially for others that are in a similar situation to him. He doesn't want anyone to get their dream crushed, as much as he seems to melodramatically make it out that his own was. Under the spite and charades, he's a good kid trying to have a fun journey.
History:
Archie was raised all his life in New Bark Town, and seeing all the new trainers, he of course wanted to be one, too. He talked with many, and watched many more have their first battles. Some of them, he would see on TV, taking on Gym Leaders and the like, and his excitement only grew. So, of course, he wanted to be a trainer, desperately. His parents, who both started their own journeys late, encouraged him to wait, even offering to let him borrow their Pokemon when he did to "make up for lost time".
But even for a kid, Archie was impatient. One day, when he was 9, he couldn't wait any longer. Archie grabbed his mom's Tauros, and ran up to the closest gym town he could think of: Blackthorn City. Fancying himself a trainer, Archie rushed into the gym, demanding a battle.
And it went just how you expect. Clair is a difficult opponent for any trainer, but an inexperienced 9-year-old who had never been in a formal battle, with, like, a level 30 Tauros. Clair's Dragonair decimated the Tauros, and taught Archie an important lesson. She thought the lesson was "A Pokemon Master must be steadfast, responsible, and disciplined, otherwise they will hurt the partners closest to them", but with the patronizing tone, the lingering defeat, and the overall weight of the situation, all Archie got was "the Pokemon League sucks". Not in a "I don't want to take them on", way, but in a "I want to prove her wrong", way.
So bitter, jaded, and certainly no longer offered any of his parent's Pokemon when he eventually would set out, Archie waited out the days patiently until his journey. He studied all he could, ready to take on Gym Leaders with strategy and a sheer abrasiveness that would leave them cursing his name while he walked out with his badge. Now he's ready to set out, and he's here for action.
Goals:
Archie wants to undermine the idea that a Pokemon Master must be steadfast, responsible, and disciplined, as a sort of mental revenge against Claire and the rest of the league that he lumps in with her.
Other Info:
I'm hoping that his general trajectory in terms of "arc" is realizing that he's actually becoming the steadfast, disciplined, and responsible trainer through his journey that he pretends not to be, as much as he pretends otherwise.
