The fog whirled around and quickly made the trip a little bit spooky since it shielded well what was around them and the sheer drop right beside them was keenly in their mind. You never grow too old to be a bit paranoid and feel that something watches you, or have an imagination warning you that something could come racing out at you and push you over the edge! Of course a lot of things could do that as well if there were no fog, but then you could at least pretend you could try dodge it. The other option was to leave the cliff edge but to be honest, Astrid felt safer knowing where it was rather than risking stepping over the edge by accident later on. Astrid eyes the staryu in front of her and the white wall which it seemed to constantly walk into, "it is not making much of a difference during the day," she mumbled to herself and the staryu turned halfways to perhaps "look" back at her. It blinked a bit with its core but didn't slow down and just trotted on after the wingull. Speaking of the white bird, it had disappeared completely in the fog and Astrid hadn't heard it for some time either. Something flapped past them above but Astrid frowned as she narrowed her eyes trying to see what it was. It sounded like there were two so, unless it had gotten company it probably wasn't the wingull.
Something shuffled under the trees and among the flowers but Astrid and her pokemon never saw anything else than a shadow and some waving flowers left behind. Then something emerged from the greys as they moved towards it and a brown and very round bird became visible just as it was gulping down a worm. Astrid's mouth fell agape. "It's a pidgey! My goodness you are fat!" She exclaimed and chuckled and then looked closer at it, "is it fat or is it just build like this?" She looked around in the fog hoping to spot more pidgeys and see if this was the only one or if they were all like that around here. "They will love it back home," the old woman said and determined found a pokeball to let out a spewpa. "Alright Badri, I need your help. Go say hello to the birdy over there and see if it can't be convinced to come with us," she said with a mischievous smile.
Badri puffed himself up and bravely waddled over to the pidgey whom he looked up and down calculating. "Greetings round one! How are you this fine grey day? Finding enough to eat?" He asked politely and would bend the top of his body as in a nod. "I'll to straight to the point, would you like to explore the world outside of this ridge and come with us? I will prove to you we can keep your safe," he explained and backed off a bit before he released his stunning spores.

The shadows that loomed through the dense fog caused the small bird’s eyes to widen in alarm. Sure, its friends had promised it that nothing on the ridge could harm it. That didn’t mean that it stopped worrying throughout it all. Something moved in the gentle wind and rapped with a soft beat against the base of a large tree. Long, thin black shadows like nails stretched out from an even taller shadow and seemed to almost wrap itself around the other tree, scratching at its bark with the soft, eerie melody. “I-I’m not afraid!” The wild bird puffed up, though the shaking terror in its voice belied its own words. “I-I can take you o-on!” It huffed! When Badri appeared the bird squawked loudly and flapped its wings so hard that several smaller, loose feathers fell out and spun in the air in a hurry. It rolled a bit in the grass and tumbled about. Caused by its own rotundness and exertion, the Pidgey began to roll across the ground while screaming at the top of its lungs. It couldn’t seem to figure out how to stop! It bounced up into the air after hitting a small rock in the ground and fell on top of Badri with a powerful oomph! Immediately, the Pidgey would rock itself back and forth until it could roll right off of the polite bug. “Oh…no. Oh, dear! Terribly sorry about that!” It chuckled, finding Badri to be of no immediate threat and finding itself much too full to even think about eating him. “It’s hard to control my own movements sometimes…ya know?” It giggled. When Badri spoke, Pudgy Pidgey flapped its wings excitedly. Of course it was finding plenty of food to eat! This was a bird’s paradise at the top of the ridge! Even if the shadows that loomed in the distance had spooked it, the Pidgey had never truly known of danger a single day in its life! “Oh, there’s a smorgasbord of food up here!” Pidgey giggled and gestured through the dense fog to placed Badri couldn’t possibly see that lurked all around them. “I have my pick of…ack! Uf! Oof!...bugs! Why would I ever want to leave? Ack! Oof Oof! Uf!” Pidgey began coughing very loudly and covered its mouth with one wing. "Whoa! Watch out!" Badri shouted warningly as the bird came tumbling down. "Umph!" It escaped him when it landed on top of him, but at least he broke its fall and it was decent enough to apologize afterwards as well. "No wonder with your stature," he mumbled annoyed to himself but wasn't neither mean or stupid enough to say that very loud, hopefully the bird didn't hear him. Badri looked thoughtfully at the pidgey when it asked why it never wanted to leave, "well, you don't have to worry about rolling over the edge, or can you fly?" He asked and looked at its heavy looking body and tiny wings. "There are.. plenty of bugs on the outside world too, and he humans has all kinds of foods which are much more tasty," he added, feeling kind of guilty selling his kin as a tasty treat, but it looked like the way to this Pidgey's heart definitely was through its stomach. "What do you say? Humans has some of the most tasting foods you can ever imagine! They have some who spent their whole day making the perfect food for others! And they have soft cushions too! Much softer than any leaves or tree you can find here, really! You couldn't dream about anything better than that!"
Suddenly Ruby pushed Badri aside harshly and blinked intently and insistingly with its core in a very specific pattern right in the pidgey's face. It was clearly trying to tell it something but unless Pidgey spoke staryu-ian it probably would have a hard time understanding what it was trying to convey. "Hey! What did you do that for?!" Badri protested to Ruby who just kept blinking at the pidgey, "I don't know what its doing, are you alright?" He called to the pidgey, if Ruby had destroyed their chances befriending the bird he was going to regret it! Badri had put himself in danger by approaching a predator of him just to talk and he was not pleased it that hard work would be flipped out the window just like that.
Astrid squinted and turned her head up and down like an owl as she tried to see through the fog, in the end she tried to carefully walk closer. If the Pidgey was calm and she had a chance to approach she would and would offer it a pokeball. Badri would then be ready to explain all the comfort the ball could offer and really talk it up as a great thing. If Pidgey did not see interested or was too agitated for a talk and join freely, Astrid would simply chuck the ball at it instead and hope for the best.

The Pudgy Pidgey plopped off and fluffed up its feathers worryingly. Had it seriously hurt the small bug Pokemon? Pidgey hobbled over on its tiny pigeon-toed feet and pressed its body up against the side of Badri’s body to try and support the small chrysalis back up on his feet. “Again, terribly sorry about that little one!” Pidgey explained and began plucking random feathers off its body as it preened itself. It had heard Badri’s muttering but it didn’t quite understand what he was going on about. For one, Pidgey hadn’t ran into many Pokemon beyond others like itself, so it had no need to worry about its rather round form. For another, Badri really didn’t explain what he meant in his statement, either. “There’s a buffet here every day!” Pudgy Pidgey instead explained and stretched its wings out wide at its side to gesture towards its home. Badri continued on and questioned Pidgey’s ability of flight. The bird stared up at the open air around it and then back at Badri all the same. It had never flown, and it had never seen another Pidgey fly in all of its life. Did Pidgey fly? It was a bedtime story that its parents had told to it at night when it was a young hatchling to get it to settle down and go to sleep. But Pidgey had never expect it to be true. “We’re ground birds, us Pidgeys on this Ridge. Pidgey just simply don’t fly.” The Pudgy Pidgey explained firmly with a smile and even flapped its wings uselessly while hopping on the tips of its feet to try and prove its point. When the Staryu pushed its friend out of the way, the Pudgy Pidgey gasped and jumped backwards on the tips of its feet. It rolled across the ground once more from moving too fast and rolled about in the grass once more, struggling through the paralysis to get back up on its feet. “Oh my, I’m so clumsy!” It laughed and shook its head firmly before turning away while ruffling up its feathers. Though, when the Pokeball was offered Pidgey turned away and shook its head. “Those other bugs sound very tasty…but I like my home here. Why would I leave?” It explained. When Astrid tossed the ball at the small brown feathered bird instead, it whipped up a powerful gust of air to knock the ball far away with a large huff. “I’m terribly sorry, new friends, but I do believe I said no!”Catch? Badri froze when the pidgey came and pressed itself up against him, he was neither used to closeness and especially not to have a bird this close to him. All his instincts screamed against it and wanted him to fight and escape, but he was a civilized pokemon who had had a decent upbringing and was going to spread joy to sick children. He was not going to succumb to his feral tendencies, especially not with his mother around. "So.. you don't want to see something else?" He said slowly as he tried to collect his thoughts again and ignore the predator who was sitting right beside him, and could use its scary sharp beak on him easily enough. He shook his heads, "no, pidgeys are certainly flying, the ones I have seen. I don't think I have ever seen a bird bound to the ground." He thought back to when he had been out playing as newly hatched but all birds he had seen had been flying.
Ruby obviously didn't get any reactions on its flashing and paused and took a step back when Astrid came over and offered the pokeball to the pidgey. As she didn't understand its refusal and it didn't willing accepted to jump into the pokeball, she decided to loop it at it and it was promptly blown away. She didn't hear it hit the ground and the only thing further out behind her was the empty air. "I am certainly never getting that pokeball back," the old woman said to herself with a smile. A krabby at the bottom of the ridge was lucky the pokeball got smashed on the rocks beside it.
"Because.. because the world has so much to offer? You're not interested in living in luxury and try to eat other things than bugs?" Badri said rather desperately, "or get to fly? Wouldn't that be awesome to try?" He did all he could to try think of things which could catch its attention and convince it to come with them. "There is the tv which is really entertaining and you can also meet all sorts of pokemon and get lots of friends. Isn't it getting boring when nothing new is happening?" He blabbered. Ruby didn't have that sort of qualms or perhaps it was offended of Pidgey's refusal of their offer or that it didn't 'answer' it. Without warning he blasted water at it for one reason or another.
Astrid watched the pidgey for a bit as she wondered what the gust meant. "Does it even know what a pokeball is?" she mused out loud, "Badri, could you please tell it what it does?" The spewpa sent her a glance, "the pokeball is really cozy and nice, its the best place to relax and sleep after having filled your belly," he said as he tried to sell the deal. Egil chuckled croakingly from where he was watching. Astrid decided the pidgey probably didn't know what the pokeball was for and that it had just thought she had thrown some random thing at it and therefore batted it away. She flicked another pokeball at it and hoped it would accept joining them.

Pidgey lifted one of its feet and scratched behind its head thoughtfully. It felt good to scratch itself, especially when parts of its body itched randomly. It’s life was so peaceful on top of the ridge that it couldn’t understand the urge some Pokemon had driven into them to see all that there was to see beyond the home that they had been born into. “I’d never considered the notion before.” Pidgey admitted thoughtfully with a hum on the tip of its tongue. “What do you suppose is out there? I’m sure you’ve seen it all! Right?” It questioned Badri with wide, thoughtful eyes. Why would they try to invite it on an adventure, if they hadn’t already seen it all, anyways? Ruby splashed Pidgey with a powerful jolt of water that caused the bird to spin around to fluff up its feathers! Sure, it had been many moons since the last time that Pudgy Pidgey had taken a bath. But that was no reason to shoot the poor thing with water! It wasn’t like Pudgy Pidgey stunk or anything! The bird twisted its head around and sniffed at its own body to try and get a whiff. And though birds weren’t known for their keen sense of smell, Pidgey couldn’t smell a single thing wrong with itself! “Why’d ya do that? I’m not due for a bath for quite some time!” It protested, puffing itself up as it kicked at the ground with its sharp talons and sent a pile of sand in Ruby’s direction, slapping the Staryu against the gem in the center of its body. After some time, though, Pidgey hummed more thoughtfully as it came around to the idea. If the Pokeball was really cozy and there were even tastier things that it hadn’t experienced out there, what could it hurt? “Hmm…I am interested in all this delicious food you keep promising me!” Pidgey nodded its head and turned to the strange red-and-white device. “There are no predators inside the Pokeball, either?” Pudgy Pidgey asked apprehensively, before pressing the center of the ball with its beak. Within the flash of a bright burst of red light, Pudgy Pidgey disappeared inside of the Pokeball, which fell to the ground and rocked around for several minutes. It wouldn’t take too long for Astrid to hear the familiar ding of a successful capture. SUCCESS!! Ruby gained 3 levels. Ruby increased to Level 13!Ruby is trying to learn Rapid Spin!
