Money can't buy love, but can it buy me? It said so on TV.

"We're... we're RICH!"
Trixie couldn't believe her eyes. The number that stared back at her from the top of the Johto Lottery billboard exactly matched the number on her ticket. She looked down at April, grinning from ear to ear. "Do you have any idea what this means?"
April gulped. She did not like it when Trixie made that expression.

"And today, we'd like to introduce a very special guest," DJ Mary said from her desk at the Radio Tower. "Let's all welcome the first and only Grand Prize winner of the National Johto Lottery... Trixie Hayworth!" A canned soundbite of audience clapping was played as Trixie entered the room and took her seat across from the celebrated hostess.
"So, Trixie, the question that's on everyone's mind. What are you going to do with the money?"
"Before we start, I'd like to say something to my parents," Trixie replied. DJ Mary smiled, no doubt expecting a thank-you acknowledgement for the family that paved the path to this young trainer's road to success.
"Take that, mom and dad!" DJ Mary's expression turned to a quizzical frown.
"You thought I'd never get anywhere without your help, well look at me now. Told you I didn't have to follow in your footsteps to strike it rich. I'm gonna be living the good life now. Without you." Her rant over, she turned back to the announcer. "Where were we again?"
"Ah..." The radio deejay took a moment to re-compose herself. "We're all eager to know what you'll spend the lottery winnings on! Any great plans?"
"First, I'm going to make a big donation to the Mizuma Education Center. If you haven't heard of it, they're a Pokemon sanctuary that also specializes in educating people about Dark-type Pokemon. The owner is a friend of mine. I want them to name a playground after me!
"Next, I suppose, I should get an estate of my own. The Nursery is nice, but growing Pokemon need a bigger home than this. We're gonna have parties, and spray paint contests -- and rock music in the garage! I gotta put together a housewarming! After building the house, of course.
"Third, I wanna fund some expeditions to go catch some of the really rare Pokemon. Anyone around here know where to find a Deino? How about a Pawniard? I've even heard legends about a foursome of Dark-type Pokemon from the Paldea region... said to be cursed artifacts or something. If I could even just meet one of those..." She trailed off. "Well, that would be what the Master Ball is for, I suppose."
"How exciting!" DJ Mary said. "I'm sure that will be quite an adventure. But let's backtrack a bit. Could you tell us briefly about your background, and what first inspired your love for Dark-types..."

The decorations were torn. Furniture was toppled. Scattered bowls lay on the floor, covered in stains of golden Berry juice and crushed Rare Candies. But Trixie didn't care.
"What a night!" she said to Zedd. The Porygon-Z was staring up at a glittering ebony disco ball, swirls in their eyes. Trixie had invited everyone and anyone from Goldenrod City to her bash, and danced the night away to heart-pumping rock music, courtesy of the Red Hot Chilan Berries and Nine Inch Ninetails. Only the finest and rarest ingredients were served at the buffet. The decor had to be appropriate, too - black walls and carpet, contrasted by neon lights. Trixie's private bedchamber was the only room in the manor left untouched by chaos.
She idly flipped through her phone until she found her Pokedollar credit app. "Eh, still plenty left over to hire a cleaning service."

With Trixie's lottery winnings, it was no trouble at all to buy up a ton of Pokemon for her Pokedex, level them up with Rare Candies, and send them off to Professor Elm to study. For her diligent efforts, the Professor had rewarded her with a free trip to the Safari Zone! But something unexpected had happened along the way. A strange fish creature rose out of the waters while Trixie was on the ferry to Cianwood. Despite being a water-dwelling creature, its fins and body appeared to be composed of a shimmering flame.
Trixie had battled it valiantly, but even her Hydreigon was almost knocked out by a well-placed Inferno from the legendary creature. It left her with no choice. "I will capture you!" she declared stubbornly. She retrieved the ball, raised her arm back to throw, and--
Froze.
She couldn't move. The fish's eyes bore into her soul. Unable to help herself, she could only stare into those eyes, the beads around them circling round and round, as the world fell away...

Much to her disappointment, Trixie woke up.
