It was really humiliating and some other trainer might have gotten angry at Smokey, Lei certainly would and Smokey would quickly have regretted her behavior, but Aglaia was not Lei and she thought that all actions must have a cause. That didn't keep her from being afraid of the big and intimidating pokemon, or the ones with sharp points like Wystan in the beginning, sometimes the reason could just be that they wanted to dominate the ones around them or defend a territory. No matter the reason they could be really dangerous and that part was Aglaia still working on, or rather working on trusting her pokemon to keep her safe and not freeze up when encountering something frightening.
"This is hard," Aglaia mumbled as she looked down at the hole, her knees began to protest so she stood up again and stretched to ease the pain and looked around. Fortunately there weren't that many scary looking pokemon in the National Park, there were Beedrils and Pinsirs of course but beedrills at least didn't seem so scary anymore. The young trainer was keenly aware that even a weak looking bug could do some serious damage to a human if you didn't stay alert, which was why she looked around to be sure there weren't anything sneaking up upon her.
There wasn't, a couple of butterfrees were flapping over some trees and Aglaia wondered if she could get Smokey to challenge one of them, whenever she returned. "What am I going to do if she is still down there when the competition ends?" Aglaia asked herself worried and began to think hard about the options, if nothing else she would have to forfeit the competition but that was alright as she didn't expect to win anything, that was not why she was here, but it would really be embarrassing having to go tell the judges that she couldn't find her own pokemon.
Excited shouts got her attention, a man threw a sport ball at a sewaddle, which made Aglaia smile. She had gotten one of those in the earlier Bug Catching Contests, she wondered how it was doing now. But that wasn't the reason for the shouting. Another man seemed to.. be attacked by his own pokemon? He ran away from the spores that his pokemon threw at him and then he threw a sport ball at something which Aglaia was too far away to see.
Still that wasn't the reason either, several of the bug catchers had gathered around yet another man, and the purple pinsir he was facing. The young trainer frowned, pinsir was one of the more rare one she knew but that didn't usually attract so much attention, did it? She would probably have realized that it was shiny and why it made it so sought after, but she didn't.
"Hippo!" Smokey called out to her lent trainer and Aglaia spun around and sighed a breath of relief when she saw the hippopotas. "Po potas!" Smokey called again urgently, the trainer needed to come over before the cocoon woke up.
Aglaia came over and looked surprised at the silcoon, "you.. you have found something to battle! And.. its asleep?" she asked quietly and surprised, then she pulled out the paper from Lei and confirmed that it too was one on the wanted list. Aglaia hesitated a moment and then shrugged, one of them were as good as the other, and she had a feeling that caterpies would be easier to find than silcoons, so she pressed a sport ball against the sleeping cocoons side and then dropped the ball. She was not going to hold it while waiting to see if it was successful, what if it jumped out again?

The sport ball wiggled surprisingly much when you knew that the pokemon inside was sleeping, perhaps the silcoon had a feeling that it wouldn't like the trainer it was destined to? Aglaia would be a nice trainer for sure, but Lei was another matter and Aglaia was here on her behalf and wishes, as she herself had little reason to participate in these now her grandfather hadn't ordered her to any more. Why would she go to a competition she wasn't interested in winning (any more), trying to catch pokemon she didn't need and doing training which she didn't want? Lei were very persuading though and Aglaia had been paid well which she was pleased for as she needed all the money she could scrape together to start her shop at one point. It also gave her something to do while she waited for Dorthea to be ready for them to continue together, she wondered briefly how long her grandfather was going to be alright with them not having returned with the result of their latest task from him, but until now he hadn't called them demanding an answer.
The sport ball confirmed the capture loud and clear and Aglaia grinned as she stepped over to pick it up. The sport ball containing the caterpie burst open and the bug raced off into the tall grass.
"Popo!" Smokey called out and looked expectantly at Aglaia who this time understood and kneeled in front of her and patted her head. "Well done Smokey! I'm impressed you have found it so well hidden it was," Aglaia praised and the hippopotas lifted her head as she closed her eyes and sucked in the praise like a thirsty plant.
It was over all too soon and Aglaia stood up again, "and here I worried you had run off for a moment, but you were just being so great and finding a good pokemon for us to catch." Smokey gave a pleased court nod as acceptance to this praise and was ready for more. Aglaia didn't doubt that Smokey hadn't really been helping her, their team work clearly was rather rocky but from what Lei had explained Smokey worked well for her, so the young trainer was sure that was why Smokey had found the silcoon.
Little did she know that Lei hadn't really used Smokey at all yet, and her reassurance of Smokey's obedience was nothing but empty words and bragging.
Aglaia looked towards the entrance to the park, where the officials and the onlookers waited while the competition was running. There was a big countdown so that the participants could see how long they had left and it was getting close to the end.
Smokey looked a bit annoyed that not only had the praising stopped but Aglaia wasn't even paying her any attention anymore.
"You want another battle, right?" Aglaia asked the ground type who rolled her eyes and when she saw Aglaia's uncertain expression chose to nod as well to make it clear that yes, of course she wanted another battle.
Aglaia pointed towards the entrance and Smokey looked offended until the human said what she had on her mind, "the time is running out unfortunately but we should be able to get one more battle in if we hurry!"
Smokey jumped up and called for Aglaia to follow as she rushed into the tall grass to find something to battle, anything.
The trainer glanced around and was relived to see that she didn't have anyone's attention anymore, no more onlookers if she screwed up. Most of them were gathered around the battle with the pinsir, that for some reason was more interesting to people than trying to battle more pokemon themselves.

Smokey was going to make sure she was going to get that one last battle if there really weren't anymore left in the competition. It was a stupid idea she thought, if she wanted to show off her battle skills more she should be allowed to do so, as much as she wanted.
As she rushed through the grass, it swayed around her, brushing her side and once again she did not see all the metapods which she pushed aside, their green cocoons making them look like the grass and Smokey dismissed them as such without a second glance.
"Hippopotas!" She shouted out her challenge and then it came. Not from the grass but descending from above in all its glory and beauty. It was a normal beautifly but pretty indeed, Smokey paused to look at it critically, could such pretty thing even battle?
"This one.. is going to be tricky," Aglaia said slowly and Smokey turned to stare at her in disbelief. This overly painted dainty pair of wings should be a challenge for her? HER?! That was outrageous.
Of course the hippopotas could easily knock out the pretty butterfly but since Aglaia had other plans it would require some handywork and patience. The trainer hoped they had enough time to pull it off.
"Lei doesn't have that one and its harder to find than the silcoon," granted, they could just evolve the silcoon and be over with it but Aglaia had a feeling Lei wanted to have as little work as possible with this, and then the evolved would be better.
She grinned to the hippopotas, "are you up for a challenge?" Smokey blinked and huffed, still not seeing how this is going to be hard at all.
"You need to be aware of not hitting too hard, so crunch is out of the picture, start putting it to sleep and then we'll wait it out," Aglaia decided and Smokey puffed herself up. Of course she was so strong the butterfly didn't stand a chance, but she could be soft it needed.
She yawned deeply as Aglaia found a sports ball and readied herself to wait for it to fall asleep. Smokey scraped the ground impatiently and then decided to try catch it in the whirling sand with a Sand Tomb, to make sure it didn't escape. She was going to be in for a surprise there though.

The sand whirled around as always when Smokey was in battle, just the way she liked it. She concentrated and formed some of it to target the flying bug and surround it and trap it, making sure it wasn't going anywhere. Big was her surprise when the Beautifly simply beat its wings a couple of time and counteracted it without any trouble at all.
The sleep it couldn't avoid though and a moment later it dumped down on the ground unceremoniously and began snoring away.
"Perfect, well done Smokey, now here's to hoping the sport balls will work!" Aglaia said pleased as everything had went according to plan, or almost. Smokey had acted like the absorb didn't bother her, and the poison sting afterwards probably hadn't done much damage either, but why Smokey had chosen to try use Sand Tomb was beyond her, it was ground typed so of course it wouldn't work against a flying type like this one.
It didn't matter, it hadn't hurt anything and now it was all up to luck.
"Be ready Smokey, who knows how long it will be asleep," she warned and looped the first of the sport balls at the Beautifly.

Sleepy buggy slumbered peacefully inside of its new home. So sleepy was it slumbering that it didn't even fight back. Happy buggy is now captured buggy. But will it stay captured buggy?

The first sport ball hit the sleeping bug and Aglaia crossed her fingers as the ball began to shake back and forth.
"Come on, come on," she mumbled, it would be a great pokemon to Lei with, she couldn't help but feeling a bit proud that they had managed to find something a bit more special and hard to find than the original caterpie.
Smokey too was hoping but not for the ball to work, she wanted the butterfly to come back out so she could test what had gone wrong with her sand, it was a grave failure and even though it hadn't meant anything today in this battle, it could in the future.
To Aglaia's joy and Smokey's annoyance, only one sport ball was needed to capture the slumbering beautifly.
Before Aglaia even moved towards picking up the newly caught pokemon, the last one burst open and the silcoon was laying motionlessly in the grass. Aglaia looked at it plussled for a few moments, "oh right, we better find you a hiding place," she said and after having pocketed the bug she was going to keep, she picked up the silcoon and found a fitting hiding spot for the silcoon in a dense tree.
They returned to the entrance where the evaluation was already going on, and she took advantage of it to check out what the others had gotten with her pokedex, and to see what pokemon they had brought themselves for today.
