This was worse than a thunderstorm. The dust was awful and bit at his face and clothes. Adrian just wanted to get through this route and to Azalea as fast as possible, which meant scurrying through route 32 and then through a cave. He'd probably backtrack later to actually hunt for pokemon or train, but for now, he just wanted to get out of this awful dust storm!
He covered his face with a cloth and even Buddy willingly stayed in her pokeball as he trudged onward out of Violet onto the grassy route. Now armed with the Zephyr Badge and a couple of pokemon he adopted from a center in town, he trekked down the path, trying to keep it in sight. He doubted many trainers or travelers were out, and he didn't blame them. Most pokemon probably were even keeping shelter from this mess.
But on and on he walked, trying to keep his stride long and his pace quick. It was hard to see and breathe. His skin itched a bit from the torrent of sand blown up by the wind. Adrian fought the ever present urge to cough as he sought the meager shelter of the cave system ahead.
Arceus above, he would be washing dirt out of his hair for days. And he'd probably never get all the sand out of his clothes. Alas, the life of a trainer...

Walking through the night, the battering sandstorm covered the sky and any stars and moon that would have been visible. The young trainer was essentially walking in the dark with a faint glimpse of the stars shining through it. Adrian was minding his own business covering his face when he would spotted another Pokemon also minding its own business. A lone Wooper was dancing and frolicking in the sandstorm like people would in the snow. "Wooper Woop!" It sung to itself like it was saying "Happy Sandmas!" It galloped its little legs and twirled in the air, singing the song of its favorite weather. The other Woopers didn't join it though since they prefer rain more. This one was in its own world compared to its peer. "Wooper Wooper Woop!" It hollered as it sung the Wooper special edition of "Sandy the Sandman"!

"Is that?" Adrian squinted. "A wooper?" He thought they were supposed to be blue? Then again, he wasn't real familiar with woopers. Maybe all the dust in the air was playing tricks on him. It was hard to see and perhaps the little mudfish just appeared off-colored to the naked eye. "...Guess I can try to catch it to see if it's normal or not."
But who...Braum maybe? It wouldn't be bothered by its moves or the dust?
He rubbed his eyes and threw out a ball, only to be a little disappointed in himself upon realizing he sent out the woefully underleveled Zag, his newly adopted zigzagoon. Well, he could switch out or just toss pokeballs. Might be faster to do that, and get everyone out of this dust.
Then again, the whooper seemed pretty content with its situation.
Zag looked around a little confused upon being sent out. This dust was all icky and itchy in its fur...
"You like this stuff?' he asked the whooper innocently. "Why? Does it not make your whole body itch?" Zag shook himself vigorously and sneezed as Adrian enlarged a pokeball...and threw it right for the funny looking whooper having fun in the dust storm.

As the poor, sand bleached Wooper continued to hum along to it's favorite holiday tune, it paid no attention at all to the red and white sphere heading right for it. By the time Wooper had any clue what was going on the Pokeball struck it right between the eyes as a bright flashing light sucked it inside. The ball then fell to the ground and paused for a second before it started to shake as Wooper finally stopped daydreaming and tried everything it could to escape. The Pokeball shook once as Wooper tried to fight for it's freedom and then a second time as the young Pokemon got more frantically desperate to stay free. After a third shake Wooper gave it everything it had to break free however it was not enough as right afterwards the Pokeball clicked shut. As the Wooper was now no longer a free Pokemon Zag could feel himself grow stronger without needing to launch a single attack. He even learned a new move as he started to cutely wag his tail having mastered Tail Whip to go along with his increased strength. Capture #1: 68% chance GzWVZp_d1-100Zag gained 3 levels and is now level 8. He learned Tail Whip. Shiny Wooper has been caught, please complete the following code. The ball bounced off the wooper and then, easy as could be, was caught. Zag looked very interested indeed at the whole affair. Whelp, at least that was easy? Adrian scooped the pokeball and tried to return Zag, but the raccoon seemed opposed, climbed him, and immediately buried himself in Adrian's coat. Well then. He had a travel buddy.
Hurriedly, he continued down the path until he at least got partial coverage in the cave. Adrian pulled out his phone and shined the light to better navigate in the dimmer light.
He was already regretting this choice to book it to Azalea in this awful weather. But he was already halfway there and quitting now made no sense whatsoever. So he bit his tongue and just kept keeping on. And he did his best not to trip over any rocks. Or walk face first into any bats. Caves in Kanto were infested with bats. People complained endlessly about them.
They were the magikarp of the cave systems, anywhere and everywhere and rather pitiful until fully evolved, at which point they were apparently quite impressive battlers.
"You comfy or looking for another battle where you don't gotta do anything?" Adrian asked, looking down at his coat, where Zag blinked innocently back up at him with beady black eyes.

With the jolly merry Wooper captured, Adrian continued his way toward Azalea City. With his Zigzagoon by his side, the young trainer entered the Union Cave to escape the ravaging sandstorm. Once into the cave, he was weary of the frantically flapping fluttering Zubats that would colonize and swarm the area. Instead, his right shin would bump into a rolling Geodude instead. It stopped and hissed angrily at the young man. "Do you mind? I am trying to get in line for Taylor Schist latest concert! You're in my way, and I need to write my name on a blank space to get a spot! If I don't get the ticket, I'll be upset missing the opportunity! And we'll have bad blood!" The rock type threw its hands in the air, angrily. Then, it flung some dirt and rocks at the human trying to shooed him away instead!

Adrian flailed as he nearly tripped over the geodude. As someone who had one in his backpack now, he didn't need to catch another. Zag leapt out his arms to confront the geodude playfully, all wiggles and excitement, but he was scooped up again quickly before he could get smooshed with rocks. Yeah. No.
"Buddy, use razor leaf please!" he tossed a pokeball and the ivysuar emerged in a flash. She squinted through the dust storm, but with a cry, she sent a flurry of sharp leaves at the rock in front of them.
"Zag...you are not really made for fighting rock-types, y'know?"
Zag licked his face and squirmed back into his coat with a happy chitter. Well, at least THAT was resolved for now. Once they were past this rock, he'd get the heck outta here and to Azalea so they could get out of this sand...he wasn't feeling ready for the bug gym yet, but the lack of trainers sorta made it easier to navigate the route? If one didn't care about getting dust and dirt and debris EVERYWHERE.

Everything happened so fast, the Geodude literally had no idea what was going on. It went from peacefully napping, to dealing with a yapping and barking Zigzagoon, to getting a face full of razor tipped leaves. All easily within the span of twenty seconds. The leaves hit hard, sending the Geodude rolling back before it collided with the side of the interior wall of the cave. Boy, it really hated grass type Pokemon. Always coming in here with their vines, leaves, and absorbing attacks. It was really hard being a wild rock type. The wild Pokemon had the faint notions of getting up off the ground and pounded some sense into the opponent, but the sweet bliss of fainted unconsciousness was much more inviting and the Geodude gave into the sweet feelings, casually fainting after but one hit from the second stage grass type Pokemon. Really, one should not have expected much more. But boy did the wild Pokemon sure try. The way forward was now clear for Adrian and his Pokemon, but the cave still seemed to stretch for quite a ways, which meant that more encounters of some kind or another were due to the trainer and his team. Buddy gains +1 level for her victory.

With that rock out of the way, Adrian hurried his whole party through the winding cave, dodging pokemon and trainers alike. He just wanted to get to the other side and out of this bad weather! No doubt he'd back track in the future to investigate the cave properly, but right now, he saw no use in loitering. There were places to be and Azaela was one of them!
Of course, he was nowhere near ready to face Bugsy, but he'd certainly scout out the area around the town and figure out what he'd need to do to prepare. He had high hopes that between Barry and his new geodude, recently hatched from an egg, he'd be able to squash his bug types, no problem!
With Buddy still out of her ball, following at his heels, and Zag in his arms, tucked into his coat, he scurried out of Union Cave and readied himself for what lay ahead of them.
