Team Notes: Kumaneko HP 30/60 | Ika HP 43/50 [36/43 before level up]. Healed paralysis in this post so should not have that anymore. Ghost Encounters: Cypress Rest
The eerie feeling that haunted Ika dug underneath her soft flesh. The small squid stared through the breaks in the trees in search of anything that might move. Though several creatures rushed through the canopies above, avoiding the area as they wandered further into its reach, they weren’t quite the things that seemed to unnerve her. “Why does everything feel…off?” Ika asked herself, floating carefully around the trees while watching her surroundings nervously. Kumaneko huffed underneath her voice, slashing her claws through tall weeds and thick brushes with ease. “Because these evil creatures lurk here!” She snapped firmly.
Mishu followed closely behind her Pokemon, pulling at the edges of her poncho. It kept the worst of the rains off her body. Though the rains soaked Kumaneko’s fur, causing it to press against the small bear’s body in matted patches. Ika seemed almost indifferent, perhaps because her squid-like form might have been more adapted to the wet terrain? Though she wasn’t part water so that didn’t fully make as much sense as Mishu tried to make. “We have to hurry if we want to save this little one.” Mishu commented softly underneath her breath as she hugged Chikorita against her chest, making sure to keep her hands wrapped firmly around the small Pokemon. “The toxins seem to be hurting Chikorita more.” She sighed softly.
Ika jumped as the shadows shifted, creating a strange light with glowing red eyes that seemed to follow them. What was lurking out there in the woods?! She froze as terror glued her to the spot, only able to shake herself into a more mobile form when Kumaneko snapped her fingers and growled loudly. “Demon!” Kumaneko’s voice raged above the loud thunders, shaking the treetops as large gusts of wind shook their branches and tugged them in different directions. “Show yourself! We are wise to your tricks! I won’t go down as easily as my friends!” Kumaneko challenged whatever was lurking between the foliage. It wanted to cause them pain and zap the lifeforce from them?! Then it would have to put in a lot of work to see that happen!
“Oh!” Mishu jumped back initially as Duskull appeared before them, careful to make sure she didn’t fall or lose her hold on Chikorita. Another ghost Pokemon? Were these strange ‘spirits’ just Pokemon that were terrorizing the forests around them? What made them out of this world, though? “Ika use Payback. Try your best, I’m sure you can handle this.” She turned her head to her small blue squid with her transparent mantle that showed the soft pink body inside. Ika’s eyes softened for a moment as she studied her opponent and floated forward, preparing for the fight she would inevitably endure. Both Mishu and Kumaneko seemed to think that battling was their only option. But was it?
“There’s another way.” Ika tried to plead with the ghostly apparition. Maybe there was another reason they were haunting the lands? “Why are you doing this? Bringing others pain won’t ease the pain you must be feeling yourself. What happened to cause you to do this?” Inkay tried to plead with Duskull as Kumaneko rolled her eyes and stepped to the side. Ika seemed to be a bit naïve about things which the small bear simply could not understand. Ika created large, dark rings in the air around her as she prepared to attack Duskull. Even though her heart tugged at her, she knew that she had to do her best to protect her loved ones and the sick Chikorita. If her words didn’t work, she would fire her attack at her opponent and hope she’d manage to hit it and scare it off.

The restless spirit remained silent throughout the brash words and posturing of the trainer and her Pokemon. It cared not for what they had to say about this situation or any situations really. To the spirit, they were in the forest when they shouldn't be. Some things really could be that simple in nature. Moaning slightly, the red eye of the Duskull continued to blaze harshly in the thunderstorm that poured down on them from above, a forever seeing eye with no blinks and no end in sight. Credit where it is do, Ika tried really hard for a peaceful conclusion to their current situation, unfortunately not everyone or everything is interested in such activity. Twin spheres appeared around the dark squid, crackling with energy. When they were released, they slammed into the Duskull, plowing the ghost into the muddy ground. After a few seconds, the glowing eye of the Duskull snapped open as the ghost shakily rose into the air, darkness and shadows streaming from its body. With a groan that sounded more zombiesh than ghostie, the shadows and ghost energy swirled for a few seconds before streaming forward, knocking Ika backwards. The night shade's strength was comparable to the strength of the ghost, and it gave a decent hit. Ika was quick to form more payback orbs and sent them forward, but the ghost seemed more prepared this time and was able to stay in the air. Its red eye started to glow a blue color and if Ika tried to form more Payback spheres, she would find that she was not able to summon them, at least for a little while. What would they do now? What was a bleeding heart to do? She stared at the lone red eye burning bright inside of the ghastly apparition’s form as it swayed from one empty socket to the other. Ika sighed softly when realization settled in that Duskull wasn’t apt to listen to reason, though her brain spurred with promises that if he only tried harder, logic and reason would settle between the folds. “Are you hurt?” The question was quiet and questioning. Searching for clues in the darkness of the other Pokemon’s soul. “Or hungry? Maybe just territorial?” She tried to understand, adding more sanity to the logic as time progressed.
“Ika please use Payback.” Mishu called out with a soft smile. Mishu was capable and skilled. She should have realized that calling out a repetitious move would prove less useful given the strange way that Duskull’s eye glew. Ika spun around in the air creating tiny wisps around her that sizzled into nothing before she could conjure her powerful attacks. What was happening? She tried harder, furrowing her brows together and biting her tongue as she put all her concentration into the move. More small black balls of energy not even the size of a penny formed around her and fizzled into nothing.
“I can’t…do it?” Sudden realization slammed into her like a ton of bricks. Ika’s large charcoal eyes widened in alarm as she turned with a loud gasp towards Duskull. “You…did this?” Why? After all she was trying to do to help this poor lost soul, why? Her heart ached for the possibilities that seemed lost on this spirit. It was anguished, reaching out to cause pain to those around it because of the pain it surely must have felt inside. At least, that’s what Ika seemed to think, trying to rationalize the abhorrent manner of this spirit whose manners remained wordless through the fray.
“What’s wrong?” Mishu tilted her head and stared incredulously at her Pokemon. Ika was struggling as she fought for dominance of her own attack. There was literature on how specific attacks would drain a Pokemon of their energy, requiring time to adequately charge back up before they could be used again. Mishu pondered to herself… was that the case here? Uhm…Mishu tried to think in the moment and recall the next plan of attack. She’d already laid out the best method and made up her mind. Think…. maybe… ah! “That’s ok, Ika, use Psybeam instead!” That’s it. They just needed to move to the next best plan of attack if the first one failed.
Ika nodded her head sadly as she searched within herself for a way to reach out this spirit. There must be some way she could help it…right? “I’ll try!” Ika shivered as she focused on her new attack. Her eyes began to glow as charcoal hues slowly bled crimson. Large red circles formed in the air around her and shot out of her eyes after her opponent through a large beam of light. How did this solve anything, though? How would this heal the hurting spirits? And if they weren’t healed first, would any of this matter in the end? Or would they keep haunting Ilex indefinitely? Questions that still remained unanswered for the poor squid.

The restless spirt's red eye was bright as it drifted closer to Ika. Closer. Closer. Whatever would they do now? Trainer and pokemon were both startled by their inability to use payback on the weary spirit. Closer. Closer. It let out a low groan as it reached forward and— PYSBEAM! —and was knocked back by a bright, dazzling light. A wail escaped before the ghost flickered in-and-out of sight. It was tired now. Maybe. Maybe it could rest for a time. Its dark body slowly faded, leaving behind its white skull face for a lingering second longer...then it too disappeared, the burning red orb of an eye the last trace remnant of its presence. There was the rumble of thunder and that red orb danced out of sight. Perhaps the ghost was at peace now. It would not attack Mishu in these parts of the woods again. But it was not wise to linger. Hurry now, trainer. Hurry on. The woods are haunted and the spirits are at your heels. They feel...they see...they sense...They know. So go Mishu. GO!
Wandering Spirit Duskull was defeated!Inkay gained +3 levels. Grew to lv 20. Inkay is trying to learn swagger. Forget a move and learn swagger?
