Why was the weather absolutely dreadful as of late?
Heatwaves into thunderstorms into dust storms into even more rain. He escaped one lung clotting, miserable trudge and found himself drenched. Urg. Well, at least getting to the pokemon center in Azalea wasn't too bad. But after trying to wait out the rain, he inevitably grew bored, especially with rumors swirling about of a rare pokemon spotted in the area. Something not local, but was apparently swarming. Trainers were searching for it and those that were successful reported seeing it only at night.
So here he was. With an umbrella in one hand, trudging through the rain and back into the grasses that separated Azalea and Union Cave. Thunder boomed overhead as rain slanted down in a harsh, white sheet. It was difficult to see except when flashes of lightning cut through the black of the sky.
Despite having a perfectly good pokeball to nap in, Flicker rested in his backpack, warm and constant. Apparently she found it cozy in there, regardless of whether or not there were eggs to watch. Buddy was also out of her ball, splashing through puddles, happy as a grass type could be. She sang cheerfully to herself, vines out and picking up every little stone and leaf she could.
At least it was literally impossible to get lost. The path was well marked.
"See anything, Buddy?" he called out over the pouring rain.
Buddy made a sound that easily translated to no.
"Maybe it was stupid to come out in this. Swear there's less pokemon than normal around here..." Adrian mumbled. When he checked the guide, he knew there were mankey and nidoran and poochyena native to this area. And some people spotted meditite. But as what he hunted wasn't even native, he could only go on word of mouth that they were even here.
Though, that said, this was a good opportunity to train up his pokemon. He brought along a lot of his lower level pokemon to train, each for a differing reason.
Queenie because she had the curious ability to gather honey and would one day evolve into vespiquen.
Igneous because he would no doubt make for a good counter to Bugsy's bug types once he was no longer a freshly hatched rock with no battle experience.
Zag because he just was so...well, enthusiastic about everything and was always picking up interesting things (more so than Buddy, who picked up flowers and sticks mainly).
Puff because he'd been raised up a bit at the nursery and he wanted to see what the little fairy type fluff ball could do.
And then of course, Flicker and Buddy were practically staples at this point. Buddy never left his side and Flicker often liked to hang out in his bag, regardless of whether or not he planned to use her in battle.
Each would play their part no doubt, but he'd need to figure out their strengths and weaknesses. He supposed he could have also brought along his spheal, but did he really need another level one pokemon on his team right now? Especially when he was possibly going to be out here a while, encountering higher level pokemon than even back in Violet?
With reliable Buddy as his standby, he figured he would be safe enough battling most things here. A meditite might be a problem, but hey, Queenie could shine there! Despite their wildly variable levels, there was plenty of type variety.
After a while of seeing nothing, he sighed and sought refuge under a tree (like one is not supposed to do during a storm). He then let out his other pokemon to just...experience the weather. Except for Igneous, that wouldn't be a great experiment.
Queenie seemed a little curious about the rain at first, but she quickly investigated the tree instead, sheltered by the leaves and branches. Zag joined Buddy in the puddles, splashing with tons of enthusiasm and making lots of noise as he ran about in circles. Puff was...more cautious, but it wasn't long before he joined Zag in play, bouncing about as Zag chased him. It was cute.
Especially when Buddy began to scoop the other two with her vines and toss them gently in the air before putting them down. It was a glorious game.
Adrian watched with fondness.
Whether they found this elusive cat or not, at least his pokemon were having a blast in this rain. He could only hope that the lightning stayed up in the clouds and didn't cause any troubles. It would be quite the day ruiner for anyone to be struck by it.
Queenie hummed as she came to rest on his shoulder.
He chuckled, "Not up for playing, eh? Guess I don't blame you for not wanting your wings to be all wet." She buzzed some more at the affection.

Adrian was not the only one to find the weather dreadful, although for wild pokemon on the route it was worse than just something you could complain about while drying up inside. They were stuck with it, and had to go on with their daily lives no matter what, and just handle what extra troubles it gave them. A lone male nidoran, who were currently living alone, had found his otherwise cozy nest flooded when the storm came in. He had tried to be foreseeing and had dug some drains for the water to run in and away from his nest, but someone had disagreed and found them too close to their nest, and had redirected it all to his. He had visited his neighbor and complained which had resulted in a squabble and argument but hadn't brought any solution. He now needed to find somewhere else to wait out the storm and then figure out in the morning if his nest was salvageble or if he would have to find another place to live. It was not easy being on your own, you had no one but yourself to rely on. The nidoran looked to the sky and blinked against the rain which poured down, then he shook his drenched fur to no avail and trotted on in the search for a dry spot to rest until morning. He paused to look at some pokemon who were jumping around awfully cheerful in this horrendous weather. It came trotting over and glared at them, "It's should be illegal to be so cheerful when others are suffering. Snowflakes, you have no clue what hardships life can bring, skipping around here like idiots while we other fight to just have a dyr nest to sleep in. Shame on you all! At least make yourself useful," he grumpled acidly, if he couldn't make his own situation better he could at least get others to suffer with him so he was not the only one. "Oh, neat, a nidoran!" Adrian knew those from Kanto. Not what he was looking for but, cool to see all the same. He fished in his pocket for his pokedex to check it out with as his pokemon stopped their splashing to watch him pass.
"You could always join us," Zag declared.
"That doesn't fix his not wanting to be wet problem."Buddy pointed out.
"Why doesn't he wanna get wet?" Asked Puff.
"Probably because he's cold," Buddy said.
"Ooooh. Are you cold Mister Nidoran?" asked Puff. "You can come cuddle with us! Get warm."
"Yeah!"
"I don't think he wants cuddles, guys."
"AWE BUT CUDDLES," whined the inexperienced Zigzagoon and Swirlex.
"Cuddles are wonderful and warm, but he's a wild pokemon. And he doesn't want to cuddle with a stranger." Buddy nodded to herself.
"He should try it." Zag splashed in another puddle and then tried to follow the nidoran.
Adrian saw, "Hey now, Zag. No. You'll get hurt. They can be quite poisonous." He moved closer to intercept, stepping back into the rain, the torrent splashing harshly off his umbrella. Queenie perked up and followed, buzzing along by his shoulder curiously.
Zag scoffed and would have pounced the nidoran if Buddy didn't scoop him with her vines, "No."
"BUT I WANNA CUDDLE!"
"Cuddle Puff. Be soaked fuzzballs together."
Zag giggled and wriggled in those vines, "But Buuuuuuuddyyy. I waaaaannnaaaaa."
"Noooooo," the ivysuar shook her head in amusement.
By then, Adrian was right near them.
"Hey little guy, no need to get upset. We don't mean any harm," Adrian began, but suddenly, a pokeball flashed open and Igenous appeared. The little baby geodude floundered in the rain. AHHHHHHH.
Adrian shoved the umbrella over the rock type, "Ig, you should have stayed in your ball. It's raining..." Goodness, he wasn't sure how he was going to wrangle all these unruly mons with a grumpy nidoran right there, being all tempting and interesting to them. So he pulled a pokeball out of his pocket and tried to discreetly bounce it off the nidoran as it was 'faced off' against Ig under the shelter of the umbrella that he held out over them awkwardly.
He might just take a hard peck to the kneecap at this rate...

Nidoran had it all figured out when he challenged Adrian’s Pokemon but never calculated that they would be so chatty. They prattled on, offering him hugs and condolences for his suffering. That didn’t help anything! “Why would I join you when you’re all having to be out here in the rain!?” The spiky furry hare snapped angrily, slapping his paw against the cold, wet earth. A large flash of lightning ripped through the dark skies, temporarily brightening the otherwise bleak and dreary night. Thunder soon accompanied it, shaking the earth to its core with its roar. “Can’t you see how horrible the weather is?! I was trying to wait it out in my warm cave but nooo!”Adrian’s Poke Ball flung in the air but Nidoran easily scurried out of the way and watched it bounce against a tree and flop to the ground. In the next moment, the small rabbit would pounce on top of it with all his might, making sure to shatter the stupid device into several smaller pieces. “I want a warm, dry cave!” Nidoran grumbled, shaking his head and fluffing up his spiky fur in warning. “I don’t want a hug! I don’t want to join some drown Pokemon whose trainer is too dense to recall them in the face of such a terrible storm!”Ziggy’s zigzagging also unnerved Nidoran. He hopped back and pointed his horn at the small furry raccoon while his eyes began to glow with a strange light. He was preparing himself for the assault and would make sure that his enemies knew just who he was! They were way too nice and way too cheerful. That’s just not how things around here worked at all! “Why can’t you all agree that this weather just sucks?!” Nidoran snapped, spinning to face off with the newly called out…rock? With hands? Ugh, could this get any worse? “Surely YOU agree, right? This rain is a travesty!” Nidoran pleaded with Igneous angrily. Zag was hurt and whined a bit.
But Ig? He just looked around. Up. Down. At the nidoran. Back at Adrian who was fumbling for a ball in his pocket. "You don't want to get wet," the trainer muttered, still sheltering them with the umbrella as best he could at this awkward angle.
"...I've never seen rain before," admitted the geodude, curious. "I've not seen a lot at all. I only hatched a few days ago...Why don't you like the rain? What are you? Who are you?" He floated out of the way when Adrian tried to return him, sticking his hand out into the water. He shuddered and yanked his hand back. "Oh. Is that why? It...doesn't feel very good..."
"Rain feels great!" Zag protested.
"He's a rock type," Buddy clarified. "He takes damage from water more than some types. Him and Flicker should stay out of the rain when possible."
"Is it painful?!"
"No..." Ig said, sticking his hand back out. "But it does not feel..good..."
Adrian realized his pokemon were all having...a learning experience right now and sighed. Okay, uh, he really didn't have a great way of dealing with this nidoran so...maybe he'd keep throwing pokeballs until it decided it wanted to stay inside of one. Yeah, that was a good plan. He scooped a ball out of his pocket again and flicked it at the Nidoran. Maybe this time it wouldn't notice in time to dodge and break the thing.
"You said I would take more damage from water attacks..." Ig said slowly.
"And grass."
"Oh."
"Possibly others, but I don't know everything, yknow."
"What hurts you more?" Ig asked Buddy. The ivysuar got a distant look on her face as some...memories cropped up. She recalled facing against a houndour, flames curling in her maw. The embers. The heat. She remembered the searing pain as those flames licked up her side and left her wounded. Yet she kept standing.
Adrian threw himself over her, shielded her, as he sent out Sarge. Threw a ball. They both prayed.
"...Oh, y'know, things you'd expect plants to not like. Bugs...birds...fire. That sort of thing."
"Fire..."
"You've seen Flicker. She's a fire type."
"Yes...fire. And fire is weak to....water?"
"Yes! You're very smart, Ig."
The geodude hummed a bit, oblivious to the fact that his trainer was trying to keep him from being yeeted by an angry nidoran by throwing pokeballs untl he stayed in one.

"What? You've never seen rain? That's silly! Everyone knows what rain is and how dangerous it is!" The Nidoran questioned, agitated by the Geodude's naivety. Sadly, it was soon ignored by the trainer's Pokemon again, as they chatted amongst themselves about type advantages and disadvantages. Before he could protest again for being ignored, it was sucked into a capture device in a blink of an eye and a flash of light. The ball plopped and wobbled to the left and then to the right, before ending in a satisfying DING to indicate a successful capture. Now, at least the Nidoran don't have to look for a new nest with fear of being flooded and territorial dispute with an unfrinedly neighbor.

There! The second pokeball he threw caught the nidoran and allowed him to sigh in relief. "Ig, you should get back in your ball." The geodude didn't put up too much protest as he was vanished away to safety. Though Adrian couldn't say he had too many complaints about catching a nidoran. They were quite strong pokemon from what he recalled, and their power and flexibility upon becoming nidoking was something emphasized by trainers in kanto. After all, a nidoking could help you get through most gyms save for Misty and Sabrina...
Something to consider for later maybe.
For now, he tucked the ball away and looked around. It was still hard to see and the ominous thunder had him feeling extremely exposed out here in the elements. He felt it would be wisest to retreat under the shelter of another tree if he could...
So he did, umbrella still held firm.
Queenie followed like before, happily buzzing along to avoid getting her wings wet. That meant once more Zag, Buddy and Puff were left to play. Which they did. With enthusiasm.
"Hopefully nobody else thinks we're stupid for hanging out in the rain," Zag said as he splashed hard through a large puddle, muddying up his belly and paws. "It's so hot sometimes...this is nice. It's fun. Especially when we can get all nice and dry in the pokeball." He shook himself, then HOP! SPLASH! Mud everywhere. His tail waggled a bit, pleased with himself.
"Wild pokemon can't just get clean like we can. Or dry. They have to find somewhere warm that they can cozy down in and wait it out." Buddy pointed out, scooping a messy Zag with a vine. He scree'd in happiness and wiggled, wiggled, wiggled. He was quite hard to hold onto, so thus was born the game of capture the raccoon.
The wily Zag squirmed until he could leap down, only to be caught by another vine. He giggled and twisted and batted at said vine before wiggling more. FREEDOM! HE WILL HAVE IT!
WIGGLE WIGGLE WIGGLE.
Adrian shook his head, smiling to himself as the two played. He watched as Puff bounced around them. This weather was perfect for his spheal pup, but he'd a full party and not been able to bring her out. Soon. He'd bring her out soon so she could enjoy the weather she was born into.
He leaned back against a tree, and made sure his pokemon were all safe, playing and getting along. Assured they were, he let his gaze trail along, searching for that elusive meowth that was supposedly swarming. Was the rain a deterrent? Not a lot of pokemon were exactly out playing in the rain...
Adrian pulled out his 'Nav and noticed that there were other registered trainers nearby. Huh. Impossible to see them, but it made sense given the rumors. Was that...Zaiden? Long time no see. Maybe they'd bump into each other at some point. Or maybe they'd breeze past like ships in the night. It was certainly dark enough to miss seeing a tree in front of your face, much less a person.
Zag suddenly squealed in victory as he escaped Buddy's vines, and promptly scurried into some grass and up a small tree.
"Can't get me now!" he challenged.
Buddy took it. She ran after him, Puff close behind, and those vines darted up to try to snare him again. He giggled and bounced, trying to scrambled up slick bark and onto a branch. Woah! Wobbly. Maybe this wasn't the best idea...but...he would not lose! He darted away again, all the way until he was at the end of the branch which bent and bent and bent...
SNAP!
Eek!
Zag fell, but before he could hit the ground, Buddy caught him with an amused huff.
"I win," Buddy taunted.
"Nu-uh! The tree broke, It's a foul! A fluke!" More squirms. FREEDOM WOULD BE HIS! Little limbs flailed and floundered as Buddy hauled him back to the puddle the'd been playing in and dumped him into it again. Muddy boy. Now extra muddy. He splashed mud at Buddy who bapped him.
It was all just very silly and messy. They'd each need a good bath later once back at the pokecenter. No doubt the warm water would leave them all feeling refreshed after spending the evening getting soaked to the bone in this cool summer shower. Adrian pushed back damp bangs from his face and yawned. Hn. Drowsy. Bad time and place to sleep, but it was kinda soothing, listening to the rain.
He shifted his weight and suppressed another yawn. Adrian needed to be alert when something inevitably popped up and caused some minor mayhem.
"C'mon meowth...just show up already...that way we can get out of this rain..." Adrian mumbled.

No Meowth, no dice, no luck, no sunshine. Poor Adrian was trying to stay away from the rain while looking for the elusive Meowth. The kitties probably went to play elsewhere! However, all hope was not lost, as a small Surskit slowly crawled over to play. The lone bug type gladly enjoyed this rain, as it was in its element with the puddles everywhere! Seeing that the Ivysaur and Zigzagoon was playing something, it got intrigued and skidded over. "What are you guys playing? Who's winning? How do I play? Which side should I join?" The duo type squeaked, bombarding the two with questions like a young child joining a new game in the kindergarten mats. The water type bounced and wiggled its legs, readying itself to jump into the game once explanation was given. It had no chill.

Oh. A wild surskit. Neat. It looked like it was enjoying the rain, unlike the nidoran before it.
There was a flash and—
"Ig get back in your ball!"
—Queenie flew down to observe her fellow bug type. Bzzzzz. Interesting.
"You want to play with us?" she asked.
"You gonna join us, Queenie!?" Zag asked excitedly. Wriggles. "Okay, you gotta find a puddle and—"
"I do not splash in puddles."
"Oh. Uh, you wanna chase? You both can play chase right?" Zag looked between the surskit and the combee. "I know! You two could totally race. You're both bug types. One has wings but one is like...totally dancing on the water. It'd be cool!"
"Race? Hm...I suppose...that could be managed," Queenie said, flexing her wings and buzzing faster and faster until the wind itself stirred around them, "Surskit. You and I, we shall race instead of splashing in puddles. Terms of this deal acceptable?"
Zag cocked his head, a little confused, "You got the spirit, queenie, but, uh...heh, y'know what, it's fine. We can all totally race! Right Buddy?"
"I think I will watch and judge the winner."

"Yesssss!" The surskit squealed excitedly and couldn't stand still when Zag joined in and began to tell what they played. "I can make puddles!" It shouted overly energetic and blasted Zag with a water gun, cleaning some of the mud from his fur and hadn't he already been drenched to the bone, he would have been known. Queenie was the next and got blasted out of the sky by a second water gun, those were surprisingly powerful for such young and inexperienced pokemon like surskit. It didn't really realize what had happened but just caught that they talked about another game instead, "I can race! I'm really fast!" It said and looked eagerly from the combee to the zigzagoon, it nodded vigorously as Queenie accepted and through her speech even though it was pretty clear it didn't understood much of it. "Challenge accepted! I don't know what 'terms' is but I'll be fastest!" it squeaked and a sweet smell spread through the air from the surskit, "first to the tree and back wins!" It declared and without waiting to see if its opponent was ready it sped off, with incredible speed. "Weeeeeeeeeeeeee" they could hear and while the combee fought to catch up, it came racing back, "I'm winning!" It shouted to her as they passed each other. "Whoops!" It exclaimed the moment it had passed her as the winds from her wings made some turmoil behind her and threw it off balance. "Queenie!"
That watergun looked like it hurt, as the surskit's 'playing' was rather rough on the lower level pokemon. The bee still buzzed and fluttered, shaking off the wet of the water gun.
"...Puddlezzzz? Nono, no need to make puddlezzzzz." Queenie insisted, more soaked than she could honestly handle. That surskit hit hard! But it seemed like it would indeed agree to a race, so the bee buzzed contentedly, believing she was safe for more errant water guns.
However, when the race started, the water-skimmer blew them out of the literal water! It was so fast that Zag and Queenie struggled to keep up at all!
Puff bounced behind, also not understanding what they were doing but having fun doing it anyway!
Adrian, realizing his pokemon might be outstripped in strength here, started to throw pokeballs at the surskit in hopes of capturing it. Maybe he really shouldn't have brought a team of mostly babies out here to catch stuff. If he brought Barry, this bug wouldn't even be a blip on their radar!
But, he got his pokemon into this mess, it was up to him to resolve things, and that started by disengaging everyone by throwing a ball. Queenie and Puff closed in on the Surskit when the ball was thrown, while Zag just raced along past, oblivious and not even really paying attention to the 'battle'.

"Bbuut! But making puddles is fun!" The Surskit squeaked, spraying water everywhere once again, and one blast knocked a Pokeball that Adrian was hurling, crashing it onto a rock. It didn't even realized it was being captured as the pour rain blurred vision and amplified the water gun's power. Then, in another shot, the water type attack blasted at Queenie, slamming her onto the ground unconsciously as she made large splash on the ground. The innocuous Surskit thought the Combee was having a go at making her own puddles instead. "See? Wasn't that fun!" It cheered, and started to skate close to examine the fallen Combee. However, before it got a good look, it was captured by Adrian's second Pokeball, which was aimed to capture the silly little bug type. Now they can have fun at Adrian's discretion! Adrian swore. Okay. Yeah, these pokemon were too high leveled for his current team. He should, well, maybe head back into town before more of his team got knocked out. He returned Queenie, scooped up the ball of the captured surskit and then started returning everyone else to their ball.
He was getting soaked, even despite the umbrella he held, but it was better than having his team get thrashed on his watch.
Once he double-checked to make sure everyone was secure, he started to make his way back to Azalea proper. Maybe chasing rumors of those galarian meowth wasn't the best idea...his pokemon were poorly prepared for a fight so much higher level than them. Sure, he had a couple teammates who were appropriately leveled, but his inexperienced babies kept jumping in front of wild pokemon like it would be the funnest game ever.
With a long suffering sigh, he resigned himself to this venture being a failure and slogged through mud and wet grass.
He didn't know how long the swarm would last or if it would even be here tomorrow.

Ugh, what a month. Since those strange new pokemon had come down from the mountains things on this route had been turned upside down. Old rules had been upturned, alliances had been broken and the area had been swarmed by human trainers who had followed these strange pokemon and had made the place very unsafe for everyone else. Many families and friendships had been torn apart, when some of them got captured and it had put an unrest to the otherwise peaceful route. Surskit knew about several who in desperation had retreated into Ilex forest, but who knew if they would be safe in there and if they would ever find their way back out again?! So! Surskit had taken things into its own.. stalk like legs and had lead trainers to all the new arrivals which meant he had seen a lot of them get taken away from here, much to its pleasure. There weren't many left now and the trainers had begun to leave the area as well. The water bug skated through the rain, fully taking advantage of the speed it got from it. It couldn't hear the stomping from the unwanted wild pokemon behind it, but it knew it was there. It's eyes tingled when it spotted a trainer, although this one seemed to already be heading back towards the big cluster of human stone nests. It worried a moment that this trainer already had gotten what he wanted now he was heading home, but it pushed it aside when it herd the crashing through the wet shrubbery behind it. A surskit came darting down to Adrain and skated around him a couple of times to make sure he was standing still long enough for the other to arrive. A branch was snapped off its tree and thrown out into the open as a grey furred meowth stepped out from the deeper shadows and narrowed its eyes at the human and the surskit in front of it. Surskit tried to hide behind Adrian, hoping he would call out a pokemon and start a battle, making it possible for it to run off safely. "So this is what you wanted help with? What are you doing down there? Aren't you coming up here so that I can help you against him?" the meowth said dryly, the warning clear in its voice and the surskit froze fearfully. The meowth took a step backwards into the shadows and the surskit realized that it would hide for the human and probably hunt itself down to get revenge if it didn't keep its scheme going. "Of c-c-course I am!" It squeaked fearfully, "I, I j-just made s-sure he'd st-stay!" It skated back towards the meowth who stepped out again with a confident smirk, before its face darkened as it looked down at Adrian. "You will pay for what you did!" It called out to him, and whatever pokemon he had hopefully called out, Surskit sent them a wild look begging for help to get out of this situation it totally had brought on itself. Surskit [Lv 10] is scared into helped Galarian Meowth [lv 14] in this battle. Weather will be rain.(ooc: skipping the whole list to give you one last chance this month XD We have sometimes in these cases rolled the new encounter in the same post as the other is finished to speed things up a bit, when people are hunting down specific pokemon just around new swarm rollovers ^^ ) Shiny: 9wQbOvpN1-421-421-42·1-42

Adrian hurried back towards town, having given up on his meowth hunt. But as he sloshed through another puddle of muck, something skittered around his feet. Oh, another surskit. He tried to step around it, trying not to both the little wild pokemon, but it seemed adamant about being under foot and getting his attention. As he tried to figure out this conundrum, something else caught his attention.
"Wait, is that?" his eyes went wide. "It is...It's one of those weird meowths." He raked a hand through his hair in disbelief at his good fortune. However, now was the tricky part. Catching pokemon he might not quite be leveled right for battling. Well, he wouldn't send out his baby squad, that was for sure, but both Buddy and Zag should be able to handle themselves.
He frowned a little in confusion as the surskit moved to join the meowth, looking scared and intimidated. Was this meowth bullying the surskit? Heck, was this weird meowth looking to battle trainers?
As he couldn't understand pokemon speech, he could only guess.
"Okay, let's do this," he said, bracing himself and throwing out two pokeballs. From them burst an ivysuar and zigzagoon, both alert and ready. "Buddy, you know how these double battles go. It's impossible to aim a pokeball properly with too many pokemon clustered together, so we gotta knock out the surskit. Use leech seed on it. Then use sleep powder on the meowth. Zag, keep headbutting the surskit until it runs off, okay? We gotta get this meowth alone."
His pokemon seemed to snap to attention, ready for the battle.
Right!
Zag darted out to chase the poor, spooked surskit around and dish out powerful headbutts (his favorite new skills since discovering it). And Buddy was in the back playing support, trying to entangle the surskit in leeching seeds before then trying to put the meowth to sleep. Of course, with all this rain, it would be difficult to get that power on the meowth...so it could possibly take a few attempts.
— OOC: Zag uses headbutt on Surskit x2 Buddy uses leech seed on Surskit + Sleep Power on Meowth
