With Team Skull's first successful capture of this season's Bug Catching Contest complete, the Sport Ball containing Karrablast was transported to Shinya's PC for safekeeping. But whether or not it would stay there for very long remained to be seen. "Hmmm...That was good, but I'm not satisfied. Sure, we could probably flip that blue bug to some newbie trainer for a good payout, but I'd still prefer to catch somethin' rare and that we don't already have, ya know?" Shinya questioned Joltik as she skittered back up onto his right shoulder, commenting on the state of things after their first capture of the day. As rare as a Karrablast was, the Bug type trainer still wanted something better. Both to win the contest, and to possibly add a brand-new Bug type Pokemon to his already strong and diverse team.

"Yeah! Yeah! I know exactly what ya mean, boss! We still have two encounters left! So, let's go! Let's go! We still have a chance to find somethin' really amazing and unique!" Joltik answered her trainer with her usual high levels of enthusiasm and optimism, jumping up and down on his shoulder as she did. So far, it looked as though no one had been able to locate even a single Bug type Pokemon from the Paldea region though. Not only that, but Shinya also heard whispers that Durants had been sighted during this contest as well. But again, no one had found any of them as of yet. As a result, the Alolan trainer was beginning to doubt the credibility of these rumors, raising an eyebrow as he continued to walk and search through the tall grass. If there was even a chance that these rumors were true, Shinya was definitely not done searching for Bug type Pokemon just yet.

As the grass and foliage rustled with the sound of all kinds of trainers of all ages young and old, it seemed there were bugs aplenty. Some were armed with nets, others with just their Pokemon, it seemed that everyone was enjoying themselves in their own kind of way. The duo was on the look for a rare Pokemon but it seemed that fate had another plan. While most bugs ran from their respective captors it seemed that one had appeared out of the safety of its hiding space. Right into the path of the Team Skull member but it wasn't concentrated on them at all.

Instead, its little body seemed to look around back and forth for something, or rather someone. Perhaps it had lost its friend in all the trouble that was going on. How was it going to survive? It had been with its friend since it had hatched from its egg. It was inseparable. Cries come as it searches, looking anywhere, everywhere. No matter where its friend went it would follow, if only it could follow where it had gone! Only after looking around does it finally notice the skull member and the joltik on their shoulder.

<"Excuse me, please. It's so very important. Have you seen and Illumise around here?"> it seemed its safety was disregarded for the moment. Some things were more important than that.

In their search for rare Bug type Pokemon, it looked as though Shinya and Joltik failed to account for one thing. Other Pokemon getting to them before they could get to the rarer ones. Although, if any wild Pokemon were unfortunate enough to cross their path in this way, they'd quickly discover that the word "mercy" doesn't exist anywhere in Shinya's personal dictionary. And as fate would have it, this Volbeat did exactly that, likely unaware of how much danger he was now in. The Team Skull grunt and his Bug/Electric type eyed the Firefly Pokemon, listening to what he had to say, but didn't look all that amused by his very presence. "No. As a matter of fact, we haven't. But here's some questions for ya. First off, why should we care about your lost girlfriend, sister, or whatever the heck she is to ya? And secondly, why are ya here wastin' our time and another of our encounters when we could be findin' better Bug type Pokemon than a scrub like you?"

From his tone alone, anyone could tell that Shinya was definitely not in a happy mood, glaring right at the wild Bug type Pokemon as he spoke. If Volbeat wanted to run or fly away, any chance of that happening was now gone, and he was about to learn a very painful lesson. Crossing Team Skull's path was one of the biggest mistakes you could possibly make. "Looks like it's time for another beatdown, Joltik! Give this scrub a double servin' of your Electroweb! And don't skimp on the voltage!" The last thing the Alolan trainer wanted at the moment was to let this Volbeat off easy, giving Joltik her orders and completely disregarding his feelings of loss and concern for his missing Illumise. "Ya made the boss angry, and I'm gonna make ya regret it! Prepare to feel Team Skull's wrath, ya scrub!" Joltik glared and yelled at Volbeat, then jumped right off of Shinya's right shoulder again, quickly spinning a web of electric threads and tossing it at the pure Bug type Pokemon fluttering before her.

OOC: Running Shoes used. Also, necroix, just a few things. First, Shinya healed Joltik up a few posts ago, so her HP should be at 100%. Second, I didn't see any mention of the 301 word count for Shinya's Scraggy egg in the Updates thread. So, since this post has a word count of 353, that's a total of 654 words that need to be added to Shinya's Scraggy egg. Thanks.

Joltik would annoyingly find herself in another disorienting haze after her first shocking web made good against the buzzing firefly. It didn't help her concentration when her opponent multiplied itself. Joltik's small size and lightning speed was so intimidating to all these other bugs it seemed their only coping mechanism was to try and confuse her.

Once again, Shinya saw this confusion coming from a mile away, but that didn't stop him from letting out a sigh of frustration. "Ya damn scrubs and your cheap shots." The Bug type trainer commented in an equally frustrated tone of voice, then began to ponder his next move. He had a few Persim berries among his belongings, which would cure Joltik's confusion instantly, but then Volbeat would likely just use Confuse Ray on her again right away. And with Joltik's Compound Eyes ability, Double Team was of little concern to Shinya, but that could all change if the Firefly Pokemon decided to use it two or three more times. Truly, this was not a good situation to be in. Even so, it's not like this was the first time Shinya had been in a situation like it, as he recalled his quest to recover some stolen sweets and had a run in with a wild Arcanine.

Unfortunately, unlike back then, Shinya didn't have any other Pokemon to rely on, knowing full well that if he switched Joltik out with one of his other Bug types, they'd be disqualified from this contest. Even so, it's not like Joltik was all alone out here. Coming up with a new plan, the green-haired trainer withdrew another Sport Ball from his bag, gripping it tightly as he narrowed his eyes at Volbeat. "Joltik, if ya can hear me, try to use Electroweb again! And if can't, well, I've got your back!" Shinya shouted out Joltik's next set of orders as loud as he could, hoping that she'd be able to fight through the confusion and land another attack. At the same time, he also raised his right hand, brought it back, and threw the Sport Ball at the wild Volbeat as hard as he could, glaring at the pure Bug type the entire time. "And you, don't think for one damn second that you've got the upper hand on Team Skull!"

The capture may have failed, but that made little difference to Shinya, as he never planned on keeping the Firefly Pokemon to begin with. Plus, Joltik still managed to land another Electroweb through her confusion and Volbeat's Double Team, which did well to improve Shinya's mood. And to top it all off, Joltik was able to break free from her confusion at just about the same time as when Volbeat broke free from the Sport Ball Shinya threw at him. The Attaching Pokemon shook her little head from side to side once she was free from Volbeat's spell and took a quick moment to look around and recompose herself. "Huh?! Wait! Where am I?! What was I doing?! Is the sky not on the ground anymore?!" All the while, Volbeat was still struggling to break free from the second electrically charged web that Joltik had trapped him in.

"Focus, Joltik! We've got a battle to finish! It feels good to have ya back though, girl! Now, let's finish this scrub off and get back to huntin' for some better Bug types! You and me! Use Electroweb one more time!" Regaining his grin, the Team Skull grunt gave Joltik her orders, knowing full well that she was faster than Volbeat, even without the first two Electroweb attacks. Still, should Joltik's third and final attack fail to hit its mark due to the Double Team, Shinya was ready with one more Sport Ball, gripping it tightly and fully prepared to throw it if Joltik missed. "You got it, boss! It feels so good to be back! I don't care where the sky is, as long as we're together!" Filled to the brim with joy and electricity, the Bug/Electric type released them both in one big burst, spinning yet another web and tossing it straight towards Volbeat with all the might her tiny body could muster.

And just like that, a second wild Bug type Pokemon had been trapped beneath an electrically charged web, suffering with no hope of escape in sight. This Volbeat had asked Shinya and Joltik for help, and this was the outcome. Not feeling guilty about their actions in the slightest, Joltik skittered back up onto Shinya's right shoulder, and Shinya exchanged the Sport Ball in his hand for another Potion from his bag, spraying Joltik with it. "A little rough around the edges, but ya did good, Joltik. Still, we've got one encounter left, and it never hurts to be a little extra prepared, ya know?" Clearly, the Bug type trainer was counting on this fifth and final encounter to be a good one, tossing the empty Potion container over his left shoulder once it was all used up.

"I know exactly what ya mean, boss! Yup! Yup! Yup! I just hope I don't get confused again! Arceus, that's annoying!" Joltik said to her trainer with a nod, then generated a few tiny sparks from her tiny body when she thought about the possibility to getting confused for a third time. Naturally, this caused some of the hairs on Shinya's head to stand up like before, but he still didn't seem to mind all that much. "Well, if that happens again, we'll show 'em all that if ya mess with Team Skull, Team Skull will destroy ya. Now, c'mon, Joltik. Let's find us a Bug type that really stands at the apex of this whole contest." Shinya said to Joltik with his eyes narrowed slightly, heading even further into the tall grass once he was done speaking, more determined than ever to find a Bug type Pokemon that really stand out.

With only one encounter remaining, and other participants finding things like a Pinsir and a shiny Scyther of all things, Shinya was starting to feel some pressure. Not to mention envy. True, the Karrablast he and Joltik caught wasn't a bad catch by any means, but would it really be enough to get Shinya first place? Or at least second place? The trainer from Alola had more than his share of doubts, having already mentally given up to some degree, as a small sigh of defeat escaped his lips. It looked as though fortune didn't favor the wicked this time around, but even in these trying times, even wicked beings like Shinya still had a light to brighten up their day, as well as their mood. For the Team Skull grunt, that light came in the form of a tiny Bug/Electric type, seeing her dear trainer's distress and immediately trying her hardest to cheer him up.

"Hey now, c'mon. Don't look so disappointed, boss. It's not like you at all. Sure, we might not win today, but so what? We can always win tomorrow. After all, this contest doesn't matter. Our mission does. And I know the others would back me up on that. Team Skull doesn't quit. Ya said so yourself. Now, c'mon and buck up. Unless ya want all of us to start thinkin' that it's okay to give up." It doesn't happen often, but Joltik toned down her energy as she spoke to Shinya, doing so in a caring and compassionate tone of voice. The Attaching Pokemon also nuzzled her little head up against Shinya's cheek, both to show her affection and to try and get a chuckle or two out of him. Thankfully, it worked. Shinya started smirk, as a few chuckles did escape his lips, and he gave Joltik a few gentle rubs on top of her head with one of his fingers.

"Yeah, you're right. It'd definitely be great if we won somethin' from this contest, but win or lose, our goal stays the same. And we'll see it through, one way or another. Thanks, Joltik. I needed that." With trainer and Pokemon sharing a touching moment, Shinya's fifth and final encounter decided to make an appearance, drawing the attention of both instantly. "Tch. Well, I guess that's it. Whatever. Ya know, I heard Blipbugs are supposed to be smart, but appearin' before us was actually pretty stupid. But hey, maybe I'll enjoy watchin' this Bug type nerd writhe in your Electroweb. Go to it, Joltik. And gimme a good show. Okay, girl?" With a brand-new smirk upon his face, Shinya gave Joltik her orders, and she eagerly jumped off his shoulder and carried them out. "Boss, it would be my genuine pleasure!"

The blipbug seemed to stand no chance even as it weakly struggled against the electrical webs that surrounded it. Though it did manage to do some damage. It seemed with that the contest was concluded and Shinya had a pokemon that would be submitted for judging.
