Wren exchanged pleasantries with Ranger Nikki, and the two found themselves at the fated footprint. As a familiar electric sheep blocked the way, Dante entered the field in all hos cocoon glory. He let out a resounding hiss as he glared with his huge red eye partially obscured by silk. The battle-ready bug escaped the pokéball without Wren even ordering him to. "Oh! I guess it's Dante's turn!" The trainer expressed, a giggle in their voice. "Alright, use Tackle!"

In the crisp embrace of a wintry morning, Nikki led Wren along the trail, their breath forming misty tendrils in the chill air. Their quest to find Timmy took a sudden turn as an unexpected veil of fog descended, an icy curtain draped over the landscape, obscuring the path ahead. "Looks like nature's throwing us a snowy curveball," Nikki remarked, her tone tinged with concern as she worried about Timmy's condition. "This fog could complicate our search." Before they could navigate the opaque veil, a surprise emerged — a Mareep, its woolly coat standing out against the wintry whiteness, a sudden apparition in the fog. "Wren, be ready! That Mareep seems geared for a tussle," Nikki cautioned, a hint of urgency lacing her words. As the electrically charged Pokémon surged forward, determined in its wintry assault, Wren instinctively called upon Dante, the cocooned warrior, to confront the Mareep's advance. In the midst of the wintry haze, Dante, the Cascoon, and the wild Mareep clashed headlong in a collision of determination. The Mareep, enveloped in crackling static, charged forward with an electric tackle, its determination resonating through the frosty veil. Wren was slightly put on edge by the inconvenience of a fog when all they wanted to do was find a fellow trainer. They swallowed their frustration. Getting upset won't solve anything. Let's wait till the end of our shift, as it were. They clocked that Ranger Nikki's tone sounded a bit crucial as well. Looks like both of them were feeling the pressure. Time is of the essence.
"Dante, let's use Tackle!" The young trainer provided with authority. The speedy little cocoon took it in stride and clashed with the electric sheep.

Why was the mareep blocking the path and suddenly charging at them? No one knew, and especially not the mareep who had just been spooked by the sudden fog and then some scary shadows had suddenly appeared. Their first clash had not calmed it down and it stared wide eyed as it tried to figure out who those scary monsters were. Suddenly something came rolling straight at it, it backed horrified as it didn't look like any live pokemon it knew, a bleat escaped it when Dante hit it, and it released a weak wave of electricity which went straight in and messed with the cascoons muscles. Did a cocoon even have any muscles left? Weren't there something about them turning into mush and rebuilding a new form inside the cocoon? "It's a feisty one!" Nikki commented, "ooh, that might make the battle a bit tricky," she added when the telltale flash of a thunder wave was seen from it. "Not that it will really risk your win, but it might drag it out," she said confidently to Wren, they had beaten Nikki's two pokemon after all. She did her best to hide her tenseness but she too wanted this to be over as fast as possible, so that they could check up on the signs she had found. If Timmy was in trouble, a whole cold night out here certainly wouldn't have made it any better. It was best to check up on him as fast as possible. Wren regulated their breathing. One of their pokémon being paralyzed as soon as they left the pokémon center is a little annoying, but they'll manage. Nothing will compare to the knots they would brush out in Cincinno's fur back home, anyway. That should be its own type of status effect.
"You've got 'em on the ropes! Use tackle one more time!" The newbie trainer ordered. Dante's really seemed to take battling passionately; maybe he's not as cautious as he seemed at first as a little worm.

The mareep wasn't trying to cause any trouble for this group, it was afraid more than anything else. The sudden fog that had clouded the area had made it hard to see and it had gotten lost from the rest of the group it had been with. So it had come stumbling out of its home only to find strangers in its path which made it harder for the market to not lash out in fear. Though it was sure that more than just a fog it had seen ghostly figures in it. For a Pokemon that was easily spooked it was quite afraid of ghosts and it wanted nothing to do with them. So it gave a weak growl at the bug pokemon since its static didn't seem to be enough to deter it. The growl seemed to worry the bug just a tiny bit so the much slower tackle didn't do as much damage as it had before. The mareep seemed to be barely standing, but still standing in the way of the two was taking more time than Nikki wanted to spend. "We should hurry, Wren." she mentioned one more time. Though she knew they could only go as fast as the battle, she was only getting more worried about Timmy. As the clock ticked on, Wren was growing more worried much like Ranger Nikki. They hoped that Dante's new abilities to shed its skin will shine through and help with their little paralysis problem. "I'm sorry, I'm trying!" They retorted weakly.
Dante as struggling, but still hung in there. He had the unassuming Mareep on the ropes, and knew that one more good hit would win them the battle. He let out a resounding hiss as he used Tackle one more time.

Mareep kicked at the ground as it glared through the dense fog and focused on its opponent. They were rough and strong. A resounding bleat chanted from the tips of its lungs, and it surged across the ground, determined not to give up the ghost just yet. Tired from the wintry snow that covered the land and made its home chillingly cold, and annoyed by Dante and his trainer, Mareep wanted to kick them off further up the route, back towards the city nearby where so many others like Wren wandered from. Nikki watched carefully and quietly, trying to find a way to help them with their mission faster. “I think you’ve got it in the bag.” Nikki crossed her fingers and commented. “Seems like the weather’s upsetting some of the native wildlife around here, though.” She raised her eyes and searched through the skies nearby. It was hard to tell, since a dense fog essentially meant that the shadows that loomed above and all around them would be nearly impossible to make out if they hinted to a wild Pokemon, or just a branch shaking in the wind. Dante shivered in place, unable to move due to his paralysis as it kicked in and seized his small limbs. “I think Dante might evolve soon?” Nikki pointed out with a smile. She was asking Wren in an attempt to confirm her suspicions. Evolution was always quite an amazing thing to witness. It took your beloved partner and made them stronger, sometimes faster, and tougher overall. However, not all Pokemon seemed to improve through the metamorphosis. Was Wren going to allow her Dante to evolve later on, if he showed an interest in evolving further? "I think so! I remember reading that bug types tend to evolve faster." Their nerves subsiding with the idle chitchat, Wren offered an answer to Nikki's question. Now all they had to do was wait till Dante could pull through his ailment and finally strike. What with the weather and his condition, though, it might take a while. The trainer could swap him out with another pokémon to finish the Mareep off, but what fun would that be to suppress Dante's evolution? The little bug deserved his time to shine for a second time. Wren was uncertain about what he was going to evolve into, but excited nonetheless.

As the Mareep prepared another attack it started to build up another small charge of electricity in it's wool. Being so young it did not understand that Thunder Wave was never going to knock Dante out and even as the electricity struck the young Cascoon it caused no damage. If anything this strike seemed to awaken something in Dante as he started to hope forward at a pace so slow a Slowpoke would win in a race. Nonetheless Mareep lacked the experience to know when to jump out of the way of such a slow bug type Pokemon and even with the incoming Tackle being weak it was more than enough to deliver a knockout blow. As the Mareep fell over on it's side Dante started to glow in a bright white light and started to change his appearance. Jade could still stop the process if they wanted to but if not Dante would soon finish evolving. Nikki then grew excited waiting to see if Dante would finish the process in such a short period of time. " Wow it looks like you were right, Dante is evolving by the looks of things, I never thought it would be such a quick process." She said as she waited for Jade's decision. The beaming light from Dante's cocooned form convulsed and spread out to reveal two colorful wings, and a sinister looking body of a Dustox. Wren was never the type to deny pokémon their evolution, despite still being a rookie. This opened Dante up to new possibilities and potential in the contest sphere. Dante fluttered aloft, chittering menacingly as he was satisfied with his new form. The nonbinary trainer wanted to hug Dante, but instead held out their arm out for him to land. It took him a few tries with his size, but he sat on their arm with his puny legs and spread his proud wings wide.
"You're so beautiful! Just wait until you're under the contest lights!" The trainer cooed. Their mind was completely taken away from the wild pokémon they knocked out, so Mareep still had time to escape. Dante flutters gracefully off of Wren's arm and kicks up a bundle of wind through the misty fog. It cures their vision briefly before the fog settles back in. Wren laughed aloud. Looks like Dante has no need to body-slam his foes anymore!

Nikki watched the evolution and Wren's joy with a smile, she didn't say anything as the mareep got up and humped away unnoticed. Why would Wren be interested in a second one? They already got a flaafy, and a strong one could Nikki tell from her experience battling it. She gave them a bit of time but then spoke up to drag them back to reality, they were on a mission after all. Nikki clapped her hands together, "alright, let's get going and find that kid, shall we?" She gestured for Wren to come along as they followed the path and the footprints, which should lead them to the kid. The fog didn't make it easier, and at one point Nikki crouched to look closer at the ground, it was good Wren had a good tracker with him, not all the footprints were easy to see. "A bird, but is it with him, following him or just passed recently and therefore having no connection?" She mused and looked at Wren, "Do you know if Timmy has any pokemon, and if so which ones?"She would wait for Wren's answer before continuing. They wouldn't get far after that. "Drat," the ranger said and crouched again, although it would be clear to Wren what the problem was. They could easily continue but the soft ground had gave away to a more rocky one, no footprints here. "Looks like we're on the right trail," Nikki said and held up a bracelet which was clearly homemade by a kid, the classic string with colorful beads on it, spelling out the name 'Timmy'. Nikki looked around, "seems like he would mostly likely have went either have gone towards the pine trees over there for shelter, or the creek you can see over there if he was thirsty. What do you think?" She asked and would let it be up to Wren to decide where they went next. Where does Wren think they should look? The pine forest ~ ~ or ~ ~ the creek? (ooc: feel free to come up with what pokemon Timmy could potential have ^^)

After the excitement of evolution in another one of their pokemon, Wren obediently followed Ranger Nikki once the battle was over. They responded to her question. "I'm pretty sure that those tracks are Pidgey's." They assumed. "It looks different from the Taillow's feet from when it was attacking my hair." Pidgey's were rather common in Johto as Wren could see them flying all around since the move. "I've never met Timmy, myself. I hope he's still safe..."
Upon greeting the trail, Wren pointed towards the Pine Forest. "I think it would be more likely that a youngster like Timmy could probably get overzealous and venture into the woods. I can check the woods if you want to check the creek." They offered.

Nikkit kept her professional face, as she was disappointed that this helpful young trainer weren't even close to Timmy but taking the time out of their day to help out a stranger. She smiled and responded. "No worries, we'll just do everything we can to find him." Although before she could respond about splitting up, she could see the fog creeping in a thin layer, and decided to join Wren to find Timmy. "Let's go find Timmy together. It would be terrible for you to be lost as well especially in this fog." She gently grabbed Wren's hand, and the two began exploring the Pine Forest to investigate the missing child. As they stepped into the Pine Forest, many pinecones and fallen leaves could be found under the thick hazy fog. Nikki bent down and then inspected the ground closely. She gasped as she made a discovery. "These little footprints, could they be Timmy's? They looked like about the size of a child! I say we should follow it!"They didn't walk too far when a lone Ralts was also curiously shuffling on the ground to follow the footprints. The psychic Pokemon was startled when it detected the two's emotions of concern, and turned around to look at them, curiously.

"Of course, that sounds lovely!" Wren happily took Nikki's hand as they went to investigate through the mist. Her taking their hand slightly surprised them, but in context it made sense for her to do so. "Good find, the sneaker marks look promising."
Wren gasped as they saw the rare psychic type for the first time. What luck! "I'm sorry, but I gotta catch this one! It's just like the ones I've seen on TV!" Wren sent out River out and issued the command for her to use Bubblebeam.
