The Beginning of the Grand Quest

Samuel had just gotten his starter Pokemon from Professor Elm, and was now traversing down Route 29. The starter choice was pretty obvious; It was basically between Bulbasaur and Charmander, since Squirtle is not nearly as good as the other starters. And even though green was Samuel’s favourite colour, Bulbasaur definitely was a mean one. And so Samuel chose Charmander, which he named Chad. They had gotten off great, and were now traversing the route that lead to Cherrygrove.

Sentrets were known to be skittish and nervous and run off at the slightest hint of danger, and the few pokemon Samuel saw on his uneventful trip towards Cherrygrove, were just like that. A couple of the big-tailed ferret pokemon rose on said tail to get a good look at him before calling the alarm and racing off to safety. A pidgey chirped loudly and complaining that they dared to walk under its tree, but flapped off while it did it as it wasn't going to take any changes.
Wurmples were usually a common sight on this route but the cold had driven them into hiding, and who knew were the plentiful rattatas were?

One sentret was different that the commoners, it had always felt it was meant for something greater than scurrying around in the wild, constantly hunting for its next meal and fearing predators which might try get it. As the first frost of the year gripped the route, it knew it was now or never if it wanted to avoid a long dragged out struggle until the warmth returned.
It was waited at the road as it knew it could bring opportunities and as it spotted a trainer it perked up. It studied him closely as he walked closer, he looked confident, and with a purpose, not just some random kid out playing to be a champion. It bounced over and rose on its tail and spread out its arms to block Samuel's path.
"Sentret!" It challenged, it would show how great it was and he would tage it along and make it even greater! It was sure of it.

Samuel was slightly startled by the sudden appearance of the Sentret, but he knew he saw a lot of potential in it. He knew this particular Sentret would be a great member of the team. He would add Sentret to the team, but first, it seemed that it wanted a challenge to prove that he was worthy. “Alright, I accept your challenge!” exclaimed Samuel. “Go Chad [Charmander]!”

It was lucky for the sentret that Samuel agreed with its wishes and also saw the great potential it thought it held. It grinned when Samuel loudly declared he accepted its challenge and it swished its tail back and forth over the ground, whirling up dust.
"Are you ready for this? I'm going to be your new team mate and you better keep up and not slow me down!" it called out to Chad good humoredly. "I'll let you get the first attack, show me what you got!"

The sentret was more than ready, this was what it had trained for, what it had planned and why it had been on the lookout for a good trainer. It didn't want to get stuck with some random kid who just ran around and played in the grass, or some old trainer who had too many pokemon so that it was just going to end up as a part of a collection, never getting any training.
No, Samuel would be perfect, a trainer with a purpose and confidence, but who was also beginning so that he would use it and learn how great it was and take it to its ultimate power.

The sentret tilted its head curiously as Chad didn't do anything and Samuel didn't give any orders. It could have taken advantages of that but it had already told Chad it was giving him the first move, and it wasn't going to back down on its word.
"Backing down already?" It called challenging in an attempt to get them to do something so they could start.

And as a sidenote, if you want your pokemon to use a move without Samuel ordering it, or another than what he is ordering, then just make an ooc note about what move the pokemon is using ^^)

Samuel's mind raced with possibilities for how the battle would go with certain moves, and decided it would be best to use Ember, and then Scratch to keep Sentret from fainting so that he could catch it. Sentret looked like a strong Pokemon, and it seemed to be waiting for a trainer who was worthy of it's ultimate power. Samuel would need to give it his all! "Chad, use Ember!" he exclaimed to his Pokemon on the field.

(OOC: After Sentret uses its move, Samuel has Chad use Ember if Sentret is above half health, and Scratch if Sentret is below half health)

The Charmander obviously wasn't going to back down right away, he hadn't even move or land a blow! After hearing Samuel's command, the fire lizard readily inhaled and then exhaled, releasing specks of tiny flames toward the opponent. The Sentret tried to run away, but a majority of those flames singed its furs fair and square.

"Not a bad start, now take this!" The Sentret squealed and commented quickly, before jumping into action and ran toward with fire lizard with its stubby paw and sharp claws. Chad felt something, but the Sentret wasn't powerful enough to strike it down yet!

"That wasn't too bad! Do you want to see more of my claws?" The normal type burst out a comment, wondering how he would fare compare to his possible future new teammate.

Samuel thought for another moment before calling out the next move. "Chad, use Ember again!" Sentret was soon to be defeated, and then he could catch it! It would be great to have another Pokemon, especially one with so much potential.

Things were looking dire for the sentret, to be honest it wasn't certain how it was faring in this battle. Usually it kicked its opponents butts easily enough, or it had in the few it had had as sentrets usually stayed away from battles and were busy enough finding their next meal to be very aggressive.
It didn't help either that it didn't get much response from its opponents, it made it hard for it to read them but it hoped it meant it just forced them to concentrate so much on the battle, that they didn't have room for any other thoughts or chitchat.

"Your flames are powerful, but I can do this all day!" It boasted, or rather tried to steel itself as the charmander opened its maw and it saw the flicker in there before it was barraged with the small embers again. A few burned its fur and it got busy patting out any embers so that the skin didn't get burned.
It looked thoughtful at Chad and then curled up, right then and there, this always helped it endure attacks so obviously it would do so as well this time.
It would make sure it last long and really convince these two that it was the perfect fit for their team, so that they would take it away from here and help it to achieve greatness!

Samuel knew this was his chance to catch his first Pokemon. He knows that this particular Sentret would make a great addition to the team. He quickly reached into his bag and grabbed a Poke Ball. Samuel throws the Poke Ball at the Sentret!

The sentret knew that one day it was going to be so much more than just this little bit of its life. So it had waited for this moment, for a chance to catch a trainer to show how much it could be useful. Even against Charmander's flames, it would not be swayed, and curling up protected it from the full wrath of the flames that tried to sear its fur. It had been waiting this long a few flames would not be enough to discourage it from continuing on this quest to get a trainer and become all that it could be! So it was showing that it could withstand even the greatest flames of this Charmander would definitely get the attention of the trainer.

Sure enough, as the sentret uncurled from its ball the trainer grabbed for one of the balls they kept Pokemon in. A ball was thrown and clunked the creature on the top of its head absorbing it inside before the ball would only rock once before the satisfied ping came. Sentret had been caught! One successful battle and a new pokemon was on the horizon for Samuel!

Charmander is now Level 7!

It was a mystery what happened happened after the sentret got caught, but of course, when no one was around, did it really happen? Only Samuel would know and Chad of course since he was out and about when it happened. Most likely they collected the captured sentret, perhaps they even spent some time getting to know it? And most likely they moved on to continue their trek towards Cherrygrove.

When they did, they would come across a tall tree standing in a clearing on its own, it was much bigger than the others surrounding it, and high up was a nest. They probably wouldn't have noticed if not a spearow had came soaring in from above, it eyed them mistrustingly but continued to the nest. What was strange was what it was carrying, it looked like some sort of machine. When it starting ringing loudly it became clear it was a phone, clearly something someone was missing now, and probably tried to find. Where had that bird found it?
The spearow continued to the nest high up in the tree and landed in it with the phone, where it rummaged around, the ringing got muffled as it got buried under something else and then eventually stopped. Surely someone would be very happy to get their phone back!
