Having just bested Silver for the fourth time since his journey through Johto began, Shinya made a quick stop over at the Pokemon Center to get his Pokemon all patched up. Although, given how utterly one-sided his most recent bout with the redheaded trainer was, it's not like Shinya's Pokemon really needed it or anything. The Bug type trainer just wanted to make absolutely sure that they were all in perfect fighting shape for the next step of their journey, which was the moment Shinya had been anxiously waiting for. After leaving the Pokemon Center, Shinya took a little stroll down the streets of Azalea Town, until he reached his desired destination. The Azalea Town gym. Home and base of operations of the one and only Azalea Town gym leader, Bugsy.

With a big grin upon his face, the Team Skull grunt was already imagining all the ways he could battle said gym leader in his soon to be gym battle. Or rather, all the ways he could destroy said gym leader. Although Bugsy was a Bug type specialist, same as Shinya, Shinya wasn't the least bit flattered by that fact. On the contrary. Shinya found it to be extremely insulting and downright irritating to constantly be compared to what he considered to be a weak, pathetic, Bug type master wannabe. As far as Shinya was concerned, the best Bug type trainer in the world was his big bro and leader of Team Skull, Guzma. And given that Shinya learned everything he knew about Bug type Pokemon from Guzma, he aimed to prove that here and now.

Not only would Shinya defeat Bugsy and win himself his second Johto region gym badge, but he'd also do so in a way that would completely destroy Bugsy and teach him that he's nothing compared to Guzma or Team Skull. So, with all of that in mind, the first step was for Shinya to make a good first impression on the Azalea Town gym leader. To that end, rather than wait for the automatic sliding glass door to open and let him in, the trainer from Alola brought his right leg back, and with one good kick, he shattered the glass door to pieces, leaving hundreds of pieces of broken glass all over the gym floor. Surely the sound of the shattering glass was more than enough to gain the attention of anyone and everyone inside, as the green-haired young man walked right over the broken glass and into the gym. After that, Shinya looked all around, took a deep breath, and called out the true target of his destruction. "Yo, Bugsy! Crawl outta whatever tree you're hidin' in and face me, ya damn poser! And don't ya dare make me ask twice!"

Bugsy, the Gym Leader of Azalea Town, was in the middle of a quiet and serene moment in his beloved gym when the cacophonous sound of shattering glass pierced through the tranquility. His eyes widened in surprise as he abandoned his contemplative task, casting aside his butterfly net. The purple-haired Bug-type specialist had been meticulously observing a group of Caterpie as they meandered along a lush green vine.

He turned to face the source of the disruption, wearing an expression of both curiosity and amusement as Shinya, the boisterous challenger from Alola, swaggered into the gym with an irreverent entrance.

Shinya's aggressive introduction didn't ruffle Bugsy's calm demeanour. Instead, he broke into a friendly smile, looking every bit the bug enthusiast he was. His attire consisted of khaki shorts, a forest-green vest adorned with bug-themed patches, and sturdy hiking boots. Bugsy's gym mirrored his deep connection to Bug-type Pokémon. It resembled a lush, overgrown forest, with verdant vines, giant leaves, and insect-themed decorations adorning the walls. Insect habitats and enclosures were carefully arranged throughout the gym, providing a welcoming environment for Bug-type Pokémon and trainers alike.

"Ah, welcome," Bugsy greeted Shinya with a warm tone, his eyes shining with enthusiasm for the world of bugs. "I see you've made quite an entrance. Don't mind the glass, we have insect-surance for that. I must say, your timing is impeccable. I was just observing these Caterpie here."

Bugsy gestured toward the small group of Caterpie he had been watching. "Did you know that Caterpie are known for their resilient silk threads? They can spin them into strong cocoons when they evolve into Metapod and later, Butterfree. Truly remarkable creatures, don't you think?"

He approached Shinya, extending a hand in greeting. "You know, some people say Bug-types enthusiasts are just 'ant'-agonists, but I like to think we're misunderstood heroes of the Pokemon world. I've dedicated my life to these fascinating creatures, and I'm always up for a challenge. Let's make this a memorable showdown, shall we?"

Admittedly, Shinya was surprised by Bugsy's reaction to his entrance, looking at the other Bug type trainer like he was downright insane. Was Bugsy seriously smiling and acting friendly after someone literally just kicked his door down and called him out? Either he was the most tolerant person Shinya had ever met, or like Shinya previous thought, he was just downright insane. Unfortunately for the Azalea Town gym leader, his carefree attitude only served to worsen Shinya's attitude, as the trainer from Alola glared at the gym leader and waited for him to finally finish speaking. The more Bugsy rambled on about Caterpies, the more Shinya wanted to destroy him, slowly withdrawing a Pokeball from his bag when it sounded like Bugsy was almost done. Clearly, Bugsy failed to grasp the urgency of the matter, and Shinya was more than willing to demonstrate it to him further.

"Oh, for the love of Arceus! SHUT UP!" The Team Skull grunt raised his voice at the gym leader, not sounding even the least bit amused by anything he said so far. "First of all, your insect jokes ain't funny. Second of all, yeah, I know all about those pathetic little worms, but who doesn't? They ain't "remarkable" at all. In fact, they're the furthest thing from "remarkable". The only people who waste their time trainin' those puny scrubs are the weakest beginners around. I mean, c'mon. Why settle for those wimps when ya can have a Bug type like this one?" Giving Bugsy a demonstration to go along with his insults, Shinya tossed the Pokeball in his hand up into the air, letting out the Pokemon inside, which turned out to be Shinya's newest Bug type Pokemon. Sizzlipede.

The Radiator Pokemon appeared beside his trainer and had an even more intense glare than he did, his entire body already blisteringly hot and ready for battle. "Are we inside the gym, boss?! FINALLY! Just show me who ya want burnt to a crisp first! I'm ready for 'em! These weak, no-talent Bug types ain't got nothin' on me!" However, before fulfilling his Pokemon's request, Shinya slapped away the hand that Bugsy offered to him, then proceeded to spit down on the gym leader's right boot. "And third of all, I ain't no hero. And I'll prove it right here and now by destroyin' you, your pitiful Pokemon, and your gym." After making his declaration to Bugsy, the Alolan trainer glanced at Sizzlipede, deciding to start their trail of destruction with the Caterpies that Bugsy loved so much.

"Sizzlipede, use your Flame Wheel on those Caterpies over there. And make it a hot one." Shinya was definitely no hero, grinning a rather evil grin as he told his Pokemon to mercilessly attack a group of innocent Caterpies. "Yeah! Yeah! I see 'em, boss! They should make a good warm up for the real battle! Comin' in hot, ya little runts!" Coating his entire body in white hot flames, Sizzlipede rolled into a wheel, then sped towards the group of Caterpies that Bugsy gestured to a moment ago, slamming right into them like a bowling ball into some bowling pins. A flaming bowling ball. Not only that, but the Bug/Fire type's attack also managed to set fire to some of the greenery inside Bugsy's gym. Not exactly what Shinya was going for, but this extra surprise was definitely not unwelcome.

And before Bugsy or his Scyther could do anything to stop Sizzlipede's rampage, the green-haired trainer had already withdrawn a second Pokeball from his bag, tossing it up into the air as well. "Eyes forward, chumps! Let's see how your Scyther does against a real Scyther!" Indeed, the Pokemon that emerged from the second red and white sphere was Shinya's very own Scyther, but his was male, and didn't look anywhere near as friendly as Bugsy's did, glaring a very sharp glare at the other Mantis Pokemon. "So, the moment I've waited for has finally come. I thank you, boss. I'll destroy this sorry excuse for a Scyther with my own blades." Shinya's Scyther was definitely not messing around, crossing his blades and spreading his wings, ready to strike down Bugsy's Scyther and prove his superiority.

"Ya got that right, Scyther! These chumps ain't nothin' compared to Team Skull! Now, let's prove it! Now, hit 'em hard with your Wing Attack!" Continuing to show absolutely no mercy, Shinya called for the move in Scyther's arsenal that he knew would do the most damage to the opposition. "Understood. This shouldn't take very long." Flapping his wings rapidly, Scyther took off into the air and flew straight at Bugsy's Scyther, not slowing down or holding back even a little. As he did this, Sizzlipede stopped rolling around for a moment, taking the chance to admire his teammate's raw power and destructive force. "Yeah! Get 'em, Scyther! Do it! Make 'em cry!" And just in case all of this didn't make Shinya's point clear to Bugsy, he still had a few ideas left in stock. All of which were horribly cruel and incredibly destructive.

OOC: I appreciate the thread update, Professor Oak, but Shinya has a Heat Lamp. Therefore, his word count for eggs is increased to 600. As such, you still owe me 60 words from my last post for Shinya's Hawlucha egg. Additionally, this post has over 600 words in it. Bugsy had a hunch that this opponent would be coming off strong, but his response to his infested puns went sour. "You don't like my puns? Well, mister cool guy with cool bugs, even if you love different kinds of bug type Pokemon, you don't have to shoot down my jokes. It's already hard to find people who share commonalities with their love of bug types, but you could respond differently without putting me down. Plus, have a little fun! Life's too short to be serious all the time!" The walking bug encyclopedia sharply responded, hoping to persuade Shinya to see things differently about bug specialist trainers.

As if that wasn't enough, he was trying to send his Sizzlipede who was trying to attack his Caterpie, who wasn't even a Pokemon part of the gym challenge! "Hey, stop this now! That Caterpie wasn't part of the gym challenge! If you attack any more Pokemon that I didn't specifically call out to battle your Pokemon, I will have to disqualify you immediately." He hollered, but decided to not wait for the trainer to holler at his own rampaging Pokemon. With a call of his Pokemon, the Scyther quickly slapped the Sizzlipede to turn it around, and then disappeared into a blur into the greenery layout of the gym. Now to deal with the surprise fire, he shouted at his assistant to turn on the sprinkler, and with a quick water spray or two, the fire was put out, and the whole gym was saved. The fire was uncalled for, but Bugsy had gave his warning. He wasn't going to have a challenger destroying the field or his non-gym Pokemon before the battle even started!

Then, the audacious Shinya also sent out a Scyther. Very uncommon, but that was the challenger's first Pokemon, and he would officially start the battle. "You got a Scyther too? That's really cool! They're hard to find already, and hard to catch! All Scythers are real to me, and only fake ones are the ones form by Ditto! Well, we're going to give it our best too! Scyther, Dual Wingbeat!" Bugsy shouted his order, and sighed a breath of relief as the battle finally started.

The bold and cocky challenger's Scyther was a little faster, and his wings glowed a brilliant bright color as he slammed onto his own Scyther. Thankfully, the mantis flew away and chewed on a Sitrus Berry that it was holding, restoring its health from the juicy recovery. Then, his own Scyther charged forward, slamming the Scyther with its own two wings as it rotated its body left and right. It was a battle of wings, essentially. With a sharp cry of pain, the challenger's Scyther fell to the floor, unconscious from the Scyther's powerful wing slamming technique.

"Not bad! Your Scyther is a champ for that Wing Attack. I don't usually battle another trainer's Scyther!" He complimented enthusiastically, praising the other Scyther's effort.

"What was your first clue?" Shinya responded to Bugsy's first question with a rhetorical one, maintaining his current attitude and demeanor, then going on to respond to Bugsy's following comments. "And while I do kinda like bein' called "cool guy", the name's Shinya. Shinya Stinger. I ain't interested in findin' common ground with other Bug type trainers. Ya think ya got it rough? Try findin' new members for Team Skull, because that's WAY harder. And yeah, I agree. Which is why I'll be havin' loads of fun once you and all your pathetic Pokemon are on the ground, soaked in your own tears and other various bodily fluids. Are ya feelin' me, scrub?" The Alolan trainer asked another rhetorical question, grinning his usual grin and having complete and total confidence that his own Bug type Pokemon would be able to make that happen.

This confidence only grew when Bugsy fell prey to the trolling that Shinya and his Sizzlipede were conducting, destroying his gym and terrorizing his beloved Bug type Pokemon. Sizzlipede may have been batted away by the other Bug type specialist's Scyther, but both he and Shinya couldn't help chuckling at Bugsy's reaction just a bit. "You ain't the boss of me, scrub! Ya get it now?! We ain't here to make new friends or to play nice! And if ya really think disqualifyin' us will be enough to stop us, then you're even dumber than I originally thought! We're here to destroy ya! All of ya! Simple as that! Don't like it?! Well, that's too damn bad! In fact, I'd love to see ya try and stop us! Team Skull won't be beaten by a Bug type scrub like you!" Shinya and Sizzlipede chuckled a little more after that, but it seemed as though their confidence was rather premature.

Despite all the training and effort the Team Skull grunt had put into preparing his Pokemon for this long-awaited gym battle, his very first Pokemon was out in the very first round. Needless to say, this put a stop to all the grins, chuckling, and mockery right away, as Shinya fell completely silent at that moment. Surprisingly, Sizzlipede recovered from the shock of this cruel twist of fate before his trainer did, glaring and yelling at the opposition immediately after. "Rgh! Cheap shot! Stupid chumps! Ya just got lucky, that's all! But ya won't get that lucky again! The boss was just playin' with ya before, but now ya did it! No mercy!" The Radiator Pokemon was absolutely right, even with his young and still rather untrained eye. From what he and his trainer saw, at least one of Bugsy's Scyther's Dual Wingbeat attacks was definitely a critical hit.

With that in mind, Shinya didn't blame his Scyther. Not at all. It would be tough for any Pokemon to withstand a critical hit from a super effective move. Hopefully, Bugsy and his Pokemon wouldn't get that lucky again, but now that they had, Shinya had to quickly modify his strategy a bit. It took almost five minutes, but the green-haired trainer had come up with something, raising his head, grabbing a new Pokeball from his bag, and glaring at Bugsy and his female Scyther. "If there was any chance for me to show ya any mercy, it's gone now. You've called down the thunder, and it starts with this girl right here. You're up, Joltik! Give us some cover!" In a tone filled with anger and vengeance, Shinya tossed the Pokeball right at Bugsy, hitting the other trainer right in the nose.

After that, the red and white orb opened up, revealing Shinya's Clear Wing Pokemon, Yanma. The fluttering Pokemon looked all around, but before she could comment on her surroundings, Shinya gave her a set of orders. "I gotta get Scyther back in this battle, Yanma! Keep that other Scyther away from us until then!" As he gave Yanma her orders, the Alolan trainer ran over to his defeated Mantis Pokemon, withdrawing a Revival Herb from his bag as he did. Yanma didn't really get what was happening, but it did shock even her to see Scyther laying on the ground and unconscious. "Ah!...Scyther got taken down?...You got it, boss!" After quickly processing this shocking turn of events, Yanma faced Bugsy's Scyther, glaring her Compound Eyes down at the other Mantis Pokemon. "You're goin' down, ya big oaf! Think ya can get passed me?! Just try it!"

Of course, given that she possessed the exact same typing as Scyther, but had less defense, Shinya knew very well that Yanma likely wouldn't be able to withstand even a single round against Bugsy's Scyther, especially if they chose to use Dual Wingbeat again. Thankfully, that wasn't what she was here for. It did pain Shinya to basically use her as a shield, but desperate times called for desperate measures. Shinya fully intended to make it up to Yanma later on, but he couldn't let Scyther's battle end this way. He refused to allow his very first Pokemon get beaten by a member of his own species. And while Yanma was keeping Bugsy's Scyther at bay, Shinya reached his own Scyther, knelt down beside him, and fed him the Revival Herb. The bitter taste of the herb was more than enough to rouse Scyther, as he swallowed the herb then looked back at his trainer.

"...I'm sorry, boss. I failed you. I failed Team Skull. If you can find it in your heart to forgive me, I swear to you that I will not fail again." Scyther's tone was filled with regret and remorse, as Shinya helped him back onto his feet and patted his back gently. "Nah. Ya didn't fail me or Team Skull, Scyther. Those scrubs just got lucky, that's all. But that's fine. Fortune has never favored Team Skull anyway, so we don't need it. We'll win this battle, and we'll do it with our own strength." Shinya proudly declared to his first ever Pokemon, still having faith that he could beat Bugsy's Scyther, win this battle, and get himself some revenge at the same time.

OOC: Just sent out Yanma and used a Revival Herb to heal Scyther up. Didn't do anything else in this post. Also, here's another 600 words for Shinya's Hawlucha egg. And with the 600 words from the last post, that should be more than enough to hatch it. Thanks.

Bugsy rubbed his face, having just been assaulted. This trainer...acted like everyone was out to get him. Like this was a fight for his life rather than an organized match. "Hey! You really need to quit attacking me as well as the uninvolved pokemon here in the gym," he said, using a firm voice. "This is a BATTLE for me to determine if you should be allowed to continue further in the Johto Gym challenge. I WILL disqualify you and then call the police if you persist on any excessive violence. This isn't some gang fight, Shinya. Learn to tell the difference." Honestly, he was getting off easy with a warning for his behavior thus far. Maybe it was because Bugsy was young and had a little faith that the other trainer was just an idiot kid who literally didn't understand the difference between a battle and fight for one's life. But it wasn't appropriate to attack people in a formal setting like this. There were rules. "Or would you rather your Team Skull or whatever fall because you didn't learn how not to hit people?"

He did look at the Yanma with a little fondness, however. He could appreciate a fellow bug catcher's love of pokemon, even if they were an excessively violent meathead that couldn't use common sense and tact.

"Hello there, little friend," he said softly to the dragonfly. "Your trainer is really /bugging out/ isn't he?" A laugh and a wince. His face really did hurt from getting by that pokeball. He rubbed his nose again, "Scyther, use dual wingbeat, I think this is our challenger's next pokemon."

Scyther, who was now standing defensively over her trainer, equally upset about this series of events, nodded and faced the yanma. 

<Does your trainer not understand how pokemon battles work? My trainer is not about to attack yours physically as yours has done mine.> The Scyther asked before vibrating her wings, sending the yanma tumbling back from the force of it.

Although Shinya's behavior was anything but acceptable, one could argue that it wasn't entirely Shinya's fault that he was this way. For one thing, he never had any real parents around to show him the difference between right and wrong. Honestly, it was kind of a miracle he didn't just up and mug people whenever he needed money or wanted something they had that he didn't. And for another thing, fighting for his life was pretty much the only way he knew how. Growing up with Team Skull wasn't exactly the safest environment for a child, and he's had to literally fight for his life more times than he cared to recall. Still, despite all of that, Shinya did bother to learn the Pokemon league rules and knew very well that Bugsy could make good on his warnings.

However, the Team Skull grunt still wasn't the type of person who'd start hesitating and back down, especially when the only family he had ever known was brought into the conflict. "Tch! Go ahead and do it then! I've been chased by the cops enough times to know how they work! Average police response time is roughly twenty to thirty minutes! And my Pokemon and I can reduce your entire gym to rubble in less than half that time! Plus, my Sizzlipede here knowns Smokescreen! One good puff of smoke, and those scrubs in blue will never find us, especially after we slip into the Ilex Forest, which is only a few short yards away! So, here's my counteroffer! Shut your damn mouth, man up, and have my badge ready for me after my Pokemon and I are done destroyin' ya!"

"I don't care if you are a gym leader! I don't need yours or anyone else's permission to keep doin' what I'm doin'! And Team Skull ain't gonna fall because some little chump like you has the nerve to threaten us!" The green-haired trainer glared and yelled at Bugsy, starting to get very tired of him and all of his rules. Although, a few short seconds after that, Shinya's facial expression softened, and a few chuckles escaped his lips, as a rather amusing thought suddenly crossed his mind and his usual grin returned to his face. "But ya know somethin'? Maybe "man up" wasn't the right choice of words. I mean, are you actually a man at all? Between that hair do, your petite frame, and that incredibly shrill voice, I honestly can't tell. So, which are ya, sissy?"

After that, Shinya, Sizzlipede, and Yanma all burst into a fit of laughter, unable to contain their amusement or mockery at Bugsy's expense. Even Shinya's Scyther found himself snickered a bit, holding one of his blades up to his mouth. "Ahahahahahahahahahah! The Scyther is a female, so maybe the trainer is too! Ahahahahahahahahah!" Sizzlipede commented in between his laughter, rolling back and forth on the ground while doing so and leaving a rather large scorch mark in the process. Team Skull found themselves laughing hysterically for a good five minutes until it finally started to hurt, and they were forced to stop. From there, Yanma listened to the questions that came her way from both Bugsy and Bugsy's Scyther, but those questions only made the Clear Wing Pokemon start glaring at them herself.

"You shut up, sissy! Nobody insults the boss! Nobody!" Yanma yelled at Bugsy, then literally spat in his face before turning towards Bugsy's Scyther and addressing her. "And you, the boss is way smarter and stronger than your sissy trainer could ever hope to be! Don't act like you understand what the boss has gone through in his life, because a pampered Pokemon who's been raised by a gym leader like you could never understand!" While Yanma was normally a rascally prankster, just like her trainer, she did still have a few buttons. And one of them was definitely whenever anyone dared to insult her beloved trainer, even if they weren't actually intending to do so.

Once again, the Alolan trainer found himself smiling, very happy and flattered to have one of his faithful Pokemon companions fighting so hard for him. Whether it be with words or attacks. And speaking of attacks, it was at that point when Shinya decided to finally resume the battle. "Well, there ya have it, sissy! Team Skull may not respect gym leaders or your stupid rules, but we've always got each other's backs! We may not be heroes, but we'll be the ones comin' out on top in the end! Don't like that?! Too bad! Use Gust, Yanma! Blow these scrubs away!" Both Shinya and Yanma knew that if Yanma took one more Dual Wingbeat from Bugsy's Scyther, she'd go down for sure, but that didn't matter to either of them. Even if the whole world was against them and viewed them as evil, Team Skull always gave it their all for their comrades. "I'm all over it, boss! And that's exactly what Yanma did, spreading all four of her wings, and whipping up the strongest Gust attack she could, sending it right at Bugsy's Scyther.

Your current path spells nothing but disaster.> The scyther replied calmly as the other pokemon began to raise a riot and spilling insults and posturing as if they were nothing more than hooligans who couldn't hold a normal conversation to save their lives. Regardless of whose fault it was that Shinya was this way, his behavior wasn't acceptable or tolerable by most normal people. <Despite your trainer's evident age, he acts like a child of half as many years. Still throwing tantrums and making threats, hitting people when he doesn't get his way. It's pitiful. And you all enable him. Then again, perhaps, being bound to him makes you pitiful in the same way.> She crossed her scythes and was blown back by the gust that hit her. Typically she wasn't this chatty, but usually her home and her fellows weren't menaced like this.

She had battled hundreds of times, and it was rare that she saw someone with such...nonexistent social skills and so much anger in them. So much brazen fire and contempt for life. He was the sort that was rotten to his core, from her perspective. 

<One day...you will be alone again.> She murmured. <Perhaps because he has abandoned you for something stronger. A sharper knife to cut the throats of those he bullies. Or perhaps because he has picked a fight with someone who is as ready to burn the world down as he...and is stronger. This is no way to live. But alas, my words fall on deaf ears, I suspect. Humans...fickle humans...like zebstrika they cannot change their stripes in the end.>

Scyther then retaliated with a swift dual-wing beat.

Behind her, Bugsy was looking entirely disappointed with this whole affair. All Shinya had to do was behave himself for ten minutes and not threaten to burn the gym down. Was this guy raised by an arsonist in some Rocket warehouse somewhere? 

"..." He was in a gym full of plants and trees where people frequently brought fire types to battle. This place had a fire suppression system worthy of the gods. "You do realize that the villains /lose/ in all those stories involving heroes, right? That's their purpose. To be nothing more than an obstacle...that's not a great way to live, bud. So seriously, quit bugging out and threatening me for no reason. It's impressing no one."

"Oh no. We grasp simple concepts. We just don't got any of that stuff for you. See how that works?" Shinya cut into the conversation between Pokemon, doing so in the same rude tone of voice he'd been using since he arrived at Bugsy's gym. He then went on to address the other things that came from Bugsy's Scyther's mouth, not liking them one bit, but still kept his cool. "Also, ya can take your pity and go shove it. As we've said, ya wouldn't understand our lives or what we've had to go through. All we ever get from you "normal" people and Pokemon is contempt and pity, but didn't ask for any of that stuff, so stop givin' it, would ya? Why do ya think we destroy people and Pokemon in the first place? It's because they refuse to get down off their high Mudsdales and see things from our perspective. So, we'll happily knock all of ya down and see how ya feel then."

Shinya's own Scyther also chimed in, refusing to just sit by while the very trainer who raised him was being belittled and insulted by someone who knew next to nothing about him. "While it is true that the boss' team used to have a Pinsir, a Heracross, a Shelmet, and a Dwebble on it, it's not like he just threw them all away. You may not believe it, but the boss cares deeply about all of us on Team Skull. Do you know where our fellow Pokemon are now? They're all back home in the Alola region, living happy lives with all of the boss' brothers and sisters. Nobody on Team Skull ever just gets thrown away or forgotten. Did it sadden all of them to leave the boss' team? Of course, it did. But we all know that in order for the boss to achieve his dream, he needs the best team possible. The leader of Team Skull shouldn't have anything but the best on his team. We all understand that, and we respect it. Even if the entire world views the boss as evil, we'll all continue to stand by him. No matter what."

Scyther's tone was overflowing with admiration and respect, as he stood proudly beside his trainer with unwavering resolve. Those kind words caused Yanma and Sizzlipede to smile proudly themselves, nodding in full agreement with their mantis teammate. It also caused Shinya to smile too, as he reached over and gently patted Scyther's left shoulder. "Tch. Look at us. Gettin' all sentimental in front of the chumps we came to destroy. Still, thanks, pal. And for the record, no matter how much my team changes, you'll always be a part of it." Scyther smiled right back at his trainer after that, as the Metal Coat he was holding began to shine a bit, though no one noticed it at the time. After that, all eyes were on Bugsy again, listening to what he had to say next, but Shinya was in such a good mood that all he did before responding was chuckle a little bit more.

"Ya know, you two might call us naive, but it sounds to me like you two are the naive ones here. "Like a Zebstrika, fickle humans can't change their stripes". "It's the villain's purpose to lose in all those stories". HA! First of all, are you a Scyther or a Skorupi? Everyone can change their nature. It's what defines all living creatures who possess intelligence. Ya think all bad guys just started out bad? Heck no. Somethin' happened in their lives to lead 'em down that path. I've seen it many times in Team Skull. Sad to say, but life ain't fair. And it takes way more than it gives. And secondly, this ain't some lame story where everything is scripted. This is real life. And bad things happen in real life. Kinda like what we're gonna do to you." The Alolan trainer maintained his smile and calm demeanor as he spoke, thinking back to all the reasons his bros' and sis' gave for why they joined Team Skull in the first place. To be frank, some of their backstories were anything but pretty.

But one thing that was pretty was Yanma, even as she was being defeated by Bugsy's Scyther. Still, even in the face of defeat, she smiled, knowing that she played her part to perfection. "Alright, Scyther! The rest is up to you!" The Clear Wing Pokemon yelled out as she fell, but before she hit the ground, Scyther flew over and caught her, smiling down at her. "Thank you, Yanma. I owe you one." Shinya then called Yanma back to her Pokeball for some rest, then he and Scyther faced Bugsy and his Scyther once more, ready for some payback. "I'm tired of hearin' these chumps talk down to us! Let's shut 'em up for good, Scyther! Hit 'em as hard as ya can with another Wing Attack!" Glaring right at the opposing Mantis Pokemon, Scyther spread his wings once more, taking flight and heading straight for his foe. All the while, the Metal Coat on his person continued to shine, almost as if it was resonating with Team Skull's feelings and hinting at a possible development in the very near future.

The weary scyther shook her head and by this time, even Bugsy was tuning out of Shinya's excuses and declarations about how he was totally justified in his behavior and how everyone else just looked down on them, blah, blah, blah. At this point, Bugsy just wanted this maniac out of his gym. If Shinya wanted to go down this path, it wasn't any of his business, really, to try to stop him. He wasn't a cop. He was just here to do a job, and Shinya had finally stopped being an absolute menace now that he was monologuing. No more attacking uninvolved pokemon. No more trying to smash Bugsy's face in with pokeballs. That was all he asked for and wanted from this guy. He could go commit arson somewhere else and tell himself that he was the better person at the end of the day. 

Hn. His nose was going to probably be bruised after this. Dang. Maybe he should get an ice pack after this battle?

"Scyther, dual wing beat again," he called out. But she was unfortunately just a hair slower than the higher level scyther and was knocked back and forced to take a knee. Out. "You did good, old friend. Time for the others to have their turn." It was then that he sent out a metapod without much fanfare. Just get through this battle, Bugsy. Just get him out of here.

As the two Scyther's continued to clash, Shinya looked over at Bugsy once more and recognized the expression upon his face right away. It was one that Shinya had seen quite a bit during his years with Team Skull, and it brought him more than a little satisfaction to see it upon the gym leader's face. "Oh yeah. I know that look. Finally, outta things to say, huh? Good. I'd rather have the silent treatment than listen to more preachin' from that incredibly shrill voice of yours anyway. I've been the way that I am for most of my life, and it's gonna take a lot more than a sissy Bug type gym leader wannabe in cargo shorts to get me to change my ways." The Alolan trainer made his declaration in a tone filled with pride and satisfaction, maintaining a grin to go along with those emotions the entire time he spoke.

Then, at the exact moment he finished speaking, Bugsy's Scyther was knocked right out of the air and out of the battle, while Shinya's Scyther landed safely on their side of the battlefield. "It is done. This one won't be getting back up anytime soon." Scyther stated proudly, as he looked down at the unconscious female of his own species. And just like that, the tables had turned in this gym battle. A fact that Shinya was quick to comment on. "I know you've still got your Metapod and Kakuna, but those two Pokemon are even bigger scrubs than you are. Without your Scyther, the rest of this gym battle will be easy pickin's." The green-haired trainer continued to look down on Bugsy, not even the slightest bit worried about the possibility of being defeated by his pair of Cocoon Pokemon.

And as if losing his partner Pokemon wasn't bad enough, things took a turn for the worse for Bugsy when the Metal Coat that Shinya's Scyther was holding started to shine even brighter, and the light quickly enveloped Scyther's entire body. Seeing this, Sizzlipede's eyes widened, and he let out a gasp, as this was the first time he got the chance to witness this phenomenon. "Woah!...Hey, boss, is this what I think it is?!" Before answering his Pokemon, Shinya' grin got even bigger, and a few more chuckles escaped from his lips. "Perfect. It's a shame Yanma had to be defeated to make this possible, but I'd say it was well worth it. I knew he was finally ready to evolve." The Team Skull grunt had waited a long time for this moment, and now that it was finally here, he could barely contain his excitement, not daring to look away from his first Pokemon for even a second.

In the midst of the bright light, Scyther grew in size and changed his form, until the light finally faded away and a brand new Pokemon took his place, his entire body covered in bright red, metallic armor. Scyther had evolved into Scizor right before the eyes of every person and Pokemon present, crossing his new pincers and taking a moment to get used to his new body. "So, tell us. How do ya feel, partner?" Shinya asked his newly evolved Pokemon, then waited in silence to hear what his answer would be. However, before he answered, Scizor decided to give his newfound strength a test drive, spreading his wings, flying right over Bugsy's head, and in one quick motion, chopping down four of the trees that Bugsy had planted inside his gym. Those trees then fell to the ground, while Scizor stood tall, gaining a grin of his own, similar to the one his trainer wore. "I feel...stronger. So much stronger."

The Pincer Pokemon's answer made Shinya nod proudly, as he withdrew a new Pokeball from his bag and pressed the button on it. "Excellent. Now that you've evolved, we can start gettin' bolder. Take bigger risks for bigger rewards and expand Team Skull's influence that much further." As Shinya spoke, he turned to face Bugsy and his Metapod once again, tossing the Pokeball in his grip up into the air, sending out his next Pokemon to face Bugsy's in battle. "But first, we gotta finish destroyin' these scrubs! So, c'mon out, Anorith! It's your turn!" The Old Shrimp Pokemon appeared on the battlefield, with Shinya's Amulet Coin on her back, as she let out a yawn and her eyes slowly opened. "...What's this now?...Are we in the gym? Ugh...I can't stand physical activity, but whatever...Let's just wrap this up so I can go back to sleep."

Anorith was even less impressed by Bugsy and Metapod than her trainer was, letting out another, even longer yawn, as she eyed the green Cocoon Pokemon. Luckily for her, she had the clear advantage in this battle, already having a pretty good idea of what Shinya's first order would be. "Yup! We're inside the Azalea Town gym, Anorith! But our work here is almost done! Between your rocks and Sizzlipede's fire, that badge is as good as ours! Show these scrubs what I'm talkin' about! Use Rock Slide and burry that loser Bug type alive!" Shinya gave the order, and it was exactly the one that Anorith was expecting, as she raised both her claws up as high as she could. "Yeah, yeah...I'm on it, boss. This shouldn't take too long..." A few seconds later, large boulders began to materialize directly above Metapod, poised to crush the hard-shelled Bug type if they made contact.

With scyther down, there really was no way to win this. But he supposed that the sooner this was over, the sooner this annoyance was gone. Honestly, he had ten year olds that were better behaved than Shinya in his gym daily. Ignoring his rambles and rants to his pokemon, Bugsy waited for Shinya to choose a pokemon to send out. His choice was very different. He was of a mind to remark on it, but he wasn't inclined to get screamed at again for daring compliment a bug pokemon that he found interesting or remarkable. He rubbed his temple. 

He was getting a nasty headache from all of this.

Keep your cool, Bugsy. 

(No matter how tempting it was to decline Shinya his badge for poor behavior and sportsmanship, he honestly didn't want the man coming back here and possibly traumatizing a child in the lobby.)

"Metapod, use harden," he said. "Brace yourself."

But the Anorith was just a smidge faster and the rock slid was on target. He sighed and returned the cocoon. Breezily ignoring whatever Shinya spouted off in response to his victory, he sent out his kakuna next. 

Kakuna-Matata, what a wonderful phrase. It means no worries, for the rest of your daaaaays~

"Our bug off is almost over," he murmured, mostly to himself.

As disrespectful as Shinya was, he was definitely no fool. Just as he predicted, one well-placed Rock Slide from his Anorith was all it took to knock Bugsy's Metapod right out of the battle. With that, the gym leader was down to his last Pokemon, and Shinya still had five Pokemon remaining. However, one of those Pokemon was a newly hatched Hawlucha that he was planning to transfer over to an aspiring new trainer later that same day. Not only that, but the Alolan trainer's Joltik was currently at level 26 and would therefore disobey most, if not all, the orders that he gave her. And with their recent rise in levels, both Scizor and Anorith were now in the same boat.

Fortunately for the Team Skull grunt, he still had one Pokemon left that was not only low enough leveled, but also had a very obvious type advantage over the Cocoon Pokemon. That was the Radiator Pokemon that had been present since before the actual gym battle even began and was now itching to see some action himself. Sizzlipede. Although, one thing that Shinya hadn't counted on was Bugsy's Kakuna to start singing, causing Shinya, Scizor, and Sizzlipede to gain rather puzzled looks upon their faces as a result. Anorith seemed to enjoy the Bug/Poison type's tune though, letting out another yawn before curling up and allowing herself to be lulled back to sleep by said tune. "...Sounds like a good problem free philosophy to me...I won my battle...Now, good night..."

Several seconds later, Shinya and his other two conscious Bug type Pokemon regained their composures, and Shinya let out a small sigh as he called Anorith back to her Pokeball. "Kind of a dated reference, but whatever. The classics are cool, but the newer stuff can be just as hot." Shinya made a little joke, regaining his grin once more as he glanced down at the Bug/Fire type beside him. "Your time is here at last, Sizzlipede. Go give these chumps a good burnin'." Those were the words that Sizzlipede had longed to hear from the moment he popped out of his Pokeball inside the gym, looking up at his trainer with a huge amount of excitement in his eyes, which quickly turned into a fiery glare when he turned to face Bugsy and his final Pokemon. "Oh, heck yeah! It's here! It's here at last! It's finally my turn! Watch me, boss! You too, Scizor! I'll show these chumps what it's like to be burned by words and flames at the same time!"

Both trainer and Pokemon chuckled as Sizzlipede rolled out onto the battlefield, his entire body burning and glowing with intense, red-hot flames. Scizor made sure to observe this battle very closely as well, spreading his wings and quickly flying back over to Shinya's side before Shinya gave his next set of orders. "I'd say you've got plenty to worry about, ya tone deaf pod! This is the end of your days! Sizzlipede, let loose with your strongest Flame Wheel! And when you're done, hit 'em again with another round!" With his orders given, Sizzlipede turned up the heat even higher, causing even the "fireproof" tiles on the gym floor beneath him start to melt and boil. "KAKUNA-MATATA THIS!" The Radiator Pokemon rolled into a red-hot wheel of raging flames, then sped across the floor towards Kakuna, leaving a trail of destruction in his wake.

The jolly kakuna didn't stand a whisper of a chance. It was humming along when the battle started, and when the fire came barreling towards it, it tried its best to bolster its meager defenses. BAM! If it was a little faster, it could have perhaps thrown up the Iron Defense before being hit and bought some time, but such was not meant to be. The metapod held on for the first attack, but that second one finished it off before it could do much else. 

Bugsy returned the kakuna and nodded.

He was relieved that his gym was in one piece.

If a little charred from the earlier assault. His face was puffy now, the swelling setting in from the pokeball hitting him.

"Here is your earnings, your badge and the TM for U-Turn. You can use cut outside of battle," Bugsy said hurriedly, just tossing the things to Shinya. "Now out. You're not welcome back. Please leave." Shinya was, as promptly as possible, herded out of the gym with his winnings. Any attempts at more fire would be met with the fire suppression system, and any threats would be met with a locked door. Please go away. You have what you want.

Team Skull had done it. Shinya and his Pokemon had beaten Bugsy, and the gym leader's final Pokemon had gone up in smoke. It was big, satisfied grins all around on Team Skull's side of the battlefield, with Shinya, Scizor, and Sizzlipede taking a few minutes to really relish their latest victory. Despite a few difficulties, Shinya thought it was fairly safe to say that he had finally proven who the better Bug type trainer was between the two of them. And while his methods may have been frowned upon by society, the green-haired trainer didn't care one bit. In fact, his one and only regret for this gym battle was that he and his Pokemon didn't get to cause even more havoc than they already did. Still, this would have to do, as Shinya and the rest of Team Skull had better places to be and other things to do.

As expected, Bugsy's voice wasn't sounding quite the same as it did when the battle first began, but what else could be expected of his currently swollen face. It did cause Shinya and his Pokemon to chuckle a bit more though, as he caught the items that Bugsy threw his way and tucked them away in his bag for later use. "Tch. We're done here anyway. Be sure to tell all your friends and your future challengers what happened today though. And that Team Skull were the ones who did this to ya." The Alolan trainer just couldn't resist opening his mouth just one more time before recalling his two Pokemon and heading for the door, which was still shattered to pieces and therefore couldn't be locked. Fortunately for the gym leader, Shinya had absolutely no plans to turn around.

However, as he exited the gym, one more thought crossed Shinya's mind, and he just couldn't resist following through with it. With a very mischievous grin upon his face, Shinya grabbed a can of black spray paint from his bag, opened it up, and proceeded to leave his mark on the outside of Bugsy's gym. Literally. Graffiti was another thing that Team Skull was quite well known for, so it was no surprise that Shinya himself was quite skilled at it. After a few short minutes of painting, the Bug type trainer's artwork was complete. He had spray painted Team Skull's emblem right on the front of Bugsy's gym, along with a note that read "Team Skull was here! Bugsy's a loser!" in big black letters. Chuckling triumphantly, Shinya placed the spray paint can back into his bag, then walked off, Hive Badge in hand, and bound for his next path of destruction.
