There were old tracks buried underneath the leaf littered that lined the forest floor. Mishu bent down and gently brushed the brittle foliage out of the way, causing some to crumble by her touch along while most were easily moved. She marveled, quietly studied the stamped hoof prints that weathered from old age. Many were disconnected from their original trails, covered over by growth and fresher prints from the many Pokemon that called the forest around them their home. She grumbled softly underneath her lips with a strong frown, narrowing her eyes skeptically as she focused on the tracks quietly.
After some deliberation, the thirty-year-old educator would push herself up onto her feet once more. She pressed her ebony palms with her fingers outstretched wide against the dusty, grassy ground below and bent her knees so that she could spring back up into a standing position. They weren’t around the area from what Mishu could gather by the tracks alone. It might be probable to still find a straggler if she searched and combed every inch of the forest around her, but it was nearly impossible to hope that they still remained. What drove them here in the first place, she wondered? A mystery that Mishu wasn’t so sure she’d readily get a reply to, considering how old the last known tracts and fecal remains looked to be.
Something scurried along her pant leg, causing Mishu to almost jump. She laughed when her amber eyes sparkled and noticed the tiny green caterpillar with its bright red antennae scooting up the side of her leg. It was determined, running as fast as its little body could carry it, and had sent a strange sensation crawling up Mishu’s spine from the feeling of its scooting so alone. “Look at you!” She giggled, shaking her head as she reached down to scoop it up in her hands and gently lift up onto a low hanging branch in a nearby tree. “I don’t think you want to tag along with us. Trust me.” Mishu promised her hitchhiker with a soft wink.
“Yeah, you don’t want to join us.” A black-and-brown sandy looking crocodile scooted up the base of the tree in pursuit of their newest acquaintance. So many things that chased after them or tried to attack them. He was just happy to see another Pokemon who didn’t seem to mean them any real harm. He would try to gently nudge the young Caterpie with the end of his snout and gesture towards all the bright evergreen leaves around them in the young sapling. “There won’t be as many tasty snacks where we’re going anyways. We’re just passing through, we’re sorry if we disturbed you.” He added with a wide and friendly smile.

The Caterpie squirmed and wriggled in Mishu's gentle grasp, its small form trembling as it was lifted and placed delicately onto the nearby branch. Its translucent body undulated and its vibrant red antennae quivering with a mix of curiosity and trepidation. As it settled on the leafy perch, it cast a cautious eye towards Wanigara, who inched ever closer, his smile a deceptive display of friendliness. The Caterpie's instincts prickled with a faint echo of a warning - a whisper from the forest muttered, " Never smile at a crocodile." Yet, in its innocence, it held a flicker of hope that perhaps Wanigara meant no harm, despite the encroaching proximity. But in the blink of an eye, Wanigara's demeanor shifted. His smile, once seemingly warm, contorted into something altogether more sinister. The Caterpie's sensory antennae twitched wildly, a panicked surge of energy coursing through its fragile frame as Wanigara lunged forward with alarming speed. In that fleeting moment, time seemed to stretch, and the Caterpie felt a surge of frigid darkness enveloping it. Wanigara's Pursuit attack struck true, shrouding the Caterpie in an eerie, numbing embrace before everything dissolved into darkness. The forest spirits, ever watchful, whispered mournful laments as they converged, bearing the fallen Caterpie away into the depths of the leaf litter. There, amidst the layers of foliage and the earth's embrace, the tiny creature disappeared from sight, leaving only a faint, fleeting memory of its brief existence.
