{ } There were few things Andrew enjoyed about the cold weather; for one it was the perfect excuse to sit by a crackling fire with the flames tickling your skin as you held your palms open toward them. The hearty roasts were always the best meal to have when your body needs the warmth. And cuddling close with your fluffy companions helps to build your bond.
However, Andrew was without all of these since coming to a new region and leaving his old Pokémon to stay with his family in Sinnoh. He had arrived in New Bark Town late the night prior and spent most of the dark hours shivering in a ball, huddled against the trunk of the largest tree he could find. Once the sun finally returned to shed light upon the town, Drew arose from his snowy bed and stepped into the cold shine. It won't take long, though, for the rays to warm considerably and the white blanket to reflect that heat to him.
Heavy boots dragged through the crunchy powder that covered the ground as he navigated through the somewhat empty town. Though that was to be expected on a chilly morning such as this, most would prefer to be indoors. Still there was the odd movement among the bushes as his glance shifted with each step. Hands rumbled in his pocket subtly before he pulled out his cigarettes. One is brought up to his mouth and held between two chapped lips. There it waits for the warm lick of a flame, but it never came. The hesitation is prolonged when Andrew's eyes land on an empty brown shell.
A fresh layer of soft, white particles faintly coat the somewhat out of place structure. After Drew approached the protruding mound, his hand softly patted the light dusting of snow to reveal a Squirtle's shell when he was abruptly shot in the face by a jet of water. The sudden attack resulted in a sudden jump back from the detective as he scrambled to wipe his face. "Urkh!" An initial cough is emitted as his gag reflex pushed back the urge to spit the water in his throat back out "What the-"
Carefully he moved to his hands and knees to better look at this thing. Previously thought to be empty, it's revealed to have a pair of eyes that glare holes into him from within the dark confines of the shell. "..A Pokémon?" Drew muttered to himself aloud. Hands are stretched out to grasp the creature and keep it at eye level as he rose to his feet once again. "Then... I wonder.." Who you belong to is the thought that is finished internally when he glanced around for any nearby houses.
There isn't many options, but the best bet would be to check the largest building where the professor resides. Surely he'd know all that happens in town. At the very least he could check out this little water-spitter and ensure her health is under control. | Squirtle: Somewhat Healthy

It was nice of Andrew to consider helping the Squirtle, or at least the humans that were likely looking for the small turtle. Still tucked into its shell, the eyes seemed to wiggle a little bit, as if the Pokemon was shivering. Cold temperatures could be tough for certain types of Pokemon, especially if they weren't used to some conditions.
Just as the newcomer to Johto was about to head to the building, the door to the building in question popped open and a woman bundled up to her eyeballs in clothing took a tentative step out, as if she was stepping onto the moon instead of the front lawn.
"Squirtle!" she yelled, her voice muffled by the thick, fluffy scarf that was wrapped around her neck. "This isn't funny, you obnoxious little water type," she grumbled, holding her hand up to her eyes to block out the sun glare in her vision. Turning, looking like a snowman stuck in one spot, she noticed Andrew and took a few steps forward, the snow crunching under her boots.
"Good morning! Excuse me, have you seen a Squirtle around here? The one that lives in the lab is missing and it has a habit of sneaking out. We are expecting a new group of trainers this morning and Professor Elm wants to give the Pokemon a final checkup." she asked, before looking around and noticing the brown shell.
"Oh my Arceus, thank goodness. Squirtle, why would you do that?" she scolded the young starter, but got no response from the Pokemon. "Has it been bothering you?" the lab assistant asked Andrew, her tone changing now that she had found the Pokemon that she was looking for.

{ } The slight flicker of light reflecting from Squirtle's eyes was enough of an indication to let Andrew know of her predicament. In response, the detective only brought the shell closer and pressed it into his shirt to encourage a speedy temperature rise. He'd just arrived at the laboratory when the door burst open before he could even reach the handle and the silence was interrupted. It was hard to understand what she was mumbling at first, as she seemingly was talking to herself.
His head lowered to one side when their eyes met and she approached, words now becoming audible as she spoke of a Squirtle. Well, he was just squirted in the face by an aquatic creature... It was an easy assumption for him to deduce the creature he held might just be a Squirtle. But whether it was the one specifically she was searching for was still hard to understand. Ah, Professor Elm, she must work with him. As she continued to speak, a soft smile stretched his lips. He makes a small adjustment to his arms to reveal the Squirtle in his capture.
Andrew only found the lack of response amusing, his eyes lowered to the creature upon hearing her ask the question. He's not one to speak to Pokémon with the expectation of receiving a reply, simply because he's aware they are not capable of forming words. Still, he finds it cute whenever people do talk to them as if they could. His head shakes slowly before his eyes lift to match her gaze. "Nah, it wasn't any trouble. I just woke up and saw it in the snow... Thought I'd try to return it to its owner if it even has one. I'm a detective, so it kinda comes with the job to help out anyone in need."
His arms moved methodically as he attempted to pass the turtle to the lady. "Say..." He began, a hand lifted to rub behind his neck as he contemplated the right way to ask. "You uh, well, what I mean is.. How closely do you work with Professor Elm?" He'd already assumed as much but still might be polite to ask, and it would be an easy link to connect to his major issue to solve. Being in a new region with no Pokémon to help him traverse the long grass was a predicament he'd like to have solved immediately. "I only ask because I sorta need a Pokémon.." He mumbled and averted his gaze. | Squirtle: Somewhat Healthy

The bundled up lab assistant took the squirtle into her arms and then blinked back at Andrew, smiling softly, "I see." Her whole expression and demeanor was a little less tense now that she knew Andrew wasn't too upset about being drenched while it was literally snowing outside. "Well sir, if you're in need of a pokemon, you're at the right place. All new trainers may register in Elm's lab if they wish, and even if you do so, we will outfit you with a starter and everything else you need to begin a journey, including an ID and some pokeballs." She turned, "Follow me?"
Assuming he did, she would lead the way into the building that seemed to loom tall above the others in sleepy little New Bark. It was warm and dry inside the lab, and she encouraged him to hang up his coat to dry as they spoke to the professor. All the while she carried the fussy squirtle around. She would lead Andrew to where Elm was working, surrounded by scattered papers and looking a bit flustered. He was muttering about missing pokemon and looked up with surprise and relief upon seeing the squirtle.
"Thank arceus! You found them," he said. "That just leaves one more missing pokemon after that break in..."
"This one looks like it wandered off in the chaos rather than was taken."
"I would agree, its pokeball is still here...unlike the chikorita..." Elm rubbed his head, grimacing a little, before looking to Andrew, "Oh! Hello there. I'm terribly sorry, if you had an appointment, I must have forgotten. It has been...quite the morning. Are you looking for a starter or were you here for some other business?"
"He's looking for a starter," the assistant piped up. "He was also the one who found our runaway."
"I see! Well, you are at the right place. My name is Professor Elm, and I'd be happy to help you get registered and on your way. Do you have a pokemon in mind you would like to start your journey with?"

{ } He couldn't hide the automatic response of his face scrunching slightly and teeth clenching at her suggestion to register as a trainer. It was never his desire to use his partners for battle. That always came second to him. His previous experience with Pokemon battles left a lot to be desired. Perhaps he needed more training or some guidance. And who better to give guidance than a professor of Pokemon?
"Mm.." Was the only response he could muster before his boots were brushed against the welcome mat to remove any snow before he continued indoors. It didn't feel much warmer there either, as the place was mostly built from tiles. His eyes scanned for details from what he could see; an ink sketch of a lizard-looking creature with a leaf protruding from its head was pinned on the wall. Three images hung by magnets on a whiteboard, each a different colour, though they all resembled reptilian creatures in their own way. The blue image looked remarkably similar to the Pokemon he'd pulled from the snow.
Professor Elm turned from a pile of discarded papers, some showed reports and documentation of statistics of sorts, too far for Andrew to directly focus or make words from. A soft smile tugged at Drew's lips as he was greeted. "Ah... Yeah, I can see that" He agreed, while not trying to sound crude or harsh in any way. It was simply what he saw; a messy morning for the unfortunate individual.
Upon being asked which Pokemon he'd like to start with, Andrew's eyes drifted to the side where he'd seen the three images. They were hung above their own red and white sphere. Drew assumed that they resembled the Pokemon that were already safely tucked away in each ball. "Well..." He began thinking aloud. "To be honest, I don't know much about these particular Pokemon... Do you mind telling me about each one?"
Andrew would listen to the Professor when he began to describe each of the starters, and once being mentioned by name, the Squirtle's head protruded from its shell. Limbs would follow and it waved its arms to escape the assistant's grasp. A little scuffle followed as it attempted to flee once again. It ran as fast as its little legs would carry it toward the laboratory door. Hearing the assistant gradually reducing the gap between them, Squirtle would jump and spin. It was a simple movement, but one such gesture allowed her to be face-to-face with the human who desperately wanted her back in the Pokeball. This allowed her to spray a jet of water in her face before it could continue its escape with her pursuer now fussing about her hair and eyes.
Andrew, having watched this entire ordeal, turned back to Elm with brows pushed together. "If I can catch that one again, I'll keep it. How does that sound?" Maybe it was a stretch to say he'd catch it again since he barely caught it the first time by pure luck he'd happened upon it. But maybe luck would stay by his side in this venture. | Squirtle: Somewhat Healthy

Elm chuckled at Andrew's suggestion, "Fond of the little squirtle already, huh? Here. This is their ball. If you can catch it and convince it to join you on your travels, then you may take it with you. The fact you were able to hold it when it keeps slipping away from my assistant is rather telling." He pat Andrew's shoulder and also handed him a little bag. "These are also for you, to help on your journey here, since you don't have very many pokemon yet and might meet some along your travels that you'd like to bring along." As Andrew at last followed the squirtle, he would see said squirtle bold for the door...which when pulled open to let Andrew through, he would see a Sentret pouncing on the squirtle, as if it give them a biiiiig hug! <Play?!> the young pokemon chittered. It would try to roll squirtle over into a nearby snow bank, ears flicking, tail swishing. Though to an outsider, it was really easy to mistake this playful behavior as aggression, as the sentret kept growling and fluffing up before swiping at the squirtle to try to get it to keep paying attention! { } A soft movement of his head nodding follows as Andrew grabs the bag and multiple items from the professor. Perhaps he was still just as much of a bumbling idiot when the building hadn't been ransacked. It's an easy assumption for Andrew to make that it made this Professor an easy target to rob. After retrieving his new inventory, Andrew doesn't waste any time to follow behind the little water dweller outside. He rushes past the assistant too fast to even offer a thank you or any comment regarding her predicament. He could easily spot the water dripping from her hair despite the little time it took for him to get out the door. Immediately he was taken aback when a brown furry creature lunged at the Squirtle. Andrew took a precautionary step back to stop his body from falling, his leg bracing himself as he watched the tail bush up and ears fold toward the Squirtle. The new animal was evidently making itself look bigger, which was a sign of aggression. Andrew inhaled a breath and stepped between the two. But it didn't result in much, only having the Sentret growl for intimidation.'Damn... I just got outside and this big human keeps following me. Now he's interrupting this other 'mon?' Squirtle's eyes rolled when this strange human stepped between them and blocked the Sentret from approaching closer. She watched as Andrew dove at Sentret, and the brown creature reacted by fleeing into Route 29 and up a tree. She turns to follow after her new friend but is grabbed by this human. 'He's faster than I thought!' A spout of water erupted from her mouth as she spits yet more water at her captor to get free once again. 'This is so exhausting...' She grumbles to herself, making her way to the trees. Her safe home was abruptly taken from her when some inconsiderate human had removed her from her mother and sisters. They lived quite happily among the trees of Ilex Forest. From there she was held captive with other stray Pokemon until she was picked up by Andrew. Now she longs for that safety net she once knew. The strings of her mother's web long gone, but always on her mind. Every now and then she will spray silk to get that feeling back, nevermind whoever's near to suffer the stickiness. 'What an eventful morning... And it only just started! But at least I've already got an appealing playdate waiting for me...' The Spinarak scratches among the trees' branches at the feeling of some tugging on her silk nearby. Seems the Sentret had unknowingly stumbled into her abode. More fun for her though, as she scurries down the trunk and into the Squirtles' path. 'Oh! Another casualty!' she exclaims, spinning on the spot in her excitement. To prevent anyone from fleeing from this most fortunate scenario, Spinarak covers both, the Sentret, and Squirtle in an explosive string shot!
Andrew's head lifts with a groan. Just what he needs... Another Pokemon joining in the fun... | Squirtle: Somewhat Healthy | Spinarak: Somewhat Healthy

The young Sentret tilted its head and pointed towards Squirtle curiously. Was she just oblivious or purposefully trying to ignore the small meerkat, who waited for a second before scooping up some snow in its paws and tossing it at its newfound friend. “Do you have snowballs in your ears?” Sentret asked with a teasing tone. “Or are you just being rude? I asked if you wanted to play, but you’re going on about that strange human!” Sentret laughed teasingly and gestured towards Andrew. When Andrew dove after Sentret, it jumped up into the air, landed on Andrew’s back, skittered all the way down back onto the ground, and dove off through the bushes. “A hah!” Sentret sighed a deep breath of relief, managing to make a quick escape through the trees for the time being. There’s no way they would think to look for it in there. With so many trees surrounding Route 29, where would the two even begin? Sentret peered through two thick bushes of sharp, pointy vines, and aligned its shot with another snowball carefully. Sentret just needed to strike that little blue turtle while the striking was good. “You won’t be prepared for me this time, little one!” It laughed, taking aim with the snowball firmly in its grasp. What it didn’t expect to find were obstacles placed along the way! What in the world?! Ugh, yuck! Why?! Sentret managed to stumble into a thick string of sticky web, which wrapped around its furry feet and thick, bushy tail. This was most unbecoming! Most unbecoming of the worst way! Sentret spun around with wide eyes that darted every which way accusingly until they landed firmly on a small, green bug. Oh, of course! Bugs, bugs, bugs! Why did it have to be bugs?! “Look at what you’ve done, will you?!” It snapped, gesturing wildly to the mess stuck in its fur. “Now it’s going to take weeks for me to clean it all out of my fur. Thank you very much.” Sentret wiped its sharp claws through the air, nicking Giftklo along her side. Some small notes: Be careful not to control the mod encounters or NPCs. You can react on what they've already done, that's fine. I didn't see where Sentret 'ran up a tree' from the previous mod, which is why I mentioned this. ^^
Also, be careful not to control whether a move hits or not by stating if the Sentret is captured in the webbing or not. Best practice is to say they 'attempted' or 'might accidentally get caught if'. Sentret is a mod encounter, so mods should be rping what Sentret does that hasn't been stated. Mods also should roll rng and determine what moves land, etc. <3 This case, String Shot is a 95% accuracy so there's a chance to fail, which mods must roll for and determine when modding. 1-2·1-2·1-16·1-16·1-100
