Name: Haruna (春奈) Higasa (日傘), a feminine name meaning "spring flower" and "parasol"
Alias: Haru (晴), a gender-neutral name meaning "sunny and clear"
Age: 17 y/o
Gender: Nonbinary
Trainer Type: Detective Wannabe
Hometown: Castelia, Unova
Naoto Shirogane from Persona 4.
Appearance: Haruna Higasa is a polite and proper person who dresses like a boy in order to hide her identity. She has a limestone skin tone with a cool undertone. She stands at 5'6" and has a low normal weight for her height. Her muscles are soft and undefined. Her cup size is B, but she wears a chest binder when disguised as a boy to keep her sex hidden. Her body has an inverted triangle shape, making her shoulders slightly wider than her hips. In order to make herself look even more masculine, she often adds small shoulder pads to her male-frame jackets. She files her nails to keep them clean and smooth. Her ears are pierced, but she's refraining from wearing any piercings while acting under a male identity. She's usually clean with smooth, clear skin free of acne and becomes irritable when dirty or having body odor. Although she's dressed as a boy, she still cares about her appearance.
Haruna has naturally upturned gray eyes and black hair, but she's dyed her hair dark blue since leaving Unova. She's also cut it short to make herself look more boyish, so the longest parts of her hair only reach the top of her neck, and the longest of her bangs can barely reach the corner of her jaw.
She does not wear makeup while disguised as a boy, and she has a heart-shaped face. Her lips are thin with a thicker bottom lip. She wears chapstick to keep them from chapping but is careful to not use anything colored.
Her teeth are clean, straight, and white. She has scar tissue inside her cheeks from wearing braces in the past.
Although she used to wear contacts, she's switched to wearing sky blue glasses with oval lenses.
Haruna further hides her appearance by wearing hats and tends to wear clothes that cover almost all of her skin to hide any feminine features.
She tends to have good posture and manners at all times due to her training back home. It could be said that she doesn't know how to relax.
Personality: Haruna admires detectives of the past, both real and fictional, and she aspires to become one in the future. As such, she tries hard to remain calm and collected whenever possible. She enjoys acting and dressing up but accepts that she must restrain herself given recent events. Although she's trying to be masculine and enjoys masculine activities, she also likes really cute and feminine things as well, even though she isn't good at expressing herself. She's quite serious and a hard worker with a relatively strict daily schedule. She has a sense of righteousness but isn't certain about the best way to do the right things. She can be a bit naive.
That said, she's still a child and can be quite impulsive at times, such as when she ran away from home to a foreign region, chopped off all her hair, dyed her hair blue, and other events.
She tends to come off as rather cold and distant but secretly wants to become more affectionate. She's just awkward when it comes to doing so and doesn't know how to interact with others outside of work or having specific objectives. She struggles when it comes to taking things easy or just having fun as if working is her whole reason for being. She's uncomfortable being with others to merely "hang out" and struggles to make friends due to her serious nature.
Since she's had such a sheltered and strict upbringing, she's not used to making her own choices and can struggle when asked to choose something out of personal preference rather than logic.
She often feels rather lonely and solemn. She keeps looking back at her past decisions and wonders whether she made the right choices.
History: Haruna grew up in Unova. She was born to a pair of strict parents and a loving older brother. Her father worked as an owner-operator driver, and her mother was a chief financial officer serving at Archen Industries, a sports drink company. Although they didn't earn as much money when her brother was younger, they earned enough to afford sending their children to private school by the time she turned ten. Her brother was already in high school at this time, but they transferred him to a private school as well.
Celebrating their wealth, Haruna's parents hired someone to look into their historic ancestry. That person traced her father's line back to ancient Johto royalty. After this, her parents became stricter than ever and insisted on having their children study the ancient Johtonian language, history, manners, and so on. They also had to practice some instruments traditional to Johto, practice tea ceremony, and other miscellaneous impractical things. Unfortunately, Haruna never meshed with these things well. Her elder brother straight-up refused them.
Even when she was younger, Haruna's schedule was quite strict. She practiced piano and had private tutoring. She even participated in some recitals and competitions when she was younger, but she never won anything. Her parents made her stop playing the piano and focus on other instruments when they found out about their supposed heritage. She was always on a sports team (soccer was her preference) and had clubs, tutoring, and special lessons to get to. They molded her into what they thought a proper hime should be.
Regardless of her grade, she was studious and did well in school.
During her limited free time, she focused on getting good quality sleep and reading mystery novels. She also enjoyed cooking healthy meals and eventually argued enough with her parents to be allowed to cook at home. Initially, her parents insisted such a task was for "menial laborers" and "servants." She, as someone descended from royalty, they claimed, should not do such a task beneath her. Fortunately, her brother helped convince them.
Haruna's parents eventually bought a nice house on the outskirts of Castelia, Unova. They weren't interested in raising pokemon and didn't own any of their own. Haruna could only interact with wild pokemon and pokemon belonging to other people or the school, making her feel even more lonely and isolated.
While in college, her brother had a psychotic episode and was diagnosed with schizophrenia, bringing his studies to a halt. He developed anxiety and difficulty with focusing and memory severe enough to dramatically impair his coursework. As a result, he moved back in with Haruna and their parents to recover. With his emotional support and guidance, Haruna earned enough credits in high school to graduate early with a record of A's and B's.
One night soon after graduating, she packed a suitcase of clothing, necessities, and all the money she'd saved up over the years before high-tailing it to Johto. She wanted freedom, and she wanted the right to choose her own career and have an adventure. Furthermore, she wanted to learn more about this country of origin in person rather than through the perspectives of others. Everything her parents made her study was based on historical Johto rather than modern-day Johto, which she considered to be an imbalance in information.
She cut off her long, straight hair and dyed it blue. She also stopped using contacts for her myopia and switched to wearing a pair of glasses. Along with her ensemble, she bought some masculine sets of clothing and hats to disguise herself.
The truth is, given infidelity from their ancestors that was left out of historical records, Haruna and her father aren't actually descended from royalty.
Goals:
- To collect a small elite team of pokemon to help her in her future as a detective.
- To collect all eight gym badges of the region to enhance her resume for college and the workforce.
- To avoid being found by her parents before she's ready.
Other Info:
- She wants a maximum of six pokemon in order to be able to give them the care they need, and she wants to avoid any big-eaters since she has a limited budget. She doesn't feel like handing her pokemon over to someone else to care for is appropriate for her partners. She only plans to resort to using them when she is saving a pokemon for trade or breeding.
- Haruna has pollen allergies, making it difficult for her to be around certain grass-type pokemon.
- When Haruna was five years old, she nearly drowned in a pond, causing her to be afraid of submerging herself in water. To this day, she doesn't know how to swim. She's anxious near large bodies of water and worries that she won't be able to take proper care of aquatic pokemon.
- Haruna has mild myopia from spending too much time indoors while growing up.
- She's never dated and always assumed her parents would pick a suitor for her.
