The battle was so close... Haru gritted his teeth. Should he waste another potion or take a gamble? Even if his squirtle fainted, couldn't he just recall his pokemon and run away?
It wasn't like it was some kind of game-ending event.
"This is... my win!" called out Dupin before attacking the spinda with one more water gun.
Well, apparently, he'd decided everything for Haru on his own.
Haru sighed, pulling his scarf tighter around his neck. He casually pulled out Dupin's pokeball. If the last attack landed properly, then he'd recall Dupin and get on out of here. Since the kid napping in the snow was fine, there was no point in hanging around any longer. Dupin uses water gun!

This was a very strange trainer and the kid now had a great story to tell his friends and shake their heads over, adults were so strange sometimes, it was like they lost all logic thinking when they grew up, forgetting all the important stuff to focus on silly things like work and cleaning. A few adults didn't, and they were all great important trainers, so the kid had actually thought Haruna to be one of them at first, but they seemed to have turned the world upside down as well which made everything so darn complicated. The kid and his friends had promised each other a long time ago that they weren't going to be like that. Spinda was breathing hard, but it was stubborn. It forced its feet into motion and rammed Dupin once more, sending him down for the count. It looked like the battle was over, but then Dupin showed what made the bond between trainer and pokemon important, or rather if one of them believed in it, and in not being alone and having someone having your back, having a partner whom you battled with. Spinda smirked but was too tired to rub it in, it turned its back on Dupin and missed how he pushed himself up on his arms by pure determination. A blast of water slammed into the back of the normal type who was thrown to the ground and lay still. The kid felt sorry for the squirtle and what was in store for it after having fought so hard for his trainer. "You're great Dupin! Don't forget it!" He shouted encouragingly, and then gave an awkward mumbling goodbuy to Haruna before he ran back to town. Spinda was down and not a threat anymore, no reason to hang around. Dupin pulled through and grows +3 levels to [Lv 10]! He can learn Rapid Spin if he forgets another move! Haruna gazed at her squirtle in a daze as the boy left her. All of her worries had been for not. As for Dupin...
...Well, he really was a good pokemon. For someone. Just... not for her.
She balled her hands into fists, feeling her fingers dig into the leather of her gloves. Her pulse throbbed. She slowly looked downward as the breeze ruffled her bangs and scarf. Her cap hid her eyes from the light while she thought.
"Good job, Dupin," she said, smiling as the battle-fatigued Dupin approached her. "Take a rest now."
She recalled the squirtle to his ball. She slowly placed the ball on her belt for what might be the last time.
Haruna took one step, then another. Faster and faster.
She went past the spinda and walked quickly, hoping to reach the next city soon. She bit her lip. She felt like she had to, as quickly as she could, trade or sell her squirtle before she grew too attached.
The afternoon gradually faded into dusk.
Haruna accidentally stepped on a sprout in her haste, but it popped back up to grow anew. After a good rain, no one would even know it had been dirtied.
Dupin forgets tail whip and learns rapid spin! Put this thread on HOLD for now, please!
