The curtains slowly unfurled, pulling out more of Crow’s true self for Falkner to see. A young and hotheaded individual whose thirst for ‘greatness’ or ‘power’ would slowly corrupt their soul until they were so lost to their own folly, they had nothing left before them. He sighed, shaking his shaggy blue hair and turned his attention to his avian friend instead. “How are you holding up, Pidgeotto? Do you need a rest?” A quiet understanding broke out between their gaze as trainer and Pokemon stared at each other for a momentary second.

Pidgeotto remained steadfast, tilting its head back with a mighty screech. It wasn’t so exhausted like it’s avian counterpart, who immediately rushed to heal herself in the midst of their fray by tending to the worst of her wounds. He could withstand some more heavy blows as far as he could tell, though calculations of Dart’s added statuses seemed lost to the large osprey in the moment. “Very well, old friend. If you insist, use Gust.” The command was simple and swift, causing brown feathered bird with its bright head crest of reds and yellow to immediately whip more winds that tore at Dart relentlessly.

The Bombirdier immediately slung two powerful boulders into Pidgeotto, knocking the other bird to the ground and instantly burying it. “You did good my friend.” Falkner commented quietly, recalling him. He would then remove himself from his side of the field and walk the full stretch over to Crow, badge and a few key items in hand. “Though Pidgeotto chose not to show you Roost, here in the Technical Machine for it. Seems you know it well enough I shouldn’t need to explain. Also, this is my Gym’s Badge. Proof of my defeat today, and your winnings for beating me in battle.”

Falkner placed a single hand on Crow’s shoulder before letting the young man go, though. “Be careful about your inner rage. We all have our demons to face. If you let them consume you instead, they will only seek to destroy you.” Then he would just…poof. Walk away and let one of his assistance show Crow out the door.

    The ground shook as Pidgeotto slammed into the earth, followed by another boulder striking it right after, kicking up a cloud of dust that obscured the aftermath. Falkner's Pokémon had been shot right out of the sky. Dart landed triumphantly next to her trainer, joyously hopping from one leg to the other in her victory dance.
- Hah! Told ya to surrender. - Crow declared, pride evident in his voice as he summarized the outcome. He raised his fist towards Dart, and the Bombirdier responded eagerly, extending her talon to execute a fist bump with a joyous clatter.

    To the victor went the spoils: Crow snatched his prizes right from Falkner's hands, disregarding most of what he said. His words felt largely unnecessary - he had gotten what he needed. The badge - a cheaply made tat shaped like wings. Supposedly, this was meant to signal to Team Rocket that he was a big deal... What an absolute joke. Hoenn badges, at least, felt much more substantial than this. Yet, currently, Crow had very little faith that Team Rocket grunts would recognize any badges other than those from Johto.

    Suddenly, Falkner placed his hand on Crow's arm. Almost instantly, Crow's palm sprung to slap his hand away, but he managed to stop himself mid-gesture. It was instinctual; he tensed up, hating the sensation of someone touching him without his clear approval. For this one moment, he paid attention to what the Gym Leader had to say, staring impatiently.
- Keep your lessons for kids. - Crow hissed through his teeth, pushing Falkner's arm away. - You're embarrassing as a bird keeper! - he added, as Falkner walked away.

    As he was escorted out of the arena, Crow recalled Bombirdier back to her pokeball. Typhoon puffed up his feathers, sitting on Crow's other arm and looking like a fluffy ball of anger. He was upset that Dart stole all of his glory - he believed he could have finished the battle much faster and better if only he had been given the chance.

Crow has done his part and hopefully, Essence won't keep him waiting.
