Skye was far from the familiar surroundings of Saffron City, only to arrive in the quaint little New Bark Town to visit his Aunt and Uncle for a few days before he hits the road. The couple had been kind enough to give him a place to stay while he worked up the nerve to begin his Journey. This is what he wanted, but there was uncertainties were still plaguing his mind. While he recognized that he could prolong his stay for as long as he wanted, he felt there was urgency that his journey start sooner rather than later, least he succumb to his second thoughts.
After a few minutes of procrastinating around the house and standing in front of the door, the boy finally musters some resolve and reaches for the knob. Taking those first few steps outside was the hardest for him. The sunlight began to cascaded upon him as he took in a deep breath. The fresh air of new beginnings filling his lungs. A surge of freedom and happiness washes over him, fueling him with newfound determination. Those first few steps would be the hardest for him, but he did start moving and shuffling towards the Pokémon Lab. It took only a few minutes to reach it, and politely knock on the door before entering.
Inhale...
As the Rookie Trainer approaches he puts on a more confident persona, grinning widely as he waves at whatever staff helps him, be it Elm or someone else, he was ready.
"Excuse me...?"
"I'm ... here ... For a Pokémon! Please!"
Much energy was put into this greeting, and he clasps his hands together in a friendly, but pleading manner. Much to his surprise he he never thought that the chance to receive a Starter from his own region would be an option. Truthfully, he would've been happy with any partner granted to him, but now he was especially excited! The classic trio is introduced to him all at once, each being let out of their containment.
As the Pokémon are presented, he began to tense up visibly, gulping as he knows he will the process of finding out who easiest to deal with will be an ordeal because he had step out of his comfort zone. If he couldn't choose based on a favorite, he'll have to decide based on their personalities. His eyes scan each of the creatures carefully.
The fiery lizard settled her upon the potential trainer, looking rather aloof and disinterested from the very start. From just a glance they already get the sense that this was a Trainer they could not respect. The Charmander turned away and began to scan the surroundings before walking away. "Oh..." Skye murmured, while bringing a hand to his mouth in surprise. Curiosity is piqued as he thought this species was suppose to be more lively, but this was reminded that Pokémon can have unique personalities. His mind is flooded with the dangers of fire, reminding him of his terrible injuries that he suffered in the past, so perhaps not having a Charmander might be for the best.
Squirtle seemed to bounce with excitement at the potential new trainer. Unlike the fiery one, it was seemingly hyperactive at first glance. It rushes over to Skye, an action that makes the Trainer squeak and instinctively leap backwards. While he knew some facts about this Pokémon, he didn't exactly know the intentions or every single detail about them. Sadness becomes visible on the turtles face, feeling rejected by Skye's actions. "A-Ah, no it's not your fault, little one. Please don't be sad..." he murmurs with remorse. His damn psyche was acting up despite his best efforts to try and temper it. Consideration is made for Squirtle, it could be a great and lively partner. A deep breath is made as he kneels to hold out his hand to console the sad creature. "There, There..." he murmurs. A few pats are offered to the Turtle in attempt to cheer them up. But it would not be long before he stands up and takes a few steps back.
Bulbasaur was patient and attentive whilst it moved to step into the nearest sunlight. While it was calm, it didn't seem utterly dismissive of the Trainer. As the Squritle began to cry, vines sprout from his side, and it starts to show off the nurturing demeanor the species was known for. The vines wriggle playfully to distract Squirtle from it's sadness, until happiness and excitement return. Seeing the patience makes him curious enough to get closer, a securitizing gaze is made. As time went on it was harder to suppress his fears. From the previous interaction, Bulbasaur knew not to make sudden moves. Slow movements of a single vine is made to make an offer of a handshake towards Skye. It takes a bit of contemplation before it's accepted. After a moment the vine wraps around his hand and squeezes in an attempt to be comforting.
Skye stares into the crimson eyes of the plant creature, feeling captivated by the determined yet relaxed gaze. For a moment all thoughts leave his mind. For just one moment he didn't feel fear at all being near a Pokémon, not even the slightest discomfort. Something about this creature made something click. Slowly he stands up, making his offer.
"... Would... You like to come with me?"
Bulbasaur finds this offer curious, seeing the weakness within Skye has triggered a nurturing instinct. Whilst they might know enough about them to respect them just yet, pity and curiosity would be the driving factor. Enough that they believe they are the best choice to protect them. Not to mention all the affection and praise they might receive for doing such a good job. A mutual agreement is made, and his first Pokémon is obtained!
Skye stands up straight, and flashes a wide grin at the Laboratory Staff.
"Well... Is there anything I can do to repay this gift? Anything I can do to help the Lab, perhaps?"
