Name: Khalani Akamai
Age: 17
Gender: Guy
Trainer Type: Beginning Trainer, developing strategist.
Hometown: Mele Mele island
Appearance:
Khalani is about 5 foot 9 inches tall, and is of an athletic build. His dark brown hair is messy, covering most of his forehead. His skin is on the darker side, as are his brown eyes. He is usually seen wearing tan shorts that are knee length, and an ocean blue t-shirt. Though, they do little to cover his musculature. He carries a worn leather backpack around everywhere he goes (it was a gift from his late grandmother). He is very confident, both about his appearance and his abilities. He holds his head high everywhere he goes, knowing that his family is proud of him. As he is a very friendly person, he usually wears an inviting, happy expression. If not to make new friends, then to comfort his Pokemon. Likewise, his head is always on a swivel. Not to avoid danger, but to find new friends! Both human and pokemon!
Personality:
Khalani is respectful and kind to everyone, as his parents taught him. He has a good sense of humor that he is not afraid to use in desperate times. Because of this, he makes friends easily.
But don't mistake this kindness as weakness. Khalani can and will defend himself, as well as his friends and family if they are in danger. He is fierce in combat if he is fighting for someone or something he loves.
Khalani is also very smart. Not just in things like science or history. He enjoys Pokemon battling because he gets to test his strategic muscle.
Unfortunately, this strategic muscle results in some...overconfidence on Khalani's part. He rarely backs away from a battle, even if his opponent is too powerful for him to defeat.
History:
Khalani was born on Melemele island. His father was a fisherman, and his mother was a teacher. Life was great growing up. Khalani went to school, made friends, and always came home to the peaceful sound of water washing up on the shore that was just a hundred paces away. He lived in a humble abode with his parents and his grandmother. Khalani was the only child.
When his grandmother passed away, her debts (although minimal) were passed down to Khalani's mother. The family didn't have a lot of money, and could barely pay off the debt. The house, being in a nice spot next to the ocean, was expensive to maintain, and had to be sold. Khalani still remembers how downtrodden his father was that day. That house had been passed down through many generations, only for him to have to give it away. Khalani tried to take his father's mind off of such things by spending more time with him. When Khalani was nine, the two began to go out on fishing expeditions, even competing to see who could get the most fish. Or the biggest fish. A few years after learning the skill, Khalani started beating his father constantly, enough that he had to let the older man win several times a month to make sure they kept going on these trips. Heck, if Khalani didn't set out on a Pokemon adventure, he'd probably win a fishing championship!
Normally, Khalani would have started his Pokemon journey at the age of ten. However, he had to stay home to help his parents get whatever money they could scrounge up. Seven years later, at 17 years old, his family was in a better place, renting an apartment in the more urban area of the island. So, Khalani left on his journey, vowing to come back home with money to buy back their old plot of land. Forever.
Goals: To obtain money for his parents so they can buy back all of their old land. And maybe have some fun on the way too!
Other Info: Khalani really wants to catch an Oricorio (Pa'u style). It reminds him of home.
