It all started with a simple curiosity during his journey through Route 30. In his mind, he wanted to get to Violet City as fast as possible. On the other hand, he wondered if his Pokemon would be ready for the Gym Battle there. Except for his Sprigatito, most of them would handle against Flying-types without any Electric or Rock-types with him. But he had a feeling he might underestimate the Gym Leader with that knowledge alone. He needed more time if he wanted to train his Pokemon to their very best.
However, his brainstorming/traveling multitasking was interrupted when he saw a house in the middle of the route. Any rash trainer would have ignored it, but he wasn't that type. Rather, he went inside and found himself meeting a gentleman with a proposition for him.
"So you're saying you can't identify what kind of Pokemon it would hatch from that egg and you need someone from New Bark Town to analyze it, correct?" Cole guessed after hearing the gentleman named Mr. Pokemon's dilemma.
"That's right. Professor Elm is that very associate and he's more knowledgeable with Pokemon more than I am," Mr. Pokemon explained further. "If you can deliver this egg to him, then he might able to figure out the mysteries that might eluded me for a while. If you're in the rush, I won't force you to go..."
Cole shook his head and smiled. "I won't mind the round trip." He gently accepted the egg from Mr. Pokemon. "I'll bring it to the Professor safe and sound. You can count on me and my partners to accomplish this task."
The old gentleman nodded his head with satisfaction. "What a diligent boy you are. A word of caution: There have been some strange fellows after trainers with some eggs lately. Please be careful and keep the egg off from the wrong hands."
"I understand. Thank you for the warning." Cole stood up and headed off to the door with the egg in his arms. "Well then, I'm off."
"Safe travels, young friend!"
With that, Cole departed Mr. Pokemon's house and went the other way to his new destination: New Bark Town.

Cole was enjoying a rather beautiful summer day. With the egg secure in his arms and the sun shining down, surely any reports of shadow figures were overstated. The path was quiet with only the rustle of trees and the whisper of leaves as an occasional breeze cut through the damp heat. A little sweat on the brow and collar was hardly a deterrent to your average trainer, and all it meant was that one should journey in the shade rather than out where it was brightest. Flowers bloomed and offered a rainbow of hues to gaze upon, intermixed with the joyful greens of spidery grasses that yet to yellow or dry out. On occasion, the quiet was disturbed by the buzz of insect wings or the shuffle of small pokemon darting through the underbrush. However, as he approached Cherrygrove, things took a sinister turn. The little town was cheery and quaint and personable. But it wasn't heavily populated. That meant that the streets were often sparsely occupied by people who could put wary eyes on the scene. So as he placed his feet upon cobbled pavement, a figure in black slunk from the shadows with a nasty sneer. Opposite of him on Cole's other side, acting as the distraction, was a rattata. He signaled to the rat and he leapt from his hiding spot to bite at Cole's ankles, chittering away. And that was when the Grunt lunged forward to try to grab the egg. A good ol' fashioned mugging. Not that he was exactly good at it. "Hand it over, brat!" he growled.
Oh no! You have been confronted by a Team Rocket Grunt! He sends out a [LV 6] Rattata to battle you!

Cole was smiling as he walked down towards Cherrygrove City once more. The last time he enjoyed this peaceful summer day was with his family after arriving back from his exchange program in Paldea. He wasn't alone this time as he had an egg sitting in his arms and his Pokemon sitting in his Poke Balls. He thought he could enjoy this respite for a little longer. Alas, fate has other things in store for him. Or rather, a suspicious man in a black uniform has plans for the egg he was carrying. Because the moment he looked down, he gasped to see a Rattata attempted to gnaw his ankles. "H-Hey! Knock it off! You're gonna make me drop the egg!" But then, the same man suddenly appeared to tackle him. But he quickly side-stepped and raised the egg away from the man before backing away. "What the heck is wrong with you?!"When he finally took a closer look at his would-be attacker, he raised his eyebrow to see his black uniform with a red R logo on his shirt. The moment he demanded him for the egg, he knew what his motives were as slowly backed away and glared at him. "Yeah... I don't think so. This egg belongs to its recipient and I doubt a sketchy man like you can be considered as a responsible egg sitter." He quickly took out a Poke Ball and threw it towards the man's direction. "Ruri, you're up!" The ball popped open, revealing his green Grass Cat Pokemon as she hissed at her new opponent. "Stop his Rattata's advances with Leafage!"Ruri meowed before she pelted her opponent with leaves from the fur on her neck. Ruri the Sprigatito uses Leafage on Rattata! |

"Hand it over," the man in black repeated in a dark voice full of venom and threat. He lunged for the again again, though Cole kept it out of reach with his quick actions and forcing distance between them by sending out the sprigattito. The man leapt back and he'd be able to see the 'R' emblazoned on the man's chest, a signal to all who saw it that this thief was a member of the infamous Team Rocket! "I am not afraid to mess up a kid, so fork it over brat, or I'll make ya regret tellin' me no." He cracked his knuckles. "Betcha still got baby teeth I can knock outta your skull." Ratty chittered at the feline, fur standing on end. Ew. A CAT. <You stay out of this!> Ratty snapped, lurching forward in a streak of purple and slamming into Ruri's side. The grass-cat wasn't staggered for long and countered with that flurry of leaves that bombarded the rat from above. Trainer Battle

Cole narrowed his eyes while staring at the strange man. Now that he took a closer look at him, he realized that man might be a part of that terrorist group that plagued Kanto and Johto from the news. By the looks of his eyes and his aim at the egg, he knew it wouldn't be easy to shake him off without a battle. He seriously didn't want to waste his time on this criminal. But he knew he couldn't escape that easily with the Ratatta already striking back on his Sprigatito. "Sorry. I already got all my baby teeth out," Cole smirked. "Though I wouldn't say the same to you when Ruri might attack your face by accident." He dropped his backpack while keeping a gentle grip on the egg. "Just so you know this is your fault for this imbalance battle. Ruri, Tail Whip!"Whether he was facing a normal trainer or a thug, Cole knew the first rule of a Pokemon battle: Weaken its defense before going straight to their type advantage. Since he couldn't do the latter, he might as well take advantage of the cat-and-mouse situation he placed against the grunt. As for his Sprigatito, she didn't hesitate to charge at the irritated rat. <Says a rat who does all of that jerk's dirty work!> That was all Ruri meowed before slapping the Ratatta with her bushy tail. Ruri the Sprigatito uses Tail Whip on Rattata! |

"Oh-ho. Threatenin' the adults in the situation, I see," the rocket sneered. "I might be able to find some of those baby teeth ya said you don't got. Here...lemme give it a whirl." He took a menacing step forward, flexing his gloved hand, popping his knuckles with meaning. His teeth were bared—a crooked, gleaming sneer that revealed his delight in the thought of causing harm. "I bet a knuckle sandwich straight to the gob would sort this whole situation right up." <Yeah! A knuckle sandwich right to the FACE!> Ratty taunted, though she didn't have fists. She did however have a really speedy run and a willingness to throw herself repeatedly at the feline. <Now go away you dirty, stinking cat!> In a blur of movement, Ratty slammed into Ruri's side and knocked the feline down again, and she responded by meekly wagging her tail. Ratty narrowed her eyes, whiskers twitching. <Wow you're pathetic...> Trainer Battle

Pathetic?! Well, she was forced to take a few hits to use her Tail Whip as per her trainer's orders. But while she barely knew Cole after being adopted, she trusted his judgment after witnessing his selflessness and courage against their adversaries. She barely stood up as she endured the pain from taking the Rattata's Quick Attack. Yet she retained her grin as she glared at her opponent, knowing she was nothing more than a rat who acted like a crook's accomplice. On the other hand, Cole frowned after hearing the grunt's insults at him. If this wasn't a Pokemon battle, he would have smacked that guy's jaw just to shut him up. However, he has other issues to deal with. Taking out his Potion, he ran to Ruri's side and sprayed its contents to her wounds. "Are you okay, Ruri? Can you still fight?" His Grass Cat Pokemon silently nodded with a stern look aiming at their opponents. "Good. I got an idea. Use Leafage!"His Pokemon jumped out of his arms once he administered all of the Potion and summoned several leaves to throw at the Rattata with a hiss. If his Sprigatito could survive a few more hits, then there was a chance they might end it with their next move. Cole used a Potion on Ruri the Sprigatito, who then uses Leafage on Rattata! ( OOC: Deduct 1 Potion, please.)

"Lookit, healin' up. Ha. Tha' won't matter soon. No amount of potions will save ya from our sheer dominance in this fight!" The grunt laughed. Ratty laughed too...well, growled. A mocking, taunting noise that would catch Ruri a little off-guard. This whole fight wasn't exactly going to plan, was it? Well, there was still a chance! Surely one more leafage would... BAM! Ratty slammed into Ruri as soon as the sprigattito was back on her paws and healed. This rat wasn't slowing down for anyone. Her attacks were swift and strong. <Just give up already.> Well, Ruri had a second wind with that potion, so she smacked the rat with a strong leafage that knocked her foe down a few more HP points. Ha. See. They weren't done yet! The rocket sneered, still cracking his knuckles like he was ready to throw a punch once he got close enough. Trainer Battle

That took care of his Sprigatito's health right before the grunt's Rattata's barrage of attacks at her. However, Cole wasn't amused by the grunt's taunting, nor did Ruri with his Rattata. All they were doing was being too confident in beating up a young kid like him. Then again, in their eyes, using a Potion sounded like a desperate move, which they weren't wrong about. Plus with the Rattata's Growl, there was a chance her physical moves might be weakened. So he was in a pickle... However, he knew he shouldn't freak out so soon. it was only a mid-way point of the battle. That grunt obviously trying to throw him off his game. He confronted those kinds of trainers before and there was no way a criminal like him would let him harass him with the egg in tow! "Keep your insults to yourself! Ruri, use Tail Whip first and follow it up with another Leafage!"<<You're going down, Mr. Rat!>>The Grass Cat Pokemon rushed to the Rattata and started slapping it with her tail. When it was done, she jumped away and fired several more leaves at her opponent. This was very reckless, but Cole needed to take a risk to finally get an advantage on these two jerks. If not, he has a lot of apologizing to do... Ruri the Sprigatito uses Tail Whip and then, Leafage on Rattata! ( OOC: I'm using the Running Shoes ) |

"Why would I? If ya can't 'andle it kid, go home, leave battling to us who knows how it's done!" The rocket guffawed, "Heal all ya want kid, no match for Ratty," he paused and then smirked as he began to walk forward towards Cole again. "Ya know, let's end this even quicker, shall we?"The grunt walked calmly towards the younger trainer as there was little the child could do against him, to the Rocket it just meant no consequences to his actions. Best case of course was that he could scare the kid to hand over the egg, perhaps he needed to roughen him up a bit to put Cole in his place but that wouldn't be the first time he did that to someone smaller than him. Worst case would really just be Cole running and then forcing the grunt on some annoying chase, he couldn't imagine that there were anything the thirteen-year-old could do to protect himself, not even with his pokemon. Ratty laughed her grinding laughter, "and what makes you think so?" The rat shot a glance towards her moving trainer and a malicious smile, "if you want to win you better keep up, and you have been terribly at that!" She mocked, "I doubt you'll be here to see what happens to your trainer!" With that the rat raced forward in a blur and sent Ruri sprawling in the grass in a blink of an eye. She seemed to ignore the sprigatito's waving tail as she came around and crashed into her from another side and sent her down to count. It darkened for Ruri's eyes and her whole body screamed for her to give in and enter the blissful peace which came with it. Only she knew what made her fight it, if it was determination to beat that stupid rat, or loyalty for her new trainer, or simply pride and refusing to lose, but whatever it was it got her back up on her feet. Unsteady and swaying, which made the rat laugh at her again. She sent her leaves flying and would see her opponent go down too. She too got back up with a lot of struggle, and the look she sent her trainer made it clear that the rat's determination all came from fear. Trainer Battle
