The trip from Violet City to the location of the famous Bug Catching Contest was a lengthy one, but Essence managed to make it on the scene just in time to register for it. Truthfully, she never viewed bug-type Pokémon to be extremely powerful, but they are not completely worthless either. One good thing about the majority of Bug-types is that they tend to evolve quite fast. Unless it is a Skorupi, then those take almost forever to evolve. Essence is at least hopeful that she will be able to catch a rare or interesting Bug-type Pokemon to add to her growing collection of Pokémon. She was asked to deposit all of her party Pokemon except for one. She was a little skeptical about it at first, but later decided not to make a whole fuss over it since it is one of the official rules. She decided to go with one of her newer Pokémon, Poliwag. Bug-types aren't super effective against him, and he could potentially put them to sleep make it easier for his trainer to catch them.
"Alright, Naveen. Our job should be pretty simple. We need to find the rarest or strongest Bug Pokémon in the area and catch it. We can't knock them out, if we want to win this competition." She explained to the tadpole Pokémon. The Poliwag "nodded" his head as he bounced alongside his trainer, cutting through the blades of tall grass in search of bugs.

In the far distance, bright sunlight beamed down against something hiding underneath the tall blades of glass and causing it to shimmer beautifully each time it kissed it. At first glance, Essence assumed that it must have been an aluminum soda can or something along those lines that had been left in the park. However, once she lowered her sunglasses from her face and narrowed her dark chocolate brown eyes, she noticed that it was a wild Pokémon—a Shelmet, to be more exact. The Shelmet let out a loud cry as he bounced up and down, attempting to get the trainer's attention. For a second or two, Essence debated attempting to capture the Pokémon. It could score her some major points, but it could also be a major risk. A risk that may be worth taking...
Naveen glanced up at his trainer, waiting for her approval to attack their opponent. "This is going to be tricky and we're going to have to be extremely careful... Hypnosis!" She commanded the Poliwag. The water-type Pokémon jumped into action as the swirls on his belly begun to glow with a faint blue hue as it started to spin around releasing waves of psychic energy from its body at the opponent to lure it to sleep.
Naveen used Hynosis!

A proud smirk spread across Poliwag's mouth, watching his hypnotic waves make contact with his opponent. Within a few seconds, the small knight in training found itself giving in and falling asleep. "Good, it you didn't miss." Essence smirked at her water-type. She then grabbed one of the specialized spheres from her bag and tossed it at the sleeping Pokémon.

The unique orb made contact with the snail-like creature, absorbing it inside of a crimson light before completely closing, then following down to the ground. Essence and her Poliwag watched intensively as the orb rocked back and forth a few times before coming a halt. A deep sigh of relief sounded from Essence's lips as she walked over to retrieve the Sports Ball, Naveen waddling right behind her. "This feels like a winner to me, but let's keep looking around to see what else we might be able to find around here," she added, watching the Sports Ball disappear from her hand and make its way inside of her P.C. Naveen nodded his head, following his trainer even further inside of the national park.
OOC: You updated the levels, but forgot to add Mud Shot to Poliwag's moveset. I self-updated to add the move Mud Shot to his moveset. <3

Naveen was the first to notice the dancing butterfly in the open azure sky. The tadpole Pokémon let out loud cry as he started to jump up and down, attempting to get his trainer's attention. "Naveen! Why are you making all of this noise? You're going to scare away the bugs," she hissed at the water-type. Her dark brown eyes then glanced up at the sky to take in the sight of the graceful Butterfree. "Hmph. I see, that is what the big fuss was about," she mumbled under her breath. She would not admit it out loud, but the sight was lovely and intriguing. "Let's keep looking around. No need to disrupt its dancing," she stated, walking off.

Up ahead, Essence and Naveen soon found themselves encountering a Paras. Out of all of the Bug-types that the duo could encounter, it just had to be a Grass/Bug-type Pokémon. "Remind me to never bring another water-type to a contest like this. Literally, almost every Pokémon we have encounter has been a bad match up for you Naveen," she pointed out. Naveen did not take too kindly to his trainer's words, even if there is some truth to them. Naveen frowned at the Paras, attempting to challenge him. "Don't even think about it. The battle will be over before it starts," Essence warned the young water-type. Still, Naveen decided to rush towards the Paras. Luckily, Essence was able to snatch him up before it made contact with it. "Oh, shut it!" She hissed at the Poliwag, grunting and squirming in her arms.

Essence could sense that her Poliwag is itching for a battle against another Pokémon. However, it would not stand a good chance alone against the majority of the bugs flying around or crawling around in the area. The two continue to watch before encountering their next Pokémon. A Silcoon, huh? It should be easy enough for Naveen to take down, right? The Poliwag glanced back at his trainer, waiting for her approval to attack the cocoon. "Sure, go ahead. Water Gun!" She ordered her water-type.
The Poliwag inhaled a decent amount of air around him before shooting forth a couple blasts of water in the direction of the Silcoon.

The Poliwag jumped up and down out of excitement, watching his Water Gun hit its mark without any issues. "That wasn't bad, Naveen, but don't get to carry away," Essence spoke out to her water-type. As she expected, the cocoon did not attack Naveen back, but boosted its own defense. Good thing Naveen mostly has special attacks. "Use Water Gun, again!" she ordered the Poliwag.
The Poliwag inhaled a decent amount of air around him before shooting forth another blast of rushing water in the cocoon's direction.
