Sara and Krobus entered the grass cautiously. They were late to the start of the event by a few minutes, and it seemed everyone had already vanished into the tall grass. Sounds of Pokemon battles filled the air. Krobus looked around slowly, its eyes seeming to take in the landscape. A stomach grumbled and Sara and Krobus both looked at each other, embarrassed but not sure if it was themself or the other. Sara had been running low on funds lately and had been doing her best as a responsible trainer to take care of her Pokemon, but 7 were a lot of mouths to feed. Krobus looked away as Sara and his eyes met briefly, not wanting to give away that it was definitely his stomach that was grumbling. Sara scratched the back of her head awkwardly. "I know you're hungry, so let's see if we can win this tournament and get some grub!" Sara said in an upbeat voice, trying to take the focus off away from the hunger pangs they were both feeling. Krobus grumbled at the obvious pun and started walking off into the tall grass. "Hey! Don't go without me! There are strong pokemon in this park!"

"Whoa!" Sara exclaimed as the bright red Sizzlipede leaped from the bushes. Krobus let out an excited croak as the bug presented itself. "Don't forget why we're here, Krobus! We don't want to eat the bugs, we want to catch them! We need that prize money!" Sara shouted. Krobus bounced from one foot to the other, its tongue flopping out of its mouth, and toxic saliva drooling from their mouth. "No Krobus!" Sara shouted, quickly reaching into the sack of Sport Balls she had been provided. Krobus was quick to hop up in the air, tongue swirling around to try to gain momentum to fire it quickly from their mouth. Just as Krobus went to try to shoot its tongue out to get a taste of the bug, Sara chucked a ball through the air hitting the Sizzlipede in the head! "Yes!" Sara called out, as Krobus's tongue slapped the air where the Sizzlipede was just a moment ago. Krobus grumbled and looked back at Sara wearily with a sigh. The ball hadn't even hit the ground yet though, and there was no telling if it was actually going to be strong enough to contain the fiery little bug!

As the pokeball burst open, releasing the Sizzlipede from the ball, it let out a loud hiss and started blowing smoke all over the place! Krobus let out a gentle croak, attempting to keep the Sizzlipede locked in their view, but the Sizzlipede quickly scuttled around, repositioning itself. "Krobus! Don't lose sight of the thing!" Sara called out. The bushes bristeled next to the pair, and Krobus quickly pushed the bushes to the side, revealing the sizzlipede. "Siiiiizizizizi!" It shouted, puffing a huge plume of smoke right into Krobus' face. Krobus quickly responded, shooting their tongue high into the air, then slamming it down in front of them in an attempt to attack the Sizzlipede. By the time the tongue hit the ground, the sizzlipede had scuttled between the frogs legs. Sara saw another opportunity to chuck a sport ball and did just that! "Stay in the ball! We need to win this prize!" Sara shouted. Krobus frustratedly kicked the bush which no longer held its prey inside as the sport ball softly rocked back and forth on the ground.

The ball shook once on the ground before bursting open. "Gah!" Sara shouted with exasperation. Krobus let out a low croak before turning towards Sara in frustration. He was hungry and Sara kept pulling the rug out from under him in all of his attempts to just get a bite to eat! The sizzlipede had a good idea of what it wanted a bite of however. Through the smokey air and crawling quickly through the undergrowth, the sizzlipede moved quickly towards Sara and Krobus. Krobus quickly inflated their cheeks and deflated them rapidly, releasing a loud series of cracking noises into the air. This wasn't a warning to the sizzlipede, more just the Croagunk trying to convince Sara to let them take a bite of this bug! "No! We have to capture it, Krobus!" Sara resisted. The Sizzlipede sunk its fangs into Krobus' rear, causing the frog pokemon to leap into the air. "Ah there you are!" Sara called out, quickly throwing another sport ball at the bug pokemon.

Krobus watched the ball, salivating as they watched it rock back and forth sporadically. Inside the sport ball was a delicious bug, and Krobus was hungry. The ball, unfortunately for Krobus, didn't pop open once more, however. As it settled down, Krobus frowned in frustration. "CROAK!" They croaked, angrily stomping their foot on the ground. Sara quickly grabbed the ball, and Krobus stared at her disapprovingly. "What?" Sara said, eyeing Krobus. Krobus said nothing before turning around and walking off into the tall brush leaving Sara standing there with a stupid look on her face. "This thing will definitely net us a prize!" Sara called out into the dark undergrowth. "Krobus?" She said nervously. The bushes around Sara seemed to be rustling with the sounds of bug pokemon, and Sara thought it would be better off to not be alone in the park. "Wait up for me!"

Croagunk licked its lips as it watched from a shrub. The venonat was aware that there was something else nearby as it shuffled back toward its nest to protect its eggs. Its antennae were flicking wildly back and forth, attempting to detect anything and anyone nearby. "Veno... VENONAT!" The purple ball of fluff roared, trembling as it attempted to put on a brave face.-drip-
-drip-
-drip- Like in a horror movie, drops of saliva puddled from underneath the shrub and pooled on the ground, a slight vapor coming off of the toxic saliva as it seemingly creeped toward the venonat, gaining a life of its own. The poor pokemon waddled backwards, baring its two pointed fangs towards the shrub as the leaves parted on it, and the croagunk revealed itself. "Krobus!" Sara called out into the wooded area of the park. Krobus froze, its eyes locked on the venonat, but the impulse to respond to its trainer was one that almost couldn't be ignored. They let out a deep gutteral croak, and took an intimidating step towards the venonat. "Ah! There you are Krobus! Stop running off!" Sara said, chastising the focused monster as it moved closer to its prey. "You're going back into your ball for now until we find something worth catching! I'll need you to distract it while I chuck pokeballs!" Sara said with a smile. Krobus' tongue began to flick from its mouth, but was quickly replaced by a bright red light as Krobus vanished from sight, the small pokeball in Sara's hand clicking closed. "There we go, now we can go and find some pokemon!" Sara said with a smile as she quickly turned on her heels and headed back towards the center of the park in search of some rare pokemon. The venonat let out a sigh of relief as Sara turned to leave, thanking whatever gods were looking out for it as it seemed that the human didn't notice them trembling in the clearing. ~~
Running from this encounter! Seeking a new one!
I'd like to use a potion between encounters to heal Krobus back to full.

As Sara walked out of the thick brush and more toward the center of the park, she could see trainers all around. "I wonder how everyone's doing..." Sara pondered. Sara took out her phone to check the time. The bug-catching contest was about halfway done by this point. While Sara already had caught one Pokemon, she was curious about what other Pokemon were in the park! Sara found a small brick road- seemingly a non-pokemon trainer walking path where they would be free from the bother of wild Pokemon attacking them. Sara started walking along the path, then picked up the pace as it seemed like others were already heading back to the contest organizer to show off their catch. The sizzlipede was a neat find, but surely this park had some other rare bugs! Sara quickly began poking through the tall grass on either side of the pathway.
"Huh?" Sara said, as she saw something small and grey wiggle out of sight. "Ah!" She said, pushing away a patch of grass revealing the grubbin underneath. "Alright! Another pokemon! Come on Krobus, time to distract this thing!" Sara called out, chucking Krobus' pokeball on the ground in a puff of smoke which quickly cleared to reveal the Croagunk standing there. "Crrroaaak!" Krobus said, seeing the Grubbin squirming on the ground right in front of it. "Time to distract it, Krobus!" Sara said with a smile. Krobus had other plans however, as they quickly raised their arms up in a fighting position as they licked their lips, slowly approaching the little bug. "No! Don't attack it!" Sara called out, but it was too late. Sara groaned in frustration as she attempted to chuck a ball at the small grub.

Sara grumbled as the -previously- mint condition bug was damaged by Krobus. She slapped a hand to her forehead, but Krobus didn't care. "Kro-KROAK!" Krobus shouted with glee, firing hit after hit of Poison Stings into the side of the small Grubbin. The Grubbin flailed in pain as it struggled to get away, firing off a defensive web at Krobus! Krobus backed off for a moment, covered in the sticky webbing and unable to move forward. The grubbin looked determined to defend itself, and Sara watched as Krobus took a painful looking splash of mud to the face, adding on a blinding effect in addition to obscuring Krobus' vision. Krobus stomped in frustration at the situation. Not only was this bug putting up more of a fight than he was expecting, but it was doing pretty much everything in its power to make the fight as slow and drawn out as possible. Krobus struggled to move towards the Grubbin, its toxic finger oozing with poisonous secretions as Krobus prepared once again to strike the grubbin with its poisonous attack. "Alright, well, it's not in mint condition anymore, but I'm still gonna give it a try!" Sara called out, arching her arm back to chuck a sport ball. Krobus let out a cry of protest "KROOOOOO!" As it leapt forward to continue its brawl with the Grubbin.
