The Flying Treatment (Route 30) [Mod-Solo thread]

As Selenia walks along Route 30, she enjoys the warm weather. As her usual routine, her bird Pokemon are flying around and in this case chasing each other. She reflects on her journey so far and the advice she has gotten from others especially Anty.

Anton was insistent that I pick up a secondary type even though water has dual types with every other type out there. She decided to go with flying types especially since Anton gave her Wings. Okay, it was more like Wings chose her over Anton for whatever the reason. As much as I didn't want to put my favorite water starters away, I do need to spend more time with my fliers. The idea of challenging a gym leader with his or her own type is appealing. They probably have face plenty of trainers who have done the same thing so doing it against Falkner won't surprise him at all. At same time, if she remembers right, Falkner has met Wings before right after he hatched for Anton.

As she stares up in the sky at her three flying Pokemon, she trips over a tree root but catches herself. She shakes her head at her disgust for not paying attention. She is so used to having some walking Pokemon warning her about what is in front of her.  Once her attention is back to the ground and her surroundings at eye level, she sees all sorts of Pokemon and possibly other trainers down the road.

Hmm, what will be my next battle? Will it be a trainer or a wild Pokemon?

Before she knew it, she is again daydreaming thinking back to her time in Hoenn. This makes her miss Muddy even more. At same time, she reflects on what she had learned during her short time in that region.

If Selenia was dreaming of water or flying types to add to her team for her epic showdown against Falkner, she would be poorly disappointed. In fact, the bane of both types was what magically appeared before her, bounding out of the grass with a bleat and a spark of electricity. Fluffy and enjoying the beautiful weather was a mareep, wool creamy and glistening under the warm summer sun. Its tail glowed with light and it moved with surprising grace and swiftness, bouncing over bushes and debris along the side of the path. However, the trainer would suddenly find her path blocked by the sheep as the mareep leapt over a log right into her path. 

The mareep, now noticing her, fluffed up and began to crackle with electricity.

Uh oh. 

It had been startled by seeing her and was now looking rather aggressive...

"A mareep!! This was one of the Pokemon I didn't want to run into with the team I've got. Anton's Clingly is an interesting Pokemon but not my style. Thankfully he taught me quite a bit about this Pokemon so even if I don't have the best team for it, I can still have a decent shot at fighting it. The biggest challenge is the thick wool which is inductive to creating static electricity. Anton did say this could cause a bit of parallelization so I got to be careful."

Selenia looks over her team and tries to remember each move. Flying moves won't be effective against it. Most of the moves her team knows are physical which means contact with the mareep. She brings up her pokedex and scans each one to recall what they all have.

"Hmm, it looks like Golden Claw has assurance which is a physical dark move. The move might have enough impact to weaken the mareep enough for a quick capture. I'm not sure if Anton needs a second mareep but it rarely hurts to have a second. If he doesn't need one, maybe he knows of a trainer who is interested in one. Alright, Golden Claw, I know this is risky but use assurance on this mareep. If it is successful, I will try to use a pokeball next time in hopes of making this a quick fight."

Golden Claw flies down towards Selenia to examine her next opponent. She listen carefully to Selenia's warning remembering the pink tall woolly Pokemon the trainer Anton had. Golden Claw flies up to Selenia's face and looks her straight in the eyes. She nods are her trainer as she pivots to face the mareep.

>>You will not block our way for long. I'm not 100% certain what my trainer has in mind for you but rest assured this will be a quick fight. I may be at a disadvantage but I will not go down easily.<<

The blue sheep scoffed. This bird was talking to it like that?! Clearly, this wild avian never came across Mareep the Great, the one Mareep to scare them all! There were tales of its feats that scared even the toughest of rock or ground types, thanks to its ability to use a lightning bolt-based attack so powerful it to topple cities. “You need to mind your manners and watch who it is you’re talking to!” Mareep snapped back, taking one step daringly closer as it craned its neck to stare up at the flighty bird.

“You know that I have Onix that are scared to fight me? Yep, its true!” Mareep smirked, reaching one of its blue legs up and placing it dramatically over the center of its chest. “It’s difficult to be me, though don’t let all this glamor and fame fool you!” It then dropped its limb and trotted over to jump behind a large bush, only to have Golden Claw slam into the sheep and send it spiraling back out of hiding. Owww. Now that really hurt, Mrs. Bird, and Mareep just didn’t appreciate your meanness!

“What was that for? I guess I gotta teach you how I got my nickname huh?” It lowered its haunches and pressed its head close to its shoulders, lessening the amount of neck that was exposed. Large bolts of lightning streaked through its dense wool. “What’s that, the crowd asks? Sure, I’ll enlighten you, even if you don’t deserve to hear the tail! I’m known at ‘the Great’ or ‘Greatest there ever was’! But you can just call my Your Ruler, or you can scram!” Mareep scoffed, sending a powerful blast of electricity that would paralyze the small bird.

"Golden Claw, let me use a Pokeball first to see if we can end this encounter quickly. None of you three are exactly best suited for this fight and you are already paralyzed. If we are lucky, the capture will be successful and then we can move onto whatever is next in our adventure. If the mareep does bust out, get another assurance ready. Another hit from you should make it that much easier to catch."

Golden Claw readies another attack as Selenia grabs one of her empty Pokeballs. She isn't 100% certain what she will do with this one since Anton already has one and mareep don't catch her fancy. As she gets ready to toss the ball, she stares down the mareep as it makes the usual sounds for one of its kind. Before she tosses, she glances up and sees Golden Claw ready to go. Times like these makes her wonder what would have happen if she did stay in Hoenn and tried her hand at contest coordinator. Muddy wasn't the easiest to train but they only really begun when her leg broke. At same time, she can't help but miss the few friends she had from there. The only annoying thing is no matter where she goes, there always seems to be one or two criminal groups thinking they can take over the region or steal every Pokemon in sight.

<No one shall capture I, Mareep the Great! For I am fearsome and awesome and striker terror into the souls of my foes. You should cower and bow and flee! Capture me? I scoff at the very notion. I shall NOT be caught nor tamed. Such assumptions are uncouth and for them I shall should you no mercy. Prepare yourself for my wrath!> The sheep sparked up again but before it could do any attacking, a ball flew through the air and bonked it right between the eyes. There was a flash of red light and suddenly, the sheep was trapped inside, rattling the capsule back and forth violently.

It looked for a moment like the sheep would break free and rage!!!

But the ball fell still.

Silent.

The great mareep defeated.

Selenia is pleased to have this fight done in a quick manner. Her team would have had issues if it went on further than what it had. Golden Claw is able to shake off the paralyze effect once the battle is over. To her amusement, it looks like Golden Claw is trying to practice a new move. Time like these really amaze her that Pokemon can learn things so easily just by battling. Many of her human friends seem to struggle to learn new things or even have the desire to. Others, on the other hand, enjoy the experience of learning new things and sometimes seek out ways to learn new things. While she is watching Golden Claw practice, she notices some dark clouds coming towards her direction. Within a couple of minutes, rain and lightning start coming from those clouds.

"Golden Claw, return! I don't want you to get hit by anything from this storm."

Selenia brings out her pokeballs as she summons Golden Claw. The shiny spearow didn't fight the recall as she already had enough with lightning and electricity for a while. The golden bird changes into the red light and is sucked back into the pokeball. Selenia recalls her two other flying Pokemon as she starts getting her rain gear out. Good thing she came prepared for all sorts of weather but also this reminds her to pay closer attention to the forcast.

I do wonder what other Pokemon I will run into on this route.

Selenia finds a large tree to take shelter under. It isn't much but is enough for her to hunch down and swing her back pack off. She digs through it to find her Pokedex. She brings up the map of Jhoto and the routes. Then she clicks on her route and sees what Pokemon have been seen on this route.

As much as I enjoy catching Pokemon, this can get a bit lonely without Anton around. Maybe he will have a need of a second mareep.

There was a crack of thunder that roiled behind a bright blue flash of lightning. The rain that the young trainer retreated from beneath the sheltering branches of a tree was quickly turning into a storm. Black clouds started to close in overhead. Wind whipped and roared. Sometimes these things came in sudden and harsh, just a brief few minutes of nature throwing a fit before moving on and leaving behind clear skies and sticky humidity. 

Regardless, it soon became obvious that she was not alone in sheltering here.

"Golden Claw, let me use a pokeball!" Wait. That was her voice. But she didn't say that just now... Where? If she looked around, she would spot a soaking wet chatot a few branches above her, shaking out its feathers as it croaked out some more mimicked words—gathered chatter from passerbys. It didn't seem to notice the trainer yet, more interested in grooming than battling, perhaps?

Selenia looks at the chatot and is glad to see this bird. The hope is this will be an easy catch and if trained properly, maybe it can be a translator for her between herself and the Pokemon. She knows the Pokemon understand her or at least that is the common belief when it comes to attacks. How much a Pokemon truly understands of human speech and reasoning is still an unexplored territory since the only known way for communication is through a psychic type using telepathy. The big question becomes who does she want to use for this experience.

"Whom should I use out of your three? I don't know how strong or fast this Pokemon is who is imitating me. I've got an idea on what I want to do with this chatot if we catch it."

After staring up at her three flying Pokemon, she decides on Wings. If she is to have him face off against Faulkner in the near future, Wings will need a bit more experience and power.

"Okay, after thinking about it, Wings I want you to use quick attack on this chatot with hopes of not dropping it completely."

The swellow nods and suddenly turns his attention to the mimic voice Pokemon and flies as fast as he can towards his target.

"Wings I want you to use quick attack!" chatot parroted before fluttering closer, head tilted in curiosity. Chatot weren't especially aggressive pokemon. Often they were peace makers, though they could get into their fair share of mischief! It mostly just sat there on a low branch as Wings sprang from their ball and flew fast as a streak of light towards it. Blue wings fluttered with alarm right before impact and it flailed back, falling from its perch. OW! That hurt. The little chatot began to grumble in annoyance now, eyes keen and narrow. Instead of retaliating, it flew up to the taillow and started to confide some rather nasty gossip with the bird about humans.

Yeah, yeah, can't trust 'em. Give a fellow bird a break, yeah?
