Caitlin was never able to participate in it because of the requirements. Now, as she walked proudly into the registration area with her Zephyr badge on display, she was awarded the respect deserved for her victory. She listened carefully as the worker went over the rules with her. It wasn’t difficult, but she did frown slightly at the fact that she could only bring in one Pokemon with her. If that was the case, there was only one Pokemon she would walk into this with, and that was her starter. After turning in the rest of her team and collecting her provided sports balls, the fiery trainer walked away from the registration area and entered the Park itself. Eyes peeled, she started into the tall grass, knowing that there would be Pokemon there. She didn’t know what she would encounter or how strong the wild Pokemon were going to be, but she believed in her Pokemon and that was good enough for the moment. A bug type that is native to Hoenn. It lives around clean ponds. At night, its rear lights up and it communicates with others by flashing the light. It loves the sweet aroma given off by Illumise. “ Interesting. She didn’t want to waste time with her challenge and so Azazel stepped forward for battle, his claws out and ready. ”Azzie, use Fire Fang, we need a good hit,” she said. As her Pokemon dashed forward to perform the attack that was commanded, Caitlin had a park ball in her hand. It was as expected and she wasn’t surprised, but execution was still a very important part of the battling process and the fact that her Pokemon did so well made her happy. It was to be expected from her starter and most loyal partner. The lightening bug was absorbed inside the ball and it landed in the grass, before the latch pinged and the capture was made. Yay! First try! Proud of herself, she scooped up the poke ball and shrunk it down, putting it inside her hoodie pocket. If she remembered the rules correctly, she would compare this capture to any other bug that came along and she would have to decide which one to submit for judgment at the end. Before the pair could even move, a new bug had appeared, but this one was both smaller and looked younger than the Pokemon she just captured. ”Weedle, the hairy bug Pokemon. A bug and poison type. Often found in forests and and grasslands. It has a sharp, toxic barb of around two inches on top of its head. Its poison stinger is very powerful. It’s bright colored body is intended to warn off its enemies.” Nope, she didn’t like that. Poison was tricky and since she could only use Azazel, getting poisoned was a huge risk. ”Come, Azazel. A bug and poison type Pokemon, and the evolved form of Weedle. Almost incapable of moving, this Pokemon can only harden its shell to protect itself when it is in danger. While awaiting Evolution, it hides from predators under leaves and in the nooks of branches.” Yeah, she wasn’t impressed. This wasn’t that much better than when she walked away from the caterpillar itself. However, Caitlin was starting to see that a lot of the bugs in the tall grass today were young and not even offering up a decent challenge for Azazel, which was really why they decided to come today. The Charmeleon snorted in annoyance as they continued walking, until the next bug approached. This species was unknown to Cailtin, and so her poke dex was once again out and providing some information. ”Grubbin, the larva Pokemon. A Bug type native to Alola. Grubbin normally live underground, but if they get unearthed by Hoothoot, they may be found gathered around electric Pokemon. It spits sticky threads and winds them around branches, the swings nimbly from tree to tree in a pendulum-like motion.” As much as she enjoyed learning about different types of Pokemon, she had really been hoping to find something amazing out here, but it wasn’t working out that way. Caitlin began to wonder if most of the good bugs had been captured already, as she was late to the start of the contest. Many others had been reporting on time and were allowed into the park first, no doubt encountering some good specimens. She was ready to call it a day and Azazel had been frustrated that there had been nothing in the park to truly challenge him. On a certain level, the lizard should not have been surprised considering the park was filled with bugs and he was a fire type Pokemon. He still had his pride though and she wanted to indulge him for a little bit longer. It would turn out that their patience and decision to stay would come in handy as a Pinsir approached them from the high grass, its head pincers clanging together in challenge. Her Poke dex pinged, highlighting the new Pokemon. ”Pinsir, the stag beetle Pokemon. A bug type. These Pokemon judge one another based on pincers. Thicker, more impressive pincers make for more popularity with the opposite gender. This Pokemon clamps its pincers down on its prey and then either splits the prey in half or flings it away.” Smirking, Azazel took a fighting stance and blew smoke from his nostrils. ”Azzie, use Fire Fang!” It had been the bread and butter move all afternoon, and she wasn’t about to stop using it now. Heat flooded the Charmeleon’s front teeth as he dashed forward in an attempt to bite down on the bug type. She probably would be too if she was an insect minding her own business and a human came to catch her. That was just the way it was, though, and she let those thoughts go. Gripping the poke balls in her pocket, she had a choice to make. The time for the contest was almost over.
