Camielle Matas New Bark Town. Feels a lot like Pallet Town. There's just this feeling of hope and potential in the air of this little older town. It was quiet, but not too quiet. There were still people around. Researchers and town-folk going about their business. And speaking of business-- today's the day to see Professor Elm.
Camielle had her running attire on; a casual, athletic look. An experienced trainer in a not-familiar land. It was exciting to say the least.
When entering the science facility, the nostalgia began to rise again. Here she was, in a research center in a older town, and just as excited as any child ready for their first adventure. Except she was 32, and this would be about her third adventure. Only this time-- this journey was in a new land. That meant new pokemon. Some will be familiar, but some won't be. And the eagerness to learn more could only be matched by those of the pokemon researchers.
After speaking with the research assistant to locate the Professor, the greeting and formalities went quick. As they usually do. Even though Camielle knew what to generally expect, she allowed the Professor to go through the whole spiel. And, of course, the ever-continuing quest to being pokemon information back to him to be logged and stored in the online system along with every other research notes. Though collecting research data was not her main goal; she'd keep it in mind this time around.
Now that left the three choices. Three familiar choices. And with careful consideration, Camielle chose Bulbasaur as her first starter this time around.
"I hope you and Bulbasaur will have a safe and exciting journey together."
"Thank you, Professor Elm. I'll take good care of him." Camielle replied as she then made her leave.
Outside the facility, Camielle found a nearby bench to sit on while she held the Bulbasaur's ball in her hand.
This is it. This is such an important moment. Oh I can barely wait!
With the push of the pokeball's button, the iconic 'swoosh' noise came from the device as it opened to release a flash of light. When that light formed a little Bulbasaur, Camielle's smile brightened even more.
"Hello there, Bulbasaur. It's very nice to meet you."
The Bulbasaur's large eyes were watching Camielle for a few moments, but then trailed to the sides to take in his new surrounding. Outside. Nice sun. Clear skies. It was only after seeing that it was safe and open-spaced did the pokemon look to Camielle with a big smile of his own.
"It is a really pretty day, and a really big space. And we're going to explore so many placed together, and find many other beautiful spaces with lots of sunshine and grass. How does that sound?"
That peeked the Bulbasaur's interest. Though he was a little skeptical at first, he would give things a shot.
"Alright. I'll take that as a yes. How about we walk around the city edge for a bit. See if there's anything left laying around or there's any pokemon to encounter. We'll get a good sense of how we can walk together. Sound good?"
Considering that the Bulbasaur didn't run off or throw a fit, that meant he was okay with the idea. It's alright if he wasn't enthusiastic. Camielle and this Bulbasaur were getting to know each other. It was all new to both of them.
"Wonderful. Alright. Well I just had a egg benny for break-"
"-Bulba."
"Yes, Bulbasaur? Something the matter?"
The pokemon merely looked to his human partner with a 'I'm waiting' expression.
"Oh-- I should give you a name! Right. How about Benny. It would be Benedict, but I think Benny is sweeter. How does that sound."
With that, the pokemon took a couple steps towards Camielle's leg and rest his forehead against her shin. The sight melted Camielle's heart.
"Alright Benny-boy. Let's go for a walk."

It was a lovely day and New Bark Town was quiet at usual, even though a lot of people were out and about. One man in his thirties were leaning on his fence and watching Camielle's interaction with Benny with curiosity. She looked like a new trainer meeting her first pokemon, a sight he had seen countless of times already, but could that be true? She was far older than the usual ten-year-old, why was she starting now? He knew better than to pry at things which did not concern him, so he didn't ask, but he stayed and watched in the hope of get some of his curiosity satisfied. Right beside the bench Camielle chose to meet her starter pokemon, was a board. A big wooden board with a few notes on them, which held some odd jobs if she was interested in that. There were some which probably wasn't of her interest as it would lock her in New Bark for quite some time, things like being a strawberry picker for a month, or walking an old woman's lillipup each day. There were a couple who might catch her interest though. She was free to ignore them of course, if they weren't of her interest, if she wanted to go hunting for more team members, although one thing wouldn't necessarily exclude the other. They wouldn't need to go far to encounter their first wild pokemon, they could actually see it from where they stood: a spinda was making its way into the town, stumbling and wobbly gait which the species was so well known for. The way it kept look around looked rather suspiciously though, and it took extra time to make sure it wasn't spotted before it pushed a loose board to the side in a fence, and it disappeared inside. Spinda [Lv 5] is acting suspiciously and sneaking into a garden. Camielle Matas When Camielle stood from the bench and did a small stretch, the bulletin board was one of the first things she saw nearby. Literally beside her.
“Hmm? A job board? Oh that’s really helpful. What a great way for us to learn how to work together. Lets see some of these jobs, here.”
She took a few steps to the board and faced it. Each line read and each item examined. All things that seemed like they could be immediate. Though there were a few that weren’t. Likely posts that have been here for a while; or would be here for a while.
Picking berries and walking a… a what? Some sort of canine pokemon, right? It had ‘pup’ in the name, so that was the easiest deduction.
Nonetheless—some of these jobs felt like any new adventurer would potentially be stunted in their growth of reaching the next city if they took on any of these tasks….
But I bet the people would be really grateful…
“Right… They all look important. Maybe we should… What.. pokemon is that?” Camielle’s thoughts derailed as she spotted the spiral, dizzy, bunny-looking pokemon. Benny meandered his attention casually over to the foreign pokemon as well, and decided that wherever it was going—he was interested.
Camielle could have stopped her Bulbasaur from walking towards the fence, but was more interested in observing her new partner’s behavior. So the little guy was curious. He still looked unimpressed and with that little half smile; but he was engaged. So Camielle followed.
“Hey, Benny, do you smell anything? We shouldn’t sneak into that fence. One; neither of us are going to fit. Two; it could be trespassing.”
As her speech fell on half-deaf ears, Benny did indeed stop what he was doing and turned his attention to Camielle. However… one of his vines snaked out from the base of his bulb and pointed out that there were more damage to the planks. The fence needed fixing, for sure.
“Oh… Well look at you. Let me see if I can find out who is in charge of this fence. Hmm.”
Camielle glanced around the area and spotted the man leaning against another fence.
“Oh. Hi. Excuse me. Sir? Can you tell me who is in charge of this fence? We saw a pokemon go through one of the planks, and don’t know who to contact to let them know.”
Benny looked to the man, looked to the planks, then looked to Camielle. Ultimately, he decided to stay new the proactive and protective-looking human. Though he occasionally eye’d the fence like he was really wanting to see what was on the other side… though he couldn’t fit the space with his wide form and the bulb on his back. Still—he could dream. Or scheme. Make plans, nonetheless.

The man leaning against the fence turned to look at Camielle, as if woken from a daze, like he had been standing there for a while. He stood bolt upright and scrambled over to where she pointed at the loose board and swore. "So THAT is how that thief has been gettin' in here! This right here is my fence, and there is a blasted menace of a pokemon comin' in and stealing things outta my garden. You said y'saw somethin'? A pokemon? I've been out here all day tryna figure out if it was a pokemon or the neighborhood kid uprootin' all my vegetables before they could grow!" He opened a gate and pointed, "You're a trainer, right? Well, get in there and handle it. I'll go get some tools from my shed so I can fix that loose board. Catch it, chase it off, I don't care. I just want it gone." As he left without staying to see if she would do as he ordered, Camielle would be left with a very clear view of the spinda creeping along, spinning and stumbling as it moved, towards a garden bed. When there, it started to grab at the green parts of vegetables...and pulling them up and out of the soil! It then spun around and FLUNG the plant. Whether that was on purpose or not was yet to be seen.
The [LV 5] Spinda is being a menace!

Camielle Matas Oh—this was the gentleman’s property. Excellent. Now—
It was a rush of actions from when the man approached Camielle and Benny, spoke his story of frustration, then opened the gate and left her to handle the situation.
While that was a bit of an interaction, Camielle knew the situation was urgent. Crops needed to be protected too, and pokemon causing problems needed to be handled. Delicately, of course.
Right. Time to work.
“Alright Benny, lets head in.”
The Bulbasaur didn’t need to be told twice. He was already thinking the same thing; though he let Camielle go through the gate first, then followed behind her. Mostly because if there was a serious threat, the human looked more intimidating than he did for now; so the human could handle things.
Spotting the 3’ tall long-ear’d pokemon with an equilibrium issue, Camielle tried to follow a few feet behind the distracted dizzy pokemon. Though as it whipped vegetables around like a battle top, she was convinced that there was something indeed more wrong here.
Though before she could make an assessment; Camielle drew her pokedex from her thigh pocket of her athletic leggings and pointed it at the strange pokemon. It then began reading out loud.
“Spinda. The ‘Spot Panda’ Pokémon. All the Spinda that exist in the world are said to have utterly unique spot patterns. No two are alike. The shaky, tottering steps of this Pokémon give it the appearance of dancing. The lurching movements can cause the opponent to become confused. However, its steps are staggering and unsteady, but Spinda thinks it's walking in a straight line. Walking for a long time makes it feel sick.”
“Feel sick? Well, I don’t think it was feeling sick when it knew to come here and do this to the garden. Seems like this is repeat behavior.” Camielle asked herself.
Looking up from her pokedex to see the pokemon’s continued destruction.
“Hello, Spinda? Please stop pulling up the vegetables. If you’re hungry, I’ll help get you some food.”
Of course while the human was shouting at the other pokemon, Benny the Bulbasaur stepped over to one of the nearby vegetables that were uprooted and gave it a sniff. Was there something wrong with the vegetation?
Going to one of the holes where the vegetable was uprooted, it gave another sniff. Was the soil not good for the vegetables?
Inquisitive for sure; Benny was running his own small investigation while the more intimidating one of the two of them was trying to handle the pokemon. But surely if he needed to step in, he would do so. The human seemed to be kind enough to not have him outright attack the unknown pokemon; not that he was the type of pokemon to do so anyway. It felt… nice to be paired with a human who did seem to put communication first. He’d note that, and see if the human continued that approach in the future.

Mister Youngman remained very grateful for the young woman and her helpful bulbous plant Pokemon. He’d tried so many things to try to get them to leave or avoid his place, though none of them worked. The plates of discarded bits of food remnants only caused more destruction when they finished the leftovers he had put outside and moved to his garden again. The traps only caused them to find better ways to enter. And causing an altercation with them when he had no Pokemon of his own to defend him was a great way to lose his life! “Oh Arceus, please…stay her hand and her tongue so that she might find success in driving out those varmints…” He prayed underneath his breath. Spinda turned to the strange sound behind its head and growled. Who was imposing themselves in its domain?! It worked hard to find this fresh source of food! It wouldn’t let some stupid human or other wild Pokemon try to take the gardens away so easily. Spinda teetered at bit, wobbling back-and-forth, as it spun around. Those strange looking eyes cooked up into spirals on its face squinted and narrowed with an enraged expression to Camielle. “These are my food fair and square!” It hissed, stuffing one of the berries quickly in its mouth with a loud chomp. “You’d better get before I tear you into two pieces, stupid human!”Spinda ignored Camielle’s words and turned back to the vegetables and fruits, plucking each with ease one after the other. Who in their right mind would give up free food?! Clearly, words wouldn’t work here. Camielle hadn’t done anything to earn the Pokemon’s trust or respect, so why would it care what she had to offer. “I’ll take your food too, if you’ll leave me alone with it and the gardens.” It snickered. “I’m definitely not giving up a free buffet. Humans and their ‘I can feed myself any time that I want’ attitude have no idea what it’s like out here. Spoiled, pampered, good-for-nothings!” Spinda muttered angrily to itself. It would pick up a couple of rocks and toss them at Camielle if she didn’t listen, to try and make her leave. Benny plopped out trying to soothe Spinda’s heart and speak directly to the small bear. It paused, dropping the couple of rocks it held in one of its paws and turned to the bulbous plant-like Pokemon. It narrowed its swirly eyes and raised an incredulous eyebrow. “What is it that I want?!” It scoffed, placing one of its clawed paws on its side after balling it up into a tight fist. “Look around you, man! What do you think a wild Pokemon like me wants?!” He demanded with a loud growl. It’s voice was booming, and enough to scare the Mister Youngman who slowly backed up with a nervous laugh. “Are you sure you can handle this for me?” He asked Camielle, worried about questioning her. He immediately raised both hands up and waved them in front of his face in case he’d upset her. “N-not to question you or anything! I just…don’t want to cause you more trouble than it’s worth.” He tried to reassure her. He needed help, that was an obvious statement that anyone could see with a simple glance around the gardens. Though, Mister Youngerman supposed he could ask the local police if it was too much for the local trainers to handle. “I want food! Our local food source has been obliterated thanks to some young punks!” The Spinda turned around on the tips of its clawed paws and growled loudly at Benny. It seemed it was missing something from the copycat technique. Hmm…. When Benny growled at Spinda, the wild bear could feel it underneath its skin and it caused small goosebumps to prop up along its flesh. When it growled back, it was just shouting hot air at the other Pokemon. What gives? Wild Encounter Weather: Clear [attr="class","qkt-bkgd"] [attr="class","qkt-wild-pkmn"] Spinda LV 5 HP 100% [22/22]

Camielle Matas The Spinda was absolutely upset; het it spent more time communicating than it did in trying to attack. If anything, the toddler-sized Pokémon brandished it’s claws but… then didn’t act. It did a sort of less intimidating growl as compared to Benny; but it wasn’t hostile.
Aggressive, but not hostile. Yeah, there was something wrong.
“Alright Benny, help me out here. What’s the Spinda looking for?”
As Benny contemplated how to communicate with the human, he used one of his vines to pick up one of the carrots by the leaf and offer it to the Spinda by placing it at the other Pokémon’s feet.
“We don’t have to fight. The human’s are just looking to end conflict. If your local source is as you say; then fighting won’t help anyone. Right?” Benny’s tones were softer than before. A sort of compassionate.
Camielle had her focus on the man the same age as her. “We will certainly handle this. There’s no trouble when we can get to the root of issues and solve them together.”
Benny heard Camielle’s words, and looked at the human by doing a side step and standing sideways so he could see Camielle and the Spinda.
“I am sure if you show the humans your food source, they will help restore it. Especially the human who was already offering help.” After his words of hopeful encouragement, Benny went back to face the Spinda; but not in an aggressive pose. He even sad down, and looked docile.
“I don’t want to fight when we can fix things instead…” The Bulbasaur said over to the Spinda.
Now seeing Benny…. sitting…. Camielle looked to Benny, and became less defensive and on edge. “Benny? Are you okay?” She asked her partner, but then eyed the still battle-readied Spinda. Her look one of concern, instead of anger or upset. There was enough chatter from the Pokémon that something must have been said to pause the encounter. Otherwise— Benny wasn’t in any pain from any apparently moves. So what was going to happen next?

"Uh... Are you sure, the human will help me?" The Spinda wasn't sure, since this Bulbasaur and human were strangers, but nevertheless, the innocent bear turned around and began waddling to walk toward a tiny bundle of berry bushes where it and its group would grab food from. However, around the bush were bitten or stomped berries, discarded berry seeds, or messy berry juice staining the grass around the bushes. It was a short walk away from the farm where the man was standing. It began talking again. "Do you see these bushes? These are the berries my fellow Spindas eat before some punks showed up. They usually come at around the same time. Now, what is your human going to do?" The Spinda asked curiously, twirling and wobbling like normal. Camielle Matas The Spinda became less hostile it seemed, so Camielle assumed it was something that Benny had said. Now they were being led out through the garden and to someplace not too far. A sweet little berry bush. Sadly, it looked to have been in disarray.
Benny looked between the Spinda and the human, then began to pick up some of the discarded berry bits and put them into a nearby ground using his claws to dig a little bit, then his vines to make a hole in the dirt for the berry remains to be planted.
Camielle saw how Benny was also trying to make things right, and she set out to do the same.
“I think what happened is that this Spinda was getting it’s food from this bush here, but it looks like someone came by and hurt the plant and damaged almost all the berries.” As Camielle pointed at the various bits of evidence, she tossed her focus back to the man behind her.
“I’ll help you repair your garden and fence, if I may borrow a watering tin and some of the broken fence to make a little sign to let people know not to harm this bush. Do you know if anyone’s been by to hurt this plant?”
Benny could hear the human’s words, and it made him smile a little. Using what small grass essence he had, he focused his natural powder from his bulb to help the plants regain their strength. Both the one in need of new growth and berries; and the new planted berry bush.
Of course Camielle would be by to water it and help make a makeshift sign. Doing so would have cost them hours of their own precious time and work well into the afternoon of things.
But it was worth every bit of effort. Because then the man’s fence and garden would be fixed, and the Spinda and other pokemon life would have their own pair of berry bushes, instead of just one.
“What an eventful morning.” Camielle wiped sweat from her forehead as she leaned against a shovel that was stick in the ground.
Benny was also pretty tired from all the planting and helping the plants speed up their growth just a little bit. But it was indeed worth it, and he appreciated not having to fight a pokemon who was just needing help. It gave the human some respect in Benny’s eyes.
“Alright Sir,” Camielle spoke to the man who she had helped and who had helped her. “If you can help look out for those bushes over back behind your house, I’m sure the wild pokemon won’t be getting into your garden anymore. And hopefully if they need help, they can try to get your attention for help instead of throwing around vegetables.”
“Sounds fair to me.” Benny spoke to the Spinda, adding affirmation to his human’s words.

With the fence now repaired Spinda was quite relieved that the immediate issue had been solved. Though it did not have any major problems remaining it had started to trust Camielle though being a wild Pokemon it was not going to give up it's freedom without a battle. " I am really starting to trust your trainer but before I do anything else I want to finish our battle before I make any decisions. Do you mind if we get started again?" The Spinda then started to do a clumsy yet happy dance as it waited for Bemny to make a move. The panda Pokemon did not want to be rude and attack Benny after recieving help without giving thenyoung Bulbasaur a chance to recieve an order from it's trainer first however a rare Pokemon lioe itself could not wait around forever and would have to make a move soon. If Camielle did not give Benny an order to attack very soon the poor Bulbasaur might find itself the victim of a one sided round. Camielle Matas The work was done. Things were settling down, and all seemed well.
The Spinda still wanted to have a battle of sorts, but it would have more of a feeling of a friendly spar. It was psyched up with hopeful energy now, and both Benny and Camielle could see that.
“Well alright. I’m glad to offer a friendly battle. What about you Benny?”
The Bulbasaur gave a snarky smile and a small wiggle of his bulb; certainly ready to use some more of it’s energy that it absorbed from the beautiful sunlight of the afternoon filled with working.
“Alright Spinda, here we come. Benny, lets do a Vine Whip.”
As such, those helpful vines of Benny’s emerged from his bulb and would attempt to whip at the Spinda to have it keep it’s distance while causing it’s own sort of damage.

With the battle restarted (and perhaps properly this time), the spinda waited for Benny to make a move. This was to be a friendly spar, the level of aggression far reduced due to the kindness the trainer showed, but that didn't mean the spinda was 'going down' without showing what it was capable of doing. It was a wild pokemon, after all, and it wasn't about to give up its freedom to someone who wasn't strong enough to protect it from all the big and scary stuff out there in the world. Lowering its head as those vines came out, the spinda charged in, slamming into Benny and pushing the bulbasaur's stance a little off center. As the plant-pokemon's frame rocked, he retaliated in kind, wrapping a vine around the spinda's middle and tossing the bear away to pit some distance between them. The spinda panted. Camielle Matas Rough play was to be expected out of a battle, but things were still going well. It was evenly matched thus far, and overall the energy was elevated yet still in controllable ranges.
“Alright Benny, once more, Vine Whip to make Spinda more dizzy!”
And thus, Benny would whip his vines in attempts to disorient the already naturally dizzy pokemon.
