Operation: Historical Tales (Bike)

Kevin approached the start of Route 37 quiet eager to train enough to be ready for the next gym as quickly as possible. He did not know a lot about the next gym leader besides them liking ghost types and their name being Morty but those two things were a great start as Kevin knew Eiskalt would be a huge help in such a gym once she grew stronger. The good news was that the sun had just starting coming up as he reached the entrance to the route so the lighting conditions had improved quite a bit. It was not ideal by any means as the trees surrounding the area produced a lot of dark shadows but better than being pitch black.

Thanks to the improved lighting conditions Kevin was able to get a better look at the two towers and even from this distance could see how the Burned Tower got it's name. Most of the tower was pitch black and what little remained of the original color was hardly worthy of note. Several floors were totally missing as well as the upper floors had seen the worst of the fire one hundred and fifty years ago. How only only of the towers suffered such a fate and not both was anyone's guess but a sudden downpour shortly after the fire had saved what still remained standing to this day.

" It cannot be overstated how much history this city has, if walls could talk I could only imagine the stories they could tell. The ghost type Pokemon in the area may have even witnessed the fire they have been in the area so long. It is even said the legendary beasts who roam this region were created by Ho-oh as they were revived by the mighty creature after originally perishing in the blaze. Oh how I would love to be able to prove that tale is true someday as it is fascinating." Having gotten caught up in his emotions of the towns history he finally got back to the task at hand after a moment as he could hear an individual warning passerby trainers of a Pokemon they had recently spotted.

" Everyone be careful, I ran into a really strange looking Pokemon that seemed to have an affinity for racing. I was minding my business walking down route 37 when one sped right by me and almost tore my clothes off before it vanished into the trees. I do not know if it meant harm but I do not want to find out. The noise it made was horrifying as well as it sounded like a dying motorcycle engine." Kevin having caught wind of the whole conversation was quite intrigued by the though of a Pokemon that made engine noises. He was not entirely sure what it could be yet but he wanted to try and find out.


" Well it looks like we have a side objective while we are out here training, if there is a strange Pokemon that likes to race it could hurt someone who doesn't see it coming even with all the noise it makes. I would love to get to study such a creature and I do believe it could be a great Pokemon to have around instead of walking everywhere if it is big enough. Just in case I want Oracle to be ready to support Eiskalt if whatever it is proves too tough for her to handle. I do not want any of use getting hurt by a strange Pokemon when we are so close to Ecruteak." He then started looking around for any signs of the mysterious Pokemon.

A speedy pokemon used for racing and transportation? Ah, clearly what Kevin was looking for was the mighty stantler, who in ancient times could evolve into the mighty Wyrdeer! What a majestic creature that was in yesteryear, with a coat as white as the snowy mountains of Sinnoh it used to roam, carrying the boldest of humans upon its back should someone play a special song upon a flute. And look. There was its descendant, skittish but intimidating in stature, idly grazing, enjoying the pleasant weather as it nibbled on the tastiest leaves of a nearby apricorn bush. Mmmm. It even crunched down on a few apricorns that had yet to fully ripen and develop those hard shells that craftsmen used to make pokeballs before modern times.

What a wonderful moment that could be tied back to the rich history of this city! 

Such majesty.

As soon as Kevin laid eyes on the Stantler he knew it was not quite the Pokemon he was looking for however it was still a Pokemon that could have a connection to the cities history as well as having a fascinating evolution. Kevin had recently heard about a recent discovery involving how to evolve Stantler in modern times and it was something he wanted to try and do if he could convince the Stantler to join him. Doing so would be a tall order however as they tended to be a bit skittish when spooked and were known for having strong legs that could shatter most balls before they had a chance of capturing them.

Kevin did have one advantage as that was that both Oracle and Eiskalt's species were faster than a Stantler without the deer boosting it's speed so he had a high chance of striking first before it could try and pull any tricks. As knocking Stantler out was the last thing on his mind he could not risk using Force Palm or Aura Sphere if he had Oracle try and weaken it while Eiskalt had a low chance of knocking the deer out on the first turn. With that in mind he decided to let the weasel Pokemon try her luck against the strange normal type across from them.

" Eiskalt I think you will be great for this, I want you to try your best not to go all out on this Stantler while still trying to cause a lot of damage. It is a bit risky as Icicle Crash has a good chance of knocking Stantler out if you score a critical hit but I am willing to risk it. If nothing else at least we will get to see how fast you really are against a similar leveled foe." He then watched as the young Weavile took off like a bullet towards Stantler. As she ran towards the deer Pokemon she started to summon a large icicle with her cold breath before flinging the large piece of ice as hard as she could.

Kevin watched in amazement of her speed and power and hoped bad luck would not ruin the so far perfect set up Eiskalt had performed. As he did not have much in the way of healing a quick battle was in his best interest and he grabbed one of his Ultra Balls from his backpack getting ready to toss it hoping things would go his way.

As Stantler almost managed to dodge the incoming icicle Eiskalt was able to toss it just hard enough to connect before the deer Pokemon could jump out of the way. She was unable to dodge the incoming Sand Attack but it did not make a difference as Kevin watched his Ultra Ball hit the Stantler right between the eyes. After a brief struggle the ball shook three times and clicked shut to his amazement as he was prepared for a long struggle as Stantler were not usually so easy to catch. He wiped the sweat off his forehead still shocked by what had happened before he could bring himself to react to the series of events.

" Well I did not expect this battle to be over so soon. Our new friend should be quite an addition to our ranks however especially if that study about how to evolve it was correct. From what I remember the only person in Johto who can teach our new friend the required move we will need Sweet Hearts so we will have to hunt some of them down whenever we get a chance." As he thought about where such elegant chocolates might be located he figured making a quick pitstop to the local Pokemon Center to add the Stantler to his team so he could get to know it better.

He opened the box on the computer and placed Jumbo's Pokeball in it and replaced it with the Stantler's Ultra Ball before making his way back to route 37. As their new friend was from the area he felt as though it would not hurt to ask the deer if it knew anything about the swarm he had heard of or if it knew anything about the fire from so long ago. " Hello new friend, since I guess you are from around these parts I wonder if you know anything about two things. First do you know of anything about a strange Pokemon that makes an awful noise? Second do you know anything about the fire from long ago?"

The Stantler then started to prance around before leading Kevin and the rest of his Pokemon to a clearing along route 37 that seemed to have a bunch of damaged trees nearby. Alongside the trees was a large amount of moss covering what appoeared to be a statue. As he wiped the statue down the best he could it was soon clear it was that of a Wyrdeer that he had heard about. Taking it as a clue that evolving Stantler might awaken it's ancient memories he now had a plan in place. " Ah this statue is clearly what I have heard of. This must mean your species holds ancient memories possibly of the fire from long ago that are triggered upon evolution. Well let's get to work making that happen."

He then started to look around for anything the Stantler might be able to handle on it's own to grow a bit stronger while he tried to find more intel about the location of Sweet Hearts.

Staravia had been banished from their pack, an outcast amongst its own flock. The Starling Pokemon was constantly being beaten up in territorial warfare amongst their species, hence the leader of the flocks decision to remove the 'weak link' from the clan. The grayish-brown, avian Pokémon with black and white markings was determined to prove itself as a valiant warrior, even if it came at the cost of disrupting the rural tranquility the area provided, it's eyes firmly fixated on Kevin's Stantler, a large target that would no doubt serve as a real trophy of sorts to showcase to its former flock and gain re-entry into into the clan of avians. The grayish-brown avian swooped from the trees above towards its new target!

Oracle had suddenly picked up on something approaching from above and spotted the Staravia diving towards Stantler at a high speed. Whatever the bird Pokemon had planned for the deer was not good however by allowing the bird to stay focused on the newest member of Kevin's team would give her time to take aim at the approaching bird and deliver a blow before it could score a hit." Something is diving at us from above, if it stays at this angle I should be able to stop it before it can cause any of us harm. For some reason it really seems to like our new friend as a target."

With the distance between the avian Pokemon and Stantler closing Kevin knew that trying to get Stantler to move out of the way would mess up Oracle's aim so he was quite clear as he warned the deer not to move. " Stantler stay very still, you have something trying to ambush you from above but Oracle will be able to protect you if you stay still. Just act casual as if you don't notice it approaching and she will handle the rest once it gets close enough to hit." The young Pokemon froze in place not being used to anything trying to strike it from above. Being such a large Pokemon few others in the area would dare to pick a fight with it but it trusted Kevin enough not to move.

By now the Staravia was getting very close to striking and Oracle had tuned her aim and waited for Kevin to give the order to strike the unsuspecting avian. The strange patterns on the bird left Oracle a bit uneasy with fighting it at close range but made it very easy to track from a distance as she started to build an Aura Sphere between her paws. As the sphere reached the maximum size Kevin finally gave the order to attack. " Oracle it looks like you are ready, go ahead and fire off that Aura Sphere of yours. At this range you should be able to strike just before that Staravia can reach our new friend."

The Lucario wasted no time at all as she bent backwards for a second before firing the large blue sphere towards the diving bird. The sphere traveled so quickly that against the deep blue sky it was hard to track as it made it's way up towards the aggressive bird.



OOC: Staravia should be level 28 as Barb is holding a Cleanse Tag. Oracle uses Aura Sphere while holding a Black Belt.

As Oracle blasted the poor Staravia out of the sky in a single hit Stantler was quite amazed by the power of the blast. It was also quite impressed by her accuracy and speed as few Pokemon could hit a diving avian with such ease despite being a small, fast moving target. With Stantler no longer in any danger Kevin and his team could keep up their search for the Pokemon they were truly after as well as anything Stantler could easily handle to get a bit stronger. They were all glad the weather was still nice as it made it a bit easier to search for their target unlike a blizzard or a sandstorm.

" Great job Oracle, I am glad Stantler did not get hurt there, if only Staravia could not learn Whirlwind I would have tried me luck using it in that battle but maybe the next encounter will be a bit easier. Once we can find those Sweet Hearts and teach Stantler that special move it should be easier to train and evolve it but until then you might need to help out more Oracle." Just as he finished speaking Samantha popped out of her Pokeball and quickly noticed the nice weather which she very much enjoyed. The warm, humid air was as close to a volcano or desert she was going to see any time soon.

" Ah, finally some nice weather, no water in sight, no sandstorm or blizzard, not even thunder in the distance. I could get used to this. This weather needs to be the norm all the time and I would not mind at all." She then stretched out while lighting one of her sticks ablaze to have it ready in case anything needed to be burned. She had not battled in a while and would not mind getting in a scrap either to grow stronger as she was so close to reaching her final evolution. With four of his Pokemon looking to participate in a battle he knew this was not going to be easy picking between them with each battle.

" Well this will be fun sorting out, hopefully we find each of you something to battle soon. Barb is the only one who will not stand a chance against anything in these parts but if Clamps joins the rest of you wanting to battle we might be here a very long time." He then heard a noise approaching and stood ready for whatever popped out next.

As Kevin first saw the Growlithe he was originally disappointed as he had seen many of those in his lifetime. Just as he was about to order one of his Pokemon to attack however it was quickly chased off by a Pokemon that sounded just like it had been described. The horrible motor sound echoed throughout the area until it had stopped in front of Kevin floating right in front of him. He had no doubt this was the Pokemon he had been hunting and he could hardly wait to see what it was capable of doing in a battle.

He had never seen the strange looking Pokemon before but based off of it's appearance he guessed it must be at least part steel type. Beyond that the only other thing he could guess with reasonable certainty was that the creature probably liked to hang around cars and other motorized objects as it looked just like a motor and sounded just like one making hiding amoung them a very easy thing to do. It did not look super durable so Kevin wanted to avoid super effective attacks or moves with a type bonus so he decided to have Samantha try her luck against it.

" Samantha my dear, it looks like we found the perfect sparing partner for you to test your psychic powers on. Thankfully until you evolve it will not be as strong as it could be so it should be just weak enough not to knock the poor creature out. That is the last thing we want after searching so hard." Samantha then leaped forward and stood in front of the Varoom ready for battle. As much as she eanted to use her fire type moves for such an encounter she knew that would be too much for her foe to handle so instead she started to chant in a mysterious language as a purple veil started to surround her.

" Great job so far Samantha, unleash that Psychic attack once you are ready. I have my Ultra Ball ready to go." He then waited as the purple veil surrounding Samantha also started to surround the Varoom across from her. He just had to wait a few seconds for Samantha to finish her attack and then the stage would be set for him to try and capture the strange Pokemon. Kevin just had to make sure he timed his attempt just right so the Varoom would not escape.

As soon as the Ultra Ball clicked shut Kevin was so relieved. He knew such a strange Pokemon would be bound to have many neat things about it and that it would also expand his knowledge of Paldean Pokemon. It certainly was a noisy little creature that could make a distraction. If it got bigger he could use it as a getaway vehicle if things went bad at some point or another so he planned on raising it as soon as he got the first opportunity to do so. First however he needed to keep training his team for the next gym.

" Wonderful, such a strange Pokemon living in these parts is something I had not envisioned. It does seem like Varoom are a more modern species so I doubt it will know anything about the history of the towers but I suppose asking it once we get to train it cannot hurt." While he was quite pleased to have captured the swarming Pokemon he still wanted to learn as much as he could about the history of the area as he continued to train. Of course he would not turn down any other special Pokemon he encountered while trying to get his team ready for Morty.

As he continued to look around the clearing for anything else of note he could see a strange set of footprints leading towards the edge of town so he decided to follow them to see if they would lead to anything important. He was very unfamiliar with the area but based off of how easily the wild Pokemon in the area came up to him he felt as though the wild Pokemon in these parts were quite used to seeing people out and about. He just hoped that lack of fear would not lead to any Pokemon trying to jump him as he continued to follow the footprints.

After following them for a while the footprints seemed to disappear in the middle of another clearing. This one had a few rocks in the center but nothing that looked like it was man made and no writing on the stones to give him any clues. Upon closer inspection however he noticed on one of the rocks a tiny arrow pointing to the right was etched into it and he decided to follow the direction of the pointed arrow to see what it might lead to.

As the Growlithe seemed to be begging for a belly rub Samantha got jealous of the fire type hound. Growlithe tended to get far more respect from most humans compared to her species and she was not about to let this one get any special attention without showing the mutt who was boss. She stapped forward and grabbed one of her sticks before lighting it ablaze to gain the attention of the Growlithe so that she could plan her next move while it was distracted. Once the stick was on fire from end to end she threw it towards the Growlithe.

" Let's see how long that keeps that mutt distracted. They might be common pets but when it comes to brains they are leagues beneath my species. I can easily handle this hound. Youall can keep looking for whatever you wish I will keep this pest under control." As she watched the Growlithe seeing if it would chase her stick and while doing so she started to build up her psychic energy waiting to strike the dumb canine as soon as it let it's guard down or whenever she felt it would not be able to escape her gaze. She did not care in either case so long as she got to make the Growlithe look like a fool.

After waiting around for a few more minutes she grew bored of looking at the Growlithe and finally decided it was time to strike before it got any ideas. If this mutt was not going to leave any time soon she might as well use it for target practice and as her psychic energy reached it's peak it was time to show it just how powerful she had become. Kevin did not say a word as he figured letting the two fight it out was the best option as an angry Braixen was not easy to calm down without putting himself in the line of fire.

As he watched Smanatha she started to glow in a bright purple light as she chanted in a strange language. After a few seconds the same light started to surround Growlithe and Kevin decided to try and capture it if Samantha did not knock the poor creature out. He grabbed an Ultra Ball and got ready to toss it once Samantha was finished with her attack hoping the burst of psychic energy would not prove too much for the young fire type.
