As the trees swayed in the wind, a young woman with amber colored eyes emerged from New Bark Town… again. No, this time was for real! This time, she would actually start her journey in Johto. This time, she would get through the route and reach the next town… Where was it?
…
Whatever, she would figure it out, she was sure! These routes couldn’t be any more complicated than Unova anyway, right? The teen teen turned to look at her team that she had with her:
A Squirtle, the same that she fought Silver with… she was still keeping her distance from Opal, but the Trainer decided she liked her anyway. She decided to name her Brooke. She wasn’t sure why, she just felt like it fit. Unfortunately, this was the only member of her team that she felt was normal.
Next was… uh, this uh… odd mouse duo that just… silently followed her. They were the sole reason she ended up returning to New Bark Town, questioning her life choices. She could still see their eyes in her sleep. But… well, she kinda started to get a little used to them. She still didn’t like them much and it was hard to tell if they liked her either. She decided to call them M & M because… they were both mice? She didn’t know, they creeped her out.
The third member of her “team”, if it could even be called that, was a Scatterbug. That… that was it. That was it, and yet he creeped her out worse than M & M did. She had no clue what that bug was thinking of… anything, really. He was worse than the two mice in many ways, but she didn’t exactly have… any options, really. After all, she not only had to catch all the Pokemon in Johto, but she needed to find all of the Vivillon patterns.
Whatever a Vivillon was.
Yeah, this was… certainly… a team. She had a lot of work ahead of her to make this bunch of Poke-Whimps champion rank Pokemon. Or, at the very least, capable of taking on the first gym? Maybe? It would’ve been worth a try. One Pokemon was an actual decent battler but didn’t like her, and the other two liked her… maybe, and they… could barely walk a straight line.
…Yeah, it was probably best to focus on filling the Pokedex now. The teen looked around in hopes of finding a Pokemon to catch. What would she encounter first? ---
Notes: Welcome to Opal's Catchathon! In threads titled Catchathon, her main goal is not plot related, but instead solely focused on catching as many different types of Pokémon as possible to fill the Pokedex! Naturally, I understand that there is the possibility of running into a Trainer who wants to battle as well. This is just a fun way to start completing the Pokedex Quest!

The light wind only made this cold day even more chilly, biting ears and noses and made you move briskly to keep your body warm. A lot of pokemon were out actually, foraging for food, finding dry betting for the nests and in general just staying active. Several rattatas were seen scurrying about, digging up roots and gnawing in them. A flock of sentrets were also easily spotted in a hill they passed, but they were on high alert and the watcher sounded the alarm as soon as it noticed Opal and her team, so they disappeared out of sight. Several pidgeys flew about but they were also quick to flee whenever they thought Opal got too close, while the flock of spearows looked challenging at her and her pokemon, but with only three pokemon where the majority were not battle ready, it wouldn't be very smart to take on the whole flock of 10 or more. In general Route 29 was a nice calm place, it could be a little rough on the edges but in general it was a nice place to live, or travel through. Not much really dangerous happened around here and most days the biggest excitement would be a passing trainer, or perhaps a disagreement over territories. A spinda groaned as it pulled at its ears in the lack of hair, it was to get crazy about! Nothing ever happened in this dull hole of a route! It spotted a rather strong looking rattata who was merrily carrying a juicy berry towards home, and it hopefully stepped forward to challenge the rat, all in the view of Opal. A few minutes later the rat scurried off, leaving the berry in the snow, and the spinda slumped disappointed, and almost left without taking the chesto berry as it really had no interest in it, but it ended picking it up to store it for later. As it turned it came face to face with Opal and her pokemon and it stopped right in its track. One could see the gears turn in its head, a trainer almost meant a battle and if it was lucky a challenging one even, but then afterwards it would be back at square one. A trainer could also mean something different, something much more promising: if it managed to impress her, she might be willing to bring it along and that would mean it could leave this awful place! Of course it could do that on its own as well, but it was the wrong time of the year to start a long trek and honestly the spinda had no idea of where to go, but with a trainer it could see a lot of new places without having to worry about food or a place to sleep, and it probably would get some interesting battles along the way as well. It grinned confidently and staggered forward in the way the species was known for, it pointed at Opal and then itself, before it slammed its hand into the other palm. "Spinda!" It challenged loudly, now she better be worth it. Spinda [Lv 4] is looking for a way out of this dull neighborhood! It didn’t take long for the chill in the air to set in. The young woman rubbed her hands over her upper arms as she and her Pokemon all started following her… some in faster paces than others, though even Brooke was moving faster than she would’ve liked since it was too chilly even for the Water-Type. After a while, the Squirtle started hopping on her feet to try her best to better catch up with the pace of everyone else and avoid getting too cold.
Of the three (four if the two Tandemaus counted individually… which they didn’t), the Tandemaus were the fastest, and could’ve outrun their Trainer if they wanted to. Their blank expressions made it impossible to know why they didn’t, but perhaps they were just trying to make sure they didn’t get lost. If anything, all it accomplished was make Opal run faster because she thought they were chasing her. Man, she really… strongly disliked those mice…
Meanwhile, Bug… He was just… just doing his best, she guessed.
For a moment, it seemed like she had some luck with certain Pokemon. For a second, she thought she spotted a group of something purple dashing about, but they vanished before she could get a decent look. Something she did recognize was a group of those bushy tailed Pokemon that Silver was picking on when she met him, wouldn’t that be a nice addition to her team? Unfortunately, by the time she even noticed them, one of them sounded the alarm for its brethren to take cover. “Hey!” she shouted, but it was too late. The group was gone.
In fact, the only thing her shouting seemed to accomplish was scaring away a flock of birds, another potential catch down the drain. The teen huffed out a sigh when she felt a chill go down her spine. At first, it didn’t do anything more than confuse her. Maybe it was just the cold. Then she glanced down at Bug, who stared at… something wide eyed. Opal squinted her eyes at the direction that the Scatterbug was looking, but ultimately didn’t end up seeing the Spearow that was glaring right at her and her Pokemon because something else got her attention.
The danger of the Spearow never even caught her attention, but Bug made sure to keep real close to his Trainer’s heel.
But what was this standing before her? Why, it was a little goofy looking bear! Clumsy too, but in all the right ways! There was just something about it that brought a smile to Opal’s face. Maybe it was the way it was struggling to keep balanced, each step taken like a wayward drunkard. Maybe it was the eager grin on its face as it tried its hardest to look even remotely threatening. Whichever the case, Opal knew precisely what this Pokemon wanted…
“You wanna battle, little guy?” she asked as she looked over to her Pokemon. “Alright, we’ll-!” She barely heard the sound of a Pokeball absorbing Bug as, unable to handle the pressure of the Spearow staring down at him, returned himself into his Pokeball. She could’ve used Brooke for this battle, but… it seemed as though the Squirtle still wasn’t too keen on trusting her. Then there was… M & M…
The duo mouse Pokemon stared up at her… blankly honestly, but still fairly hopeful she assumed. The two simultaneously raised their arms in the air, letting out a quiet hissing sound, clearly eager to battle. With… literally no other option if she wanted to keep herself from possibly getting hit by a Water Gun, Opal let out a sigh. “Alright,” she relented. “You can give it a shot.”
Hopping up and down, the Tandemaus duo waddled into position, balling both pairs of fists and readying a battle stance. This was their first battle, and they weren’t gonna let Opal down… though they seemed a lot more confident in that than Opal was. Now she needed to command an attack, right? Uh, what did they know again? She really should’ve paid better attention, but she honestly had no intention of ever using these things. “Uh… Pound? Yes, Pound! Use Pound… I guess?”
The two mice both hissed simultaneously as they waddled toward the Spinda, ready to smack it across the face simultaneously. ---

Spinda’s eyes brimmed with hope. This trainer was going to battle it and show the wild bear just how strong she was. Did that mean that Spinda could prove itself? Some trainers took wild Pokémon with them that proved they were really tough in a battle. “Spinda spin!” Spinda insisted, teetering back and for the clumsily, its small paws clinging onto its little berry. “Da!” It ran as fast as it could. It tucked the berry in its fur for safe keeping and slammed into one of the mice. Spinda managed to cause one of the M & M partners to go skittering through the tall grasses to its left. It then spun around and did the same to the other mouse, knocking the other M off to its right. Look at that! Clearly, Spinda was a strong and worthy Pokémon, right? One that any trainer might want? M & M would easily regain themselves and jump on top of Spinda, pounding into the small bear with their arms. Oh, they were pretty strong! Especially for such young Pokémon, they had quite the vigor and force behind their punches. “Spinda spin spin da spin!”] Spinda cheered them on and applauded cheerfully, toddling about awkwardly on its two feet. It could only imagine how strong the two mice would be later on in life! Wild Encounter Weather: Frost [Clear] [attr="class","qkt-bkgd"] [attr="class","qkt-wild-pkmn"] Spinda LV 4 HP 100% [5/20]

Before the two mice could make their assault, the Spinda managed to make contact with the first mouse quite masterfully! The speed and masterfulness it did so surprised both the mice and Opal herself. The mouse with the pants fell over, causing the other one to flinch and cover its eyes before looking over at its partner in concern. It let out a quiet hissing sound as it reached out for its partner before being knocked in the opposite direction by the Spinda.
Once they got onto their two feet, M & M, both standing on either side of the Spinda, both glaring intensely at the panda before finally making contact with their pound attacks. To Opal’s surprise, they actually managed to make their attack hit. To make things even more interesting, the Spinda seemed to be cheering them on. This was the Tandemaus’s first time battling, so they didn’t really think much of it, but even Squirtle had unfolded her arms at the sight, blinking as she tried to make sense of the bear’s actions.
Opal’s shocked face turned into a smile as she let out a bit of a laugh at the sight. This Spinda seemed like it wanted a real challenge… or maybe it was just an encourager. Whatever the case, she quite liked this Pokemon’s spunk. It has just the sort of pep she needed in her team! A real team player! Opal’s grin turned into a determined smirk.
There was no doubt about it: she wanted that Spinda in her team.
M & M were ready for their next attack, leaving it up to Opal to figure out what to do next. “Alright, use Tail Whip!” She called out, causing both mouse to… stare ahead and… do nothing. One second passed… then two… then five… and then Opal had to speak up. “Uh… something wrong?” As she was speaking, the two mice, turning in a direction toward each other, both slowly moved to face their Trainer before tilting their heads. Oh… they didn’t know how to do that.
Was that not a move Tandemaus could use? Well, she knew they could use Pound, so maybe it was better that she stick with that. She could figure out what M & M could do later. “Oh, um… use Pound again, I guess.” ---

The wild Spinda knew that if they wanted the trainer to take them along with them that they would have to be just as strong. Steeling its features, the Spinda called out. "Spinda!" As if to say 'I am just as strong! Please take me with!'. Lowering its head the Spinda kicked at the ground, throwing up dirt and grass as it prepared its next attack. The Spinda shot off like a rocket, strait and true towards the Tandemaus, its earlier dizziness shoved into the back of its mind. The pokemon collided, small bodies smashing against one another. "Spinnn." The little Tandemaus was hit hard, how were they still in this battle? The wild Spinda shot a glance up to the trainer, hope in their eyes. Had they done good enough? Spin, spin, spin, with each hit from the Tandemaus the Spinda spun faster and faster around. It wondered if it would dig its own hole into the ground! Round and round the cream and red pokemon went, twisting and turning on its left foot. The Spinda was a lefty, so it had better balance on its left side. When the Spinda finally came to a stop its eyes were glazed and it teetered precariously. "Spppiiinnn?" The little pokemon squealed out, trying to gather its baring. Another one of those hits and it may just fall on its face! The Tandemaus really was a strong opponent for being so young! They clutched their berry closer, not willing to drop its lunch.
