Kitamina Willow "How!" Kit huffed out, exasperated. Once again the small group was LOST. Really Kit needed to go to some kind of map interpretation class. Trying to figure out where she was on the map had gotten them lost more often than not. They had just been in Cherrygrove City where Kit had stocked up on Pokeballs. Bagel had also found, maybe stolen a pair of brand spanking new sneakers. Kit only felt slightly bad at the fact that she had shoved them into her backpack instead of returning them to their owner. If the shoes had been that important their owner should never have left them where Bagel could have taken them. Kit found out later that the reason Bagel had stolen the shoes was because they smelt like cheese. Kit didn't want to wear the shoes, because who wanted cheese feet? But she also wasn't just going to throw them in the trash.
The group of three, Feara the Charmander, Bagel the Rattata and Kit herself now stood in a tall, grassy clearing. The blades of grass were so tall they brushed against Kits hips, if she was any shorter she wouldn't be able to see over the fronds. In the distance she could see a lush forest. The trees stretched up into the sky and they were not the normal ones Kit usually saw. These ones were more exotic. Kit could also hear the sound of water splashing against a shore. "Well, dang, where do we go now?"
Kit should really study up on how to read the stars too, then maybe she would stop getting them lost. But in the middle of the day, there were no stars or constellations to follow. Feara seemed more than content with where they were, the Charmander had hated the City just as much as Kit. Charmander seemed to be enjoying the fresh air and open space. Bagel on the other hand kept sticking their nose into the ground, probably trying to scent out any roots or wild snacks. Kit lifted her map back up, where they were now was supposed to be a normal forest, with deciduous trees and a route to the next town. After squinting her eyes Kit realized one important factor...She was reading the map upside down! Words:380

The Clutch Hatchery Outskirts remained an enigma of mystery. No one quite knew what would crawl out of the tall grasses that surrounded the building, desperately begging for someone to come mow them down to proper height. Many of the common variety of Pokemon could be seen, with pink-winged sparrows circling overhead and bright green caterpillars crawling through the grass. Though, occasionally, glimpses of something even more fantastical would sneak through the scene. Something swung from the tall branches of the trees overhead. It’s snorted, breathing loudly through its pig-like nostrils, then bellowed with an off-canter voice that could break eardrums. When the wild beast spotted Kit and her crew, it immediately hopped down off the tree and landed on the ground in front of them. It was young and inexperienced, evidenced by the soft fur that grew in odd clumps along its delicate flesh. But inside of the wild primate beat the heart of a warrior. If Kitamina tried to listen very hard, perhaps she could just barely hear its mother calling out to it from somewhere in the distance. Still, Mankey balled its furry paws into tight fists and banged relentlessly on its chest. “MANKEEEYY MAAAANNKKK!” The wild Pokemon shrieked at the top of its lungs, demanding a battle against the young girl and whatever Pokemon she thought she could best it with. Kitamina Willow Kit really needed to go to the doctor to see if she needed glasses, she couldn't believe that she had been reading the map upside down. THIS ENTIRE TIME! No wonder why she was getting lost left and right. "You stupid..." Kit mumbled, self-depreciating herself under her breath. She had known that going off on an adventure would be difficult, but she hadn't imagined just how difficult it would be. How do kids, literal children become successful trainers. Kit was feeling a bit dissapointed in herself. She really thought she would have been better at this.
"Rattttaaa" Bagel sensed his trainers feelings and paused in his munching. With his cheeks full of a good smelling root that he had found just under the first few inches of dirt he picked up the rest of the tube root. With big red eyes he offered it to his trainer. Kit smiled sadly but shook her head. She would not be eating something that her Rattata had half eaten already. But she knew what the gesture meant, for Bagel to offer her any of his food meant a lot.
A loud growling shout had Kit jerking in surprise. The trees closest to her shook while a ball of tanish white fur barrelled through the undergrowth. With the elegance of a pokemon who had spent much time leaping from tree branches the wild Mankey, who was the one behind all of the screeching, lept down from its high advantage. The wild pokemon pounded its chest in aggression, snorting and snarling as it did so. Bagel reacted instantly, the purple fur on its back bristling and a hiss left his throat. He would not act kindly to any pokemon who threatened his trainer.
"Wait!" Kit called back Bagel before he could attack the Mankey. Bagel skidded to a stop, his sides heaving and teeth gnashing. "We can't just beat up on a baby pokemon!" Kit had been taken off guard at the sudden appearance of the wild pokemon but now that she had had a moment to take in the small Mankey she saw that it was young. Way too young to be away from its mother. "Hey little guy, you want me to help you find your mother?" Kit asked the wild pokemon. But the Mankey was too enraged to listen. It would seem the Mankey didn't want to listen to reason. So Kit would teach it a lesson. "Bagel use Quick Attack!" Maybe by getting a little taste of battle it would listen to reasoning. Or else it would get knocked out and its mother would have to care for it.

Mankey snorted and shook its head firmly when Kitamina offered to help find its mother. It was a wild and free child! No mother’s arms could contain it from swinging from every tree it found and challenging every would-be intruder that crossed its path. As if to make that point clear, Mankey scooped up a bit of dirt and tossed it at Kitamina’s face. Bagel’s swift movements would catch Mankey off-guard. Was it his need to protect his trainer from being attacked by the sandy debris? Was it firm determination to show this little firecracker what for? Or was it just pure obedience that caused the energetic rodent’s lightning-fast reflexes? Regardless, Bagel would slam into Mankey’s chest, knocking the Pokemon completely off-balance and nearly taking it out in one hit. New plan! Mankey’s eyes widened in alarm. “Mankey Maannk. Maann keeey?” It pressed one finger against its chin cutely and batted its eyes. It begged and pleaded with Kitamina and Bagel. It would open its mouth and point inside, then close it and rub its belly with one hand. Maybe it was just a lost, confused, little hatchling? Without a way to feed itself or a care in the world? “Maaankeeey!” It begged for them to understand its starving nature. Kitamina Willow With a snort the Mankey scratched at the ground, sending up a puff of dirt and grass and sand strait at Kit’s face. She barely had time to close her eyes before she was pelted by the dirt, how was she this unlucky? Every encounter she had had with a wild Pokemon so far had left Kit dirty, sweaty and worse for wear. “Are you serious!” Kit screeched. “Didn’t your mother teach you any manners you over grown ball of fur!” Spitting out the dirt that clung to her tongue Kit watched in satisfaction as Bagel barreled forward. The two Pokemon clashed together, the Mankey tilted to the side, obviously injured from Bagel’s attack.
In a complete one eighty, the Mankey paused, then glanced up at Kit with big, red eyes. Were those tears? The little snot even had the audacity to bat those eyes at her! It rubbed its stomach and pointed to its mouth. But Kit wasn’t having it. She would not be fooled twice! The first time Kit had offered the Mankey help it had thrown dirt in her face. Now it wanted her to feed it. Ridiculous! Kit needed all the supplied in her pack, not only because they were lost…but because it wasn’t like Kit had and endless supply of money.
“You have two options,” Kit stated sternly. If the Mankey wanted to act like and adult, then she would treat it as such. “You can finish this battle.” Bagel hissed, he paced in the grass just a short distance from the Mankey, still hot to fight. “Or, you can choose to come with me. I will make sure you are well fed and you will get to battle as many times as you want with me at your side. But nothing is free in this world.” Reaching into her baggy hoodie pocket Kit wrapped her fingers around one of the balls she had placed in there for quick access. Kneeling, Kit reached out her arm and waited for the Mankeys choice.

The small pig-monkey stood vey still. Was this human offering to carry it off on grand adventures just like the stories it heard about when it was still in the nest with its dozen of other siblings? There were so many siblings that Mankey had, its mother hardly ever noticed when one left or returned to the nest. Would she ever truly know that it was gone for good, if it accepted the human’s offer? A pair of eyes watched from the distance. If Kitamina stared hard enough, she would notice the larger, more grizzled form on a Primate high in a tree several yards away. It was quiet, though immeasurably powerful. It seemed that it approved of this. When Mankey hesitated with a shaky hand pausing as it quietly reached out to the ball, its mother called out one final time. “Go, my child! And become stronger than all of your siblings. Make all of Mankey and Primate kind proud!”With that final farewell, Mankey tapped the button on Kitamina’s ball and allowed itself to be pulled inside. Finally, a trainer of its very own! And Kitamina was a strong trainer. The way her rodent easily tackled it and nearly took it out was proof enough of this. Mankey was sure that underneath her trainer, it would become the strongest Pokemon there ever was. “I’ll work hard every day to prove to you that I’ll be your best, most strongest Pokemon you’ve ever owned!” Mankey called out one final time. Success! Mankey was caught! Bagel gained +2 levels to [Lv 7]! Bagel learned Focus Energy! Kitamina Willow Kit waited with baited breath, the more that the Mankey hesitated the more that Kit wanted it on her team. With their strong will and want of battle Kit knew that they would have some great adventures. If she had to continue the battle between Bagel and the Mankey she knew she would win. She should feel happy for winning, but she knew she would be dissapointed. She couldn't exactly ask a pokemon to join her if they were passed out. A deep, gutteral growl echoed from the tree line startling Kit. With squinted eyes Kit looked into the tree line. In the distance a large, older Mankey was calling out. At first she thought it was the young Mankeys mother urging it to come back to her side. But the sounds that the maternal Mankey was making didn't sound desperate.
With no more hesitation the little Mankey reached out and touched the pokeball in Kits hand. There was a glow and then the pokeball felt heavier in her hand. "Yes!" Kit exclaimed with happiness. "I promise to take care of your child!" Kit yelled out to the mother Mankey. "I'll bring them back one day too! So you can see them again!"
With her hands shaking Kit stood. She now had another team member! Surely they were on their swift way to greatness! Now that Kit had an injection of confidence she contemplated her next move. Looking down at her Charmander and Rattata she decided that they would need a water type or grass type to start rounding out the team. They would have to face strong gym leaders and type advantages were a tactic to consider. "Ok, either of you hear a rive or lake?" She asked her companions. Feara jumped up and down, its fiery tail swinging back and forth. She pointed to the left, where there was more long grass and trees but perhaps a body of liquid too. "Alright, lets keep going!!"

The trail leading towards the lush and beautiful lakeside would carry them through tall grasses whose vibrant green stalks were tanned golden brown from the changing seasons. Leaves of various shapes and sizes scattered across the ground, coating the land in brilliant red, yellow, and orange hues. Small green bugs darted through them, their bright red horns barely protruding above the foliage in brief instances. They ducked out of the way as soon as they saw or heard the young woman’s approach. The trees were large overhead, with gigantic branches. They stretched like massive arms, twisting in uncanny directions. Some were massive enough to support a fully grown Ursaring. Upon their almost blackened, greyish-brown knotty complexion, was a host of bright green foliage and bundles of climbing moss. Sometimes, small territorial birds would dart through these branches in high pursuit after one another. For the time being, they completely ignored Kitamina. Something moved through the dense grass as she approached the lakeside. It would cause Kitamina to have to stop dead in her tracks. Where the ground’s soft soil stretched up around her feet with a sickening gurgle and tried to cause them to sink into its flesh, a small purple blob popped up. The small grimer smiled, stretched itself up as tall as it could muster, and shaped part of itself into a makeshift hand. It waved to Kitamina eagerly. “Grimer grime?” It asked her curiously. Kitamina Willow The fresh air and slight breeze felt refreshing, Kit breathed in the scent of freedom easily. This journey, this feeling of utter release was what Kit had wanted from the beginning. This right here was what she had been after. That was until her shoes sank, squish, squelch, squish. Deep green blades of grass were hiding a swampy terrain, one that wanted to hug Kit and never let her go. “Char!” Feara was having the same problem, though they were only a few pounds, their feet were still getting sucked in by the mud. “Rattt!” Muck clung to Bagel’s toes while mud was already making their purple fur a matted brown. “What the…” Kit had not thought this through she had not planned on getting caught up in a swamp. When she had thought up a lake side or river she had imagined crystal blue waters and sandy beached. She should have known better. “Just our luck.” Kit grumbled, trying her hardest to make her way without losing a shoe in the process.
Kit was so preoccupied with the swampy terrain that she didn’t see the wild Pokemon until the group was right up on it, or rather in it. Like a big glob of purple mud the Pokemon who stopped her in her tracks reminded Kit of the silly putty that she used to play with as a kid. “O you little trouble maker!” The wild Grimer was the reasoning behind the groups current predicament. It had made the ground into a mucky, muddy mess. With a big grin the Grimer waved at Kit and her two companions, liquid ichor dripping from its make shift appendage. “Really? This is your idea of a fun time? Do you know how long it will take me to get all this dirt, sand and who knows what else out!” Kit practically screeched at the wild Grimer. She was not happy, in fact she was beyond furious. “You know what!? I’m going to catch you, just so I can make you clean my shoes!” Kit did have the pair of shoes that Bagel had stolen back in the city but that was besides the point. “Bagel!” Kit said sternly. Bagel jumped to attention, hissing with a flash of front toothed fangs. “Use Quick Attack!” The little rodent had some trouble finding his footing in the soft terrain but managed to unstick itself. As Bagel raged forward, intent on the wild Grimer Kit grabbed one of her empty pokeballs. Her aim was much better now that she had had a bit of practice, with a arc to her toss, she aimed the pokeball right at the Grimer. She would keep her promise if it was the last straw. That Grimer would be cleaning her shoes spick and span!

The strange slime-like Pokémon welcomed new friends. As Bagel raced across the muck-ladened grounds, the strange Pokémon stood still with a wide smile plastered over its face. Bits of itself dribbled from its existential flesh and splashed upon the ground. “Grime!” It cried joyfully, opening its makeshift arms wide, ready to embrace their newfound friend. Bagel’s attack would hit it directly on. As soon as he made contact, Grimer would seal the small mouse’s fate. It wrapped around Bagel in an instance. Sickening sucking noises - Sllllurrrp! Sqqueelccch! – popped to life as Grimer pulled the other Pokémon inside of its strange body. Though Bagel might only last for a brief moment before being spat back out onto the earthen ground around them, he would leave poisoned from the experience. Something new caught Grimer’s eye as soon as it released Bagel from it’s poisonous trap. A shiny round thing painted red-and-white! Oh, how it wanted the shiny round thing! “Grimer grime grim!?” It asked, clapping its makeshift hands together. Large globs of its ‘flesh’ flung from its body and splashed against the grasses and trees around them. Was that shiny thing for it?! Yes, please! As Kitamina tossed the ball, Grimer leaped for it at the same time. Ding! It was possibly one of the most willing wild Pokémon to be caught. Kitamina Willow Kit The Grimer just stood there as Bagel raced forward, there was an almost blissful smile on its upturned lips. Dripping goop and glop, the wild Pokemon opened its arms, as if to hug the raging Rattata. Kits face twisted into a look of disgust. She highly doubted that she would be embracing the Grimer, even after she had caught it. Bagel made contact, instead of stopping the rat was glugged inside of the Grimer. “Bagel!” Kit yelled out in alarm, watching in horror as the wild pokemon’s body literally ate her Rattata alive. Running forward, Kit was ready to punt the wild Grimer till it released her companion. But Kit did not need to start being violent herself because Bagels nose was poking out of the Grimers back, then his ears and then shoulders and the rest of the Rattata’s figure followed. A sickly, liquid, purple substance clung to Bagels fur, matting it in places. “Taaaaa.” Bagel stuttered out, eyes wide as if he did not have any idea as to where he was.
The ball that Kit had thrown finally reached its mark, tinging against the wild Grimers head as it leaped toward the pokeball at the same instance. With a final glow the pokeball sealed itself, with the Grimer inside. Kit edged up to Bagel, he was finally coming to. She wanted to comfort the Rattata, but the last thing she wanted was for herself to end up sick because of the wild Grimers poison. “Alright buddy, we are going to take a break now.” Placing her fingers on a bare patch of fur Kit offered what consolation she could. “You did so good.”
Kit set up their camp a short distance away, far enough that the swamp had hardened into soft earth, but close enough so as to not make Bagel wait any longer than he had to. Their tent was small, just a simple thing that Kit had gotten for a steal at her old job. The outside was made of green, weather resistance tarp while inside there were windows that she could zip open. Feara had rolled over a good sized log that they could all fit on and sit by the little fire at the center of their camp. The Charmander was munching away on some of the rations that Kit had stowed away in her backpack. Kit had a grumbling Bagel wrapped up in a towel, drying his purple fur off. He was feeling much better now, having had a bath to remove all the sludge from his last battle. Kit let the Rattata down and he jumped up beside Feara, patiently waiting for his portion of the rations. Kit pulled out a package of dried fruits and started offering the sweet treats to the two Pokemon. Ichor was still in their pokeball and would be until Kit decided on what she wanted to do.

Kit's small fire would scare away most of the wild Pokemon that inhabited the area. Strange eyes looked inside of dark shadows, watching carefully from a safe distance. Fire brought with it destruction. It burned their only home down in the calories moments of the past that lived within their heads. A quiet shudder trickled down their spine as the wild Pokémon that watched ensured their distance was safe enough to merely observe Kit and her team. Only a single lonesome soul would brave the distance. The small green bug scooted it's way through the tangle of golden-brown grass now covered in snow. Lost in its own thoughts, Caterpie would scarcely notice the muck covered rodent Kit managed to clean up or the girl, let along the fire that warmed them at their campsite. "My mate is going to kill me when they find out!" Caterpie muttered low and underneath it's breath to itself. It bumped into a stray log, causing Caterpie to leap up into the air in alarm. What was that?! It scurried quickly backwards a few inches. "Oh, excuse me. I don't want any trouble. I have a busy day ahead of me!" Caterpie explained to the log. Then, when realization hit it and it realized what it was talking to, Caterpie blushed. "Oh...well, pfft. Never mind. It's not like a log understands me anyhow!" It chuckled with a shake of its head. Kitamina Willow Kit was enjoying her time with her companions, their bonds were strengthening every day. She was feeling good about her adventure thus far. There had been some speed bumps along the way. But nothing Kit could not handle. In fact, it seemed as though with each hiccup the team became stronger. Kit bent over to give Feara a good pat on the head when something moved in the corner of her eye. Her fear of bug-type pokemon was so deep-rooted that she felt her eyes widen and stomach heave at what she saw just beyond the log the team sat on. It was something about the way they moved, slow and creeping along the ground. Tiny, wriggling legs, shifty antennae and beady little eyes sent a shiver up her spine.
With a blood curdling scream, Kit scrambled backwards. She tripped over her own feet and fell to the ground, hitting her behind hard. Feara jumped up, dropping the dried fruit from her hands while Bagel stopped chewing and looking at his trainer with shocked eyes. "Ggggeeetttt iiittt!" Kit stuttered, her heart felt as though it would burst from her chest. "Croissant use bug spray! Lizard get the swatter!" Kit commanded, not realizing that she was actually speaking gibberish. "BURN IT! BURN IT WITH FIRE!" Grabbing the pokeball from her pocket, Kit threw out Ichor, the purple Grimer. Maybe they would be of help! "Griiii!!!" The Grimer said excitedly, happily clapping its hands. "Help!" Kit pleaded with her newest companion. Sludge splashed against the ground as Ichor danced, thinking that they were all in the middle of a party. There was complete and utter chaos and Kit was on the verge of passing out!
Why weren't her companions helping her? Why was everyone just standing there, (or dancing) instead of killing the bug that had snuck up on them? Fear overtook the rational part of Kit's brain. Usually Kit was better at controlling her irrational fear. But she was out in the wilderness, she didn't know where she was or where she could find any safety. Shifting to crawl on her hands and knees, Kit got to her backpack. Inside was a mess of items, mainly for survival. There was also a few cans of bug spray that she had bought from the last city. Her hands shook as she searched for the bright red bottle. "Come on, come on, where are you." Tears filled Kit's eyes as she ransacked her bag looking for the bottle. She yelled out in relief when she finally found a bottle. Hugging it to her chest she turned back around to see where the bug-type pokemon was. Now that she had a protective shield, Kit felt a little better. Her throat was no longer tight and her heart had calmed some.
The small Caterpie was still near the log, its ruby red antennae twitching and emerald green body wriggling. Kit shuddered, she wanted to throw up. "Ok, Kit, you can do this, just remember breathhhhh." Calming herself, Kit stood. The easy way out of this horrid situation was to battle the wild Caterpie, then maybe it would tell all its buggy friends and they would all leave her a lone. "Bagel, use quick attack on that.....bug." Bagel, at having been called the right name this time stopped eating the dried fruit that had fallen to the ground and turned towards the wild Caterpie. "Rattttaataaa!" With a hiss, the Rattata lunged forward.

What was that? The small bug spun on top of its nimble feet towards the sound of someone screaming. It was only used to that sound when a larger and scarier Pokemon predated on the weaker and smaller ones that lived in the wooded and grassy landscapes. Or, when it’s mate was giving it an earful… but they didn’t follow Caterpie way out here, did they? “Honey, listen. I was heading home right now, I swe- Oh. Just a human girl flipping out. Phew!” It sighed in relief. She commanded her Pokemon to use some… rather interesting moves. Caterpie crawled up on top of the log to get a better look. Who was Croissant? Who was Lizard? “Lizard is a pretty on-the-nose name, don’t ya think?” Caterpie asked the flame-tailed Pokemon with a tilt of its head. “But why do you have the name Croissant?” Caterpie turned to the purple rodent and asked Bagel curiously. Were humans just giving out random words as names now? Was that the ‘trendy’ thing to do? And yet…another Pokemon appeared. “Oh…wow. There’s a lot of you. And I thought I had it bad with the 67 hatchlings we had in our nest last year.” Caterpie chuckled. When Bagel rammed the small bug, knocking it off the log, it screamed. “What was that for?!” The power of Bagel’s force sent it rolling across the ground several feet away. Rocks and twigs scraped at Caterpie’s frail form, causing deep gashes on its soft exoskeleton. Caterpie immediately hopped up and shook itself off, before rushing towards Bagel and slapping him with its tail. “That’s a spanking for being a bad boy!” It huffed. Kitamina Willow Bagel was aggravated at this wild Caterpie. One of his favorite past times was eating and this pokemon had chosen his snack time to stumble into their camp. He ignored the bugs first question, he understood the panic that his trainer had been feeling. Kit had never hidden her feelings for bug type pokemon, or rather her hatred of them. Looking at this Caterpie up close he could see why. The bug did not have his silky smooth fur or razor sharp fangs. In fact it looked quite juicy, as if it would cook quite well over the camp fire. Bagel huffed out a satisfied grunt as he connected with the Caterpie and managed to knock it off the log. The bug had not been invited to their camp. In fact it was invading their make-shift home. “That was for interrupting my foo…” Bagel’s words got cut off by a sudden impact against his cheek. “Did you just slap me with your butt?” He asked, flabbergasted. This was another reason why he did not feel bad for the wild Caterpie. Who attacked with their literal gluteus maximus? “I’m the bad boy!?” Bagel hissed through his two long front teeth. “You’re the one who interrupted my meal and no one gets between my food and me!” The fur along the rat’s back puffed up, he was not only trying to make himself look more intimidating but also show how aggravated he was with this Caterpie. “And, look around, you have a whole forest but you stumble into this camp, into our territory? If anyone is asking for a spanking it’s you!” Bagel stood utop the stump, looking down at the Caterpie with disgust. Bagel hoped that Kit would not capture the bug, that she would let him knock the dang pokemon out.
Kit wanted to throw up. The small worm had attacked with it’s hind end. Now she would have to bath Bagel again before they broke camp. Who knew what kind of germs or diseases the wild Caterpie had. And it had used it’s butt, the part of it’s body that it did it’s business from. Kit contemplated commanding Bagel to attack the Caterpie again. But she didn’t know how much health it had left. She didn’t want Bagel to get any more ick on him. Though it’s squishy body did look a bit worse for wear. With a shutter Kit grabbed a pokeball from her sweater pocket. She couldn’t believe she was catching another bug type. The first had been on a request from a sick boy who had given her a Scatterbug. She had sworn that it would be her only one. But fate sometimes threw you for a loop. Kit closed her eyes and threw the pokeball, half hoping that she would miss.
