It is kinda nice having rich, geeky friends. Whenever a new game comes out, they are on top of it.
Super Mario Galaxy 2 is a new release and one of my closest pals Rudy got his copy of the game today. It is a game that I was looking forward to a lot and told him to call me whenever he would get his. I had the day off and after my daily routine, he called and we hung out at his place after I brought back his Wii from my house (we sometimes exchange Wii systems since he adds games and stuff to mine for me).
We spent most of the day there and switched controllers between player one and two so we could get a chunk of the action. We would've kept going until his batteries ended up dying on one of the remotes, so now here I am back home. D:
Hope to do it again tomorrow.

I'm seriously hyped for this and it wasn't until recently that I became so excited for this game. I loved the first Super Mario Galaxy and thought it was a real return to form for the moustachioed plumber and wasn't all that disappointed at a sequel. After all, SMG was pure brilliance.
However, I saw a leak a week or two back for Throwback Galaxy and have since heard some of the soundtrack and all I can say is... Wow. Us lot over the pond have another month or so to wait but i'll be getting my preorder in soon for sure.

Oh, you will not regret it! Though a lot of the game is pretty samey, that doesn't mean it still isn't brilliant. It might also to blame on my imagination, but the levels seem much more... full to them. One Galaxy feels like you are hiking and hiking forever through these cloud-tipped mountains.
We also have power ups both new and old. We see the return of Bee Mario, with the ever classic Fire Mario. But in addition, we also have Rock Mario (he transforms into a round bolder and rolls at high speeds) and Cloud Mario (you can make your own cloud platforms and your fall speed decreases so you can jump further).
But a main feature in the game... Yoshi! What do I need to say about that cute little dino?!

I have not gotten it yet and I am probably one of the few Mario fans that did not like the original. It did not seem as fun to me as the older games. Even my 12 year old brother did not like the first one.Still if I see videos of it and things are greatly improved I may check it out.

Aww, how could you NOT love the original? It was one of the best in the series in my opinion! Now, Super Mario Sunshine, I can understand. But Galaxy...

I loved Sunshine and 64 but Galaxy just did not seem to have as much of a fun factor to me. It may be because I am getting older or it may be because I just did not like the idea of Mario being in Space the entire game.

There were levels that weren't really space themed, like that Honey Hive Galaxy. Granted there weren't any wide open plains in the game, but I thought the whole gravity system was just genius.

I myself liked the gravity idea. One of my other problems is no multplayer which on the DS Super Mario 64 had even though it was limited it would have been nice to have one player play as Mario and another Luigi all you could do was shoot start bits if you were the second player which gets boring quickly. I have read about the new one and it sounds better which is why I may check it out although based on the first one I do not have as high expectations as I did with the first one.

...You do know most of the main series 3D Mario games have had next to no multi-player whatsoever. I can't really remember Super Mario 64 or Sunshine having any such feature. To be honest, it was nice to have that sort of addition to the game when I wasn't really all that expecting of it. SMG2's multi-player assistance seems further improved too. I have to say, Super Mario Galaxy was one of my favourite games this generation for a number of reasons. I think the most underlying one is the fact it was fun. Pure. Condensed. Fun. I also really enjoyed it for the return to form for Mario. While Sunshine isn't all that bad, having FLUDD ruined things a bit for me. The levels without FLUDD were something else though, I would seriously buy a guy just for those insanely challenging levels.

Galaxy 2 has some insane levels from what I've played. Rudy and I wasted 20 lives trying to get 100 purple coins on this slide as Luigi...
Oh! And unlike the last game, you don't have to get all the stars to play as Luigi! Sometimes when you enter a galaxy, Luigi will be standing right there and he will be willing to switch spots with Mario, so you'll get to play as him until you get the star.

I owned and bought the first one and hated it. i sold it for 30$. the gameplay is bad, the story is bad, terrible multiplayer, and a disgrace to the mario games.
