Joey whistled after he saw just how effective his Pokemon's attacks were. While they did a fair amount of damage they also both scored status ailments; both of which would severely undermine the opposing team's chances of winning. "Nice going guys! I am going to pamper you like kings after this battle. The synergy between your attacks was beautiful." Joey looked over to the monk who seemed to be deep in concentration; an almost zen like state. "No amount of spirituality or praying is gonna save your ass punk..." He turned to his Pokemon and issued his next moves. "Koffing, wham into the Hoothoot with a Tackle at full force!" He looked at Cyndaquil quickly. "Repeat up another Ember attack on the Bellsprout. Let's keep up this momentum people!"

The two Pokemon nodded in appreciation at Joey's compliment. Koffing, at Joey's command, rammed into the Hoothoot, causing a decent amount of damage. Cyndaquil then unleased another Ember attack at the Bellsprout, creating a huge amount of damage. Elder Li growled in frustration. "Bellsprout! Use Vine Whip on the Cyndaquil! Hoothoot! Use Peck on the Koffing!" he commanded. Hoothoot flew up in the air and charged at the Koffing, using a Peck attack. It did little damage, however. Bellsprout then used its Vine Whip on Cyndaquil but it wasn't very effective. Then they both cried out in pain at the status ailments they both carried. The battle was surprisingly beginning to turn towards Joey's favour. He grinned enthusiastically as all signs of nervousness slowly melted away. There were many strong opponent's in the world but Joey was beginning to understand the concepts of courage and strength. No one will ever intimidate him with their mere reputation or fighting skills. From here on Joey is going to be fighting at the best of his and his Pokemon's abilities. He refocused back onto the battle and ordered his next selection of moves, paying considerable attention not to let up on his relentless assault.
"Koffing, another full force Tackle on Hoothoot if you will. Cyndaquil, keep that Ember scorching hot! Burn that Bellsprout to cinders!" Both of his Pokemon responded eagerly; both trying their hardest to win their master's approval. Koffing gravitated around in the air for a moment as if to gather as much momentum as possible before ramming his rocky body into the Hoothoot while Cyndaquil unleashed a burning Ember that was aimed toward's the Bellsprout. Joey looked to the monk and laughed at his feeble attempts thus far. "So, you seem to have it in for this Cyndaquil. Not so funny now the tables have turned, huh?"

The Elder cringed as both of his Pokemon were weakening by the second. On it's own, the Cyndaquil was usually down and out the door by now, but since he had a trainer as back up this time, the Elder was finding it slightly more challenging.
Once both of his Pokemon were hit, he quickly retaliated, "Both of you! Gang up on that Cyndaquil! Use vine whip and peck attack!" The Bellsprout and Hoothoot soon moved in closer to the Cyndaquil, striking it several times.

Joey let out a hearty laugh and shook his head. "You REALLY have it in for the Cyndaquil to be ganging up on it like that. Well, I don't like your tactics. I'm gonna be launching a full on assault against your precious Bellsprout now." Joey looked at the Cyndaquil and gave him a nod and a thumbs up. "Koffing's gonna back you up for that decisive blow now. Be ready to strike on my command..." He focused to Koffing and gave him his orders. "Koffing, change of plan, we're going to ram as hard as possible into that Bellsprout. If this Elder monk wants to gang up on one Pokemon so viciously then so be it. We'll return the favour. KOFFING! Tackle, now!" Koffing span around in the air before wailing fiercely into the Bellsprout's direction. Just before Koffing reached his target Joey signalled to Cyndaquil with a click of his fingers. "Okay Cynd, let's do Ember!" Cyndaquil reared back and spat out a burning Ember from it's mouth at the monk's Bellsprout.

As both the Koffing and Cyndaquil launched a double attack on the Bellsprout, it became slightly confused as where to look. The burning sensation from his burn status also wasn't helping, infact it just distracted him completely. Before he knew it, he got a blast of fire to the head, causing him to flop backwards, crashing to the ground.
Whilst the Elder looked shocked that his Bellsprout had fainted, Cyndaquil seemed extatic. It was finally about to defeat it's rival. BANG! The Cyndaquil was soon sent rolling across the floor by Hoothoots peck attack. The fight still wasn't over!

Joey growled to himself and shook his head. "Bit of a cheap tactic attacking Cyndaquil while he was blind sided with his much deserved victory. No matter, Cyndaquil can dish out the finishing blow to your Hoothoot as well!" Cyndaquil shook his tiny little head and looked to Joey as he reprimanded the Monk for using such a cheap tactic on Cyndaquil. Cyndaquil's flames on it's back seemed to blaze anew from his trainer's confidence. Joey dramatically pointed his fist in the Hoothoot's direction with a mean leer in his eye. "Okay guys, from the top, down, let's do this. Koffing, a Tackle if you will and Cyndaquil, prepare some a fiery Ember for this schmuck."

Before the Elder could even order a move, both Koffing and Cyndaquil were making their move onto the feathered Hoothoot. The Koffing zoomed off ahead, crashing into the Hoothoot with a tackle and just as it recovered, it was hit by a powerful blast of fire, causing it to be knocked out!
The battle was over!

The Cyndaquil and Koffing began to celebrate their victory together, as a team. The Cyndaquil had been visiting the Sprout tower numerous times, trying to beat its rival and thanks to the help of Joe, it was finally able to do that. It bounced happily back to Joe, with Koffing in tow, sitting by his ankles and chirping up at him happily.
The Elder made a loud sigh, returning his two fainted Pokemon before placing them back onto his belt. He looked at the young trainer in front of him, carefully stepping forward. As he approached Joe, a very faint smile appeared on his face, "You are indeed a powerful trainer and worked very well with young Cyndaquil... Maybe now that he has joined you, he will stop being such a nuisance to us." He spoke slowly, folding his arms into the sleeves of his yukata and fidgeting around before continuing, "...He seemed to have a hatred for my Bellsprout... Ahem! Please, take this as a reward for climbing the tower and defeating myself and my fellow Monks."
Elder Li handed Joe a TM.
Joe obtained TM 70 - Flash
Elder Li began to turn slowly, his sandels gently scraping against the wooden floor, "Please... Feel free to use the Escape Rope by the window to head back to Violet City. I'm sure you will do well against Faulkner." With a slight bow, the Elder shuffled back to where he once stood.

Joey let out a jubilant victory cry as Elder Li's Hoothoot finally bit the dust. His Pokemon turned to him after celebrating between themselves and looked at their trainer respectively. He grinned and knelt down to pat his Pokemon. Koffing received his praise and floated around Joe's shoulders, whizzing around whimsically; feeling elated he had defeated such a tough opponent. Cyndaquil on the other hand seemed to be an almost new Pokemon as if a great weight had been lifted from his shoulders. This intense rivalry between Cyndaquil and Bellsprout seems to be an incredibly deep rooted issue. Joey rubbed his chin some more and smiled with him. However, his Pokemon weren't finished just yet, they had some more surprises in store for the trainer. Koffing bubbled Cyndaquil's flames burnt brightly on his back; they both had a new move to learn. Joey reviewed his Pokemon's moves and decided on what to change. "Koffing, learn Assurance over Smokescreen. Cyndaquil, replace Tackle with Quick Attack."
He stood up and looked to the Elder monk as he approached him. The monk had handed him a Technical Machine which Joey accepted with slightly hesitation. "A nuisance huh...? I'm beginning to understand what is going on between our two Pokemon but... I don't particularly agree with your methods. Seriously, couldn't you have faced him yourself instead of ganging up upon him with your stooges?" Joey shrugged and looked to the escape rope. "To think I was hoping to learn something spiritually enlightening from coming here. Oh well, I managed to obtain a powerful Pokemon. That's nothing to frown about." He signalled a thumbs up to his Pokemon and returned them to his Pokeball before grabbing the escape rope. He looked at it and before realising how to operate it he was magically teleported outside the tower. He scratched his head, puzzled, before turning to look at the tower. The sun was shining brightly on it, with the beams reflecting off in many directions. This image almost seemed to represent Cyndaquil's victory over the tower. Joey let out a small laugh and looked in the other direction of Violet City. "Time for the gym I guess..." He placed his hands in his pockets and began to stroll towards his new destination.
OOC:
Long post so to summarise:
Cyndaquil to replace Tackle with Quick Attack Koffing to replace Smokescreen with Assurance.
