"Chii.....Torrrrchiiiiic!" The city was a wonder to behold for the young fledgling as he was now permitted to venture outside the stuffy bag 'mother' often kept him out of fear for a curious child's safety. At any rate, she had good reason to be worried for him, especially at this tender young age where his insurmountable courage dwarfed his common sense and he couldn't gage danger as well as the rest of his team might. "Chiii!" came the delighted chirrup as he dashed to and fro inspecting everything from the contents of the drains to that of an upturned trash can. Part of him couldn't wait to go through this 'battle' she often spoke of, as though it was a rite of passage for all the Pokemon on the team and it didn't feel right that he was the only one who hadn't gone through this trial by fire. He didn't want to be the 'baby' of the team forever--he wanted to be like Fiero and Saphira, even if he was a little jealous of his new sister Angelus possibly taking away that position away from him. The little avian stopped at the foot of a middle-aged man who was seated on a bench and had a folder out on his lap from which he seemed to be reading documents rather intently. Papers with scribbles on them did not interest the fire chick, but the bag of open crisps next to the man's side certainly did. "Chiii! Torchiiiic!" he let out a sharp peep and gently pecked at the man's shoes to hopefully get the fellow's attention; in that aspect, he was lucky, for the man stopped reading, took off his glasses and stared down at the bird almost quizzically, wondering what creature had the audacity to bother him in a reading session. Seeing Ignitus and the bird's hopeful gaze directed at the foodstuff however, the man cracked a bit of a wry grin and took out a single chip which he held out to the bird. Ignitus let out a happy thrill as he hopped about on his stumpy legs with the biggest expression of 'WANT!' on his face humanly possible. "Well, you're a little scamp, that's for sure. Go fetch, tiny." The man flicked the chip some distance away as the Torchic happily bounded over, only to come face to face with a creature which had the very same intention he did and had suddenly darted out from one of the benches to loom over him as he came close. "Chiiii?" The Torchic suddenly looked unsure of himself as he slowly backed away from the scruffy-looking animal which looked as though it hadn't eaten a couple of days and was looking at both the chip AND the Torchic as though Christmas had come early... "Saaaanndd-- SHREWWWW!!" Sandshrew [Lvl 9] appeared!

She watched Ignitus race ahead to explore the wonders of something he'd not had a chance to see, cooped up in her bag most of the time. He seemed much more adventurous now that the danger - in the form of her Ekans' first appearance - had blown over. In a (morbid) sort of way, he was almost like Fiero - just thank god he lacked the necessary limbs to emulate the feline completely.
The girl yawned hugely, not even caring to stifle it. Who would frown upon her for being a little exhausted in the morning hours? Through bleary green eyes she kept close tabs on the curious fowl as he darted up to a man quietly reading the paper, perched upon a simple wooden bench.
Tanya frowned and started forwards to stop her Torchic when the man flashed a grin at the eager Fire type and obliged to his wish of procuring a chip. The chip landed a ways from her Iggy, who hurriedly had scampered over to it, only to stop short when a haggard looking rodent materialized before him. Its dark blue, almost obsidian eyes were fixed on Ignitus, who quivered for a moment before puffing up indignantly.
"CHII!" he cried, throwing his chest out to make himself more impressive. Perhaps intimidation could scare off this competitor for the item of food. Tanya pulled her rarely used Pokedex from the back pocket of her dark blue jeans, and held it out towards the unknown Pokemon.
Sandshrew, huh? the girl thought to herself, chewing on her lip. A ground type... and she'd beaten a Ground type before. An easygoing smile, her trademark, curled her lips up. "Don't let it scare ya, Iggy. Now, let's put that TM to good use, and dose it with Flamethrower!" she said confidently, having full faith in her young Pokemon.
Ignitus peeped once and nodded. The flame sac in his belly began to warm up before it became cloaked in intense heat. His beak parting slightly, Iggy raised himself up to prevent his forthcoming attack from crisping the object of his desire.
"TOR!"
A torrent of flames exploded from Iggy's beak and blazed a straight line towards the Sandshrew. Tanya smiled and kept the spark of hope alive in her gut. If I hadn't managed to find that TM I dunno how he'd be able to work this without getting seriously hurt.

When the Sandshrew decided to pick a fight with the harmless-looking little bird, this had certainly not been what it was expecting. Sure, it had its share of petty quarrels with stray Meowths over who got the best scraps and Ekans over who got to devour that carcass of roadkill left over from last night, but generally nothing fazed it anymore. Having a jetstream of blazing fire shot at it was over a single, solitary piece of cheese-flavored potato chip was however, tantamount to near-overkill. Its eyes almost bulged out of its head as it saw what the hell the tiny bird was sending its way as its first instinct was to curl up tightly into a ball with the desperate hope that its thick scales could somehow protect it from the avian's fiery barrage. The flames completely engulfed the armored rodent curled-up body, startling everyone within the vicinity as Ignitius finally stopped his attack after the sac had been completely exhausted of air. he let out a small burp, expelling the last of his flames for this turn as he shook his feathers vigorously and peered over to where his opponent, hopefully more well-done than a slab of burnt steak should have stood. The flames died down, revealing the smokey visage of the Sandshrew still locked in its ball-like pose which slowly opened up to reveal the creature's full height once more. It looked dazed and shocked understandably from the attack but what fire Ignitius shot at it seemed to have been transferred to the glare in its dark eyes which was that of an opportunistic feeder realizing that this was indeed serious business. It wasn't about to be showed up in battle by some turkey with a makeshift oven in his belly! "Sandshrewwwwww!!" came the shrill cry as the animal, enraged by the audacity of this little bird darted towards him with the claws on its squat paws extended. Ignitius, young and inexperienced flapped around in a panic and let out a loud shriek of pain as the Sandshrew's claws tore into his face in a haphazard Scratch attack. The little bird, temporarily blinded by the attempt ran around wildly before colliding with Tanya's legs as he staggered to his feet in a decidedly shaken manner... --[FIGHT!]-- | SANDHSREW Lvl 9 Health; 65% Status; Normal

The explosive fire that erupted from Iggy's beak was staggering, and the girl was surprised the Sandshrew hadn't been burnt to a crisp. As it unfurled from its protective position, realization dawned on her. She frowned, but quickly shook it off before Ignitus spotted it.
And then the rodent was slashing at her Torchic's face, causing him to stagger around blindly for a few moments until he collided with her legs. Tanya bent down and helped Ignitus right himself. "Shake it off, sweetie!" she encouraged him.
The young fowl blinked and stared at his trainer with worried eyes. Her usual smile was flashed at the Fire type, who nodded and scurried forwards again.
"Another Flamethrower, stat!" Tanya ordered, staring at the Sandshrew while chewing her lip. Ignitus peeped in response and proceeded to puff himself up with air, which entered his flame sac and became superheated and full of fire. When it became too much to contain, Iggy opened his beak again.
Another gushing of flames poured from his beak, arcing in a straight line, to engulf the Ground type before it could do anything more. Tanya clenched her hands into fists and fervently prayed to land a decisive blow. Iggy might have gusto, but he was still young and inexperienced to battling.

Rembering the pain it suffered previously, the wild Sandshrew curled up in a ball. Ignitius' flamethrower lanced though the air, towards the shrew pokemon. The flames engulfed the tiny ground pokemon, and the chick pokemon jumped in joy. In a matter of seconds the flames where gone, and Sandshrew partially uncurled. Almost unaffected by the powerful flame thrower. The ground pokemon cackled in joy, knowing it's thick skin protected it from the deadly fires. Ignitus watched gleefully as his Flamethrower flared out around the Sandshrew. His eyes widened as the Ground type had curled up to help stave off some of the damage. "CHI! TORCHIC!" he cried out, stomping his little feet in anger. The yellow ruff around his neck stood up in what the fowl hoped was an impressive display of his annoyance.
Tanya's green eyes were speculative as she watched the proceedings. This Pokemon seemed relatively smart. Pity she didn't really want to capture it.
All Iggy could do was hammer at it with long-distance attacks and hope for a streak of good luck. It was great training after all. The Torchic lifted his head and stared at his mother figure as if hearing her thoughts. "Chi?" he asked, waiting for his commands.
Oh. She'd let her thoughts wander again. Blowing a stray tuft of auburn hair from her face, she half-heartedly cast her hand towards Ignitus' opponent. "Keep it up, darling! Scorch it black with another Flamethrower!" Tanya called out. Ignitus peeped in response and took a few steps closer to the grinning rodent.
"TORCHIC!" he cried out, exhaling another gout of hungry flames. Hopefully he'd be rid of his competition for the chip, which still lay innocently on the sidewalk between the two battlers.

Ignitus resumed his flame thrower. The shrew pokemon was engulfed in flames, and the smell of burnt flesh filled the air. The chick pokemon tried his best, but he soon stopped to see the damage. The Sandshrew laid on the ground uncurled, it's once white stomach was burnt black. The ground pokemon struggled up and charged at Ignitus, it's sharp claws threatening to cut the bird to ribbons. Only a few feet away from the bird pokemon, Sandshrew collapsed on the ground, holding it's burnt stomach. Battle

Ah yes, a lucky stroke at last! The Sandshrew seemed to have forgotten to curl up in time to deflect the hindering torrent of flames blazing towards it. As Iggy's attack died down, the rodent appeared in the shimmering air with a soot black belly.
A twinge of pity coursed through the teenager. If I wasn't so keen on training up Iggy, I'd be a little nicer... she thought to herself, watching the Sandshrew hustle forwards to attack, only to collapse and scrabble at its stomach.
Ignitus seemed spurred by the escape of a revenge blow, it seemed. So young, yet already excited by battling. It certainly helped blow away the guilt she was feeling for being so... brutal. Her Torchic ran around in a happy circle for a moment before stopping to gaze up at her, as if to say, 'Again?' Given that the powerful Fire attack was the only option against a good defense...
Tanya nodded to answer his inquiry before crouching down to pat his head affectionately. "It looks like one more good Flamethrower will toss this in the bag!" she whispered to her fowl.
He peeped in response and tottered over to resume his battle stance. "Let 'er rip, Iggy!" And he knew what to do without hearing the word.
Flames licked their way up his throat, almost scalding, before escaping the young fowl through the only exit available - his beak. Once more they shot out, soaring over the innocent snack food, in a curving line towards the downed Ground type.

The final flame thrower brought the Sandshrew to it's knees. The ground pokemon's breath was laboured, as it struggled to hold on. It refused to lose to a fire chicken. But it's wounds where to great, and the shrew pokemon collapsed to the ground no longer able to stay awake. Ignitus skipped over to Sandshrew and inspected it's fallen foe. Once it was satisfied it jumped in the air. The fire chick, chirped as it skipped back to it's trainer. Proud of it's victory. Ignitus grew to level nine! And learned Focus Energy! Finally, after a taxing battle, the shrew fell and fainted. Ignitus ran over briefly to celebrate his victory before circling back to gulp up the potato chip that had started it all. Tanya laughed and held out Iggy's ball to recall the ecstatic Fire type. Her Pokemon were in need of a quick rest.
She addressed the man on the bench, who happily sent her in the direction of the Pokemon center. With a quick 'thanks', the girl hurried off, smiling to herself. Quite the day it had been turning out to be. A few minutes later, the familiar red and white building winked into existence, and Tanya hurried inside.
As her Pokemon were healed, she secured one of the PCs scattered around the lobby and propped herself in front of it to speak to her mother. "Ah honey, how are you? Making friends?" the older version of Tanya asked, brown eyes warm and friendly.
"Doing good Ma, thanks. And yep, plenty of friends," she enthused. Her mother laughed briefly, then held up a hand. "Oh sweetheart, I have a gift for you. Well, a gift to you from your father and I."
Tanya's cheeks turned pink. "Oh you didn't have to do that!" she exclaimed, part of her southern accent leaking out. Her mother shook her short reddish-brown hair and smiled again. She vanished off screen for a moment and then her disembodied voice warned Tanya to pay attention to the trading function of the machine. A Poke Ball materialized into the tray, shaking slightly.
The girl took it, fumbling with it in her fingers, before letting it fly. The ball burst open and sent out an orange and tan weasel, standing on two feet with its arms crossed. Twin tails trailed on the ground, while light blue eyes peered up at the girl standing before it. "Bui?" it queried. "She's yours to name and keep, darling. Just make sure when you get close to Blackthorn, you visit now! I have to go now. Enjoy your gift," her mother said before signing off with a little wave.
Pursing her lips, Tanya stared at the Buizel, who was tapping her feet impatiently while staring back. Then Tanya's features softened into an easy-going grin. "I like you. Impatient, totally fed up with waiting... sorta like Ma herself. How does Tempesta sound for your name?" she babbled, bending down to stare directly at the Buizel.
Now it was Buizel's turn to look speculative. Then she gave a curt nod. "Tempesta it is," the auburn haired teenager agreed, recalling the Water type just as Nurse Joy called her over.
Pokemon healthy, she bolted from the Center and decided to tackle Route 30, the road towards Violet City. This time she let her Buneary, Angelus, ride on her shoulders as she swept into the route with renewed determination.

Just as Tanya started to walk across the broken road, Angelus noticed a rustle in the brush, turning her head and blinked. "Buneary??" she cried, tilting her head to the side. A blue, small mouse Pokemon began to bounce out of the brush, sitting on its ball-like tail with a grin on its face.
"Azurill!" it cried, tottering back and forth happily. Seeing the Buneary, it glared and got on its feet, shooting out a spray of water at her. Angelus dodged just in time and glared at the Azurill, jumping down and got into a fighting position.

Ambushed by an Azurill, eh? Tanya bit back a grin as it rocked on its overlarge tail. Then it shot her Buneary a venomous glare, sending shivers down her spine, but doing nothing more than enraging her little Angelus.
Angelus dodged a sudden jet of water sprayed at her, but it splashed against Tanya's shoulder and against her face. The girl frowned and wiped the excess liquid off of her face with a flick of her nimble fingers.
"Might as well do some more training before we tackle Violet," she murmured to herself, emerald eyes carefully watching her new youngest addition stare intently at the little blue Pokemon. Perhaps after giving Angelus a round, she'd make Veleno get some more experience. Angelus turned around halfway and made frantic motions at her trainer.
"Neary!" That cut into her trainer's oft wandering thoughts. She shook herself a little and focused on the battle about to go underway. "Okay, she knows two moves... so lets start off with Pound!" Tanya said, voice rising in pitch as she cast her command.
Her Buneary nodded, and with a faint, evil smile directed Azurill's way, began to hop forwards and lunge at her foe with a paw raised into the air.

Tanya could instantly tell that this Azurill was different. Instead of trying to dodge like the run-of-the-mill pokemon, the baby polka dot started to vigorously spin it's tail as if it was a lasso. It only got stranger when the Azurill hurled it's tail above it's head, sending it flying over head Buneary at an alarming speed. Soon the baby's plan's became apparent. With it's little trick, it completely dodged Angelus' attack, who fell to the ground as it's opponent flew overhead.
Azurill twisted it's body, causing it to fly downwards toward's Angelus' head. The unsuspecting pokemon struggled to get up as it's opponent closed in. Azurill's heavy tail slammed down on the bunny's head. Causing it to fall to the ground in pain.
The Azurill landed firmly on it's feat, it's back facing Tanya. The baby polka dot pokemon turned it's head just enough to see Tanya, and winked. As if it was trying to save her from the deadly Easter Bunny. Battle

Confusion was written all over Tanya's face as the battle got off to an odd start. Flying Azurills? Angelus not even landing a blow? Her gem green eyes were wide as the little aqua mouse landed before her, back to her face, before it turned and winked at her. "Riiiiight," the girl breathed, the skin between her eyebrows creasing.
Angelus looked pissed - that was definitely not good. Her little drama queen had a royal temper. "BUN BUN BUNEARY!" she yelled at the top of her little lungs, cheeks turning red as she threw a fit. Oh boy... a little baby in a tantrum. Tanya face-palmed.
"Angelus... sweetie, calm down. Take your rage out on something viable... like little 'zuri here..." she called out, trying to keep her voice low. But being in front of her, the Azurill would hear her anyways. Her Buneary stopped raging, eyes full of angry tears, and nodded, sniffling.
Tanya smiled, obviously relieved. If things got to be too much, she'd let Veleno have his fun in lieu of Angelus, no matter how much of a hissy fit the little rabbit threw. "Give that Pound attack another go!" the girl ordered, scratching absently at the back of her neck. Angelus let out a war cry and began hopping forwards determinedly, paw raised again.

The baby pokemon repeated it's actions. Flinging it's self back into the air. But this time Angelus was prepared. As Azurill was unleashing it's terrifying tail whip, Angelus jumped backwards. Then extended it's rolled up ear, punching the Azurill in the face. The baby pokemon fell to the ground, crying. It clearly didn't want to battle if it was going to get hurt.
