It was shite. I'm banning you. And this is why I love this place. I really REALLY did not see what was so amazing about this film. Behind the 3D wankfest it was absolutely subpar. It was a very, very generic tale that took themes from films like Dances with Wolves and somehow managed to hamfist it into something terrible. I've probably been over this with people before but the blue smurfy type people rub me the wrong way. They just look... Argh. Certainly going about massacring them if I somehow ended up in that universe. Hope to God, Cameron buggers on to something else.

I agree, I can't bring myself to side with the so called "good guys" in this. I understand the human's motivations much better, and for the most part agree with them, though they were portrayed as a bunch of trigger happy fools who had nothing better to do, and no redeeming qualities. The Navi, creep me out in that they had "SEX" with EVERYTHING on the planet, even the trees! (Technically they raped the things they forced themselves onto, like the steeds they used.) It also portrays the humans as the "evil" aggressors, when, as I recall, in the film they state that the Navi attacked first.
The fact that everything, predators AND prey are all florescent and/or GLOW IN THE DARK, bugged me too. Does anything on this world evolve to survive in it's environment? And since the majority don't seem to evolve to suit the environment, how did the Navi live long enough to create a culture, let alone all the ones in the movie? For that matter, why did they act exactly like blue, tall Native Americans?
Why is their slaughter of the humans justified, if the humans are the ones who did everything they could to avoid/minimize loss of life? And after the Navi group attacks the humans and goes to hide at the school, the humans are portrayed as "in the wrong" when they track them down, they didn't really go into it so I'm not sure if it warranted shooting them, but I'd assume yes. Whereas the Navi are portrayed to be unable to do any wrong, even when things are their fault.
I'll admit the humans were shown to be needlessly aggressive, so they weren't exactly justified in all of their actions, specifically "evicting" the Navi to get at the resources. But the Navi were the ones who ignored/acted hostile toward any attempts to settle things peacefully, which could have led to various amounts of resources being traded from them for things they could probably find very useful. However I'm sure that even if that had happened, those humans would have eventually just "stolen" it all.
And going back to the planet, how would the Navi be so much stronger than a human, if the gravity was lower to the point that the humans felt it was weaker to the point of their muscles getting weaker? I mean I can understand that they aren't human, and that they'd be different from things on earth, but that was a rather annoying little thing.
The particles, or whatever they were, that prevented firearms/missiles from working at long range, since it slowed them down too much, also didn't prevent the creatures from flying, or arrows from working, show how does it affect smaller and lighter things heavily enough to make them close range weapons?
The whole thing with the racial overtones thing was not something I cared about much, though I'll admit somewhat annoying. Yes the Navi send the survivors back home, but the movie just spent several hours showing us how wrong it was to force another culture into doing what you want. If you want to make a movie showing how important it is to understand each other, ACTUALLY HAVE THE "SYMPATHETIC" CHARACTERS TRY TO SIT DOWN AND TALK!
So yeah, I hated it.

That's another thing that invariably ticks me off a bit. Just the mixup between the two avatars. As far as I know Avatar: The Last Airbender was around before Cameron's Avatar so when the time came for an Avatar: TLA film (Yes, it may have stunk but nonetheless) they just had to use the film title of The Last Airbender to avoid confusion. Its akin to something like Star Wars deciding to drop their name because other recent releases also included either Star or Wars in it.
