Violet City
City of Nostalgic Scents

This city at the end of the color spectrum is home to resident Gym Leader Falkner. The area is filled with older style buildings and laid out around its natural landmarks in an attempt to keep the area nostalgic to those families that have lived there for ages. Violet city has three connected routes. One to the east called Route 31, which is where all new trainers enter from; a path to the south known as Route 32, which leads to Union Cave and the Ruins of Alph; and Route 36 going to the west.


Points of Interest

Sprout Tower, the monastery north of the lake dedicated to the teaching of peaceful coexistence. It's famous for its wobbling as trainers battle. You can obtain Flash here.

Dark Cave, a notoriously dark cavern that is impossible, and dangerous, to navigate without a pokémon able to use Flash.

Ruins of Alph, a famous ancient site with many mysteries located along route 32. There are many discoveries to be made and it's the only place to find Unown.

Fishing Jetty, located further along route 32 where docks have been setup for prime fishing.

Union Cave, a rough path all badge challengers must traverse in their journey. It's well traveled but still houses many paths yet to be fully mapped. There's a quest to obtain Rock Smash set in the cave.

• Complete 1 battle on Route 32

Although Falkner is the leader of Violet's Gym, that's not to say he's completely competent for the job. Using Pokémon handed down to him by his father the youthful gym leader offers a good benchmark for aspiring trainers to evaluate their progress. Remember that your 'New Trainer' safeguard will expire once you receive this badge.


Loyalty cap before obtaining the badge is level 20. Higher level pokémon may begin disobeying.

Wild Levels 8 - 12

Route 32 is a long, trainer-heavy route leading directly south from Violet City and ending at the mouth of Union Cave. Many NPCs may try and jump you from the tall grass but a wide selection of Pokémon can be found here too. Trainers can train in the grass covered area in the lead up to their first Gym battle.

Access to the Jetty is restricted to those that have the Zephyr Badge.

Union Cave is popular for Pokemon trainers and tourists. It is open to the general public since it is regarded as a safe area, well-lit by the artificial lighting in the cave. Its vast system of caverns and tunnels have often been explored by adventure-seekers but there are many areas, blocked off by strong currents or precipitous outcrops of rock, which have yet to be discovered. Zubat and Geodude are common Pokemon spotted inside the cave.

Cave access is restricted to those that have the Zephyr Badge. To access Union Cave the first time you must travel through Route 32.

To gain access to B1F you must complete Cave In! or it's IPF equivalent.
This is a brand new section of Union Cave only recently connected to the main tunnels. It hasn't yet been thoroughly explored and the pokémon down here are much less used to seeing trainers wandering about. Some perhaps even still cranky from all the construction.
