When they were first leaked in their entirety, I won't lie and say I was absolutely raving about them all (Sure there were a few) and when I began my first playthrough I was certainly apprehensive about some of them but since completing the game and giving it a chance I think overall, a lot of the designs and Pokemon themselves definitely fit in with the universe. One complaint I heard about the Pokemon in GenIV was how overdesigned they were. This generation presents some Pokemon a bit more simplistic in their design. For instance, I can imagine seeing Hydreigon in Red/Blue. There's only one or two which I think are a bit stupid (as well as a few of the names choices) but I absolutely fell in love with Pokemon like Bisharp, Golurk, Darmanitan, Crustle, Reuniclus and Gigalith. Koffing better be wary as i've found a pretty cool Poison type in the form of Trubbish. His evolved form is... Well... A bit rubbish but Trubbish could be a cool little mascot.

... Trubbish puns will never cease to be funny. Trubbish is silly and his evolved form was horrifying.
Overall, I began HATING them except for about 4. Then, I saw them all. I still hate most of them but I've grown to like a couple of them by now. I caught all of the pokémon available in each area as I went through so I got an eyeful but some will never convert me *glares at Darmanitan*
Some of the names I could live with; most were silly; others make me want to lobotomise myself with a rusty nail.

The name thing is definitely something I doubt i'll get accustomed to. On a slightly related note I did laugh horrendously bad at someone's interpretation of what Garbodor's name stemmed from: IT IS A LUCHADOR. I just can't believe how obvious it is: Garbodor = Garbage Odour.
What's so bad about Darmanitan? I actually thought he was awesome. Design was pretty fitting with older generations and it is an absolute rape machine with Sheer Force.

I just cannot stand his design. Creeps me out. Reminds me of a big, red, gorilla rapist. I think it's the stare/smile combination. You were right when he said he was 'an absolute rape machine' IMO,.

I take it you don't like his Zen mode either?

Zen Mode's fine as it's not HORRIBLE TO LOOK AT. Never felt the urge to gouge my eyes out at Zen mode.

I like Zen mode too but the requirements to actually use it in battle are pretty preposterous. I was hoping for a form change based on ability but it has to have its HP in red or half way etc It's bit of a shame too as that obviously narrows its playstyle to at least having Substitute on it to activate the mode. That or you take your chances with Focus Sash (Or is it Band? Derr moment). Either way, Darmanitan hits pretty hard in both forms. ;D

I hear that from all of his fans but his design is just too much... too much. RAPESTAREGRIN.

Yep. Just like with most pokémon. Still, I can respect his stats; MENTAL. I can see why he's referred to as a 'rape-machine'.

The other reason why I like him was because of how amazing he was at the point in the game you get him. Invest a little time into Darumaka and it really pays off. I mean, he was so good I ditched Pignite.

I mean, he was so good I ditched Pignite. Two pokémon I just can't stand and they happen to be the only two we've mentioned in 8 posts. YOU AND THE FORUMS CLEARLY HATE ME. I ditched my starter for the dog pokémon; not exactly the same stats, I know.

I am still lolling at that Zen Mode picture.. I'm with Scott here, the big red Digimon freak would do well to leave me alone..
My impressions of the new Pokémon were: BOKEE. Some of them have since grown on me.. er, Braviary. When I play it, it should be better. Very upset that I hate the Pignite (lolname) so much - I always play with the Fire starters! Not by tradition, I've always just liked them the best - but with Gen IV, Chimchar, I hate that line so much I had to play with Water.. and this gen it seems it will be Grass. A rubbishy grass-type, too. LE SIGH
Anyone worry that by the next generation, the designs will be so far removed from our perception of what a good Pokémon should look like, that we'll just stop buying into the franchise? D:

We'll never stop. Let's face it. There's also the fact that B/W were the fastest selling DS games in history in Japan (I think?) so they'll think we like these ugly *****ers!
